Man, that enthusiasm is back! Brilliant to see. You've changed... But that change has brought you full circle because now you can learn something new again and we can tag along for the ride.
I have 5 and I only ever use one these days. The cordless one! Would like a second one of those though for sure. I kind of found that now that I a cordless bandaw, belt grinder, and good chop saw I just don't go to the grinder first. So sick of abrasive dust anyway.
Getting started is easier than most think. In my opinion you just have to get the right tools. I remember when I started my shop it was completely bare bones and I didnt even have enough money to buy materials for a table, but I took my only 500 bucks I had and bought the basics and started my rail business building rail on the floor, lol. That was 2016. Piece by piece, job by job, I bought all my stuff 1 tool at a time . 5 years later, took that 500 dollar investment and turned it into 250k a year building rail. Great trade to have...
I'm starting a channel for you...as a former Marine Infantry Platoon Sergeant, I'm starting "Hobby Shop Boot Camp", yup, and my first class is going to begin by asking if you made anything that worked in a seriously amplified manner, lol. Actually, for a home shop, you have some pretty decent tools. It's looking like my shop where I metal fabricate and woodwork. Currently, I am fabricating an all aluminum camper, but designed like none other. Top secret! I have a lot of the Flex-Volt tools and they are great. I have the same Plasma cutter, but went with the Miller 220 AC/DC and learned how to TIG and spool-gun aluminum for the camper build. You won't regret learning those either. I'm working in a two-car garage also and have learned to store and in some cases, work overhead. The large frames which make-up the camper were welded on stands six feet in the air then assembled in the driveway. I'm riveting the 16ga aluminum skin on it now. It has radiant heating, and pivot-outs (not slide-outs), and looks like a stealth fighter bat-camper. You need one. Look me up. You need a sheet metal break, 16 ga, probably at least 36" wide (mine is 50" so I can use it on 4x8' sheets)...to round off your metal fab collection. Buy a pair of Milwaukee sheers you won't regret it. Oh, and it's true, you love carbide blade on your cut-off saw. I'm a sarcastically humor-oriented bastard that loves to work with my hands. Give me 24 hours and you will not be clueless any longer! Carry-on!
For a “dude that is clueless “ you really brought the excitement to this video. So much fun to hear the excitement in your voice, and the fact that you brought the video in at exactly 10 minutes was crazy. Now all I need to do is get a “get dirty” hat, buy some metal, figure out how to feed the damn wire into my welder, move the car out of the garage, did I mention the hat? Anyway, you’ve got fired up and inspired to get out aaaand weld something! Thanks, David!!
David, I am not sure if you still read these old video comments but I saw that you wanted to do a video on Jim Hayens back right before Covid. I still think that video is a good idea. I like metal art work and seeing his art work would be very inspiring. I hope you still can do that interview. I also think that you might do a small series of local arts in your area. You can interview one every month or something like that. Great video as always.
About welding hoods You really get what you pay for. I started in HS shop class with a $50 auto darkening from HF that served me well right up until I tried to earn a paycheck with it which was when it died. I stepped up to a $100 Forney from Ace that isn't much better but I still keep as my backup. The HF to Forney transition was black and white to color TV I'm in love with my Miller Digital Elite hood. It's a pro helmet. Modes for grinding, cutting, welding, and X mode which is for when you're in a tight space and the sensors aren't always going to be able to pick up welding light, they're tripped by different rays. Idk what rays but it's not your standard UVA/UVB. Going from the Forney to the Miller was like going from a regular tube television to HD. Bigger field of view, clearer picture, and I feel like it achieves the required lens darkness without limiting vision. Using a shade 11 is using a shade 11 but, I feel like I can see scribe lines or soap stone much better along with material edges and gaps. It makes welding for 10+hours much easier and less fatiguing on the eyes. Plus, if you're in a large shop, you don't need to carry a hood, grinding mask, cutting goggles, and all that other shit. Only gotta carry one piece of safety gear. Hell, I leave my torch goggles and grinding shield at home. Don't need em. Lastly, the Miller has a touch more room under it for my Miller respirator. A definite must have for all day every day welding grinding cutting e.t.c Anyway, definitely recommend everybody to stay away from hoods found at HF, HD, Lowe's e.t.c Obvs, not everybody can drop $350 on a nice Miller but, your local welding supply will still have something in your budget that's better than the aforementioned junk You have a cool shop though
