I've been messing around trying to download 23H2 for a few weeks, trying different methods that are a lot more complicated than this but didn't work. I will try this option 2... if it works, which it appears to do, I want to thank you in advance! 🤗
I want to know what are the differences between 21H2 and 23H2 ? I am still use 21H2 on 7rd intel CPU. In my opinion, if rhere are no problems in this computer at this time, why we should update version ? I wonder if I update to new version, the problems will arise.
Just upgraded from Win 11 22H2 to 23H2. My X1Carbon 3rd Gen came originally with Win7 then upgraded to Win 8.1 then Win 10 then 11 22H2... Your directions were flawless! Keep up the great job...🙂
Thank you, your video was easier to understand than others I saw. It worked perfectly for me, the best part is that you showed how to check what English version I had, so it was a smooth process, thanks again.
Thank you for posting this straightforward guide. I am running unsupported hardware. I was able to use the registry fix to upgrade from Win10 to Win11 but I was stuck at 21H2. I was expecting to have to use one of your options but just downloading the ISO and running setup on it's own worked for me. No other intervention was required. Hope this helps anyone else that is in the same situation.
I am running an i5 6500 on a Dell Optiplex 7040 MT (bare bones) build, unsupported of course. Did this last spring and installed Windows 10 22H2 . Upgraded to Windows 11 22H2 after a couple of weeks using the RUFUS bypass. And today, followed your ISO File option, yet no unsupported window popped up and it just started downloading 23H2. Also, I read somewhere that KB5031455 is now the fully upgraded enablement package update, which I apparently already had. Anyhow, not complaining for sure, but I wonder why the upgrade worked so easy. It the RUFUS bypass permanent? Very informative videos. Be blessed.

