    • @varencilator
      @varencilator 4 місяці тому

      @@johnsewell6593 part of falling to the floor is safe/better technique when pinning someone. you can end up dipping below the table while applying downward pressure when going for a pin because you make your body follow your arm. that means there is precedent for allowing dipping below the table. the reverse is dipping below the table while going for a stop/preventing a pin, the king's move. ultimately, there are well-established rules in armwrestling, and a proper king's move is within those rules despite appearing stupid or like it's cheating to some.
      i think the allowing such techniques makes arm wrestling more technique driven, dynamic, and more engaging.

    Cleve Dean dominated the arm wrestling scene back in the 70‘s and 80‘s with more than 60 world championship titles. He could wrestle with either hand and was known as the „Arm Breaker“.They even had special „rules“ about how he could compete due to his size. First time I saw him was on a sports show called „ABC’s Wide World of Sports“. Cleve was from Pavo GA. He never worked out at least at a gym. Growing up on a hog farm,his strength came naturally. And standing at almost 6’7“ and weighing between 300 and 450lbs he towered over most of his competitors at the time. He died in 2011 at age 58 of a heart attack. RIP Cleve

The only match that he ever lost that annoyed me was to Michael Todd. Hanging under the table like that is just cheating as far as I am concerned. You can see Richards face at the end of each match, just before he gives up because he knows he is better and stronger but also that he wont win due to that cowardly technique. Its no longer Arm Wrestling when your forcing the other to try and pull your entire body weight up off the floor.

    This man is a legend. I would concider standup arm wrestling to be a more technical sport, but less of a contest of strength; at a certain point you can overpower your opponent, but a weaker opponent can still win more readily. Generally, when arm wrestling family or friends, we go from a prone/kneeling or sitting position, so yes you can manipulate your leverage and shift your shoulders for different pushes/pulls, but the goal is to see who is stronger, not who has better technique (yeah, technique still helps, but you can't just hang off the other guys arm with your whole body weight)
    When you incorporate the whole body into the match, injury chances go up, and positioning/knowledge about technique and methods make more of a difference. In my experience, hooking has always been good, and more hand control helps, and the press wins close matches, but the whole "im staring back at you from under the table" thing seems kind of stupid for a contest of strength... In the sport, its another technique at your disposal. looking at you Michael Todd 😅

    When Devon started becoming a youtube personality I gained an appreciation for Arm Wrestling. I still don't really care for the gamesmanship aspect of it but it's an interesting sport otherwise.

    Going down low below the arm pulling is cheating. Referee should disqualify that person.

    I believe Richards top-weight was about 325. That's a far cry from Levin at 400.
    Richard Lupkes was a farmer from Southwest Minnesota. A really great guy.
    There's a wrestler from Ukraine named Oleg about 190 lb Lefty and he was probably the number one in the world lb per lb.
    He and Andre pushkar were in a car accident in Andre died. Very sad

    King's move needs to go away. It's so boring to see someone just hide under the table and hang off the other person's arm.

    When you use a handle it’s no longer arm wrestling. Put your arm behind your back and do it that’s the correct way. I mean one guy was below the table

    What technique is this!?!?!? Pure bs.
    That old guy just go the right way. Great player. He dont dive under the table.

    Does anyone know if there are any clips of him against Cleve Dean? (Similar era I guess). Maybe the only guy of that time who could match Lupkes for sheer side pressure power?...

    • @seruresto1386
      @seruresto1386 Рік тому +2

      Cleve's hand is what made in so good, not intense side pressure like Richard. Lupkes might be tops ever in pure side pressure. Cleve's giant hand and long ass arms simply rolled over most guys in his prime.

    not often you see bodybuilder built guys be strong in armwrestling. It happens time to time where i find a guy who has never armwrestled, but with insane strength.
    I dont know how this lottery of genetics is played in life. But some people have to work harder than others to reach the same level

    I can't believe they let Todd do that. His arm was sticking straight up in the air. At that point his elbow isn't even really on the pad any more. It's more like his tricep . Which basically will happen every time a guys shoulder goes lower than his elbow. It looks ridiculous and is a horse shit way to arm wrestle.