David when I hear you talk about the new direction and interests on Making It you sound excited but to watch you talk about them on video it takes it up another notch. It’s really a gas to see how excited and jazzed you are about the new direction you’re taking your work. I’m really looking forward to watching where this leads.👍👍👍👍
That's two shop tour videos I've now watched. And it's all your fault! 😁 I think my favorite part of this was your sheer joy and enthusiasm about what you're doing here. I can't wait to see what cool stuff comes out of this shop. Thanks for sharing!
I usually only tires in the spring during maintenance season in Heart of Ohio. I have to tires my vehicles, mowers, tractors and all their accessories. Great video.
I thought I was the only one who had a “get dirty” hat. Mine has been sun bleached, sweat stained, and cut up but it always lives in the door panel of my truck for when I need it.
A benchtop portable bandsaw table conversion such as from Swag Industries would be very handy. Plus, don't worry about making sparks from your chopsaw; I've had mine for a few years and it's worked fine. Have fun with your shop!
I really love your energy in this video, I can't stop smiling. Will we see some metal sculpture build in the future? I look forward to all the new content - exciting stuff! Keep it up brother!
Let me guess it cold in Ohio - DUDE close the door!!! LOL- bet its open for the light. I am so looking forward to your go-kart videos. Oh and I seemed to notice a little passion in there.. nice to see it again, glad to see your getting your MOJO back.
If you do need to mount tools to the floor temporarily, check out drop-in anchors: you can remove the securing bolts and washers, but the anchors stay put. Of course, read the directions and check the thickness of your slab.
Southern PA bud in the same vote also just bought my first welder setup. Practice some stick the learning curve is sharper but since I've only did a little mig years ago and wrong. After a few hours of stick if I was to try a mig that's gonna be like using a hot glue gun. Tig looks nicer with wood working by miles.
Dude, you're just funny. Do more stuff like this (if you like it)! I've been waiting to get into go cart stuff since that first video! I like seeing people build things that get used, I feel like everyone's just completing tasks in the maker videos. Like it!
So excited to see you really getting into metal work! The metal shop is coming along great! I don't even wear hats, but I definitely want to get a get dirty hat myself! New merch idea?!?!
5 or 6 grinders is better cutting grinding cup brush flat wire brush etc.. Don't have to change it out every time just grab another grinder😁 its awesome.
How good is it to be able to tyre? At you're own home? In northern Ohio? In February? I love that! Its why I wait with great anticipation for your uploads! Loving the new videos Dave!
I had problems with my harbor freight welding helmet, specifically seeing what I was welding (it was all blurry), but I solved that by removing the protective plastic stuck to the interior side of the view screen. I felt pretty silly after that.
U should get a multi position vise helps a lot with welding positions to challenge your self and become a beast. Ask your self don't u want to become a beast?
Got yourself a pretty nice setup David ! Bolt your Vise to some flat stock and it will allow you to move it and temporary clamp it if needed to work ? Just a suggestion ? The racing sounds pretty cool !
"Tube Notcher" sounds like an insult like, "Look at this guy!" "Yeah man that dude is a real tube notcher!" "Totally bro, his whole family is a bunch of tube notchers!" "Except for his sister she's cool, she once let me copy off her Geometry test in Mr. Parks' class." "Oh man I remember Mr. Parks he used to show us slides of his family vacations for the last 10 minutes of class every Friday." "Dude I totally forgot about that, it was so weird why did he do that?" "I don't know man but it was better than looking at more Geometry problems."
I couldn't afford a belt grinder when I started (still can't actually😂) but I made a pretty decent one from scrap steel I had laying around, and following a yt video. The only money I basically spent was on the contact wheel which was around $170
Carbide blades don't throw sparks everywhere and don't wear down as fast as the fibre ones do. It's like a woodworking chop saw but with much lower rpm.
haha, "Dude is clueless" cracked me up. Enjoyed the tour David! Curious the CFM spec on the compressor. I just upgraded mine for (potentially) HVLP, etc., but curious if it may handle plasma cutting. Go get that hat dirty! - Jim

