Carlos Acosta, Principal Guest Artist of The Royal Ballet, created his first work for the Company in 2013. He chose one of his favourite ballets - Marius Petipa's Don Quixote, a joyful adaptation of Miguel de Cervantes's classic novel. Acosta's production has proved itself a firm audience favourite, acclaimed for its breathtakingly virtuoso dancing, eye-popping designs by Tim Hatley and the sheer energy and exuberance of the production as a whole.
The adventures of the bumbling knight Don Quixote and his ever-faithful squire Sancho Panza have been the inspiration for countless ballets, of which Petipa's is one of the best loved. Acosta has danced the virtuoso role of Basilio many times, and brings that experience to his unique and vibrant vision of the story. Ludwig Minkus's score, created for Petipa, is full of Spanish flair and atmosphere. Don Quixote, with its famously bravura Act III pas de deux and infectious ebullience, is wonderfully entertaining. - Розваги

who created this choreography is a genius
Not to mention the costumes, breathtaking!
Abhi Kris the choreos always tend to be the same even from company to company. They just make certain variations. Quixote choreo is practically the same in every play in every company.
Thank you! It took me a lot of energy and determination to choreograph this.
Stay safe during the Coronavirus!
11swallowedinthesea lmao sure jan
Rue Reported.
Is anyone gonna talk about the purple girls they were awesome too 💜
And they were synchronized. I bet it was hard
My friend and I are doing that one for recital. So yeah.
And one of them is now a principal dancer
yes!! i love yuhui choe
@@danio.9185 yes ! And she also made the video A ballerina's day ... She is amazing
She looked like she was really enjoying herself and that was lovely! Oh and did I mention her MUSCLES!

I love the Marinela Nunes
YES! EXACLY! EXACTLY!

this is why Marianela is my favorite ballet dancer, you can feel her happiness and how passionate she is even through the screen not to mention she has incredible technique!
Not to mention she always comprehends the roles shes playing and acts it amazingly.
Exactly
Dites moi on ne peut pas le voir en entier ce donquijote sur youtubes merci
@@moonlightchill4538😊😊😊😊
They both looked so happy performing it made me smile :)
Yay a black male dancer. His jumps were so high and his legs were so toned. She is so flexible and those peakae turns yes. They are all so talented. Now I know why my dance teacher is always telling me to work on ankle strength
Peak.. peakae what?
Sorry. They're called pique turns. And those weren't pique turns. They were just single pirouettes.
This was a joke, please, don't come witch-hunt me for pointing out their spelling.
Kendriel Sindoni you just don't see black males often in ballet. Thats all.
Actually I think he even choreographed this version for the royal ballet😊 amazing
I N S E C U R EE he’s not black tho
@@miguelcalero5072 cuban is not a race tho its a nationality..
That dude is honestly laughing at gravity
They're born to dance this ballet! They are incredible.
***** Yes! That's what I meant. ;)
For me in this performance ....only They :)
Born? No. They practiced hours upon hours, year after year to get to this level.
@@newcenturypianists3195 As if I did not know that. :)
@@newcenturypianists3195 you know that’s a compliment... right? they said they were “born” to dance, and that means they’re very talented. chill
I love the fact that all the villagers are wearing different costumes. It looks so much better and more natural than when the corps is all decked out in the same peasant outfit! This is probably one of my favorite ballet scenes of all time, it’s just so natural
1:51 her face on the last turn 😂
I bet she was thinking “Aw hell yea 😝 I’m nailing this one”
What stands out about this performance for me is how obvious it is that the dancers are having fun. You can see it in their smiles and the energy that they are bringing to the stage. There is something organic and genuine about this. Like a dance rather than a performance if that makes any sense.
P.S. can anyone tell me the music that is playing for Marianela's first solo?
