I am very happy I got to experience Dun Morogh before they removed the snow storms. Nothing quite like fighting your way back through a blizzard to get a nice rest inside the Thunderbrew Inn in Kharanos
+GellyfishProductions I wish Blizzard would Impliment weather intensity controls in the game menu under system tab with 4 different weather intensity settings for us to choose from like they did with the water and other graphics of the game. I miss the intense weather in the game when your in Goldshire or Brill and its pooring rain with wind and lightening or when you were in Kharnos and its so windy and snowing its almost a white out while questing or when you were at the crossroads and it was so windy blowing stuff around and through the air.
+Radicast Blizzard Entertainment has heard your request and has left you this response. "It'd confuse the playerbase and their toasters wouldn't be able to handle it, so we won't even put it an option for it. You think you want it, but you don't." But in seriousness, I actually do mess those stronger effects. I heard they removed it because some people's computers couldn't handle it, but oddly enough my computer played BETTER during them.
I think how the zone changes as you progress is unlike anything in the game since... you could not read a single word of text and understand the story that you are taking part in.
To be honest, I really like the pandaren starting zone. I remember crating my first monk, and just get blown away from how gorgeous everything in that zone is.
Yup. Shen zin su is not only gorgeous... In my opinion it's a masterpiece. It has very nice story. It shows how much Pandaren people are in deep friendship with peace, nature and calm life. They want to stay away from the conflict but unfortunately the destiny comes to them by itself. Shen zin su is dying... Everytime i make a Pandaren and heal that turtle-island i feel such a nice and warm feeling inside my hearth. Well, i like Nixxiom, but i'm very disappointed because of no Shen Zin Su in top 10... Well, i understand that it's only his opinion and propably he doesn't like such a climat... But yeah... If i were in his shoes i'd make Pandaren starting zone number one ;) Love all the Pandarens
My personal favorite is Gilneas. I too love the depressing and kinda creepy environment, the music is great and goes really well with the zone, the quests are fun and varying and the story is so cool but sad. Going there after you've done with the starting quests is really creepy, bc it's mostly empty with only some sheep and a few hounds here and there
Great list, but Dun Morough has stolen my #1. In Vanilla it was so unique, and at the end when you have to run through the tunnel of troggs, you worried if you could actually make it.
I really like the draenei starting area because of the amount of choices you had on where you could go. Either bloodmyst, teldrassil, darkshore, or stormwind. It really made the game feel good having so many choices and draenei have such good lore for being alien demons of light.
Pandaren quests were pretty fun for me. I mean, you have to put this broken turtle back together and you even get some elemental buddies to follow you for a short bit.
I dont know why but the Goblin starting zone is one of my favorites because its long and not to short and you get to explore and this is including the island
+Noobslayer 69 I love the goblin starting zone, music fits well,Kezan has the only pure Goblin city,Night elves are my favorite race and i hate goblin shredders and goblins in particular, but that zone iz pure gold, nothing like taking a ride with your buddies on the whacky roads :D
true, hands down. As much as I hate the pandarens in game and Im one of the persons who says that pandaren destroy the theme of the warcraft universe, those starting zones are really really well made and are a lot of fun!
In terms of a single playthrough, I think Gilneas, Death Knight, and Pandaran are the best. Immersive story, teach your lore without shoving it down your throat, and really kick off your character really well. That said, I also hate having to make new characters in these 3 zones because while the story is interesting, I'd rather just mindlessly quest/grind in the classic zones (of which you can choose)
It’s the worst tho, it’s so long and boring. I got 20 levels in that zone only and every time the only thing I was thinking about is I want to go to elwynn.
Eversong woods is my favorite by far. It has that feel of surviving and you see how mutch blood elves suffer. I never like playing blood elves but my 1st time in this zone back in WotLK was the best for me.
#1 Looks - Teldrssil. I just love the fantasy elfish forest looks in games. #1 Quests - Gilneas. The story is amazing of how you start as a human, turn into worgen, have everyone progressively evacuate, obliterate hundreds of undead with a fucking cannon, and finally have your answers for Scythe of Elune, which's cliffhanger bothered me every since I started in Burning Crusade. #1 Music - Eversong Woods. It's so damn harmonic, serene and beautiful. When passing through the south outer wall of Silvermoon, you can even hear the tune from Sylvanas' ballad. Also extremely nostalgic, since I first started as a blood elf.
+Dave Asher I love the Gilneas quests, they're probably the most diverse among the other starting zones and they follow a very clear story line. Other zones it's just you helping out town people or w/e. At least that's the feel I get from other starting zones vs. Gilneas.
Gamma Rae Yeah, pretty much same thoughts here, though goblins were pretty close too, I'm just not a fan on the machinery theme, or goblins in general. And I didn't play MoP to experience the pandaren one, but I don't think they'd revert back to old boring starting zone quest style.
yea i love the pandaren starting zone I just loveeeed everything about it. I have a monk and since our ckass hall is shen zin su I always chill at the place where he was healed its so peaceful
No DK. starter zone.. No Goblin's Kezan Isle with the hot rods and highways.... no pandas floating turtle island.... the 3 you left out were all the best. Wow, just wow......
Eversong Woods is the best in my opinion. The feeling of fighting for the survival of the GREATEST RACE, and trying to restore Quel' Thalas to its glory is spectacular. It's sad that people don't often go there anymore unless they are just starting a Blood Elf character.
