Rashmika, according to me, is an overated actress because most of the Indian audiences (youths) decided to make her national crush.

Watched with English subtitles and must say 2 hours 55 minutes went like a breeze. Totally agree about the unwanted romance angle but i also do understand it is a mass entertainer. Definitely recommended
Not just a mass entertainer but a mass entertainer done right.

It would have been better had the romance and the songs been reduced because the syndicate and that world felt more interesting. The power dynamics should have been explored more. While Fahad came late, I felt that the rivalry and the dynamic between him and pushpa were set up perfectly and I feel like part 2 would be great if it focused purely on the face off between them both.
Spider-Man is way more better than this crap.

You won't witness much of fahad ...he has small part in first part ...you need to wait for the Second one
Oh.. you want to watch Fahaadh Faasil acting... for that you should watch last 25 minutes of this movie.
He comes at last
He didn’t 😂…

The film should never have been made into 2 parts. This film lack substance, Villian's character wasn't fully developed. Some stories should be completed in 1 movie itself. Makers followed the trend of Bahubali and Kgf and this happened. Expected more from Sukumaar
Only if it was made a single part movie...the fahadh and allu face off would be awesome
In title only it was mentioned that how the character rised. And the fight between them should be another level. Pushpa part 1 in last has small scene which makes part 2 exciting. Anyways I liked the movie.
@Baruch Spinoza yes..but I think the scenes with fahadh at the end of pushpa were brilliant...and most intriguing of the movie...so part 2 might be a real blockbuster with their face off

@Baruch Spinoza yeah I am just saying..comment after seeing second part bro ! It might be good or bad .
While I know for a fact that several departments have failed in one place or the other, my heart goes for Sukumar. A genius writer who has always stayed true to his way of taking, given masterpieces has ended up making an average movie like Pushpa. If at all they weren't ready with post production, they could have easily shifted the movie to February, worked on the problematic aspects and released it along side Acharya. Sukumar might be a new face to the North audience, he for Telugu audience is very very special. No matter what, I hope Sukku corrects the underwhelming aspects, thinks out of the box technically and gives the best for the part - 2.
Who knows he might surprise us in part 2 😌😁
Actually in starcast of Acharya ,Allu's family members are there so he won't clash with them
@@odboss4024 even I thought of it, but the similar version is happening for Sankranti. Ram Charan facing off against Pawan Kalyan

I think this is the first time that I'm disagreeing to Jammy's review. I found the movie to be an absolute blast. The plot for me was great too because this movie aspires to be a franchise. Maybe rn we aren't open to this movie but I'm sure that after its installation comes it would become a cult movie.
And it became the cult 🔥.
It still has a bad story, pls don't try to cover up the absolute load of shit the plot is.
I rarely enjoy mass entertainer type film but I could tell by just watching the first 30 mins that something was unique about this film.
Definitely would recommend to watch

I just watched the movie yesterday night in the theatre and I was so disappointed in the music and the some of the drag on scenes! I feel this movie is getting criticism for no reason at all. Editing glitches are there I agree. But if you read properly, title is pushpa the rise it means the challenges faced by protagonist to reach the height of smuggling mafia. I feel that narrative was very well shown. This first part is just an introduction to pushpa and other characters. I was not bored for a second in this 3 hr long movie as I was and most of us was just wondering what next will happen with pushpa. We should also appreciate movie's end on a high note.

