    Another fun yet simple (not necessarily easy!) hand foot combination for you to take and adapt into your playing for songwriting and soloing. This particular example breaks down the drum fill at the end of the song Painkiller.

    Awesome lesson!! you broke it down so that it was easy to understand. Are you going to post more vids on various drum fills, sticking techniques, and practice rudiments that you use.

    Thanks for the feedback! We're actually in the middle of shooting an entire video series on hand technique, as we speak! ;) Planning to have it finished by the first week of July.

    Lots of talking, but can appreciate some people need more explaing than others. Definitely pays off at the end of the video. Long ago my band had a storage shed across from where Scott Travis rehearsed on his own. He would just crush the same pattern for hours.

    Thanks so much for the feedback! Yes, there are MANY new videos planned! I've been out of the playing game for a little bit (news about that coming soon as well), but will be back to producing new materials before too long... Thanks again for watching!

    Ok! I think I understand why you EQ the way you do now: Sometimes you want the bass to fit in with the toms/snare like in a drum fill, so you EQ the way you did so it wouldn't be dominating over everything (therefore it acts as a tom).
    But in other occasions (such as in a drumbeat for a song), you EQ the bass drum so it'll bite/cut more - so that itll drive the song.
    Thanks! I like your reasoning. Forget what I said about not enough bit. The EQ you have is appropriate for what you're doing :D

  • @KevanFnRoy
    @KevanFnRoy  10 років тому

    You have a good ear, Sir! ;) The kicks are indeed eq'd slightly different than in the covers, specifically because they're not competing with any music, so there is a little less "bite" or cut and more of a rounder tone, matching the toms a little more. Perhaps I should put some of that bite back in for these type of videos, is what you are saying...? Let the thumbs up likes speak for votes! ;)

    Just a little constructive criticism: just curious - do you dampen your bass drums more in this video than your covers? I just think it kinda sounds like it's missing that "bite" that a bass drum gives you.
    but then again, what do i know? haha
    good video!

    Really great video, clear tips and solid as a lesson.
    Just one quick tip to make the videos more appealing: Show us (in full tempo) what you are about to teach, before the lesson itself, it's a little bit more 'intriguing' and stimulates those with fewer experience in drumming to pay much more atention to figure out what's happening before you say it!

    What type of brushes are you using? Really interesting that you're using brushes for heavy metal. Rather cool stuff.