Everyone's favorite starting zone will be the zone in which their first character started, so it's very subjective. My favorite is Teldrassil because my first char ever was a Night Elf and I'm attached to it, mostly due to nostalgia. My second favorite is Mulgore.
I find this funny. I personally hate Azuremyst Aisle because I found it boring, slow, and the atmosphere was just no. My personal fav was Eversong Woods by a longshot.
Medalyn Usa I'm with you...the draenei one is totally boring but I love the blood elf one... I would create horde toons and go lever there cause I love it so much
I'm honestly shocked that your #1 was not in Acherus. xD I would've put Teldrassil as #3 for nostalgia reasons. My very first character was a Night Elf druid. It will always hold a special place in my heart.
+Sin Valefor I couldn't believe his #1 since I hate that place so much. Whenever I made a character, I would go out of my way to run(before heirloom mounts were a thing) to Elwynn Forest and level. I respect his opinion though, my number one spot would be Teldrassil because it was everything I wanted in an MMO when I first started playing. To the statement of him saying that it's just generic questing content, isn't that how it is with pretty much all starting zones? Aside from the two cata zones.
Rainy Day I remember how Blood Elf death knights would just hang out right at the start zone in Teldrassil during wrath to terrorize the new players. I really do miss those days haha
***** lol yeah I remember horde players hangin out there as well as seeing higher levels on their huge War Mammoths. I also remember falling to my death after going up that spiraling ramp in Shadowglen haha. It's those memories that can really keep a player attached to wow even if the game is going down the toilet.
Mulgore still remains my favorite. Running back and forth was tiring and annoying at times, but as you noted it really made the zone, and the game world as a whole, feel massive and imposing. Also I love the terrain; grassy rolling hills, trees but not forests, that's my ideal terrain. Admittedly as a native Floridian snowy climates always feel so exotic and remote and even a bit mysterious, so they're always fun. Still prefer green areas, though. Hence why Elwynn Forest is also one of my faves. I don't LIKE the Blood Elves starting zone. It's the most teeth-grating in the whole game, in my opinion, from the creepy architecture, to that gawdawful music that's just this annoying chorus going "oooooh" over and over again in the most irritating tones, I despised it. Only have one Belf character because of that and I got it to the Barrens and Kalimdor as soon as I could. Likewise, can't stand the Undead zones at all. The aesthetics are just so damn off-putting. Gilneas, damn good stuff, though. It's got that dreary, oppressive atmosphere, but unlike the Undead or Belf areas it feels like you're actually making a difference thanks to the progressive changes. Well, it used to; anyone who's rolled a Worgen character recently knows how it's gotten a bit glitchy. But even then, the architecture feels less like "this is death and dreary" and more like "things are dark, but fight on and it'll get better" feel to it, which makes it light-years beyond most other zones. Azuremyst is okay, but it's just too dark in the color palette for my personal taste. Still, at least it has some good and entertaining quests and feels pretty large. Just my two cents... Okay, more like a buck fifty.
Eversong woods is and always will be my favourite starting zone for the reasons you mentionned : the quests, the music, the environements are damn good
I super agree with the top 5. My first character was a draenei so I have super fond memories of Azuremyst Isle, and the first character I leveled to 100 was a dwarf, and I'm always happy to return to Dun Morogh whenever I'm not busy. Gilneas has always been one of my favourites since it's so action packed and ruthless, the entire atmosphere is incredible, and its so aesthetically pleasing.
10: Elwynn. Reason? I have many human chars, it gets dull after the first 3. 9: Dun Morogh. Reason? Well, dwarfs are one of my fav races cause of the beard, but the reason why its this high in the list is because I live in Canada, I deal with snow on a daily basis.. And everytime I see snow it just makes me cold.. 8: Teldrassil. Reason? Well i never had a night elf as my main, but the few times I played through the zone I thought it was fun, and gave off the night elf feel from warcraft 3. Its just nice to look at. 7: Mulgore. Reason? Honestly, same as your nixx. 6: Gilneas. Reason? I liked the story behind what happens in Gilneas, not to mention the textures around the zone plus the new buildings you get that arnt your generic stormwind stuff. 5: Tirisfal. Reason? Well, I never really played undead much, but the few times I did I enjoyed the zone, and going into Silverpine after experiencing Tirisfal made the zone alot more nicer, and Lilian Voss is a wonderful char so thats also a plus. 4: Echo Isles. Reason? Well, the troll lore we got from warcraft 3 wasn't really that good in my opinion, but how they did the echo isles in cata made it so you could better understand that history. Plus Zuni was beast. 3: Eversong. Reason? Blood elfs were one of the main races I was focused on towards lore, they have story dating back to the war of the ancients and when you connect the dots and figure out that they were the highborne that left after the well of eternity imploaded, then it makes it much nicer. And also being able to screw them over in warcraft 3 was fun. 2: Acherus. Reason? Arthas, he is by far my most fav lore character in all of warcraft, he started out as a good guy but slowly you could see him being corrupted and when he takes frostmourne you know shits about to go down. And when you see that death knights are in the game, you remember him and thats what makes this area nice. You are the scourge and you see how manipulative arthas can be, also fuck you silverhand.. Thats revenge for recking me in vanilla. 1: Kezan. Reason? The goblin starting area, I found this place to be nice, you start out as a rich guy whos trying to make his way up, you do alot of stuff around Kezan and then the cataclysm hits, the volcano erupts and you have to spend all your savings to gtfo. You then end up in a alliance and horde fight and wash up on a island in the middle of nowhere. And then going through that area, trying to make sure all of your people live, and then finally getting a place in the horde, I found this nice.