True
correct
finally, someone who has the same opinion as me. I never felt bored throughout the movie. He is introducing a world and it is shown nicely. they could have cut the songs but rest all felt good watching. i would be mad if they didnt show how he rose to power without details
Lots other critics like him tried really hard to give negative review in the beginning but can't stop the movie from becoming a super hit and we all know they did this.
I believe Pushpa 'the rise' is directors attempt to bring the audience into the world of sandalwood trade and connect audience with pushpa as the character. It's a difficult thing to pull off. And it worked just like bahubali... Going into 2nd part in theatre audience will already be aware of everything and then it can focus only on the conflicts.
Despite not being a Telegu language native, I watched this movie subtitled and was thoroughly entertained. I can see how this may have worked as a mini series, and a few slackening tropes aside, this movie skips through its 3 hour runtime. It remains to be seen, but I believe that in the same way as the original LOTR trilogy, Pushpa will have to be judged on its entirety as opposed to just the first part. Also, in my opinion, Allu Arjun is well on his way to becoming India's biggest star!
Same with me From reviewers to some friends dissed this movie so I missed to watch this movie in theatre and watched in online Damn pretty good movie Not unnecessary non logic fight scenes,All actors lived as characters and Some love laggy scenes apart Songs well made pretty solid Movie and Next part we will see full conflict
@@davidbilla8063 dude many people dont know sukumar's strategy and theme at all. As a guy who was following sukumar since my childhood pushpa is an epitome for his complete style when part 2 releases, bcoz take whatever movie of sukumar, there always two stories running at same time. He was showing us the story of pushparaj on screen to show for mass audience, but the movie is underlayingly shows the story of red sandalwood smuggling syndicate. In an interview sukumar told that this story is a complex one so he decided to shoot it as web series but the funding for this series will not be enough show it and shoot it in real life jungle. So he decided to do it like that. But these songs of mujra, saami saami and their cringey love scenes(not srvalli because she and his mom are someone who emotionally humanise him) are just made to attract mass audience. by those scenes this movie didn't work in theatres with class audience but when it was released on ott even class audience enjoyed this film. So lets wait till we see pushpa part 2 because that is completion of this film. And really if you see sukumar his storytelling and writng stories way in all his films is a masterpiece(not all stories or the movie just the way to tell and write). And making part 2s for single story is not his style and he didn't do a good job at a point. So i wanna appreciate sukumar in some aspects.
The movie without the love track would've been epic😅 I honestly enjoyed the mass part of the movie as an admirer of allu arjun. It did have underwhelming aspects but I didn't think it was that bad as you might have experienced. Maybe it should've just been a telugu film ❤❤
i feel like much of north audience missed the telugu audio feel/delivery
allu's best parts are his style, and for me his dialogue delivery,
the comedy parts were genuinely so good too,i mean even in this,he doesnt fail to kinda be a,,uk heartthrob character, his personality is as such, always shines fuckn through, genuinely any girl could fall for him!!!😩
besides,i didnt hear jammy mentioning even a lil about the comedic parts, though very subtle they were, they did give an effect on the audience,
made me fall in love w him,AGAIN.but ANYWAY,what i mean to say is,i hope these small minor yet imp details weren't missed in the hindi version, since jammy hasnt spoken about it,i was wondering
It made almost 50cr + in North without any promotion and screens were also less fur toh No way home .
Its huge victory for content and Allu Arjun fans from North 🔥🔥

Jammy, Sukumar is Great Director but Item Songs are important component in his films and It was the major pulling factor in his debut Arya 2004 and you know that '' AA Ante Amalapuram" which was rage.
It can be psychological film like 1 Nenokkadine or Rural Action Drama like Rangasthalam or Student Based Film like 100% Love but item songs is must for his films.
I think this movie suffers the same problem as Dune did, saving everything for the 2nd part and releasing the first part with minimal plot movement. The makers of pushpa might have expected that Pushpa raj is a layered character, so much that a separate movie should be made explaining his character, that's why they might have decided to release this story in 2 parts, where the first part is just about the hero's characterization and the main plot and conflict awaits for us in the 2nd one, based on the reviews, that wasn't a great idea
The character is not as complex to require a narrative spread between two films! Could have worked as a solo face off mass commercial film with two talented actors easily

