Heat Treat Prep for AEB-L and Nitro-V
Doing the stainless steel tool wrap packets for the heat treat on a batch of blades- get one of these if you have to do this- it’s SOOOO much easier than sheet metal pliers or a hammer!

New Grill shed!
Переглядів 66 тис.4 роки тому
I built a little grill shed for my Camp Chef Woodwind 36 and FTG-600. Sick of having to buy and put on/take off covers for my grills, I spent a little more energy and a little more money to build something better and more useful. It has a cooler, and a prep and serving bar, and it turned out to be way more fun to cook out here than prepping indoors and running out to the grill a bunch of times....
new chefs knife

Here's the new carbon steel chefs knife I'd started a while back- It has a 9" blade with a great hamon line, and a stabilized buckeye burl wood handle.

The newest kiridashi, with a new kydex sheath/buckle set up I'm working on.
Throwing something together for CIUS...

Didn't have much time, or the stock that I wanted, but I fired something up for tomorrow. We'll see if it chops anything....
small and pointy.

A couple of 1095 neckers that I ripped out after work today. They were quick and dirty, (start to finish in a few hours) but I thought they turned out cool enough for me to see what you guys thought of 'em.

A look around my shop to show guys the equipment I've found useful, and small companies worth working with for tools/machines.
Oxblood Utility knife gen 1

Here's a look at the new oxblood utility knife that I've been working on.
How can I get plans for buliding
I’ll see if I can find my original drawings; it really was just a sketch and I used Home Depot lumber and hardware
Slick!!!
Random question, can you reuse the stainless steel envelopes?
You might be able to, actually; they do get quite stiff, and don’t seem like they’d hold up for more than a second use at best, even with the thicker sheets that I use. Next time I do a run I’ll try it out!
Cool!
Very nice the dimensions would be ??
How did you put the roof beams in? How are they attached to the bottom beam? Thanks.
I did a 2x6 between the front and back 4x4’s and did birdmouth on the 12’ beams
Ok one more question. How do you attach them after the birds mouth cut outs. Thanks and looks great.
Great idea with the j bolts.
That's class my man...
I really like it, great work. Im in California and i am going to build one with telephone pole and about 12x16 you have some great ideas to add.
where did you get the vinyl front cover for the window ? I wanna do this to mine.
I put snap rivets into a vinyl backed canvas dropcloth- I picked up the snaps and took on EBay for like $10 and the dropcloth was maybe $15 at Menards. It was super easy and has held up pretty well. The side window where the door is just rolls down and I use spring clamps to hold it, $2 each at Harbor Freight
Do you have a material list for this build? I've been looking for something like this for my grills here in Michigan.
Cover the ends of those bolt things with duct tape, someone will blind themselves on it.
Super cool! 😎 Great job on the bbq shack.
This looks fantastic! I really like the unique window fastening, windows ... just amazing.
Thanks for motivation to build my own BBQ hut
Thanks for watching! Glad you’re building one- I had a great time doing this, and it really was easier than I thought.
What's the size of the footprint?
8x10’ if I remember correctly. It’s big enough for one person to cook comfortably, and two people isn’t super cramped, but more than that and it gets a little tight.
How much did it cost
About $400 in materials
Looks very nice. I'm building one similar. Can you tell me the approximate dimensions? I'm guessing about 10' x 10' since the roof panels are 12'. Thanks
Thanks Chris! I don’t remember the exact dimensions, but I think it was 10’x10’, I definitely know I used standard lumber, and kept it simple. It held up really well over the winter, It soaked up some of that asphalt paint, and I think after another coat of “black beauty” she’ll be even more waterproof and the structural members should be even more protected. I wish I could re-coat the ends that are on the concrete (which is another big precautionary measure to keep that wood sealed) but oh well :) Good luck on your build!
@@sparrowsblood Thanks for the reply. After measuring this morning, I think mine will need to be 9 x 11, but watching your video was a great help with some ideas. I'm going to try and knock out as much as possible over spring break and if I get the chance to video it, I'll share a link with you. Take care, Chris :-)
@@sparrowsblood Thanks for the ideas. I finally finished the one I have been working on since April. ua-cam.com/video/KxbwyIYkI5o/v-deo.html
That’s awesome! Do you store stuff in it for winter?? I’m thinking about building one myself for storage /bar area / grilling/patio furniture storage for winter !
Thanks! I do keep the barstools sand the cooler in there for the winter- I finally bought deck boxes for patio furniture cushions after buying new ones almost every year for the last five years lol
Love it!!!
This looks great! I'm designing something really similar. How tall is the roof in front and back?
nice job do you have the plans
I just drew up some sketches based on the space I had and the amount of materials I wanted to budget. The roof slope and spacing was what I was most concerned with, having to support a snow load during the Michigan winters. I ended up using a simple method I found with a Google search for “corrugated steel roof pitch” and “rafter and purlin spacing” etc. I’m not a carpenter, and there were definitely some lessons learned and things I would do differently- but it came out pretty good. My main points of advice would be plan it out well, and paint it as you build, (especially the ends) so the wood is sealed and doesn’t soak up rain- don’t skimp on the hardware- on the roof use the self tappers with the rubber washers so that it doesn’t leak- and I’d advise anchoring to the foundation with molly bolts or using blocks if you’re not on a patio. Good luck!
Awesome bro
Very nice 👍🏽
Looks great! I'm doing a little research before I build my grill shack. I just got a bunch of free old tin roof panels. Going to try and use the tin for the roof and walls. Thanks for the inspiration.
Thanks, Thomas- That blade shape has become my primary design- I can't wait to make a liner lock verson of this. I hope you subscribe and check it out!
Thanks, man! I actually forgot that I clay coated this one, so I'm gonna sand/etch it a few times, and see what kind of hamon might be there- I'll make another vid if it turns out cool.
looks good man
Thumbs UP! Hope to see you on Chop It Up Sunday
I like the super blue a lot. I want to add some other stuff to it, though- and see if I can get a unique effect, that can be a signature finish... We should talk about salts- I'm interested!
Sorry to see a bacon blade on that hollow grind bro, bad times!
Cool, I can't wait mate!
Thanks, guys!
Very cool shop man, looks like you've amassed quite a collection of tools over the years then! :)
Thanks, Andy- Yeah, man- I want a bigger wheel for hollows. It's strange that there's such a price jump from 8" to 10" and above wheels... I also want a small wheel for stuff.
before that on the to get list... laptop had a spaz
and the block for plunge lines with the carbide inserts, very smart... I really want a TIG set but the 10" wheel is
holy shit your shops well kitted out! I love the small bandsaw setup
Very nice Chris!
I do my own kydex. I would like to get into doing leather sheaths for some stuff, but that's alot more time consuming. I'mnot sure what the primary bevel is, but I put a 30 degree microbevel on them. Glad you like them!
Thanks, man- I'll see what I can put together for that video. Sounds fun! I only make knives part time, but someday I hope to go pro. Thanks for checking out my stuff!
Thanks, man!
I found you on DRK. I like the style on this knife. Good job bro!
