Why does Elbow talk to my very soul ?? It's the poetry for middle aged men who cannot capture their inner thoughts but are reminded that life is simple and complex and glorious!!!!!.....thanks Guy
Elbow will always be apart of my life. Me and dad singing their songs in his car really makes the stress and anxietys float away. Thanks Elbow for helping me through the darkest of times.
my son moved away from our home in Tennessee 9 years ago to pursue a career in NYC. for a long time i hated NY for taking him away. this song helped me make peace with it. lovely. just lovely.
It wasn't NY that took him away. I'm going to say it was something you instilled in him... vs. something he was running away from? Hope he's done well, given your post was 9 yrs ago.
Amazing - like so many great Elbow songs, it's uplifting and inspiring but has the realism and down-to-earthiness that stops it from being syrupy. Another perfect track from a brilliant band :)
I think it's a shame most of people I know waste their time asking "Will I succeed?" to finally stumble and fall on the most important question, "Have I loved ?".
It is a great song paired with such a beautiful video, it just gives me the feels. The couple is totally awesome, living life on their own terms and enjoying each others company and having few regrets.
revol148 "That's what I do with my money. Buy gas and go see bands." It doesn't take a lot of money to fund a great life. It just depends on what your expectations are and where you put the money you have.
Alex Unruh oh yes indeed - particularly in western countries you need shed loads of cash to even get by nowadays. Certainly you would have to have pretty low expectations of life if money wasn't a vital factor. Just by looking at the people featured here you can tell they are not exactly short of money - that nice big house in a suburb of New York (hardly a budget city), regular trips abroad and their obsession with music comes with a price-tag. I'm speculating inherited wealth here...
I remember driver in the middle of the night in the north of Scotland with my dad I must have been only 9 mabye 10 pitch black on back country roads but some how I felt like I was In a completely different world and from that point on I have always listens to this song to be put back in to that world and with me turning 16 just a week ago and having made the biggest disision of my life just a thu months ago I know going in to the next big step in my life I will be returning to that world a lot
I have no words,.......... i don't know about other people but for me this is one of those songs which ill remember till i close my eyes never to open again..
Found Elbow on IHeart Radio.... Man... am I ever a fan of their music. Within the riffs chord progressions etc... the music is well thought out, the lyrics are intellectually witty ..... the story their songs tell paint such a portrait that videos do them no justice. Proof positive that a song is a canvas, and the artists are the brushes and paint. Jolly lovely I say!
Love it! Not for the 14-15 year old, exceptions granted. A new sound, like the early years of Genesis, The Beatles, The Stones. In 20 years, they all know about it. But we were the first to know!!!!
Never thought it possible to actually physically love a band. But after seeing Elbow last night in cardiff i now know that that is possible and deafening. being literally feet away from the one and only Guy Garvey and having him blow a kiss at my mum who went as red as a tomato and screamed like a girl that truly was an amazing and they truly are a stupendous band.
I was mesmerized by this video of the colorful couple who were a part of musical history and the scene of Greenwich Village back in the day. Very cool!
I can't describe how this makes me feel. I loved Elbow and Guy has an awesome voice. This tune is just beautiful it really is. I am so looking forward to seeing them on their opening night of their tour in Birmingham on April 5th.
the fact that you put so much human life into every song you make is the reason you are so great. no one else quite achieves the same effect. the lyrics are the icing on the cake, truly masterful. well done Manchester lads, I do hope to see you again before I give my last nod to the birds on the sunset.
I love everything about this song...it makes me feel warm and happy...I don't even know why and I don't have to...I just let its beauty wash over me...
that was so moving! and beautiful. the subtitles telling the story behind the lyric, terrific concept. and you are so courageous to use pop music to tell a story abotu aging. that sort of thing is so important, thank you. looking forward to seeing your OAK show on May 27th.
I love this song ❤❤ the video is beautiful. Love really does keep you strong especially if you find a loyal faithful person. All you have to do is stick with them and them with you. Love is a beautiful thing if you truly have it. Its a true saying its better to have love than lost. If they didnt love you back at least you know you gave your all.
I saw this song the first time in the tv show circus halli galli, and now I can not stop the song tag Daily departures to hear. I knew elbow already, but I am always happy when good new songs come out. agree with this, I must always think of zucchero, it sounds almost as if the two brothers!
This song and video are absolutely incredible, I’m 19 now and this takes me right back to being 14 with my two dear friends Japhy and Bay, the part about Andy Warhol would make us all tear up! x
It's Brilliant, I think the song has a certain melancholia that is reflected in both the interview of the Dennis and Lois and the music itself. That line, I can't remember how it goes, "everything we loved is gone but we're still here" towards the end of the video, really captures that idea: if New York could talk, what would it it say. It also brings me to the realization that there were better periods of this city which I unfortunately missed out on. I can't stop listening to this thing. Thanks for making it.
Pure magic from the Elbow boys again, and again, and again, and again... How do they manage to come up with such bangers or anthems yet manage to retain a sense of grace and intellect? Answers on a post card because that is what they would do...
Epic sounding song from the 1st play, great band, love the fact that when you seem them live, they genuinely seem to appreciate and love what they are doing. Looking forward to the whole album.
Lovely tribute to the music and this couple, guys. And as someone living in New York, who enjoyed living in that neighborhood and still spends a lot of time there, thank you!
Got to see them play in Raleigh when they came with Coldplay in 2009. My girlfriend at the time scored cheap tickets and I was kinda meh towards going. Imagine my surprise when my favorite band ever came to stage and started blasting the trumpet notes for a certain song. Great single guys. Make a stop this way again soon please!!!
I'd like to reflect on experience, and this is one of a kind I'd like to express my feelings about.NYC is much about business world. This song brought a light into the dark world of monetisation. Happy to see smiley faces in NYC.
I also think the juxtaposition of the printed "monologue" with the (relatively) clear lyrics creates a slight sense of disorientation, while never really straying from the message/theme, which, for me, is what New York is; hope, faith, ambition and love. Cheers!
Went to see them at the NIA, Birmingham, last night. Mint, as always! just wish they'd have performed the title track of their new album. A night to remember!
+ION iC Yeah. Just listened again. Really tuneful. Very PG-ish, definitely. The harmonies and instrumentation, and the steady ramp up to the big peak. Then the quiet end out. Beautiful stuff...
Why does Elbow talk to my very soul ?? It's the poetry for middle aged men who cannot capture their inner thoughts but are reminded that life is simple and complex and glorious!!!!!.....thanks Guy
It's what makes them so great, he sings what we don't say.
Speak fur yersel , ah capture ma inner fckn thoughts oan a regular basis
EVERYBODY OWNS THE GREAT IDEAS! That is a true fact. We all have great ideas inside of us.
And now I'll play it again...
Elbow will always be apart of my life. Me and dad singing their songs in his car really makes the stress and anxietys float away. Thanks Elbow for helping me through the darkest of times.
You must have had a young dad. Love your post. Kudos to Elbow and you're dad?
my son moved away from our home in Tennessee 9 years ago to pursue a career in NYC. for a long time i hated NY for taking him away. this song helped me make peace with it. lovely. just lovely.