+41st Omega I said they deserved the place far below everything else along with gnomes and goblins. So you are right. They didn't deserve being included in medieval/antique-europe-inspired story where no-one have heard of them before. Which means they didn't deserve being included even far below everything. My mistake, sir
+41st Omega well, now let's talk like reasonable people. I can't take anyone's right to decide whether or not is certain thing (for example playing a pandarean) fun. I won't even argue about that, since I have not had the pleasure of trying that yet and I'll make sure, that I never will. However I still must claim that Pandaria has no place within World of Warcraft. Along with gnomes and goblins of course, but that's another thing. Introducing a Chinese inspired nation could have been at least much more original than just adding kung-fu panda to warcraft universe
Lol, I did not expect my favourite to end up as no. 1 on your list :D It's not really the quests that make it great, those a decent. But the general feel this zone has is incredible!
Totaly agree with you Nixxion,Azuremyst Isle is in my oppinion too the best and the most beautiful starting zone in WoW. That land will always have a special place in my heart just like the Draenei. I adore the music and the hole chain quests, the landscape is amazing and full of beauty.
I agree to Tirisfal Glades being high, but aren't the Goblin, Pandaren and Deathknight zones pretty good too? Most newer zones tend to have a LOT more detail both in lore and scripted events.
#1 is gilneas for me - quests are cool, fantastic atmosphere, awesome lore #2 is mulgore - mostly for the nostalgia factor, it was my first starting zone and i just love these open grassy plains, the zone is also very calming 3# echo isles - TROLLS! exciting quests, jungle feeling and awesome lore
I came into WoW just this year, so I don't have a lot of nostalgia to fall back on when it comes to starting zones. So please, bear with a new player here and indulge me. The first zone I ever played was The Wandering Isle. It was a hard choice for me to actually pick a race, I like all of them, but eventually I settled on the Pandaren because I enjoyed their background, traits and appearances. So Wandering Isle was my first look at WoW and it was epic. The ascetics, music, quests, NPCs and little background stories sold me on the game. I love that on the way to recover the Element of Air you can head down a spiral staircase under the bridge and listen to a teacher tell the story of Liu Lang to a collection of eager young cubs. The whole quest to save my island, and finally meeting Shen-zin Su was incredibly well done. The aftermath of those choices was heartfelt and very real for me. I felt the sadness of both Aysa and Ji as I watched them struggle to put their philosophical practices to the test. The Wandering Isle is my number one favorite zone. Sometimes I like to just log in and walk around the place, enjoying the music and scenery. I would rate my Top Five Starting Zones as such: 1 - The Wandering Isle (Pandaren) 2 - Trisfal Glades (Forsaken) 3 - Gilneas (Worgen) 4 - Scarlet Enclave (Death Knight) 5 - Mardum, the Shattered Abyss (Demon Hunter)
Actually, I forgot to include Kezan as an honourable mention! Thank you for reminding me. I know that the Goblin starting area gets a lot of flack, but I actually really enjoy it. It shows off the Goblin social norms and zaniness that makes me love the little green guys. It's definitely in my Top 10.
I can respect this, as The Wandering Isle was my second starting area. My first one being Gilneas, because who doesn't wanna be a werewolf? I totally agree with all the points you have made here.
Zachary the one dislike is me because I real,y don't like the forsaken starting zone cuz of da creepy music like something is gonna die or and old god is gonna make my heart explode and when the music goes like nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnng it's so creepy and just freaks me out but anyways I guess the mad merchant is still cool even though he's a gnome
Eversong woods is the best for me, the atmosphere, the ambience, the music, the look of the elves, it's beautiful both in day and night. I have always loved this place since 10.
ayo nixxiom nixxiom.... bro! what the hell!? why did you not put the deathknights starting zone? that was my expectation for number 1 and my opinion is that is the best
+Zarckhan Cus this is a top 10 about the zones themselves and Eastern Plaguelands isn't much of a starting zone as its a small phased instance on its own
Hey I just wanted to say I enjoy your videos. I learn a lot from them considering I listen/watch to them at work, it's kind of like my WoW fix while I can't play.
It's not depressing. It's just enjoyingly dark, foggy, atmospheric. Very cool zone. Love gilneas. I really wish that some day there's an expansion in which the Worgen reclaim and rebuild Gilneas and is a functioning city like the rest of them. Maybe soon now that some kind of peace is in the making between Alli and Hor. Seeing as there's no warchief. There's a council. And they said they want peace. So maybe Worgen and Forsaken don't have to fight anymore. Especially cause sylvanas is not in charge anymore
Azuremyst Isle is literally the most boring starting zone for me and every time i started a Draenei i couldnt wait to get out of there as soon as possible.
+CounterstrikerGS I honestly assumed it was a troll answer and he'd be like "naw just kidding here is my real number 1." Back when the hearthstone promotion came out to get a character to level 20 the #1 tip people had for new players was "don't make a blood elf or draenei because those starting areas suck"
I would really like to see a full-length story of Azuremyst Isle done from the perspective of the Quests, and having the NPCs found there actually doing more shit than they were first given to do than just meager Quest givers.