I loved the movie. I know that there are some average scenes here and there and the romantic track was little over the top, but I have enjoyed the music, the colloquial dialogues in Telugu which might lose its beauty in translation, and performance of Allu Arjun and others and it was made for big screen. fafa is also an anti hero, that is what will make this faceoff incredible in part 2
Allu Arjun movies have always been sexist, the so called "heroines" do not add any depth to the plot of the cinema.. his movies always show him stalking, teasing the girl, making sexist comments, touching them, etc. If the lead actor does these, it is considered comedy but if the villain does this, it's considered evil. Who will explain them that both are the same? Waiting for the day when telugu movies start showing realistic female characters and plots.
🙋 yep
Concur
Not only in Allu Arjun's films. Tollywood hyped up Item song culture in Indian cinema which started idealising women as sexist objects. Remember when Ileana stated that the crew actually promoted a film only for her glamour appeal? The mob should stop normalising item songs, sex and steamy scenes on screen in the name of romance (when the script doesnot require), still the Mindset of the audience should change too.
Well, these movies dont need heroine actually. They just put it cause indian movies need heroine
@@maayas5312 yes, I totally agree. The worst part is that only these big actors have things called item songs. Stars like allu arjun, mahesh babu act like they support feminism and at the end of day produce movies like these. Hi bro,
I appreciate your content. In regards to this movie I believe that we are living in a different world compare to many out there. Let me tell you that there’re many people living the same life as what’s shown in this movie. Aggreeing to the fact the love episode are lengthy and unnecessary romantic episodes the rest about the character is a major reflexion of the male society living in the areas where the film is based in reality. Hiding the reality in form of fiction doesn’t help to change the thought process of a every individual. Coming to the length of movie, the prime focus of part 1 is to show the rise of an underdog and the attitide he has in acheiving his intent and this can be taken positively as a character development. Just a minor change in the way we think helps to break language barriers of a film (especially south films in north market). I understand the content you make is purely your own apprehension but people follow your thoughts blindly. A friendly suggestion from myside is to take into an account of thoughts from the people who speak same language as of a movie and know of their thoughts before putting it on main stream.
This is purely my thoughts on your content for Pushpa and I hope you take me on a right spirit.
Cheers.
Exactly... we'll said... this was My initial concern when the movie's trailer came in Hindi... the whole rustic charm was missing in Hindi version... his accent, his language, his delivery.. Allu Arjun outdid Many A-List actors..
Many here wanted more of Fahad , but the movie was not about Fahad, but that of Pushpa and his rise...
ABSOLUETELY.
FINALLY FOUND A COMMENT I THOUGHT OF EXACTLY THIS DUDE.
Actually the film suffers from poor editing . A lot of scenes could have been edited in both the halves . After introducing FaFa they should seriously ended the film . That love track was 😴😴
I feel like people really missed the charm of the movie if they saw it any language but Telugu. The way he spoke the language and his accent and the way he took over the character i was blown away throughout the entire movie. It would likely miss the mark in other languages. The Chittoor district accent and it’s characteristics are very distinct and essential to this story. Having some family belonging to the Rayalaseema side of Andhra, it was mind blowing to see those characters come alive on screen. I recently visited Tirupati and went around Anantapuram area, and omg i was very fascinated by how different the vibe was to my native familiar West Godavari area!