If you type Kirti variation it'll pop up
Its the kitri variation act 1
What I love most about mairanelas is the fact that she has the ability to perform so many different characters and roles. Here when she is kitri, she is sassy and fierce, but she can be delicate and fragile as the white swan. Such a lovely dancer
the ladies in the purple dresses really reminded me of ballerina dolls i used to play with as a little girl
Eli Cuevas oh, did you have the purple ballet bar or with the tan skin and brown hair in a bun? She looked almost exactly like that!
@@samuelbrown5616 oh my gosh I had that one ahahaha
They reminded me of the 3 sisters in the 12 dancing princesses Barbie movie haha.. adorable
They reminded me of the twins from Angelina ballerina
When Marianela smiles it's like the whole world smiles ❤️
this is the most beautiful thing i have ever seen in my life
You would not say that if you ever had seen Plisetskayia in this role before.
ua-cam.com/video/9wbgEHxGVOw/v-deo.html
marianela is the first professional ballet dancer who i've seen that doesn't look miserable....she excudes the spirit of ballet!! not to mention she's SO talented!!
Please keep in mind that some ballets require for the dancer to act miserable.
@@Sunflower_vally imagine an exuberant and lively Giselle at her grave…
what do you mean by miserable? you know, there are a lot of dramatic/melancholic/tragic ballets where the dancers are supposed to look sad...
....are you high?
The costumes is this ballet are absolutely gorgeous!
they're so wonderful together, it makes me smile. they are both such inspiring people and they are made to dance together. my favorite part is at 0:06. their smiles are so wonderful.
They are so perfect.. And Marianela will always be my queen!! The Royal Ballet have the best dancers and productions in the world,, So much talent to see and enjoy!!!
Andrea Rodrigues I agree !
Russians are the best!!!!!
Anna Yudakhina well I we all have different opinions
If she is Russian than I'm Japanese empirer, lol
Carlos Acosta is such a treasure and Marianela Nunez is flawless, they are made to dance together.
Marianela is perfect, she's a dancing goddes
Royal Opera House good morning, I was wondering if there's the possibility to meet the dancers after a performance
+edwicec07 Just go around to the. stage door, at the Roh the dancers are really lovely they will talk to you and even have a pic, taken with you if you ask, after the performance
The height of Carlos' jumps never fails to fascinate me ... Both dancers are terrific in this scene! Marianela's facial expressions paired with her undeniable energy is amazing!! She truly looks like she's enjoying herself, giving the dance a whole new level of excitement!
Amazing!!! I'm watching this after I met her today in my ballet school. She is soooo sweet, spontaneous and very kind . She did a class and also we took some pics, i love her.
Incredible dancer and person!!!!
How are you doing at ballet school now? Have you graduated? Are you a dancer?
LUCKY OH MY GOD I WISH
LUCKY! Hopefully I will get to meet her soon at my ballet school :C
Marianela as Black Swan and Kitri is just everything I’m gonna say she portrays the roles so good and it suits her I love her!!
Absolutely! I love her versatility. Probably the most versatile dancer.
Absolutely incredible. So lovely to see such a suited couple who can bring both technique and artistry to the stage.
Excelente los dos bailan con alegría Alejandro
Absolutely fantastic to watch.
the gentleman running with the fish at 3:06 - was comedic gold!
Quarantine brought me here.
This is the good side of internet, me watching a beautiful spainish opera on my bed at 3 am.
Thanks UA-cam.
Marianela and Carlos were born to dance! Wow!
Carlos Acosta IS SO amazing in this! it's such a shame he's retired now! he's so great
I'm sure you are so happy now with Carlos at 50 haha
omg, im in love with this couple Carlos and Marianela are perfect together
My brother is one of the boys is my bro and I got to see the dress rehursals and I saw Carlos!!!! He was amazing!!!!
Carlos Acosta is so dashing playing this role. It just suits him so well!
Marianela just lights up the stage, her love of dance is just so evident in every move. Beatriz and Yuhui are brilliant too!
