Incredible j. Cipollina 🔝🏆⭐⚖️ GREAT COMPOSER 🏆‼️
Truly unique style. Good to see there are some fresh comments here. Gravenites/ Cipollina what a great band
I love that guitar! Had to look him up and glad I discovered him after seeing his rig! So wild
Just Unbelievable--Please say it ain't so; only the good die young, cause I'm in love. Ultimate talent!
Legends
Just can't get enough of Cipollina, now I'm ready to face the day on a high note.
I miss him
absolutely priceless. thank you so much for sharing.
Absolutely killer, great sound; one of a kind, man.
Cipollinas’ guitar is , as always, hypnotically mesmerizing, even without Owsleys’ compound assisting my audio to brain connection. He doesn’t get the kudos he earned and deserves. RIPJohn. You’re music is eternal.😎
Eternal is what I am trying to preserve. Started 18 years ago posting here. The Rockpalast being my first post. Sent a copy to a friend in Canada who posted the track in its entirety.✌️✌️✌️🎶😎
The 'Unvicious Circle' is a great sample of JC's playing. It includes all the musical qualities that made his style so cool and distinctive. I like the way he tunes up 'on the fly'. (that the Bigsby for you) Thanks for sharing it. TB
Priceless footage. THANKS.
Thank you for making this available again. It is great.
Have your mind blown by the bat!
John knew EVERY goddam note he wanted to hit....
thank you i love john
Damn John was so FUCKIN'great RIP BRO
one of my favourite guitar player - thought he was forgotten - but surprise! - thanxs alot
Great!!!
Thanks for posting,
Uncle Dave
Does anyone remember the FOOL. That's not a bad thing.
This is pretty sick.
Gezzz , it is good to see this footage , I never heard anybody play like John and for that I am glad.. I have a fond memory of him playing with Link Wray, maybe someone will put up some footage of that.. Great stuff and Thanks Dave M for stirring the brain gravy !!
I did but Wolfgangs called the shots and it was removed.
KEYSTONE BERKELEY 1982 THUNDER AND LIGHTNING OPENING FOR ROY BUCHANAN IT CANNOT GET ANY BETTER THAN WHAT I SAW THAT EVENING.IT NEVER WILL EVER!!!!!!

I, mean we, where there, lovely memories
Holy shit! that SG is wicked
Looks like Jerry Garcias axe. If not it was built by the same craftsman
I saw him in Portland with the dinosaurs. Back in 87-88
John has a supercool style also hellakool pickguard
Greg Elmore from the Quicksilver Messenger Service on drums, he played for Cip till the end. He was at Nick's 80th B-Day party last year up here on the Russian River.
It's Marcus David on Drums mate
On the Raven record John plays this song in a duet with Greg Douglass playing slide, filling all the space in between John's leads. It's incredible. John always worked in the 2 guitar band format the best.
damfino1964 Be great to see some Raven or Copperhead here.. only vid I have seen of Copperhead is on the Recoil DVD... a worthy purchase.
@@unviciouscircle Yes, I've got that DVD set too, fantastic !
It is a real highlight! Nowbody is the best, But this tune is grnial!
Hung out with JC several times in NY when he as playing with the Dinosaurs. Besides being a great guitarist, he was a truly nice, gentle person.
THNX :) for caring an sharing, lol
peace n luv
Had a 'Copperhead' vinyl,once....Saw Cipollina play live w. Nick Gravenites & Big Bro'[after Janis],but friggin' amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!
Also, try listening to the album 'Maximum Darkness',by the MAN Band :John is the 'guest' Lead Guitarist :he sure makes ya' resonate'!!!!!!!XXXCreashonrebel
that mid80s Big Brother revival was a treat ... yes no Janis & the woman who sang said so but the band still kicked it just fine
Went to two of the three nights at the Roundhouse...was an amazing time.
Copperhead is a gem.
I love that music since 1967! I have many LPs and CDs with Chipolina. but for me, Happy Trails with Quicksilver is the best.
My comment is a tip for young people, they heard Cipollina first time. When you hear this music for the first time, it is not particular
I'll cast a vote for the Shady Grove LP
& check out the live mid80s Dinosaur shows some folk have been posting
you can get the whole set on dvd at Amozon: Rockpalast: West Coast Legends, Vol. 1
Nice little rambler with soul.