@@JohnTVMartin he has! Thank you!
So what does everyone think of the single?
Amazing - like so many great Elbow songs, it's uplifting and inspiring but has the realism and down-to-earthiness that stops it from being syrupy.
Another perfect track from a brilliant band :)
Top Job
It's nice to see some change of pace in a bands style. I'm liking what i hear here. Keep it up! n_n
As always Beautifully Addictive!
Gets better the more i hear it, so evocative of the subject matter. Uplifting without feeling forced or cheesy...can't wait for the album.
Elbow is one of the best bands in the world.
I think it's a shame most of people I know waste their time asking "Will I succeed?" to finally stumble and fall on the most important question, "Have I loved ?".
Guy Garvey - legend. Possibly much, much more.
Having discovered Elbow, the journey of exploration continues to fascinate me. I am in a free fall of ecstasy
New york is a amazing city I was surprised at how friendly the people were there .🙂.. totally didn't expect that dunno why 😀
The modern Rome where folk are nice to Yoko might be the best lyric of the 21st century so far. It's SO uplifting for some reason.
It is a great song paired with such a beautiful video, it just gives me the feels. The couple is totally awesome, living life on their own terms and enjoying each others company and having few regrets.
kuryamtl not sure where all their money comes from to fund such a great life...

Wow
So true when you think on it for a minute
"That's what I do with my money; buy gas and see bands" - Sounds like a marvelous life :)
Good luck man, you're going to do great!
This song is a perfect example of what Elbow can do when they get it right. Another dimension!!!!
Massive nod to Manchester here. A song that always tears me up
It feels like taking flight for the first time.
I have many favorites... this is still a big one.
It takes a band like Elbow to immortalise the lives of two amazing people into the video clip of this beautiful song.
'The first to put a simple truth in words...' = most of Elbow's output. Superb.
I have no words,.......... i don't know about other people but for me this is one of those songs which ill remember till i close my eyes never to open again..
Such a beautiful song. I get goosebumps every time I listen to it.
Had the ending of this tattooed on my arm years ago I was 23 and going through some shit this song really hit home
I'm not on daft social media. I hope Dennis & Lois are with us still x Amazing couple. Remember them from 88.
Life is all about the memories you have and this song captures that
Found Elbow on IHeart Radio.... Man... am I ever a fan of their music. great song! feels like a Peter Gabriel tune
it does indeed have a sweet and slow "Shaking The Tree" groove, and the vocal is similar enough as well. Nice get.
Cheers!
Made me think of "In Your Eyes."
skobichevskii Guy Garvey is a big fan of Genesis
Yes, Pete Townsens and Peter Gabriel-esque. I hear is in so many of the songs. How can one not be drawn to greatness.
yeah heard it on car radio thought it was PG took a while looking in wrong file finally Elbow fantastic. PG is a fan me too!!
great song cheers fellas but Dennis and Lois absolutley beautiful I hope you guys are still doing what you do XXXX
This is the most amazing song I've heard in a long time. I saw the live version on the Jimmy Fallon Show and fell in love with it.
Love it! Not for the 14-15 year old, exceptions granted. A new sound, like the early years of Genesis, The Beatles, The Stones. In 20 years, they all know about it. But we were the first to know!!!!
Una obra maestra.. much love from Honduras..
This hits home
From sunny South Africa, thank you for this beautiful song! Regards HM🍷🇿🇦
Songs of Elbow, even the melancholic ones, can change your everyday life in a nice or even wonderful colour!
Elbow sang this last night on the final night of the tour with them in the audience. Just beautiful
Fanbloodytastic just gets better the more you listen to it ! Makes me wanna go back .
YES!!! The Taking Off And Landing Of Everything top of the Album Charts.
That couple has a great story!
