    Do not get complacent now, folks.
    Now is the time to hold your local Officials accountable to do what is best for you and your family.
    Do NOT let "Others" choose your Sheriff, Prosecutor, Judges, County Supervisors, Mayor, Town Council Members, School Board Members, Land Use-Planning Board Members, Water Board Members, and other local Officials for you.

      Planning board is often overlooked and underrated, because when a big business comes in and builds whatever they are doing, they continue to have outsized influence over your community. We have to stop developers that are only interested in money, and towns that find more creative ways to maintain their budgets. The smaller the community, the more free they are.

    I think we are going to see a massive overhaul of the USDA and FDA, that will result in major victories for the small farmer. We will see a shift towards how it used to be; towns and cities getting much of their food supply from outlying farms that surround them. Food security is a concern for our nation, and small farms will help to tighten up that food security.

      I remember those days. We had a tiny neighborhood storefront and butcher out of their house. An older guy and his wife. He would buy whole cows from a farm on the edge of town and hang them in a big walk in freezer in his basement. When we ordered a cut he would go down and take a chunk off the cow and cut it up custom as we watched. Talk about fresh and full disclosure to cleanliness. They shut him down quick when usda took over, so sad.

    I’m a big fan of Joel Salatin and Thomas Massie, but I like Elon Musk’s idea better. Instead of trying to make unnecessary government departments more efficient, delete them. The federal government is not authorized by the Constitution to interfere in agriculture. The starting point for what to keep in the federal government should be if the agency doesn’t perform one of the functions of the 27 enumerated powers in the Constitution, it needs to be deleted. And, we need to go back to a pre-1937 interpretation of the Commerce Clause.
    10th Amendment: “The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.”

    I am for smaller farmers, any business really, being able to create a market for themselves outside of the domination of large consolidated corporations and the negative influences of money in politics.
    The caveat is regulation and safety protocols provide a legal framework for both consumers and producers. Many regulations were created because of the bad behavior of a minority of people in the business, and yes some because of money influence to reduce competition.
    I think it’s a good idea to review what can be done, but it should be done in public and thought through.
    I really wish money was not such a factor in politics. I would also do away with gerrymandering, voting districts should be as compact as possible.

    Thomas Massie did not get chosen but a lady name Brooke Rollins and Joe Salatin has not heard anything more about this advisory position but said his name was one of many swirling around in a pot. Joe recently did an interview with Dr. Sina McCullough where he discusses all of this. He said the lady chosen over Massie seems to be an "agricultural lightweight" who was in 4H and FFA but her strong suit seems to be managed an organization. He is hopeful she will be maleable and willing to listen to the needs of small farmers and he said she was not a terrible choice since she does not have obvious ties to corporate interest. He said it was exciting to get a call telling him his name was in the running for an advisory position but nothing has yet come of it and he has no expectations that anything would come of it. I am still hopeful he will get another call and an official offer but we will have to wait and see.

    • @PlaneViewFarm
      @PlaneViewFarm  Місяць тому +15

      I have. I had to read it a couple of times in school. The problem is that we've moved away from food safety into regulatory overload. If food safety is the goal, then results should matter. However, that's often not the case.
      For instance, outside of the US, it is common to find unwashed eggs in the grocery store next to canned vegetables off of refrigeration. It's proven to be just as safe as washing eggs in a sanitizer and putting them in the dairy cooler. Yet, the government doesn't care what scientific studies say. They just know that their regulations state that the eggs must be washed and refrigerated or they are unsafe for consumption.
      That's just the tip of the iceberg. I'm reminded of a quote by Elena Gorokhova from A Mountain Of Crumbs, "The rules are simple: they lie to us, we know they're lying, they know we know they're lying, but they keep lying to us, and we keep pretending to believe them." To some that might seem extreme, but to many, it is an undeniable truth.
      We've come a long way from the days of Upton Sinclair and the gross negligence of the food industry of the early 20th century. It's time to stop pretending that the regulatory apparatus knows best when we all know that they don't.

All this regulation and how often is there a recall, E Coli scare or chemical contamination. All while destroying the ability for neighbors to provide for and engage in commerce with one another. Bill Mollison once said that gardening/farming is an act of peaceful sedition, and that is because it removes an individual’s dependence on the government and systems of support on one of their most pressing and vital needs for life. Bill’s student, Geoff Lawton, confirmed his reasoning. At least it’s the most vital the can control of yours until they figure out how to regulate and tax breathing. 😂 Don’t worry they’ve been hitting water had over the last couple decades, too. During the 4 yrs Trump was President, taking all the money he was throwing my way was like trying to drink from a fire hose. I wasn’t about to refuse it. I don’t think it’s a solution, and would go as far as to say, farmers from the black earth corn belt like myself have lost ten times more than we have received. The farm bill incentivizes growing crops in areas that didn’t used to grow them, resulting in over production, and low prices.

    • @NorthlandSLC
      @NorthlandSLC Місяць тому +2

      People forget that tariffs used to be normal practice in days gone by and our country was rich and thriving. eBay has a tariff and Etsy, Amazon etc. all those selling sites that charge you a fee to sell to people using them. How about the fee people pay to set up a stand and sell at the farmers market. People still buy on them.

      @@bipslone8880 actually, I agree. I looked at it as a chance to take some,e of my own money back, and use it against them. I don’t agree with government involvement in farming though. As a black earth, corn belt farmer, I have lost way more revenue due to the farm bill than I’ve ever collected. It supports dumb asses, those who lack innovation, and people growing crops not suitable to where they farm.
