  • I built a little grill shed for my Camp Chef Woodwind 36 and FTG-600. Sick of having to buy and put on/take off covers for my grills, I spent a little more energy and a little more money to build something better and more useful. It has a cooler, and a prep and serving bar, and it turned out to be way more fun to cook out here than prepping indoors and running out to the grill a bunch of times. Hope you like it!

    Looks great! I'm doing a little research before I build my grill shack. I just got a bunch of free old tin roof panels. Going to try and use the tin for the roof and walls. Thanks for the inspiration.

      Thanks for watching! Glad you’re building one- I had a great time doing this, and it really was easier than I thought.

    This looks great! I'm designing something really similar. How tall is the roof in front and back?

    Looks very nice. I'm building one similar. Can you tell me the approximate dimensions? I'm guessing about 10' x 10' since the roof panels are 12'. Thanks

      Thanks Chris! I don’t remember the exact dimensions, but I think it was 10’x10’, I definitely know I used standard lumber, and kept it simple. It held up really well over the winter, It soaked up some of that asphalt paint, and I think after another coat of “black beauty” she’ll be even more waterproof and the structural members should be even more protected. I wish I could re-coat the ends that are on the concrete (which is another big precautionary measure to keep that wood sealed) but oh well :) Good luck on your build!

      @@sparrowsblood Thanks for the reply. After measuring this morning, I think mine will need to be 9 x 11, but watching your video was a great help with some ideas. I'm going to try and knock out as much as possible over spring break and if I get the chance to video it, I'll share a link with you. Take care, Chris :-)

    That’s awesome! Do you store stuff in it for winter?? I’m thinking about building one myself for storage /bar area / grilling/patio furniture storage for winter !

      Thanks! I do keep the barstools sand the cooler in there for the winter- I finally bought deck boxes for patio furniture cushions after buying new ones almost every year for the last five years lol

    Do you have a material list for this build? I've been looking for something like this for my grills here in Michigan.

    Cover the ends of those bolt things with duct tape, someone will blind themselves on it.

    where did you get the vinyl front cover for the window ? I wanna do this to mine.

    • @sparrowsblood
      @sparrowsblood  2 роки тому +1

      I put snap rivets into a vinyl backed canvas dropcloth- I picked up the snaps and took on EBay for like $10 and the dropcloth was maybe $15 at Menards. It was super easy and has held up pretty well. The side window where the door is just rolls down and I use spring clamps to hold it, $2 each at Harbor Freight

    How did you put the roof beams in? How are they attached to the bottom beam? Thanks.

    • @sparrowsblood
      @sparrowsblood  2 роки тому

      I did a 2x6 between the front and back 4x4’s and did birdmouth on the 12’ beams

      Ok one more question. How do you attach them after the birds mouth cut outs. Thanks and looks great.

    How can I get plans for buliding

    • @sparrowsblood
      @sparrowsblood  4 місяці тому

      I’ll see if I can find my original drawings; it really was just a sketch and I used Home Depot lumber and hardware

  • @earlhines1826

    nice job do you have the plans

    • @sparrowsblood
      @sparrowsblood  3 роки тому +2

      I just drew up some sketches based on the space I had and the amount of materials I wanted to budget. The roof slope and spacing was what I was most concerned with, having to support a snow load during the Michigan winters. I ended up using a simple method I found with a Google search for “corrugated steel roof pitch” and “rafter and purlin spacing” etc. I’m not a carpenter, and there were definitely some lessons learned and things I would do differently- but it came out pretty good. My main points of advice would be plan it out well, and paint it as you build, (especially the ends) so the wood is sealed and doesn’t soak up rain- don’t skimp on the hardware- on the roof use the self tappers with the rubber washers so that it doesn’t leak- and I’d advise anchoring to the foundation with molly bolts or using blocks if you’re not on a patio. Good luck!

    What's the size of the footprint?

    • @sparrowsblood
      @sparrowsblood  3 роки тому

      8x10’ if I remember correctly. It’s big enough for one person to cook comfortably, and two people isn’t super cramped, but more than that and it gets a little tight.