In order to fully appreciate Allu Arjun’s acting in this movie and the general story and plot line, you need to understand Telugu as a language and culture, and also the current and past political tensions within Andhra itself. For example, most people would never understand how Telangana is different from Andhra, but trust me it is, they have many festivals as well that i didn’t even know of until i saw it in a movie, the culture is so different! Similar to that Rayalaseema has a completely different vibe to it compared to the rest if Andhra and for an actor to completely own the character in this way and make you forget Allu Arjun and see him as Pushparaju was mind blowing! And not just the actor the whole movie, they nailed the time period, the culture, the story, and the sentiment! Hats off to Sukumar for pulling it off.
There was one part of the movie I genuinely did not enjoy, and it was the second policeman who joins the movie towards the end, Shekhawat. His acting or casting simply did not match the tone of the movie, I think that was a bad choice. But overall amazing movie!
No matter what the culture or politics the movie had a ton of problematic scenes. Any scene with Alu and Rashmika were just regressive in nature .Especially the part where he touches her chest. Way too many villains and they showed Allu could overcome them all too easily. The item song with Samantha could have been cut. If they had faith in Aa they just didn’t need it. Overall a good half hour could have been cut. Lastly the comment on the inspector, Shekawat, I couldn’t stop laughing at you’re jgnorance. He’s the best actor in India right now in terms of acting. He is Fahadh Faasil. Just watch any 5 of his movies to see he plays different characters in every movie. This is his first telugu movie. He is usually very picky in his scripts and I guess producer’s must have paid him handsomely for the role to pick this problematic movie. He’s all ready said no to many Hindi movie offers and has a Tamil movie coming with Kamal soon. Fahadh is probably the only saving grace in the movie but I did think his telugu dialect was little off. The movie could have made more money if they added him earlier before the interval, but instead saved him for last. And by the time he came I stopped caring because the movie was just boring me to death. For an industry that prides itself on making the best commercial masala movies this was a bore fest.
@@snak3eye547 You might be a Fahadh fan or something hence the triggered reply, but your ignorance in calling it a bore fest is very apparent. Sorry I haven’t seen his movies! I don’t like to define an actor by their past movies when I’m watching a movie. It is that particular movie and that particular character I’m interested in. The point about making more money by getting him earlier in the movie makes it seem like Allu Arjun or Sukumar (or many more big names in the movie) can’t bring an audience to theatres, which is a silly comment and you know it. This movie had big names, they were all great in their own right.
Coming to the point where the movie seemed a bit regressive at times, well yeah, to be fair it wasn’t set in 2021 with woke young characters. In fact even in 2021, there would be similar, if not more, regressive communities still existing in the more rural parts of India. Yes some scenes are problematic, they are not advertising those scenes, the man is a smuggler at best and a murderer at worst for god’s sake. Expecting such a character to be socially aware given the time and setting seems more regressive to me!
Am I the only one who thinks that it has become rashmika's forte to take up these kind of roles in her movies
I can't remember a good movie in which she played a prominent role
None she’s just eye candy. And she can’t act either.
she has a good PR team and some stupid fans who go behind her for looks and not talent

