Fabulous review John on the heljan 33 I have the earlier mainline version. Just to let you know just for a bit of weathering I used kiwi liquid shoe polish in a bottle in brown and black it works absolutely fabulously and you can wash your brushes in water but when dry it becomes waterproof and only costs about £2.50 from asda. Don't tell sc Johnson!!
I had the Lima 33 back in the 80s bought detailing kit for it and name plates Earl Mountbatten Burma Star . This is a fantastic detailed out the box loco great job on the weathering.
Hi Vaughan, yes I had one too, but today’s Heljan model is in another league or even universe. With all the details it looks so real. With the sound fitted too I love it lol
Hi John, A fine running Diesel, slow speed is superb and your detailing & weathering is well done! Sounds nice too. Happy model railroading! Greetings Filip
Hi John Loving the new class 33 - fits in beautifly with this layout! also love the detailing you have put in so far with tent on fire and the weathering. I also felt your pain with trying to do the signals also loving the changes you are making over on the N guage as well! Cheers for now, Derek.
Thanks Paul, yes definitely a beauty. Weirdly never been a 33 fan, as they are mostly known as southern locos, never north out of st pancras. Just the livery did it for me
@@piccadillysidingsoogaugemo6445 I find them to very controllable. I use Loksound V5's in mine. One is 33008 Eastleigh, the other is 33119 that I use with my 4TC set.
Really enjoyed this video! I have a z21 sat in a box itching to be used so really find that side useful along with the programming. I also have a ton of locos to weather so really nice seeing yours done. Great Job! keep them coming :)
Just started of my channel a couple of weeks ago, got 2 layouts on the go both in N-gauge, currently using a Zimo system and a Digitrax pr3 for programming on jmri but loved the look of the z21, just need to get my arse into gear and give it a try LOL!
Hi John I now have two of these locos, fitted with Hunt close couplings and as there thin there was no need to remove any details and it goes round my 2nd and 3rd radius curves no trouble Cheers Peter
Brilliant, thankyou for telling, my only previous experience of buffer beam detail was on the N gauge 68, where I had to cut most of it off to allow the coupling to move. So that is good news. I had to swap out my grain of wheat bulbs for LEDs I had one fail after 4 days, but easy fix
Mine too, did you fit red lights or did your models come fitted? I did fit red lights, they work, but... I have a red high intensity light too lol. Any thoughts how to correct it? I did try slipping in bit of insulating tape but that didnt work. The red lights are quite dim so in daylight you wouldnt notice.
@@piccadillysidingsoogaugemo6445 olivias trains did the mod for me, what they do is fit a white led for the main light then protect it from any other light source. the small lights and head codes still get there feed from the original bulb. a red led is fitted behind there plastic tunnels which when lit light the head codes and the small side lights which is wrong as only the head code should be alight but its imposable to alter that with the plastic light tunnels thats fitted
Hi Matt got my 33 today and the yochoss Chip i can not get the light to work but everything else is working is there a CV to change. sound is good . had a problem getting the body of but got there in the end body when back on no problem Ron
Hi Ron, sounds like you may have the decoder in the wrong way. Try turning it around 180*, see if that helps. Youchoos told me that wouldn’t harm the decoder, but the lights wouldn’t work. If necessary we can always do video call through messenger tomorrow afternoon possibly so I can see. Btw depending on the loco you have there may not be any tail lights just front lights. I had one bulb start to die on me, so I swapped them for LEDs been fine since. Regarding CVs Youchoos do set up the decoders very nicely so it’s not really necessary to change it, have a play see how it runs, think on your layout the 33 can out the taps a bit as I think you layout is a loop layout is that right, hoping I’m not confusing you with someone else. Think I’m right in saying youve been doing a lot of work on platforms recently, is that yourself? By the way I’m John lol, seemed to be getting called all sorts of names this week, you the fourth ha ha ha

Hi John - Very good review and a great job on the weathering. I have not long got the BR Blue weathered version it am very pleased with it......Cheers Kev
Thanks Kev, me too few minor issues developing nothing much though. They’ve used grain of wheat bulb not LEDs meaning they could blow, one of my is fading fast after 2 days. Great video, John. It is a gorgeous Loco/Unit. Nice tutorial on adding the decoder and adjusting CV values. and the other touches you've added. Less is More is so important to understand. Anyhow, you probably already know, but "Motorola" (from the famous company) is also known as "MM" (Märklin Motorola") and it is the programming protocol for my trains (Märklin) and only Märklin uses it. Companies like Roco used to license MM protocols to put on their AC trains for the Märklin systems (3 Rail track/AC run), but now all controllers have read both DCC and MM for years. Technically MM is no longer used by Märklin, as they have upgraded all their decoders to MFx and now MFx+. Eventually the Z21 and z21 will upgrade to the "MM" symbol, the ECoS did about 3 years ago. It's all the same- Motorola/MM/Mfx- and used by just the one company to program their decoders. (Apologies if I am stating the obvious or the already known).
Thank you for your kind words Anthony. I obviously knew of Motorola, but not really any idea what it’s like. I don’t think any manufacturers of U.K. stock use it, as you said just Marklin and by the sound of it they’ve moved from it too. Thank you Anthony we learn something every day