Sean Langan kid you don't know the half of it ;)
Never thought it possible to actually physically love a band.

Nice song and nice tribute to NYC. I've been here since 2004, having grown up in L.A. I love New York and could never get enough of this city.
I was mesmerized by this video of the colorful couple who were a part of musical history and the scene of Greenwich Village back in the day. Very cool!
Great song. Lots of love from my little country Honduras!
I can't describe how this makes me feel. I loved Elbow and Guy has an awesome voice. This tune is just beautiful it really is. I am so looking forward to seeing them on their opening night of their tour in Birmingham on April 5th.
What a beautiful tune, elbow and cold play are responsible for such beautiful moments in my life
the fact that you put so much human life into every song you make is the reason you are so great. no one else quite achieves the same effect. the lyrics are the icing on the cake, truly masterful. well done Manchester lads, I do hope to see you again before I give my last nod to the birds on the sunset.
Another great Elbow song. Now I love Dennis and Lois too
I love everything about this song...it makes me feel warm and happy...I don't even know why and I don't have to...I just let its beauty wash over me...

that was so moving! and beautiful. the subtitles telling the story behind the lyric, terrific concept. and you are so courageous to use pop music to tell a story abotu aging. that sort of thing is so important, thank you. looking forward to seeing your OAK show on May 27th.
Oh my God this track's sublime. Guys, another piece of musical elegance for the ears. Not bad for Northerners eh?
I love this song ❤❤ the video is beautiful. Love really does keep you strong especially if you find a loyal faithful person. All you have to do is stick with them and them with you. Love is a beautiful thing if you truly have it. Its a true saying its better to have love than lost. If they didnt love you back at least you know you gave your all.
Simply stunning, amazing live.
Crystal clear and pure. Great homage to a great city.
Can't wait to hear the new album and see the guys at Birmingham and Liverpool in April. So excited
I saw this song the first time in the tv show circus halli galli, and now I can not stop the song tag Daily departures to hear. I knew elbow already, but I am always happy when good new songs come out. agree with this, I must always think of zucchero, it sounds almost as if the two brothers!

I met Lois at an Elbow gig, and I burst into tears.
Pure magic from the Elbow boys again, and again, and again, and again...
How do they manage to come up with such bangers or anthems yet manage to retain a sense of grace and intellect?
Answers on a post card because that is what they would do...
Nice to see there still are some bands that put thought into their music videos...
I'm thankful to God I found this song.
I’ve listened to this song many times and it is beautiful. So i share it on my Facebook page 10:11 PM - The power of music!

Cheers!

Pre-ordered! The waiting is killing me!! Another absolute classic album, no doubt, from one of Englands finest bands ;)
Impeccably written and performed. What a wonderful marriage.
I'd like to reflect on experience, and this is one of a kind I'd like to express my feelings about.NYC is much about business world. This song brought a light into the dark world of monetisation. Happy to see smiley faces in NYC.
Nice to find - Sara Jane and I met 21 years ago today. Thanks, guise!
Goosebumps. Love Elbow!!! Can't wait to see you again in April!
To say I've heard good things is an understatement, can't wait for the album :)

Oh my giddy aunt this song is so incredible...
Still love it
Went to see them at the NIA, Birmingham, last night. Mint, as always! just wish they'd have performed the title track of their new album. A night to remember!

Reminds me of Peter Gabriel. A lot. Really liked this piece...
+Capt. Willy so true

Great performance, on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon! Brilliant, boys! Thank you!
So joyous and uplifting...makes me cry.