Death Knight is my personal favorite, the fact that no matter which faction you are, you’ll see people kneel at the end, we come together for this amazing lore moment
Gilneas reminds me soo much of diablo for some reason. I can imagine my demon hunter run through a bruning gilneas stabbing things melee demon hunter best
The Forsaken was my first race, and I've always loved Tirisfal Glades too. Always head over there right after dinging lvl 5 on belves. Love the gloom & doom of Gilneas for the same reason. DK starting instance too.
I 100% agree with this list, even though I really love the Blood Elf starting zone this video reminded me of how special this game is and how many people keep themselves from these zones. I kind of want to level all the races again for the nostalgic experience, thanks for making this Nixxiom!
I figured Tirisfal would have been #1, but when I saw it came second, I figured it would be the DK starting zone. Azuremyst though? That'd probably be on my worst starting zones >_> Damnit Nixxiom, your opinion is bad and you should feel bad! :P
Loved listening him explain why he likes Dun Morogh so much. My first real toon was a Dwarf Hunter who I started in 2006, I still have him and whenever I logout of the game for an extended break I put him on his Netherwing Drake right on top of Ironforge Gates.
+Jonah Marx When it comes to questing yes it is. But as far as aesthetics go, this is #1 in my book. The music gives me the chills all the time and the place is so magical... but to level in it, yeah not much to admire there.
Totally agrees on the #1 choice dude ! especially when you got back at that time where, as a chaman, you had to learn how to summon your different totems through a bunch of really cool quests learning how to control the elements and all... Very nice place
My top 17 Starting Zones: 1. Gilneas 2. Dun Morogh 3. Eversong Forest 4. Mulgore 5. Kezan 6. Teldrassil 7. Elwynn Forest 8. Eco Islands 9. Pandaren Starting Zone (I don't know the name) 10. Archerus/DK Starting Zone if i don't say the real or correct name 11. Azuremyst Isle 12. Programmer Isle (Only if you are of staff team of blizzard, pirate servers, etc) 13. Designer Isle (Only if you are of staff team of blizzard, pirate servers, etc) 14 Mardum 15. GM Island (Only if you are of staff team of blizzard, pirate servers, etc) 16. Durotar 17. Tirisfal Glades ''If you read this, go away'' - Designer Island.
Oh man Azuremyst Isle is the best and honestly that extends to its next zone of Bloodmyst Isle too. The Burning Crusade had some of the best lore and quests in the game, treating Azure and Bloodmyst Isles as fully fledged zones and not just a tutorial area with deep immersive quests, an amazing soundtrack and a breathtaking atmosphere. This is more about Bloodmyst Isle but something I absolutely loved about the zones was how deeply the Blood Elves were tied into Draenei quests, being the whole reason why the Exodar crashed to begin with. I can't think of cross-faction counterparts added in an expansion that were written as well or were involved in each others destinies as that of the Dranei and Blood Elves. The Blood Elves were why the Draenei crashed into Azeroth and the Draenei led to the Blood Elves' redemption and salvation, it's beautiful and brings a tear to my eye. I may be Horde, but my first character ever was a Draenei and Azuremyst Isle is the only starting zone that ever made me feel like I was home.
Solid list and I can see why you chose them as you did. Unfortunately my personal favorite list is a different one. 1: Dun Morogh: As you mentioned that place is cozy as fluff. Snowy, forested mountains with warm, inviting inns feels like home to me. Vermont winters usually bring plenty of cold and snow, and the skiing is just great, so Dun Morogh automaticaly gets points from me on that. However it's also the fact that it's the starting area not just for the Dwarves, but also my personal favorite race the Gnomes. From escaping Gnomeregon to assisting your fellow Gnomes throughout New Tinkertown in quests that lead up to helping in the defeat of Razlo Crushcog, all while that (to me) catchy, mechanical, upbeat music is playing in the background makes it the most enjoyable starting zone to me. In fact I enjoy it so much I'll find myself makign new gnome characters just to run through the area again and again. 2: The Wandering Isle: I started playing WoW near the end of Cataclysm's running time as an expansion, to to me Mists of Pandaria was the first new expansion I got to experience. And while I understand the myriad of reasons why some people didn't like it, I absolutely loved it. I adored the Pandaren, snickered at the Vermin and Hozen. I enjoyed the vibrant colors combined with the Chinese sense of style that the expansion had, and while I was working on getting to level 90, the Wandering Isle provided a perfect sampling of what Pandaria itself had to offer. Plus talking to the giant island turtle was amazing to me, and dealing with the Alliance and Horde for the first time as a different race looking at them for the first time was novel to me. Honestly this is what I always felt like the Goblins should have been given there are different cartels that deal with the Horde and the Alliance, or are simply neutral. 3: Azuremyst Isle: What can I say that you didn't already say? I agree with everything about this starting zone. While Gnomes are my favorite race, and my first character was a Gnome, the Draenei are my second favorite (tied with Pandaren), and my second character I made was a Draenei. 4: Elwyn Forest: Goldshire jokes aside, I love Elwyn Forest, mainly because I love forested areas. Something about trveling between the human settlements and adventuring through a forest amongst massive trees that're probably older than the previously mentioned settlements just.. feels right to me. 5: Eversong Woods: Beautiful forests, beautiful architecture, a bleak yet hopeful storyline to start you on your way.. What's not to like about this area? Blood Elves, the first reason I had to try a Horde character. 