Loved your critique overall but I disagree with a few of them. The film and its creators are more intelligent than you give them credit for. I do not see any problem with the oo antava song; neither do I find it to be ironic. The song spends most of its time trash-talking men for being desperate and towards the end, Samantha asks "oo antava oo oo antava" ("is it a yes or a no") for which the men reply in chorus "oo antame papa oo oo antama papa" ("why would we say no, its obv a yes from us"). Despite all the trash-talking about men, they are still shamelessly going behind her. It perfectly captures how some men are blind to everything when they see a girl in revealing clothes (like Sam). So, there is no irony there. The is simply a vehicle to comment about the problematic male gaze. The oo antava song is only an item song if you see Samantha as an "item".
The romance angle might seem unwanted if you look at it as a standalone film. But I think there is a lot in store for Rashmika's character in part 2. At least, that's the hope.
I do not see the length of the film to be problematic because the creator used it effectively to build the world. Worldbuilding is always time-consuming and essential to make a layered yet "mass" film. I agree with the comment from Doctor Strange - this should be treated like Dune wherein the actual meat is for part 2. Nonetheless, part 1 did a terrific job of setting up the world and the characters.

Glad that atleast someone is calling out the problematic romantic angle in the movie. The people defending it by blaming his backround must understand that in the conversation with his friend it is shown that he realises what he's doing is Wrong but still CHOOSES to do it.
These people don't understand the heavy impact movies have on people, especially the youth. They will just assume that harassing a girl like this is completely valid and normal. And the fact that nobody is talking about it just makes the problem even more scarier.
What if such a scene would have been in a bollywood movie. I'm sure the reaction of people would have been completely different.
Boring 2nd half my foot!! This movie had me and my family hooked throughout, in fact the 2nd half was way saucier.
We were surprised that this movie got just one screen whereas 83 was given 5 screens. The theatre didn't even display the name of the movie on the Now Showing screen, yet the movie was housefull. It seems that this movie is being targeted to collapse, but I've a feeling this movie is the final nail in the coffin for other bollywood movie's .
Very true. This time Anmol has either sleepwalked through the movie or he was seriously funded by Bollywood to downplay this movie. I'm surprised that Anmol has found the music unappealing, it is anything but that, even the BGM is pitch perfect throughout the movie, there icing on the cake being the goosebump inducing climax song "hiranya pushpa prabhavam" that ends the movie on a high.
Kindly avoid such demeaning titles to the UA-cam video. What has happened to your taste Anmol? You've given a wonderful rating to the totally undeserving 83, where most of the actors are hamming through the while movie, is it really you or have you outsourced your work?
@@sunilnair3492 Totally... Even I think jammy has outsourced his work, forget 83 to heavily support a disastrous movie like "Atrangi Re" and having the audacity to pan a movie like Pushpa clearly shows that Jammy has joined the ranks of Rajeev Masand and Anupama Chopra who are on a leash and just bark on their owners behalf. As you rightly pointed out, there is not a single dull moment in Pushpa and the music is great, the fact that Jammy ignores this and misinterprets this is alarming. Get a grip on yourself Jammy, i would hate to see you lose the trust of your fanbase.
Indian actors are honestly so hypocritical when it comes to minting money. They keep vouching for the feminist movement at their convenience while continuing to work on item songs. It’s so easy for an established actor like samantha to take a stand against it and reject the film. Item songs are a direct interpretation of the recording dance culture and I can’t comprehend how we still have established actors take part in sequences that are only included in the script to titillate the mass audience.
And the lyrics are far more regressive if you understand the execution of the song. The language used, the enunciation and the vibe of the song only establishes that men cannot resist themselves and will gaze at EVERY woman out there. It’s not woke in any sense, by including such lyrics in item songs, they’re only normalising it and openly justifying the male gaze. DESPICABLE!!
Underrated and can't agree more. Sad how all these item numbers are reaching raving numbers on UA-cam
It's kind of strange that we can accept the titillation of mass audience with gruesome violence in a film whole heartedly. Never thinking kids would be influenced by them. But item songs and titillation of mass audience could be directly correlated with Feminism. If item songs can be correlated with behaviour towards women, then these glorification of violence should make Telengana one of the most violent state in India, that's not the case right?
It's not by coincidence that societies that behave as the custodians of Gender Equality have the most Strip Clubs
"If you look at the world with a hammer in your hand, all you see are nails"
@@user-ny7sg9mz1v see that's not the point, it's not a thing to do only with feminists, if you take kids to a gangster movie not expecting violence, that's a problem. But the problem is , even commerical movies have so much violence which is being aired in tv, kids will definitely watch it, which is a different story all together. But item songs they are so uncalled for and unnecessary. Her point was actors and actresses put on this cape as if they are opposing inequality and end up getting paid for item songs. Take films like Oopiri or Bahubali, those item numbers were unnecessary. Talking about strip clubs, people know what they are paying for, whereas any ordinary parent will not want to cringe at every movie because they know their kid is going to see some random lady in short clothes surrounded by many men will be doing some unpleasant dancing
@@waltissussybakka "People know what they are paying for" that defines what comes under equality. So it's just a lack of awareness about the content you are concerned with. May be need to make better trailers i suppose. So that People are aware, along with total bloodshed there would be some girl dancing in shorts before some men.
Actors have pretty much no hesitation to kill, and plunder in movies for money and recognition. Then an item dance is not going to ruining their moral compass don't worry, world is stranger than that.