@zappafreek1963 ty for sharing that info a whole lot of talent..greetings from Greece/Canada...¸¸.¤°´¯`°{° Ouzotime is anytime °}°´¯`°¤.¸¸...
This guitarsound is unique! But for many people, they heard this sound for the first time, it is no particular, because the audio quality is not the best.
My advice, listen the legenndary LP "Happy Trails" (on CD or serach in You Tube) for more than one times, you will love this video!
I know I was thinking If you heard that SG live thru his amp it was amazing
handmade rock and roll
Legendary psychedelic rock guitarist John Cipollina (Quicksilver Messenger Service) joins forces with singer-songwriter Nick Gravenites (Electric Flag) in this vintage "Rockpalast" concert filmed live in 1980 at Germany's Kleine Westfalenhalle. The rare performance includes renditions of "Junkyard in Malibu," "Unvicious Circle," "Small Walking Box," "Buried Alive in the Blues," "Hot Rods and Cool Women" and "Who Do You Love?"
"small walk-in box" ... heard nick tell this story at a show once ... 30+yrs ago & I don't know that he wan't pulling our leg cuz I've worked a few restaurants & never met a "walk-in" refrigerator storage room you could get locked in even if you tried, but that was his story -- said he got locked in the walk-in for a while one day I suppose at some restaurant job in his youth(?) & composed that (one of my favorites) jam to pass the time until someone got him out.
dare I say nick did like to pull our leg some (for us?) to see (w/in our each self?) who was paying attention attentively & who was just following along on the bandwagon? great dance boogie w/ a useful time out bridge cuz the boogie part would wear me out to point I needed that calmer bridge as break
I saw Nick & John play Small Walk-in Box many times (yeah, I know, lucky me) but I never knew that story. I wouldn't put it past Granites to pull your leg with a story like that, but Nick seemed to tell the truth most of the time. Also, I have a friend who used to work at the Fillmore Auditorium in the mid- to late 80s, and HE got locked in the walk-in refrigerator with no way out or any way to let anyone know he was in there. Fortunately someone opened the door and let him out after 15 or 20 minutes. That IS a true story, so it can happen.
@slimturnpike John always seemed to be fighting tuning, you can see him touch up his tuning a couple of times in this video. But he always seemed to stick with his Gibson SG with Bigsby.
When you use the old style Bigsby as much as he did, on an SG it does require constant tune ups. When he switched to the Carvin it was more stable.
it would be difficult to be more out of tune than this
And somehow , he makes it his own, I love the constant tryst between S.G. and John
can I ask you to please tag all the Gravenites/Cipollina @ Rockpalast vids with
John Cipollina - Guitar, vocals
Nick Gravenites - Guitar
Marcus David - Drums
Al Staehely - Bass, vocals
thanx

weiss jemand wer die Gitarre von John heute spielt?Oder wer sie heute besitzt? Weltbekannt vom Man Cover Maximum Darkness
does anyone know the tuning?
I know nothing about it but was told by a paralysed guitarist that it was known as Open Tuning....
@@unviciouscircle is that the same as standard tuning?
@@ricklewis5804 not a musician myself..
Can anyone post some Copperhead.
so, where is the guitar...
keith it is in the R& R Hall of Fame
Damn.. Gibson should make a tribute SG of this guitar
hey slimturn...obviously you,ve never dropped..and i rec you keep it that way
+baliscotsurf That guy (slimturn) obviously doesnt play.. Cipollinas guitar is in double drop D.
Dropped? You mean like psychedelics?
i'm a fan but it would be more enjoyable if his guitar were in tune.
Looks like Jerry Garcias guitar
Nice guitar, but why does it sound so crappy?
Out of tune though.