Marianela Nuñez is so beautiful when she sees her back muscles when she does the first act of Don Quixote.😍
Marianela dances this role like there's no tomorrow.
Watching Marianela dance is just such a pleasure. The smile, the energy, the technique - she was born to do this.
Marianela was born to play Kitri, I’ve never watched a dance performance so many times
1:05 I’ve watched this soOoO many times! That is my dream variation ✨✨✨
sameee
I still can't believe what I've just seen. Unbelievable. All of it. The dancers, the costumes, the scenery. I laughed out loud at 3:19, i wasn´t expecting that XD. Beautiful, what I would give to see it live. Marianela, the pride of Argentina. And that fine man Carlos is something from another world.
the choreography is worth to die for!!!!!!! >
Life can seem pretty darn terrible much of the time----but not when you're watching Marianela dance!
She actually reminds me of why life is worth living despite its sorrows.
she always looks so natural her smile lights up the stage, never over acts. absolutly delightful in every way. Class act throughout her great career at the royal ballet.
I can't believe I met Marianela, she is and incredible dancer and an amazing person too 😱💟💜💚
+Melanie Krieger I met her in Argentina, she is so simple, and so beautiful! Hope you meet her one day! 😘
Awe thank you so much
I met her too I'm from Argentina and the last year she came here to met studens from different ballet academies of Buenos Aires (my english is not perfect, sorry if I wrote something wrong)
Men ballet dancers are amazing. It’s like they stop in mid air. They’re so light on their feet it’s so satisfying
I love how Marianela was so controlled yet so powerful. She also was having fun at the same time, and she just makes you feel the joy as well. I hope one day I can do this variation 😭
It is amazing that these dancers, whether they are principles or not, are so happy in this performance.
Marianela IS so versatile, she's perfect, amazing
She really captures Kitri’s fun loving spirit
Marianela fills the screen with joy everytime she appears! Incredible dancer!
19 PIROUETTES!!! Damn, Ms. Nunez!
That was lovely!!!!😍😍😍😍
Never fails to impress 😍
Marianela Nunez IS Kitri!
parole crociate The one and only 😍
she has the best expression I have ever seen in a ballet
How can someone dislike this? Really, I'm trying to understand.
Maybe they were looking for another scene and disliked in frustration.
Because people seen much better performances.
Who? The same people who are destroying statues, burning books, and cancelling culture. Nothing new. Culture is culture. As Francisco Goya said: “The Sleep of a reason produces Monsters”.
@C R why do people have to bring race into everything. they picked the dancers who were best suited for the roles, they don't pick based on skin colour and race.
@C R bruh, are you ok?? What kind of bullshit are you spewing??? If Carlos Acosta is the best dancer for this, will they choose someone who is not on his/principal level just because they're white??? TF
I can't turn my eyes from her. Keep watching and watching..... She is GREAT!!!!!!!!
They are both so good - you can clearly tell that they love performing. I love Marianela in everything she does, she just brings such joy to each of her roles. And Carlos... well, that man is a dream, enough said :D
How beautiful she is! I had the plesure to see her in The Colòn Theatre this month in Buenos Aires. She was joyful, and her performance as Tatiana in Oneguin was outstanding.
Yuhui Choe's arch omg
But why hasn't Yuhui been promoted to Principle?
I think her pointe shoes are dead
Must make those hops painful ahhh
@@may4883 i dont think her pointe shoes are dead
@@may4883 I think it looks like that cuz she sews the toes with yarn
No idea who the first two were and I don't know shit about dancing, but it was so powerful. Especially the woman her costume, the emotion, everything gave me goosebumps. I've never been so moved by dancing....
Can't stop watching this clip!
So nice to see a ballet where the women can let rip for a change. Feisty and full of sass. No helpless damsel in distress wafting about the stage here!
Did anyone else notice how they used two different days in this video? You can see in 0:22 one of purple girls is Yasmin but during Marianela's solo and thereafter it changes to Beatriz???
