    Yes, she's one of the really big stars...One of the handful of really iconic names in movie history...brings up a whole era. She was my favorite as a kid.

      A little late on this comment but I just found it. She was my step grandmother in those years when I lived in California. My mother married her stepson Harry James jr. His mother is 99 and she's in the hospital tonight she was the first wife of Harry James. Wow what a lucky man he was to have two such beautiful women in his life that would marry him and give him beautiful children she was lovely to me. She was lovely above and beyond all those people that think they're all that and a bag of chips.

    Greatest song and dance gal the movies ever produced. Box Office Magazine credits her as the #1 Female Movie Stars in Cinema history. No other female has ever come close to her box office record except DORIS DAY, who was on the list for 9 years...usually at #1. There is room for all the beautiful gals from yesterday. Just sit back and enjoy. Love you Betty.

    Every time I watch this video, Betty just gets better and better. What a treat it would have been to see her doing the original choreography. It's interesting how they use elements of the Mame dance break to give Betty and the boys a chance to cut loose. I love Betty Grable!!

      Idem i noticed that the music and the coreography is similar or identical to the Mame dance in the 1974 movie

    Betty Grable was a true star in the 1940s and into the early 1950s. She was listed on the Top 10 Moneymaking Stars Poll every from 1941 to 1951, a total of 10 consecutive years. She was the #1 box office draw in 1943 and 1944, and her movies were some of the world's biggest successes. The changing tastes around 1953 hurt her career. The girl-next-door image slowly faded as sex symbols like Marilyn Monroe, Jane Russell, Elizabeth Taylor, and Jayne Mansfield began to dominate the film world. Betty's last few movies didn't fare as well as many like to believe, and particularly her last two in 1955, barely regained their production costs. Betty continued to have success on TV, in Las Vegas, and on Broadway for the rest of her life, but to be honest, her glory days were gone. She had a solid decade of stardom. The forties belonged to Betty Grable, the fifties to Marilyn Monroe, and the sixties to Elizabeth Taylor.

    Thank you for uploading this. I have enjoyed watching Betty Grable since I was a little girl. I wish they showed her movies more frequently on TCM. I loved Coney Island and Sweet Rosie O'Grady. I enjoy watching all of them. Thanks again.

    I wish I could go back in time and convince her to quit smoking in the 1930s...... Thirty years of a pack-a-day took it's tole on her voice.....

      Her dancing is SOOOO youthful! And yet tobacco eventually sapped her of all that! Sad, sad, sad.

    Except for the increased huskiness of her voice, Betty still had her beauty and talent, especially her dancing and her unique showmanship, not to mention those great legs.
    Am interested what year she performed "Dolly" since her death was in 1973.

      I saw her do "Dolly" on Broadway in 1967. The crowd went wild when she raised her skirt to show those legs.

      Well I'm really late haha but she performed in Hello, Dolly in Chicago, on tour, Broadway, and in Las Vegas. She played in the show from 1965 to 1967, 68.

    She did the role on Broadway - y'all know that, right? Glad to see even this "altered" version of the title song on youtube. You can imagine what she was like in full-fledged RED "Dolly-Harmonia Gardens" attire!

    Jon,stick it. Yes it was sad that she became such a heavy smoker. It did take a toll on her voice. I always said she was an underrated singer and dancer. She did do Hello Dolly in the mid/late 60's. Lucille Ball said she was one of the funniest people she ever knew. On a Dick Cavette show clip I saw not too long ago he asked Lucy who were some of the people she missed that had passed. Betty Grable was the 2nd person she named.

    So many old stars died in their 50s after the era when cigarettes were considered a tonic.

    Looks like her appearance on the Carol Burnette show back in the early 70s or late 60s. Too bad the cigarettes got her and she left us too soon.

    What was great about Betty was she knew exactly what she could do and couldn't do, and never crossed the boundary. Wish the same were true for Streisand, who was a singer but a lousy actress and director.

    • @chrisn7259
      @chrisn7259 7 років тому +2

      Yeah, so lousy she won a Best Actress Oscar and was nominated for a second, and The Prince of Tides was nominated for Best Picture. Maybe she should have just stayed in Brooklyn and not put you through such misery. Oh, and she wasn't a singer, she was (is) THE singer.

    • @wengfong6742
      @wengfong6742 6 років тому +2

      Do lousy, she won an Oscar for her debut, so lousy she is still the only golden globe winner for best director. Is just that Barbra’s voice is simply the greatest voice ever, Ever!

    @monroenorma Judy Garland had 100 times the talent Grable did. You serious? Nothing against Betty Grable, she had her place, but seriously, Garland blows her away.

      Betty never claimed to be a great singer, dancer or actress. I've seen all her movies at 20th century fox from 1940 to 1955. Betty blows Judy away in the looks department. Attractive, nice figure and the Legs. No problems on the sets like Judy was known for. Easy going and in technicolor, gorgeous. Top box office draw and favorite Pin Up. I'd take Betty over Judy any day.