6: Kezan: The Goblins were a bit of a puzzle to me. At first glance they were basically dirty, ugly, greedy gnomes. But after a while of playing I decided to roll a Goblin and see what their story was like. I was not dissapointed. They were so much like Gnomes yet so different that I found myself enjoying the starting area as I was riding around town with my groupies in an absurdly silly car, throwing a pool party, running errands, all while trying to overthrow Gallywix and become the next Trade Prince. Then Deathwing showed up. And the cinematic of Gallywix's ship getting blasted by the Alliance ship is just too funny to ever forget. Of course exploring the Lost Isles and helping Thrall and the orcs out was a blast. All in all the entire experience helped endear the Goblins to me in a way I previously hadn't thought possible. 7: Mulgore: In stark contrast to Kezan, I adored Mulgore's seemingly vast expanses, but the traveling quickly wore at me despite the calming feel of the zone. 8: Gilneas: Ah the dreary, seemingly olor-bland homeland of the Gilneans. While yes it was on point for flavor, setting, and story, the drearyness always detracts my enjoyment of the zone. Added tot eh fact that it seemed like the Gilneans just couldn't catch a break. Werewolves! Beat them back. Forsaken invasion! Beat them back. Earthquake that swallows a large chunk of land! Well, that's just wonderful. 9: Tirisfal Glades: Personally I'm not a fan of the Forsaken. I get why people like them, but to me they're just 'meh'. Tirisfal Glades is similar in nature to me. On one hand I love the wooded areas, the rich lore behind the zone, but it just feels way too dreary and almost bland despite the unique stylings the Forsaken give the area. Still it's far better than number ten on my list. 10: Durotar: The desert, dry rocky atmosphere.. The long distance between some of the places. It's just a big ball of 'No thankyou.' to me. While it's cool that Oggrimar, capital of the Horde is here, it just doesn't do the zone enough justice to me. In fact, it's enough to keep the Echo Isles off my list, because it somehow feels worse to me to go through the nice atmosphere of the Echo Isles just to get slapped in the face with the slow and bleak atmosphere of Durotar. At least the Goblins can just skip that area entirely and go north into Azshara.
I just love Gilneas and the atmosphere in it. The music is great, the quests are awesome, zone looks amazing and I like how it's always raining there. I've made many worgen chars to run through the zone and questline over and over.
Inebriated Individual go in Eversong Woods when it's the night. You will hear a Lament of the Highborne version without Sylvanas in sound , pretty nice. I like Eversong Woods' music in general , but in the night that place is majestic and the music.
Teldrassil and Azuremyst are super nostalgic for me so they get that young red tinted favor from me. When I first played WoW 8 years ago I rolled a night elf hunter, and soon after a draenei shaman. The music and the atmospheres of the zones just _get me._
I agree with your #1 one hundred percent. To this day the Draenei starting zone is so cool. So many unique quests, has an EXCELLENT pay-off, and looks nice.
I am very happy I got to experience Dun Morogh before they removed the snow storms. Nothing quite like fighting your way back through a blizzard to get a nice rest inside the Thunderbrew Inn in Kharanos
nostalgia :P
+GellyfishProductions I wish Blizzard would Impliment weather intensity controls in the game menu under system tab with 4 different weather intensity settings for us to choose from like they did with the water and other graphics of the game. I miss the intense weather in the game when your in Goldshire or Brill and its pooring rain with wind and lightening or when you were in Kharnos and its so windy and snowing its almost a white out while questing or when you were at the crossroads and it was so windy blowing stuff around and through the air.
+Radicast
Blizzard Entertainment has heard your request and has left you this response.
"It'd confuse the playerbase and their toasters wouldn't be able to handle it, so we won't even put it an option for it. You think you want it, but you don't."
But in seriousness, I actually do mess those stronger effects. I heard they removed it because some people's computers couldn't handle it, but oddly enough my computer played BETTER during them.
SOOOO TRUE...
+Radicast You think you want it but you don't.... :P
Death Knight starting zone is the best in my opinion. The feeling of being an evil bastard that serves the Lich King is just so awesome!
Ah it's true that heroic classes have their own starting zones. And the DK one is really good :)
true
I think how the zone changes as you progress is unlike anything in the game since... you could not read a single word of text and understand the story that you are taking part in.
Yaxion the dh one is pretty good I love how story heavy it was and how it had some neat cutscenes
Yaxion ah yes the pfp checks out
To be honest, I really like the pandaren starting zone. I remember crating my first monk, and just get blown away from how gorgeous everything in that zone is.
I Tottally agree with you
yeeeee
+Ghillietine s Exactly! :D
+Ghillietine s Uh... Isn't the style Chinese?
My personal favorite is Gilneas. I too love the depressing and kinda creepy environment, the music is great and goes really well with the zone, the quests are fun and varying and the story is so cool but sad. Going there after you've done with the starting quests is really creepy, bc it's mostly empty with only some sheep and a few hounds here and there
Jojjo I love the music there haha
Great list, but Dun Morough has stolen my #1. In Vanilla it was so unique, and at the end when you have to run through the tunnel of troggs, you worried if you could actually make it.
+Graenolf Ahhh, good times :)
I really like the draenei starting area because of the amount of choices you had on where you could go. Either bloodmyst, teldrassil, darkshore, or stormwind. It really made the game feel good having so many choices and draenei have such good lore for being alien demons of light.
14 starting zones - better make a top ten! :D
+BagnoTV Yep, rip goblins ,-,
Pandas deserved it
Hmmof
+BagnoTV Demon Hunter starting zone will probably head to the top after its release. :P
+Night Knight Let's start a fight: MoP is better than Classic/Burning Crusade WoW
Pandaren quests were pretty fun for me. I mean, you have to put this broken turtle back together and you even get some elemental buddies to follow you for a short bit.