The admiration I have for these people is out of this world. Marianela is just perfect. Perfect. This is it.
marianela nunez's dance is very beautiful and cute...
I want to be a like her ballerina in my future.
I like her very much!!!
Omg the male lead dancer…….beautiful perfect form……. That was gorgeous.
Love how Marianela is always feeling the music, the character and the energy. She is amazing and her joy sparks to the audience ❤
wow. that's what stars look like...charisma for days...
he is absolutely breathtaking!
2:40 Me and my friends coming into class like
I love Marianela's performance here so much, I never get tired of seeing her beautiful smile and amazing technique. Such an inspiration!
Браво, какая страсть❤
What a wonderful production!
Marianela Nuñez, una de las mejores bailarinas de la epoca.. y es Argentina.
i love her expression at 1:34 when she blows a kiss to Carlos
Carlos is magnifico!!!!
Nunez does the cleanest, most musical and spectacular version of this variation (and this part of Act 1) in the known universe. Whatever circumstances have deprived us in parts of the US from getting the RB feeds (our area lost them the year they did the Two Pigeons and Nunuez danced Giselle rather than Myrtha), I could scream. Anybody know what happened? I really was getting used to my Nunez fix and to rooting regularly for Choe to be promoted to principal!
Magnifici danzatori!
Смотришь и восхищаешься артистами, костюмами, декорациями! Браво!
whoever composed this was a genius
No me canso de miralo que grandes Carlos y Marianela 💞💞💞💞 💐💐🕊
The arch in her foot is amazing
2:03 omg SHE'S SO CUTE
Marianela Nuñez is such a stunning dancer with such a pretty and genuine smile :)
Oh my goodness, they look so happy!
Карлрс меня впечатлил. Очень легко танцует. Техника великолепна, ну а про пластику и говорить не надо. Буду искать еще его роли, танпц.
Marianela ES LA LEVEDAD ,LA FUERZA Y LA ESQUISITEZ.
I was lucky enough to see these two in DQ when you brought this production to Washington D.C. in 2015 and it was AMAZING!!! I will forever treasure that memory! Please come back soon, we love the Royal Ballet!
Te amo Marianela Núñez! Y es argentina! Me encanta como se expresa al bailar! Traspasa la cuarta pared
Isn't it just so beautiful how they enjoy the stage like they were born for it. They made the stage look like an accessory.
Fantastic upbeat performance. !!!
amazing production, amazing orchestra, amazing set up,amazing actors
Costumi e coreografia stupendi, interpretazione di livello altissimo 😊
I had the privilege of being at Nela's international debut in Montevideo, Uruguay, before even auditioning for the Royal Ballet. The program stated she was fifteen but I learned from the organizers that she was 14 at that time...!!! Her tutu was done and embroidered by her grandma and at one point in the Don Quijote pas de deux, it started to loose some pearls (you could actually hear them falling on the stage) and she went on like a Goddess anyway!!! I will never forget that moment. Some artists are just blessed and are also such humble human beings!!!!!!! Thank you for
gracing us with your ART!!!!!!!!!!

*when you’re trying to kick someone in karate but learn ballet also*
This is my favorite one! I rlly love ballerina dancers who perform with emotions. It's so important. They all are such amazing dancer and who made the choreography is so creative!
Прекрасное исполнение❤
I am very lucky that i bought your DVD am watching it once a week .I cannot compare it with other productions it is the absolute one .The orchestra ,the actors, all the dancers.
, and you Marianela and Carlos you are excellent .thank you very much .xxxxxxxxxxx
Funny and hilarious!!....I love this act!! Carlos Acosta and Marianela Nunez are so perfect together.
What joy these dancers give with their energy and their smiles and their perfection ..The music is glorious but the two principles make looking at this ballet so enjoyable.
absolute perfection, that lady is the most natural performer and makes everthing look a doddle, beautiful smile a joy to watch in any role. They are perfect together and make it look so easy .
Thats pure Faszination