“Duty”, “I can tyres”, “because of science”... the sense of fun is electric. It’s great to see you totally killing it. Love.
Thank you!
Make Something You’re so very welcome. I’ve followed you since early drunken days and am a Making It patreon. It’s you who deserve all the thanks...
"Dude is clueless" cracked me up.
"...because of science and whatnot..." Really nice to see your enthusiasm, and looking forward to project vids from the metal shop!
Man, that enthusiasm is back! Brilliant to see. You've changed... But that change has brought you full circle because now you can learn something new again and we can tag along for the ride.
I could not even imagine living with only two angle grinders, I have 11 and feel like I need (want) to buy more
Gotta have one for each type of wheel at least
I have 5 and I only ever use one these days. The cordless one! Would like a second one of those though for sure. I kind of found that now that I a cordless bandaw, belt grinder, and good chop saw I just don't go to the grinder first. So sick of abrasive dust anyway.

Dang! That's an inspiring story! Right on!
I spent 5 minutes cracking up to "Tires.......I can Tires."
Really great to see your enthusiasm is back!

The get dirty hat is a must have. Has a nice patina in a year or so.

Haha! Thanks Bill!
Love your technical terms
Man you metal shop is coming along. Cannot wait for you to start building the chassis and new go cart. Love the new direction you are going.
Subscribed at "I can tires." Awesome setup! Great video. Cant wait to watch more! Keep up the wicked work!
Really cool to see it all come together after listening to your ideas on the podcast
Love the energy in this video, can really see the "stay passionate" coming through!! Looking forward to your future content!
Im not gonna be welding or anything with metal but I LOVE your enthusiasm! Thanks for Sharing!
Thank you!
Great video. I look forward to the progress videos and your racing blogs!
Love the relaxed David BTS style of video.
Science and what not 😂😂 love it 😎
Good luck work all the new adventures. Make it work

*Goes to buy a house*: "The house is great, but does it come with a free vice?" - Kickass video David!
Hehehe!
Your metal shop is pretty rad + can do tires, what’s not to love
I just bought a welder yesterday, so this couldn't be any better timing for me! Thanks!
About welding hoods

Best shop tour yet!
I work out of an unheated garage in Southern Minnesota, so I feel your pain! Really liking your content this year, keep it up.
“Guy is clueless.” Hehe, I like the self deprecating humor.
I’m jealous of your belt grinder, it’s on my list.
Holy F-Stop Batman, I'm digging the depth of field. Oh yeah...the metalshop is kinda rad too.

You've changed. Thanks.

Awesome stuff David! 😃👍🏻👊🏻
Dude another belter... loving the fun element makes me laugh a lot. Looking forward to the kart build. 👍👍👍
You got your mojo back! Love it :-)
Dave Marcis made that hat famous, oh and he also wore wing tips
Awesome shop man 🤙🏽
Great video as always. “Tires....I can tires” I lost it lol great stuff.
"I can tires" Outstanding video!
If that hats dirty by the end of the year you know it's a Goodyear
Different subject matter, same great Picciuto! Keep it up brother. Great thumbnail btw.
Thank you and thank you!
As a northern wisconsinite...I can appreciate the cold factor
A benchtop portable bandsaw table conversion such as from Swag Industries would be very handy. Plus, don't worry about making sparks from your chopsaw; I've had mine for a few years and it's worked fine. Have fun with your shop!
Thanks! Swag makes some high quality stuff. The mods for my tube bender come from Swag. I'll check it out!
I really love your energy in this video, I can't stop smiling. Will we see some metal sculpture build in the future?
I look forward to all the new content - exciting stuff!
Keep it up brother!
The moment I come up with a cool sculpture I idea I'll shoot a video! Thanks!
Looking forward to your new adventures, David! :)

I can tires...thanks for making my day with your ridiculousness. Love it. Much appreciated
Because of science!! That should just be an explanation for everything from now on 😂😂😂😂
Right!?!! 😁
Love it dude!
Big thumbs up from the SoFlo Fam!! 👊🏼😎👍🏼
Nice work dude!
We need monthly updates on how well the hat is aging. Maybe do a timelapse of the hat 😆
Southern PA bud in the same vote also just bought my first welder setup. Practice some stick the learning curve is sharper but since I've only did a little mig years ago and wrong. Sweet, I also have a similar vise that came with my house. I bolted it to a 2x8 and clamp the 2x8 down whenever I need the vise.
Next week, Compressed air drops and enclosed Compressor:) Love the route your taking with you channel!
Dude, you're just funny. Do more stuff like this (if you like it)! I've been waiting to get into go cart stuff since that first video! I like seeing people build things that get used, I feel like everyone's just completing tasks in the maker videos. Like it!
Awesome! Dude do you even tier 😂 days of thunder coming buddy! Good luck from Poland!
"Turning walnut wheels for my go kart" would be a great video to bring both worlds together....
You’re funny. This was great to watch :)
Can't wait to see the "patina" on the get dirty hat by the end of the year
Cool video, literally! When you dive in you really go deep. : ) Great metal shop. Mahalo for sharing! : )
I feel like a work shirt that says david would go perfect with the hat.
So excited to see you really getting into metal work! The metal shop is coming along great! I don't even wear hats, but I definitely want to get a get dirty hat myself! New merch idea?!?!
"Get Dirty" hats is now on the future merch list!!
Sign me up!
Is Camera-man Dan still editing? I got the feeling that the humor has changed recently and I like it 😁
It would be much more accurate to say that they're all Make Something productions, we're just glad that you dig 'em.
Go for it, i'm here!

