My favorite ballerina is Nela for many many reasons but i have to give this one to Zvetlana 🙈 She’s so ethereal and light, this variation suits her like a glove! Obviously Nela’s technique and musicality is perfect imo but Kitri’s variations suit her better! ♥️
Osipova 100% I also love Nuñez in this role and Zakharova has perfect technique as always but aside from the fact that both Osipova and Nuñez are the some of, if not the best modern Kitris overall, their musicality is also outstanding. But there is something about the way Osipova moves, her charm and energy, that makes her perfect in this role. Her body is also quite shapely in a non creepy way but rather in a way that make her movements very aesthetically pleasing in the sense that it accentuates her fluidity. I know that back in the slightly older days some people would critiscise her technique and port de bras, but I really like her arm movements. In every role every cell of her body in dancing, every cell accentuates her fluidity and airy lightness.
I think Zakharova wins this one. She has the distant regal quality of the princesse lointaine of Don Quixote's dreams. And on her Italian fouettés it’s like she's making the music, not dancing to it. Osipova attacks the steps a bit too much for me (as the character, i mean. her technique is brilliant). Nunez is great as well, really lovely. Zakharova is just the best at being regal and untouchable (which is why IMO Nunez and Osipova have better Kitris! It all evens out).
Great observations. Zakarova is almost always exquisite, but I find that she’s often too detached from the character, and in turn, the audience. But for this role, she seems perfect. Ditto everything you said about Nunez and Osipova. 🙂
The important matter is that the same solo is performed differently. Be honest, at this high level of women's ballet, to say who is the first, who wins, is impossible. However, I can say that Natalia has no weak elements, in particular each second of her performance is in a flowing ballet. There is no pauses or or doubts in dance, the tempo of the dance is fantastic. She is not in a hurry, although the dance and flying jumps are energetic. Execution of the dance is perfect from the start to the end. Two other ballerinas are also great, the three are lovely.
Wow. This is a torture to choose a favorite as they each have something great. Zhakarova is like threading a needle of porcelain with her legs and gorgeous delicate and arched feet. She does that with a completely unique look. I've never seen that level of delicacy and precision with those steps. Planting her feet with arching beauty like a horse planting his magnificent hooves doing dressage. Her fast flip from a la second to arabesque is exquisite. Her arabesque is spectacularly high. It is so strikingly and uniquely beautiful. She lacks a little speed and "attack". Nunez in these steps is not my favorite of the varied beautiful and great dancing I have seen from her. Her body seems short here, not fluid and extended. Truncated. I kept wondering if this was from her earlier career and she has just gotten better and better and better. Her elevation was so beautiful. Her arms didn't have the full, Russian-like extension I like. Her port de bras was more British. Osipova has the most "attack" and dynamism to her dancing. She is the closest to Plisetskaya. Her elevation is incredible. She lingers in the air. She has that element of excitement to her dancing. The same quality of exciting "attack" that the young Nureyev had. (Versus the more languid, legatto style of Peter Martins or Ivan Nagy.) Osipova's line from a la second to arabesque isnt as sublime as Zhakarova's, and her arabesque is not as high or extended so it gives a flipper foot view of her arabesque non-standing foot. But overall Osipova just has an outstanding, exciting, dynamism to her dancing so I would have to say she is my favorite. There is a utube video of Osipova in Giselle Act II. OMG she is sublime. So Osipova does it all. Ultra dynamic and sharp and earthbound and ultra ethereal and languid too. Osipova's hops on pointe are incredible - the way she travels! Like a fast-flying seagul skimming over a lake! like she's walking on water! and she comes down so solidly and not protectively softer on the hopping on pointe foot! I was about to say that sometimes a more languid dancer with endlessly high extension and flexibility might not have the same elevation as someone more "tight" and less flexible but you can't really say that too much these days because ballet dancers are so versatile and men and women have such incredible technique. But there still is some physiological or physical basis for abilities in certain steps. Example: Nijinsky's incredible elevation due to the incredibleness of his thick muscular thighs. I read incredible descriptions about this. It is incredible that the male dancers are as good as the females. Men have gorgeous lines, extensions and feet these days. I watched ballet prior and through the 1950's and '60's etc., and men have come gigantuanly far in technique (the women have come far too though). It would be nice if Osipova could be a little more languid with the a la second to arabesque step - Zhakarova has the porcelain balletic aesthetics over Osipova here. This is a wonderful video and great ballerinas, of course! Thank you so much!
Just curious. . . . . which high kicks were you referring to? Zakarova did one section differently from Nunez and Osipova . . . . she did Italian fouettés. That’s where I noticed her beautiful high extensions, but the other two didn’t do those. Thanks! 🙂
@@Nobleman26 Yes, as I said, those are Italian fouettés and Nunez and Osipova did something different, so you really can’t say they “could not do” the high kicks because they literally did not attempt them. They are both capable of doing Italian fouettés with very high kicks.
@@levondelite4072 Your comment is gold, absolutely on point. Plus, I'd like to add that judging a dancer for her "high kicks" is not really the best yardstick

You understand what I mean) and doesn't fall from points. The atmosphere she creates is respectful of ballet, not a circus. And, of course, she maintains the delicate character until the end ❤ . Thank U, Nela, for your art. You understood perfectly what ballet means
They are all three beautiful and each one has special qualities which makes them unique but if this was a competition and it shouldn't be based on the differences in the choreography, but on shear accomplishment and giving detailed exactness to control of movement, with the ability to make the onlooker feel comfortable and totally at ease...then again and aways Nela is the Bela the ball! She is simply the best of the best! And the rest...well...the rest, are the rest!

In this kind of role Zakharova is the best, and in any case even in Kitri not very suitable for Svetlan those who see the video They are at least 10 times more numerous than the others and there must be a reason
Núñez and Osipova, each one in her style are perfect. I know that there are lots of Zakharova'fans here, but I don't like her in comparison. Too cold, inexpresive and extremely skinny. She Has a great tecnique, of course.
I agree, and in addition, the film of Z. seems to elongate her body. The other film clips look accurate. I prefer Nunez of these three, but also love Tereshkina as Dulcinea.

No hate to nela, but I don’t like the royal ballet’s music. It feels too detached. In terms of the dancing, I like svetlana the most. It’s just my opinion but I feel like she embodies the character the best.
it's because Svetlana is not that sophisticated. Russians are lazy, they simplify most of the time: Soviets were adjusting ballet to farmers' and political leaders' joy. As most of the dancers are there by connections, especially in Bolshoi, their skills are very mediocre
Talented schoolgirls ... but the Etoiles are something else! This remains ... a high-level academy product that does not add artistic value to the performance
Zakharova is the best at expressing it by far. Osipova is always way too erratic, which makes her a fantastic Kitri but not exactly the best option for whimsical or regal roles like this one (I dislike her Giselle for this reason.) Marianela is somewhere in-between.
Nunez and Osipova were very musical with Osipova perhaps the best if I had to choose. Zakharova was way too elegant for this role and her dancing often slow and always it seems in a much slower tempo and lacking attack... a discernable weakness.
Nunez did it for me. I don't like Zakharova in this role and one wonders if Osipova does a deal with the conductor to get her off stage as fast as possible.
Zakharova simplifies, as usual, replacing more difficult with easier. Osipova shows too much facial expression, as if she is a girl playing with a ball, cheap. Nunez is the only queen here, I don't understand why the other two are compared to Nunez at all
Zakharova really shines in these elegant and ethereal roles

Agree on this part. She is better on slower roles where her technique can express. But definitely lack of energy for Kitris.
I agree, and she is the only one to do the Italian fouettés.