I used option 2 The first time an error occurred and Windows was rolled back to the previous version. Then I disconnected the external drive connected to USB and disconnected the Bluetooth dongle. I started the update again and after 20 minutes Windows successfully updated to version 23H2. Thank you very much for the tutorial, good job. 😀👍
Vielen Dank für diese detaillierte Beschreibung für den upgrade auf 23H2. So kann ich den Kauf für ein neues Notebook hinauszögern! Mal schauen nächstes Jahr im Juni wenn Win12 im anmarsch sein wird.🤓
When downloading the ISO from the Microsoft website choose the language you're currently using otherwise you won't get the option to retain your apps and files upon installation (upgrading). I just found that out. On my laptop it said the en-US language was the base language but the used language is NL, then when using the downloaded en-US ISO I didn't get the option to save apps and files. Only when I reran the procedure using the US International ISO everything went as shown in this video.
Follow up to my previous post - (next one down) - Windows ver. 23H2 now installed! WORKS PERFECT! Even on a machine with only 3GB RAM and a 1.3 GHz AMD Processor!!!! Thanks Again!
i followed the tutorial but the update thing is not shown in windows update. Also, when running the setup exe on the modified iso, it does not do anything but quickly open and close a cmd window
I'm seeing the same thing. Cmd window opens and closes very quickly. One time it was a little slower and it seemed to say something about unsupported hardware. HELP!?!?
I recently bought a refurbished pc with Win 11 21H2 and wondered why it was not updating, turns out it has an unsupported cpu, however following your instructions I now have an up to date Win11 23H2 pc. Many thanks.
This doesn't seem to work anymore. After deleting content of the dll file and running setup, it says that Setup cannot check if my computer can run Windows 11 and to restart the setup. -Edit : “Sorry, We’re Having Trouble Determining If Your PC can Run Windows 11” Here's what I did to actually fix this: 1- Control Panel / Troubleshooting / Windows Update 2- DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth 3- sfc /scannow 4- Reboot After that the update worked like a charm.
I can't update from 21H2 to 23H2 no matter what I've tried several tutorials, but it always gives a blue screen when it starts preparing Windows to boot for the first time. I found out that this happens because the computer I'm trying to install 23H2 on has a mechanical hard drive, and one of the requirements for 23H2 is specifically an SSD, not a mechanical hard drive I don't see anyone talking about this, so could you tell me if this is true? The 21H2 installs normally without any issues, and from what I've seen, it seems that the 22H2 does too Only the 23H2 has this requirement
Great video thank you. I have used Rufus 4.4 to upgrade windows 11 23H2 from the iso of the windows 11 MS site. . On rufus 4.4 they will do the delete files of appraiserres.dll for you. or can do your method of doing deleted them manually.
I have a fully supported system on 22H2 but wasn't seeing the 23H2 upgrade. I didn't have KB5031455 but I did have KB5032190. After installing the Enablement Update and restarting it successfully showed 23H2 in System > About and winver. Thank you! 😊
Same here - no 1455 update but had 2190. All 23H2 new features seemed to be working, although version still shown as 22H2, so installed 7397 enablement (sic) package and now showing 23H2 in System > About. PC (E-350) isn't used much, so must have missed 1455 before it was superseded by 2190. Excellent video and instructions.
The upgrade worked like a dream- in my case from w11 21h2 to 23h2. However despite giving it instructions to the contrary, files that were stored on my internal hard drive were deleted during the upgrade.
Hi there, Thanx for the video I have used this method in other upgrades but I just tried to upgrade a PC from 23h2 to 24h2 with this method but it fails saying no TPM 2 and CPU not supported. I suspect that Micro$loth have changed things to prevent this method. of upgrading. Hoping you may be able to find a work round.
I have installed a lot of stuff and downloaded a lot of data, its worth 1TB but I am having severe issues on Win 11 and can't upgrade to 23H2 either, was thinking of going back to Windows 10 until I saw this, will it retain my data? Talking about method #2
When the final version of 11 comes out - and my windows 10 is unsupported, I'll be coming back here to find out how to do the upgrade to the (final) win11 version. You would think that they want more people using win11, (more market share) - and should simply open it up to a larger group of users. Let windows 12 be the snobby one, instead.
As of 2/25/2024, your procedure doesn't work anymore. First, I'm running Windows 11 Pro 21H2 which I installed on unsupported hardware on 3/11/2022, and it's fully updated. I followed your steps to the letter; 1. Download the Windows 11 23H2 ISO (22H2 is no longer available to download). 2. I mount the ISO by double-clicking it. 3. I opened the 'sources' directory. 4. I double-clicked the 'appraiserres.dll' file, opened it in Wordpad, selected all the text, deleted it, saved and closed the file. 5. Next, I double-clicked setup.exe and it launched. 6. Next, I clicked the "Change how Setup downloads updates" link, clicked the "Not right now" radio button, and then click the 'Next' button. 7. At this point "Checking your PC" and "Getting things ready" appear briefly, and then "Applicable notices and license term" appears, and I click the 'Accept' button. 8. Next, the "Making sure you're ready" screen appears, and shortly after that, the "Windows 11 Setup" text appears, and directly below that a line of text appears that reads, "We can't tell if your PC is ready to continue installing Windows 11. Try restarting Setup." The ONLY option on this screen is a "Close" button. I've gone through this now about 15 times, and every time it ends exactly the same way. Obviously, something has changed in the Win11 setup.exe code that prevents installation. I assume Microsoft is catching on to the various hacks people are using to install Win11 on unsupported hardware, which isn't too surprising. Any ideas about this one?
You forgot the step where you need to copy all files from the mounted ISO to your Desktop (or other location). Otherwise you cannot save the changes to appraiserres.dll as a mountes ISO is read-only.
Well done although I had to rely on a support forum that said kb5031455 is optional and if it doesn't work then go to a specific place on the settings/update/[I think it was advanced] and delete that kb from the to-do list. That was between the first big download/install and the one that disables the hardware check. Finally, after many hours (several working days worth) of search and try and many "install - oh wait didn't work, reboot to remove" efforts which takes almost 2 hours at times and 3 reboots - I am up to 23H2. I have a socket 2011 with 64 GB of RAM so I have no pressing need to get a new system. I do SW development and that amount of RAM is plenty, but Microsoft's decision a couple of years ago was questionable (they should have announced it would happen 3-4 years in advance). I tried a TPM or two I got from Amazon but none worked with my MSI motherboard - if it had I wouldn't have had to read your posting, but I'm glad you did post it.😀
This doesn't work for my computer (21H2),at first it seems to be able to upgrade but at the last computer restart it undos changes and reverts back to 21H2,with error code 0x8007000D-0x2000C.
I haven't upgraded from Win 10 but thinking about it. I would be upgrading on my HP workstation which has all the needed hardware except CPU. On Microsoft page there is a workaround for installing Win 11 by adding a registry key, will that work for an upgrade that you are demonstrating here?
Brilliant . Worked to update my unsupported dell latitude E7270 laptop on Windows 11 22H2 to 23H2. No problems. Hope a similar workaround can be used for 24H2 later in the year ?
I am getting this error while downloading ISO Error We are unable to complete your request at this time. Some users, entities and locations are banned from using this service. For this reason, leveraging anonymous or location hiding technologies
i have windows 11 come with laptop its register windows and i have win 11 23 h2 upate available once its downlaod and install 100% later i check it show up again and its not installed and give me the error 0x800f081f
Hiliarious that it's only the contents of the dll and not even the dll itself.. Do you know if creating a USB image and then removing the contents of the dll also works for a clean installation?
I normally do use Rufus to install it, but I tried to install 23H1 imaged by Rufus on another piece of hardware and it wouldn't bypass the hw check, so that's why I wondered. I'm still okay installing 22H2 to get it on and running the 23H2 installer with blank apiraiserres.dll if that's what it takes. At the end of the day, I just don't have the time to wipe and reinstall, but I couldn't resolve updates that refused to install no matter what DISM passes and SFC correcting any faults. Maddening. Anyhow, thanks a ton. This will get me to a point I have time to do it "properly" at a later time. :)
Hi! I hve a question: There is missing the KB 5031455 in update history, but the latest ver. is (KB5032190) and I have this changes in taskbar settings. It will work with this version of update? Thanks
Not much that can go wrong in trying. In the worst case, installing the enablement update will push it to start installing KB5031455. Think I've seen this once when playing around while making this video.
Thanks for the current information, right now I am on Windows 11 Home version 21H2 with Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.22001.1000.0 on unsupported hardware, for some reason I am not getting updates, recently I have noticed, can I use this method to safely update to 23H2 ...?
Awesome mate!! Your process was a lot straight forward than most I have seen since windows 11 was released. I am now a subscriber. Cheers

Worked great. Just did it . Now for your "simple" method of upgrading to Windows 12 🙂
We'll see when that comes :)

Great to see and thanks for the update.

Not much that can go wrong in trying. In the worst case, installing the enablement update will push it to start installing KB5031455. Think I've seen this once when playing around while making this video.
Does this add all the bloatware
Thanks for the current information, right now I am on Windows 11 Home version 21H2 with Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.22001.1000.0 on unsupported hardware, for some reason I am not getting updates, recently I have noticed, can I use this method to safely update to 23H2 ...?
Absolutely correct, yes