A little clueless but u getting there mate 👍🏼
I had problems with my harbor freight welding helmet, specifically seeing what I was welding (it was all blurry), but I solved that by removing the protective plastic stuck to the interior side of the view screen. I felt pretty silly after that.
Ha! It happens!
Troy Johnson Before I figured out to remove that protective plastic, I welded the cat to my bench. Live and learn. Lol
Very cool, being from Toledo/Perrysburg I always appreciate when you and highlight local stuff and artists. Keep up the great work!
I can highly recommend Lincoln electrics welding school in cleveland if your interested I loved it
U should get a multi position vise helps a lot with welding positions to challenge your self and become a beast. Ask your self don't u want to become a beast?
Got yourself a pretty nice setup David ! Bolt your Vise to some flat stock and it will allow you to move it and temporary clamp it if needed to work ? Just a suggestion ? The racing sounds pretty cool !
I need to do this! Thanks!
The white heater. What model is that? Need to get one for my shop. Workshop isnt insulated & in Buffalo, winters are cold af
You're a tube notcher! Sorry, that sounded really funny when I said it in my head. Keep up the amazing work, David!
You're a tube bender!
@@MakeSomething LOL! Love it!

get your frozen ass inside, get a hot cup of cocoa and binge watch This Old Tony.

Get dirty hat is badass
You need a “Get hands dirty” hat!
That last 'dude is clueless' should have been 'dude is glueless' ;)
Hahaha!!!
Good❤
Get back at me when you have about 7 more angle grinders - it will happen :-).
Haha! Where will I put them all?!?!
@@MakeSomething weld up a grinder rack !!!
I couldn't afford a belt grinder when I started (still can't actually😂) but I made a pretty decent one from scrap steel I had laying around, and following a yt video. The only money I basically spent was on the contact wheel which was around $170
Awesome! I have no idea why belt grinders are so expensive.
Didn't follow the "you gotta get a carbide tooth blade someday" for your chop saw?
Carbide blades don't throw sparks everywhere and don't wear down as fast as the fibre ones do. It's like a woodworking chop saw but with much lower rpm.
I like the new style of videos, "dude is clueless" is great!! BTW, where can one get your OHIO hat? I've been jealous of that for a while
Thanks! I got mine from ClothOhio.com.
"I can tires" I think I'm gonna get that on a painting in my house
great setup, if you dont have a buyer for the engine and want to bring it to jimmy's track this summer, l would like to buy it,
Thanks! The engine needs to stay with the Kart.
BEST SHOP TOUR EVER!! but(t) I do wonder, is it cold in northern Ohio?
Hi Jack!
haha, "Dude is clueless" cracked me up. Enjoyed the tour David! Curious the CFM spec on the compressor. I just upgraded mine for (potentially) HVLP, etc., but curious if it may handle plasma cutting. Go get that hat dirty! - Jim
What brand of mobile base are you using on the drill press?
Not sure of the brand but I think I bought it from my local Woodcraft.
This was cool to watch. My Dad might inherit my Grandpas house and I would love to build a work shop with a studio on top of the garage. I would do all the electrical with the help of my uncle and I'm a welder too so id do anything metal related, my bestfriend would do my plumbing, I have a few friends who are framers and one of my friends is an engineer so Idk if id need his help to lay out the prints of the structure etc. But watching your vid inspired me to have an idea of what stuff to buy. Just wondering how much all that would cost 🤔
Its just an idea and dream of mine since houses here in Cali are ridiculously expensive, nothing concrete yet....