Agreed
I dont know why but the Goblin starting zone is one of my favorites because its long and not to short and you get to explore and this is including the island
+Noobslayer 69 I love the goblin starting zone, music fits well,Kezan has the only pure Goblin city,Night elves are my favorite race and i hate goblin shredders and goblins in particular, but that zone iz pure gold, nothing like taking a ride with your buddies on the whacky roads :D
Yeah and then getting to the island is really fun and I especially loved using the car!
true, hands down.
Alwayz ,what was the race for #1
Magictoast / Hallucination dranei
The problem is is that in early dk before you get the gear, you get absolutely fucking destroyed
Worgen starting zone is the best without a doubt
Yeeeeees!!!!! I love it, and the whole race and Gilneas!!!! Finally someone that agrees with mere! :D
Yes
Definitely it reminds me of Bloodborne which is my favorite game!
True
It’s the worst tho, it’s so long and boring. I got 20 levels in that zone only and every time the only thing I was thinking about is I want to go to elwynn.
Eversong woods is my favorite by far. It has that feel of surviving and you see how mutch blood elves suffer. I never like playing blood elves but my 1st time in this zone back in WotLK was the best for me.
Draenei starting zone is so boring though
MyFableVids agreed
Tasav as a draenai lichlord main, I hated the starting zone. But the character itself is my favorite by far!
Tasav true
Bay White I'm glad light forged draenei dont do the starting zone thing.
Without a mount it can get really boring, yeah.
Gilneas.
Gamma Rae
Yeah, pretty much same thoughts here, though goblins were pretty close too, I'm just not a fan on the machinery theme, or goblins in general. And I didn't play MoP to experience the pandaren one, but I don't think they'd revert back to old boring starting zone quest style.
I agree. Eversong Woods I my absolute favourite zone though but yeah
Love, love, love the goblin starting zone it’s just so wild and the quests are quite unique.
Surely the best starting zone in the Death Knight starting zone? By far the best quests and story
x2.
+ShadowZeal Just wait 'til the DH starting zone goes live my friend
+Bernardo Apv nah
felek kartofelek Yah
WoWLoser TwentyTwo the reply was written 11 'months ago and 11 months ago DH didn't exist
Goblin quest line is my num 1 without a doubt
ew the quests are so fucking boring its not even funny
goblins are easily the most fun and enjoyable starting zone to be in, love that shit
Azuremyst is my least favorite starting zone by a mile. E: typo
Same.
Ikr! The quests there are boring as all hell
+Konde IKR, was expecting goblin starting zone cause it's rad.
you should try it on a 3.3 5 server...you will love it!!
I agree, that is literally my least favorite zone. looks nice but at the same time it is so boring.
If the gnomes haven't retaken gnomregan by now they don't deserve it
Yeah, the gnome starting zone is kinda... meh.
but hey the music was good :D
If the russians havent moved in to Chernobyl by now they dont deserve it
Chernobyl is in Ukraine.
a little late to the party but you have a dungeon to go into gnomergan and proceed to take it.
Pandaria has the best starting zone. The quests, the cinematics, the soundtrack, the relaxed and peaceful environment. It is all superb.
Would be my favorite if every quest giver didn't say sloooooow dooown... XD
Kayla Zsak you gotta sloooooow doooown and appreciate the starting zone more
yea i love the pandaren starting zone I just loveeeed everything about it. I have a monk and since our ckass hall is shen zin su I always chill at the place where he was healed its so peaceful
for me Gilneas is no 1 hands down
same
I lvld a worgen feral druid just cuz I couldnt stand nelf.....I race changed later tho :(
+SooCrazy o_0 for like 10-15 levels??
no lol, had been playing for rly long as Worgen feral
was kinda new and started in mop and I race changed less than a month ago
No DK. starter zone..
God I love the Drenai starting zone. It is also the first thing I ever saw of WoW. Absolutely amazing.
I like the goblin zone due to its story line. Also, once you get out of Kezan, you are treated to a nice tropical island.
Goblins!
Everyone's favorite starting zone will be the zone in which their first character started, so it's very subjective. My favorite is Teldrassil because my first char ever was a Night Elf and I'm attached to it, mostly due to nostalgia. My second favorite is Mulgore.
number 1 : eversong woods just because of the amazing feeling combined with the music that mindfucks you a little bit
I find this funny. I personally hate Azuremyst Aisle because I found it boring, slow, and the atmosphere was just no. My personal fav was Eversong Woods by a longshot.
Medalyn Usa I'm with you...the draenei one is totally boring but I love the blood elf one... I would create horde toons and go lever there cause I love it so much
I'm honestly shocked that your #1 was not in Acherus. xD
I would've put Teldrassil as #3 for nostalgia reasons. My very first character was a Night Elf druid. It will always hold a special place in my heart.
Agreed.
Exactly the same
No Pandarian starting zone?
This was my favourite by far
The Pandarian starting zone is probably my second favourite starting zone.My favourite starting zone is the Draeni's starting zone😀
PrimalTurtwig WHY?!
Nixxiom is not a fan of eastern stuff.
number one is number 14 in my list :D

Sanoks se Muonio?
10: Elwynn.
