I am thinking that is one lucky group of dry cows. Something tells me in two months from now in Saskatchewan those girls will be more than happy to return to the barn.
You do a great job with your videos and I really admire how hard you work. Your parents have raised three very responsible children and they should be extremely proud of what you all have accomplished and do for the family business. Keep up the good work and keep making those videos!
Jon. Thank you for taking all of us along with you on the challenges of a farm day video. Just a note every day is a new challenge, so it never gets old. 🤗😊👍 Please take care. Richard
Jan I know dairy farming is a none stop job 365 but as retired dairyman I hope you take some time for your self as well as your sister's I know I did not do that myself and as I looked back it was a mistake on my part but my wife and I have survived and as we both look back we really wondered how we did it. You and your family seem to be a great and loving family and can only wish the best for you guys. Ps really love watching your video's
That was a pleasant surprise we were thinking you were so busy that you weren't going to be able to make a video for a while I want to see another one so soon was good. We sure enjoyed it thank you
If you leave bales stacked like that you will have to tarp them. Otherwise they will freeze together like you mentioned, and they will absorb and hold a lot of moisture for a long time.
Always excellent content & commentary. I was typing a question - "why do you have to unstack the upper bales?"; and you quickly explained the reason. 🚜 🚜 🚜🐄🐄🐄🐄🐄🐄🐄🌽🌽🌽🐄🐄🐄🐄 🚜 🚜🚜
Thanks friend Jan, I am a fan of dairy farming. 1. I did not understand what dry cows are and what they are used for. 2. How do the cows get to the milking parlor without stimulation or reinforcement🤔what motivates them? Before I used to give them dry food one or two pounds during the process and that was the reinforcement 😁. Now I see that they come in and that's it🤔They leave happy...
Having a full udder is quite stimulation enough to head into the milking parlor (like when you have a really full bladder). They soon learn how relieved they feel after milking and that's enough.
About "dry cows" - Dry cows are cows that are taking a "break" from being milked. In order to produce milk, a cow has to have a calf. A cow is usually bred shortly after she has a calf, then produces milk for several months, and then is "dried off" and becomes a dry cow for two months to give her a rest before her next calf is born.
3:35 you should also go and view Rohrer Dairy Productions Aka SmartAsh and ToeKnee as they farm in the USA Lancaster Pennsylvania as SmartAsh says every Dairy Farm is different but they have similar jobs to do
Because it would be further out, the weight stress would probably require a heavier, stronger arm pickup arm. Thzt's possible, I guess. But you would have to load one every 3rd bale, so that they could move back when the bales underneath are moved. Might also need a stronger motor in the chain drive, and might cause more damage to the netwrap when moving a heavier stack. Also the bales would not be stacked across 2 lower bales (as Jan does it with the loader), so possibly more chance of falling off.
Should be getting a call tomorrow from the farm my cousin works at never worked at one, I'm either driving or milking would be my guess any tips, should I be nervous

Hello there, Jan. I have been watching your videos for two or three years now (LOL - I can't quite believe it!) and even after all of this time I still find your vids entertaining and informative - love watching the change of seasons there where you are.. Having been around cows myself for a bit. . . I'm wondering if the strong smell bothers you at all when you are scraping the wet aisles with the tractor tire thing. Eh, probably not - I am sure you are used to it by now. But I'll bet a lot of your subscribers would be surprised at the strong smell! 🙂🙂🙂
My uncle and aunt owned a dairy. I would spend the summers with them. After about a week you get used to it. It ends up having more of a sweet smell than you would imagine. On my uncles farm at least his holding area "was outside" was the worst smelling part. Since it is where the urine stayed for the longest. Manure isnt that bad smelling compared to the urine.
are you guys looking at getting a grapple for the case loader? seems like one would have been handy all harvest season with the miles the New Holland has been putting on
I honestly think if Brent is a good mechanic and welder you could get an extension built on the lifting arm of the bale wagon so it could stack the higher row without needing the wheel loader driving back and forth
My opinion the bale moving setup is to small for there operation they should use maybe double set of 30ft wagons or more and load with loaders bring way more home at once have the one loader at field and get a big bale prong for case loader and unload two at yard
@@jordanhodnett5273 oh yeah way more efficient then 14 or how many he can carry and they do multiple 1000s lol the amount of time they could be saving is crazy

Cows certainly seem excited when the sand beds are freshly fluffed up.

a little engineerin, some fabracation, one of the p/u arms could have a added loop that would load a second row for every trip.. possibly

@@dralord1307 I agree! After a short period of time, the manure smell isn't bad at all.

Stewart from Australia 🇦🇺 how many cows do you milk?
That number changes weekly. The last number he gave was around 360.
Thanks Yan, hope your day was great.
Jan is looking lean and TIGHT! We need his workout vids.
A change in the barometric pressure will d do that to cattle. Was there a storm or big change in the weather within 24 hours?

Jan does a full moon have an effect cow behavior.
Their milking cows are inside all the time and never see the moon.
Lots of work waste time restocking them we stack 6 high and have no problem with the netwrap
🇺🇸🙏🇨🇦
What are those fat string-like contours on the belly before the utter of the cows....?
Veins.
How come the picture doesn't jump around while you're running?
Either his camera is on a gimbal, or he's using his GoPro. Which is an action cam, designed to have good internal image stabilization.
Just thinking watching you clean the parlor that you guys must go through 1000’s of liters of water each day.
They have 2 or 3 wells to supply the water.
And a lot of it is re-used -- like washing th floors is not done with clean well water.

Why do you have so many cracked windshields
Seems like you never sleep. Such is the life of a dairyman. Sleep is something you get when you can and sometimes you can’t. .
So much poop!
I started to wonder why. Google told me a dairy cow poops 15 times a day! True?

Why do you take the calves away from the mother.
So that they can know how much milk they take and secondly, they are weak and can be rolled on by the big cows
I think he has explained that in an older video. Primarily a better survival rate
Delete it
The lady 14:49 was Tokyo drifting haha, hopefully she is ok!

They have one. However, Jan prefers the control of a manual one.
