    My "big sis" has had our mom's Singer QuantumLock 4 since she passed 5 years ago. Sis has never used it, and I have learned how to sew during the pandemic. Turns out, shockingly, that I seem to have some aptitude for it (thanks, Mama 🙏🏼) plus I love it so Sis is giving me the serger. I can't wait, but it's intimidating. Thank God for UA-cam tutorials!

    I am an intermediate beginner sewist, but in the weeds when it comes to the serger.
    Thank you for demystifying this little machine's basics in an easy-to-understand way.

    What I love about this series is no matter what kind of serger you have, her explanations will make sense. Any small differences or features would be covered in the manual, but you can't beat the soup-to-nuts coverage of what these machines do :)

    Thank you for this series. I will be getting my grandmother's ProFinish in a couple weeks. (She is 93 and an amazing seamstress, but it's getting hard for her to sew now.) This series will help me a lot, especially since it's the same machine.

    Your instructions and guide to sergers is just wonderful - thank you SO much! It's very helpful the way you break the episodes up into comprehensible segments and the way you have fabric examples of what is and isn't working. Day 1 using my serger and I already feel so much more confident thanks to your clear tutorials. Whoo hoo! Kate

    Inherited my grandmother’s 1987 Singer Ultralock and I have no idea how to use this thing! I finally pulled out my inherited sewing machine last March and learned to sew (face masks first, then things got fun). Learning to sew on the machine ended up being easier than I thought it would be, but dang, this old serger intimidates me!

    THANK GOODNESS! I have been looking for serging classes in my area w/no success. Since I sewed my entire Fall/Winter wardrobe in knits I thought I'd learn to serge them all since it looks like I'm addicted to these wonderful knits and continue through Spring and Summer as well. The items that I purchase off-the-rack are done entireley w/sergers but I have no clue how to use one so I am VERY grateful for you sharing and for YT coz I would never have been able to make my creative dreams come true! TFS! (HUUGS) and much continued success to you. ^ _ ^

    I got a serger for Christmas, and have not touched it till now...I have read, and read, and read about learning to use a serger, but my serger will not make stitches at all! The machine runs fine....but no tail...or stitching on the fabric....what am I doing wrong?

    • @lunasmum6869

      I can understand your frustration. This happened to me the first time I got my overlocker (I am English) out after having it in the cupboard for years, afraid to use it!!
      Any way, just a few thoughts. Are the threads settled in the tension discs properly? I know you will have checked the next one countless times but have you threaded it all correctly? Did you lower the presser foot before trying to make a chain? Are the needles pushed right up into their slots? Remember one needle will be higher than the other. As a beginner overlocker I won't have all the answers but these are things I had problems with before I finally got a chain and stitching on my fabric. Lucky you getting this for Christmas. Someone must love you very much. What overlocker/serger have you got?
      I don't know what else to suggest except, perhaps, check to see if any of the threads are caught somewhere, especially the needle threads, after all, if they can't work then the loopers won't either.
      I hope I am not bombarding you with things you already know!!

    Great video!! I have a big question.. is the there a way to do a classic straight stitch with a serger?? Thanks!

    • @SewingPartsOnline
      @SewingPartsOnline  2 роки тому

      You can't produce a straight stitch on a serger in the same way that you do on a sewing machine; however, you can get similar results by using a chainstitch. *Please note, not all sergers have the capability of doing a chainstitch.* Also, the top will look similar to sewing machine results, but the underside does look a little different. It ends up being a thicker seam than what you would get with your sewing machine. I hope that this helps.

    • @SewingPartsOnline
      @SewingPartsOnline  7 років тому

      Hi! That type of seam is called a cover stitch and is done with a cover stitch machine. However, you can mimic it by finishing the edge with a 3 thread overlock, turning the hem under, and stitching with 2 parallel straight stitches 1/8 to 1/4 inch inch apart. . If you're fabric will be stretched, use a stretch instead of a straight stitch

    I hate my serger. I honestly dont feel like i can control it no matter what i try. I've watched a million videos and i get it in principle but i just dont seem to be able to control it to just sew straight. Using the seam guides are useless as you can't really line up the edge accurately as the machine is so fast even when you are going slow. I feel so much more control over using a sewing machine but the serger is just crazy and i want to be good at it 😢

    You talk way to fast’
    I can’t process what you talk about fast enough to follow along.
    I got a few friends to watch with me and by their comments they to agreed that you have great information but we have to watch your videos several times to keep up and understand what you’re talking about. So in a nutshell, we like your videos because-the information is excellent but we don’t wanna watch the video five times to understand everything you’re talking about you talk way too fast. Please consider slowing down.

      This is an older video and Sarah is no longer with us. I will definitely keep your feedback in mind while making future videos. :) Thank you all for watching!

    the volume of your video voice was pathetically low. So I turned my volume up on my laptop until I could just make it out.......THEN! your video started to list things and made a popping sound that was normal volume but with my volume control all the way up on my laptop I nearly blew out my eardrums.
    Please invest in a mixer and a better microphone system for the rest of your videos.
