    Hi Gid, currently on a joinery apprenticeship and just wanted to say your videos are invaluable. Being able to see first hand how a working joiner in the UK gets on; day to day is incredibly useful. Thank you:)

      Hi, I got made redundant from where i started after 5yrs, i worked through the agencies for a while working on all sorts of jobs/sites. i really felt out of my depth at first even though i'd done 5-6yrs by then but in the end it was good for me, i learnt from many people good & bad techniques, after a while i dropped the agencies having got to know & work just for a few firms, the good ones, they kept me employed for 10yrs-ish getting me in when they had a job or two that needed extra hands, Working on many different & with many different people i learnt a lot, so this is just my way of sharing & if it helps someone like yourself, good! i wish you the best, My apprentice teacher said something along the lines of 'If there's a quicker or easier way to do something that isn't lowering the quality of the work, he'd always keep an open mind & consider it, then make his own mind up which technique to use' , In this job i've seen a few people who have all the qualifications but spend hrs doing the job, fannying around trying to get it perfect, it's a balance between doing a good job & doing it in a reasonable length of time, repetition is sometimes the key, working through the agencies i worked on a student housing job, 6 of us hanging 700 doors over a couple of mths, i don't have to think too much about hanging a door now, But the main thing is be happy with & have pride in your work, strive for 100% perfect but that's not reality so when it doesn't meet that standard at least it'll 'Be right or good enough 👍' , it then also won't be a chore & it'll come easier day by day 👍👍 I'm glad the vids are useful, that's why i make the so that's good to hear & you're welcome,

      Thanks 👍 Yep, that's why people wait, a bit of patience n only a bit more cash, you get a far better product & hopefully they'll out live me, the hinges might fail but they've been a fairly standard fit for many yrs so should be easily replaced, 👍

    18g Milwaukee brad nailer is excellent Giid, thanks for the videos they are brilliant !!

      Thanks & you're welcome, glad you like them 👍 I had a look, but it looks a bit big & if it's like the narrow crown stapler i wouldn't have got it in between those shelves, btw the Hikoki which is also prob a bit bigger than the Makita has been stopped, discontinued, this Makita does ok on softwood & i tried the Hikoki 15g & 16g on Beech into ply & it did ok, so i'll just use those instead & accept a larger pin hole. - The narrow crown stapler works well so i might still buy the Milwaukee 18g though one day, if i have the spare cash 😂😂😂

      You don’t fancy the hitachi gas finish nailer? It’s a lovely wee gun and works great. Much less prone to jamming than the paslode, much cheaper than the battery powered equivalent and just works and works and works.

    Jobs coming on nice now mate, what size is the cabinet top ? It looks fairly substantial about 40mm, don’t see much MDF that size here, to be honest if I want any MRMDF i have to order it as it’s not stocked locally, mind you I do live out In the sticks a bit 👌👌👌👍👍👍🇦🇺

    • @Gidjoiner
      @Gidjoiner  2 роки тому +1

      Thanks Graham 👍 The MR MDF top is 30mm thick, all materials are a bit hard to get hold of at the moment here & prices are ridiculous, this bed i'm on right now has a box type shelf thing at the bottom, it needs a top 400mm x 1200mm, i would consider using 30mm to match the bed rails & some trim that's going around a shelf unit, but i got a quote for an 8x4, £95+20%vat 😮 it used to be about £40+vat, i'd buy a full sheet then i'd get 4 of these type of alcoves out of it, that's where this piece came from, ½ a sheet remainder from previous jobs, that bed is now getting a 25mm thick offcut instead. 🤷‍♂️