I just watched the movie in Telugu and I could understand why North critics will not like it ... see the whole movie is about Pushpa... his personal and professional life... the movie is not about Fahaad and his fight against Pushpa..( which will be shown in 2nd half).. I mean , props to Sunil... who is considered a comedy actor in Telugu cinema, plays villain in this .and he was menacing too... I found the music to be good too.. the only thing which Sukumar could have invested in is setting up Fahaad's character.
You have to watch this movie in telugu with Telugu audience ..because that's what the target audience was.. Allu Arjun's accent, Sunil as villain.. and some amazing movie dialogs which generally Telugu audience would get it..
I won't say the movie is bad as it is being projected out by many...
Here in the US, the tickets are so exorbitantly priced where I live. I was very surprised about that strategy - I know they wanted to cash in on Allu Arjun's craze, but they priced themselves at twice the price of Spiderman in 3D IMAX!!! Gross, gross miscalculation.
Personally, I wanted to go to either this or Spider-Man, and realized that I am not all that excited about this movie. All along I had known inside it would be a dud without realizing it, and thanks TRP for confirming it. I'll save me a bunch of money and shall wait for the OTT.
How much? $14? Or more?
@@HemanthKumarJadhav 20$ for this shit film, wasted money to me
@chaitanya gargya In general, tickets are not very expensive. Around the price of a regular lunch in most places. Normally, tickets are flexibly priced - opening weekend is highest, and then depending on how the response is, it will fall faster or slower. If you're willing to wait, hit movies stay on in smaller theaters and you can even grab tickets for a couple dollars!
Indian movies are normally priced higher though, especially as there are fewer screens and they don't run past a week or two.

So this is me first time not agreeing with Jammy. I think there were a lot of nuances related to cultural aspects of South India. You can't relate to those aspects without being an integral part of that culture.
Everyone hit it out of the park wrt acting. Although there was an unnecessary love interest should see how that pans out in the second part.
Everybody felt the world building part was kinda jarring, but it was really well executed.
From a man who is seen as a no fear badass to the traumatic childhood, I think the character deserved to be fleshed out in the way it was.
The cons for me were
1. Unnecessary songs
2. The socially problematic part
3. The late introduction of an imp character
Its wasn't late introduction. They are setting it up for part 2

You can clearly see the logical inconsistencies in the film when the actress only remembers the actor in the time of desperation and tries to prove her love for him. It is highly unbelievable how all the enemies of Pushpa don't realise Pushpa's mother is his weakness in case they want to have their revenge. It is almost hilarious how Pushpa's stepbrother barges in everytime something good is happening to him. I can go on. But you see my point. This is a mass cinema. It won't cut it for you, brother.

Man when you're gonna watch a south-indian "MASS" kind of movie, item songs are a must ! Most of the audience are there to enjoy not to understand the lyrics or poke into anything like you do when it comes to portray women on screen 🙄
KGF Was a hit because there is no sub plot about the romantic interest, only the story.
It had some and it was cringe. However I am glad they forgot that girl immediately throughout the film.
No. KGF had an unnecessary romantic subplot as well, which detracted from the core of the plot but thankfully they didn't focus on it when the film got serious in the second half. Tammanah/Mouni Roy had an item number in the film too which I believe they had to incorporate, in order to market the film in Telugu and Hindi.
Love story part was cringe asf. Thank God it was at beginning 20 mins of movie and not later
Not every south film can be a masterpiece.
True man

This is a Masterpiece.
Bro I taught you gave this movie review in a wrong way. The title itself says "Pushpa the rise". Thats why they took the entire first part of the film to show how pushpa raised from normal coolie to leader of all smugglers in ap
He is taking about the film but not the plot and continuation of story in part 2
@@abhijith.r7520 Bro I'm also not talking about the plot 🤦 The film is directed by its name "pushpa the rise" How pushpa raised from a coolie to leader of smuggling
Watched the movie in Hindi on prime. Loved loved it!! You need to rethink how you review pictures. There wasnt a single boring moment!!
@4:45 ..... Jammy, It reached its full potential Legendary status. I felt this review like searching for things to criticize but never talked about unique characterization, and how natural the rise is shown and what a different kind of gangster movie this is.