Are you mostly horde yes or no
No goblin starting area? You don't like to party, drink and horde money? :(
+Quettesh I thought that´be number 1 too
+Quettesh I'm sorry but I hate it.. It takes hours to finish it, I just simply hate it...
To damn big and long, That's what she said!
I f-ing love Kezan
WHERE IS FUCKING PANDA ZONE!? >:C
TRUE
Hugo Daniš You gave up the truth the moment you said pandas suck.
+Hugo Daniš good joke :)
goblin starting zone until the boat crashes
Dude... I prefer Azurmyst isle to that, I favourite is maybe Gilneas.
+Fraser Gill I agree,Goblin is the best by far
Fraser Gill Who doesn't love planning a party behind the Goblin king and shooting balls at Deathwing amirite?
I have a hatred towards goblins. They're rude to me for no reason, so the one time I did try out a goblin I ran over everyone in the car.
The best
My number 1 starting zone is Gilneas...i realy like worgens and their lore
Lol, I did not expect my favourite to end up as no. 1 on your list :D It's not really the quests that make it great, those a decent. But the general feel this zone has is incredible!
Totaly agree with you Nixxion,Azuremyst Isle is in my oppinion too the best and the most beautiful starting zone in WoW.
That land will always have a special place in my heart just like the Draenei.
I adore the music and the hole chain quests, the landscape is amazing and full of beauty.
im a horde player and even i think 10 should be higher
I agree to Tirisfal Glades being high, but aren't the Goblin, Pandaren and Deathknight zones pretty good too?
Most newer zones tend to have a LOT more detail both in lore and scripted events.
I'd have to say my top 5 are: 5) Echo Isles, 4) Kezan, 3) Elwynn, 2) Tirisfal, and 1) Gilneas
#10:Echo Isles
#9:Ashenvale
#8:Quel'Thalas
#7:Kezan
#6:Gilneas
#5:DKs
#4:Wandering Isles
#3:Elwynn
#2:Tirisfal Glades
#1:Dun Morogh
Favourite: Tirisfal
Most Hated: Azuremyst Isle
#1 is gilneas for me - quests are cool, fantastic atmosphere, awesome lore
#2 is mulgore - mostly for the nostalgia factor, it was my first starting zone and i just love these open grassy plains, the zone is also very calming
3# echo isles - TROLLS! exciting quests, jungle feeling and awesome lore
Nixx, Azuremyst Isle is the most boring zone ever, I literally fell asleep the first time I did it what are you on?
+Lizrdspheerx I know right? Draenei are one of my favourite races but I always head straight to Goldshire after hitting level 8-10.
I usually just head to Goldshire, after finishing the starting zone (ammen vale)
I found myself going back to Azuremyst Isle many times, hypnotized by the setting and its lore. Not my number 1 but I love it there nonetheless.
I would rate my Top Five Starting Zones as such:
1 - The Wandering Isle (Pandaren)
2 - Trisfal Glades (Forsaken)
3 - Gilneas (Worgen)
4 - Scarlet Enclave (Death Knight)
5 - Mardum, the Shattered Abyss (Demon Hunter)
Nice list, if you haven't, try goblin's one. Seems everyone but me hates it lol
I ❤️ being pandairian and blood elf
+Zarckhan True
worst class in the game so no amazing starter zone
+jason simpson wtf are u talking about? DK starting zone is so much fun to play, I can't stop playing it over and over again I just love it
+Zarckhan Cus this is a top 10 about the zones themselves and Eastern Plaguelands isn't much of a starting zone as its a small phased instance on its own
+John BANANA dk are worst class in game there starter zones mediocre at best
watching old nixxiom videos for a big rush of nostalgia and happiness
Tirisfal Glades is my favorite starting zone...
to be honest, i really REALLY like the gilneas music and i love the class you play aswel
My top 5 favorite starting places:
1. Demon Hunter
2. Goblin
3. Gnome
4. Human
5. Dwarf
Don't remember all of their locations though lol
Marduum, Kezan, Gnomeregon, Elwynn Forest, Dun Morogh.
Because I have no life. And no friends. And no future.
Hey I just wanted to say I enjoy your videos. I learn a lot from them considering I listen/watch to them at work, it's kind of like my WoW fix while I can't play.
Eversong Woods deserved to be way higher on this list ;)
Fuck forests
It's not depressing. It's just enjoyingly dark, foggy, atmospheric. Very cool zone. Love gilneas. I really wish that some day there's an expansion in which the Worgen reclaim and rebuild Gilneas and is a functioning city like the rest of them. Maybe soon now that some kind of peace is in the making between Alli and Hor. Seeing as there's no warchief. There's a council. And they said they want peace. So maybe Worgen and Forsaken don't have to fight anymore. Especially cause sylvanas is not in charge anymore
WHAT, was my zone not good enough for you!!?!?
As a Finn I am truly impressed that I understood when you said "Muonio" :D
Azuremyst Isle is literally the most boring starting zone for me and every time i started a Draenei i couldnt wait to get out of there as soon as possible.
+CounterstrikerGS I honestly assumed it was a troll answer and he'd be like "naw just kidding here is my real number 1." Back when the hearthstone promotion came out to get a character to level 20 the #1 tip people had for new players was "don't make a blood elf or draenei because those starting areas suck"
Agreed, even Eversong Forest is more interesting and less boring.
Totally agree
Yes!! that's why I made a draenei dk so I wouldn't have to start there xD
+CounterstrikerGS Totally agree
I would really like to see a full-length story of Azuremyst Isle done from the perspective of the Quests, and having the NPCs found there actually doing more shit than they were first given to do than just meager Quest givers.
1. Gilneas
2. Wandering isle
3. Tirisfal Glades
4. Echo isles
5. Mulgore
6. Kezan
7. Ebon hold
8. Teldrassil
9. Azuremyst Isle
10. Eversong woods
(This is just my opinion pls don't get triggered)
Death Knight is my personal favorite, the fact that no matter which faction you are, you’ll see people kneel at the end, we come together for this amazing lore moment
Gilneas reminds me soo much of diablo for some reason. I can imagine my demon hunter run through a bruning gilneas stabbing things
melee demon hunter best
me too, also demon hunter master race
for me gilneas reminds me of bloodborne.
This video made me remember my first WoW days, wow such nostalgia. Thank you
Number 10 Elwynn forest? Are you high and/or insane?
The Forsaken was my first race, and I've always loved Tirisfal Glades too. Always head over there right after dinging lvl 5 on belves. Love the gloom & doom of Gilneas for the same reason. DK starting instance too.
Eversong Woods is the best!!!
Noobelli yesssss🙋♀️🙋♀️🙋♀️
For me it would be:
3. draenei area
2. Undead area
1. Tauren, my first toon was a tauren,i loved how open and peaceful mulgore felt
I'm insulted! You didn't even give Kezan a chance?!
+Gregoron Blackbane I think kezan is horrible but lost isles are pretty awesome
Gonna be real honest with you, azuremist is terrible
+Jonah Marx When it comes to questing yes it is. But as far as aesthetics go, this is #1 in my book. The music gives me the chills all the time and the place is so magical... but to level in it, yeah not much to admire there.
Totally agrees on the #1 choice dude ! especially when you got back at that time where, as a chaman, you had to learn how to summon your different totems through a bunch of really cool quests learning how to control the elements and all... Very nice place
Does the DK starting zone count? I love that one.
Absolutely should count imo, it's probably the best, though I also enjoy the Wandering Isle quite a bit.
I totally agree with you on #1. I love that you get a parade in your honor when you complete the zone.
I feel this is dangerously close to Non-content top 10 territory... Watch out to not enter Crendor's non-territory.
My top 17 Starting Zones:
1. Gilneas
2. Dun Morogh
3. Eversong Forest
4. Mulgore
5. Kezan
6. Teldrassil
7. Elwynn Forest
8. Eco Islands
9. Pandaren Starting Zone (I don't know the name)
10. Archerus/DK Starting Zone if i don't say the real or correct name
11. Azuremyst Isle
12. Programmer Isle (Only if you are of staff team of blizzard, pirate servers, etc)
13. Designer Isle (Only if you are of staff team of blizzard, pirate servers, etc)
14 Mardum
15. GM Island (Only if you are of staff team of blizzard, pirate servers, etc)
16. Durotar
17. Tirisfal Glades
''If you read this, go away'' - Designer Island.
NO KAZAN!!! WHAT IS THIS, I'm salty that those beat Kazan
Azuremyst.........god I love that place....hence I've rolled about 9-10 fuckin -Tau- Spacegoats.
Glad I'm not the only one who loves Azuremyst! So many memorable experiences from that zone!
Will I be murderes in my sleep for saying the wandering isle is my favorite?
*murdered
Prolly
Nah, it really is pretty!
Okay ,it's weird now i see you every where in this comment section, also pandaren starting zone is so calm ,and beautifull, and a giant GODDAMN TURTLE
lucian the reaper Naruto rip-off
Solid list and I can see why you chose them as you did.
What about the goblin starting zone? It was funny and well-paced. Although it was a very long starting zone.
I just love Gilneas and the atmosphere in it. The music is great, the quests are awesome, zone looks amazing and I like how it's always raining there. I've made many worgen chars to run through the zone and questline over and over.
#1 Eversong Woods!
The atmosphere, the music, the forest, the quest and the story are the best! idk but this zone has got the most magic in for me ♡
I could lvl up in this zone a thousand times and still love it.
Corvo A same!
Great list Nixxiom. I love your videos! In my opinion though, Eversong Woods will always be #1.
Eversong Woods soundtrack makes me feel indescribably weird. Anyone else?
Inebriated Individual go in Eversong Woods when it's the night. You will hear a Lament of the Highborne version without Sylvanas in sound , pretty nice. I like Eversong Woods' music in general , but in the night that place is majestic and the music.
Teldrassil and Azuremyst are super nostalgic for me so they get that young red tinted favor from me. When I first played WoW 8 years ago I rolled a night elf hunter, and soon after a draenei shaman.
The music and the atmospheres of the zones just _get me._
panda zone is fun dont even lie
Agreed but he didn't say it what a shame.
+papabeanguy Nostalgia aside that would be my 2nd fave. So bright & colourful, with amazing music & questing for both factions. Love it.
I agree with your #1 one hundred percent. To this day the Draenei starting zone is so cool. So many unique quests, has an EXCELLENT pay-off, and looks nice.
Gilneas is best. I hope that gilneas will be returned to alliance city during battle for azeroth.
I think my favorite starting zone is the death knight one. I just loved that whole story line and have played it multiple times
Kezan is my favorite of all of them cause I am huge goblin nerd. Goblins all the way!
Goblins are freaks but it make them very cute little green creatures :D
Couldn't agree more with your #1 pick! So mystical, ambient..
