One of my favorite movies

I'm not sure if you noticed, but one of the remarkable things about Cast Away is that there is almost no musical soundtrack for almost 45 minutes of the movie . From the time he lands on the island until he leaves, the only sounds are his voice and his natural surroundings
You know an actor is good when he can make you almost tear up over losing a volleyball.
My daughter told me her high school film class was going to watch this. I don't give away anything or give any spoilers, I just told her "You're gonna feel like crying over something you never thought you'd cry about." I came home from work the next day and she said "Wilson!". 😄
I was seriously racking my brain about what you possibly could have been talking about. I thought you meant maybe the fact That his girlfriend/pre fiance Moved on and actually had a family. I have always been entirely on the fence about that entire situation. I really really dislike that she chased him down the road and kissed him. Because she has a husband and a kid and I don't condone cheating under any circumstance. Except at the same time I was really glad that it happened and I felt so bad for him..... and for her For that matter. That whole situation sucks.
I never felt emotional over wilson until I re watched this as an adult. As a kid I couldn't quite connect myself to a person being so lonely they have to talk to a volleyball.
@@natecloe8535 least it wasn't a tennis ball. 😉
I saw the wings being about angels always being with you. When she said "You look lost", It came full circle for me.
His name was Chuck Noland. Chuck as in "throw away" or "cast away." Noland because on an island with only water around him.... there is literally NO LAND.
Wow
I remember hearing that Wilson volleyball sales went off the rails after this movie came out. The Wilson Co had to stop production of tennis balls for a while to keep up with demand. Btw, whales have guided people lost at sea for centuries. There's many many stories and videos of this. Also, the Giant Manta Ray, same thing. Mantas were a mystery for a long time. But with the invention on better scuba and camera gear, you can see these beautiful creatures are actually very social, intelligent, and enjoy human contact. #mantaray
The scene of him on the raft and floating through the storm after the crash hit a lot different in the theater. You were in the pitch black with him until the lightning came in. The raft bursting against the rock was just as much of a jump scare though.
I remember- it felt like 3 minutes of darkness with the storm surging through the speakers. A unique cinema experience!
I remember myself and literally everybody else in the theater cringing in their seat, And actually crying out when he knocks his tooth out with that skateblade. There was a pretty good group gasp when he punctured his leg on the coral also.
The irony of this movie is really two fold:
1 - Unfastening his seat belt to get the watch SAVED his life.
2 - With many ships looking for recovery and rescue survivors of the plane crash, you would think they would have fancied the idea of perhaps checking out the island, since the currents were flowing that way with the packages and the dead pilots body, just a day or two after the crash.
Possibly the best aircraft crash scene ever (and an all round amazing movie).
The rogue live jet engine free-floating was just ridiculous though.
I can’t watch it. Way too real and upsetting.
Not according to this guy who investigates plane crashes.
He also claimed that engine should have shut off after the plane crashed?
At a Q&A, someone asked the director what was in the "wings" package. He said it was a portable, solar-powered satellite telephone. 😅
Lol! 😄
BAhaha
Time, time, time. And when he washed up on the shore the first thing he checked was the watch, and he discovered that time, for him, had stopped.
You know a movie is amazing when a volleyball leaving its friend makes you cry. lol
This movie is the reason why i have a mini first aid and survival kit on my backpack and in my car at all times. you just never know
The irony of this movie is unfastening his seat belt to get the watch, SAVED his life.
This was a very different experience in the theatre. For long periods of time, the whole audience were completely silent and it was quite eerie.
The director started the joke that the package contained a waterproof, solar-powered satellite phone
The story of this movie is all about how Tom Hanks ended up marrying the welder farm woman at the end. Everything that happened in the movie ultimately led him to her.
Wilson should have won for best supporting actor.
Saturday Night Live did a great skit of the movie ending package delivery scene. Turns out the package had a sewing kit, water proof matches, fishing line, and a satellite phone.
No blow-up doll?
"If I was him, I'd go back into that cave and chill in it." 😅😅
I have long suspected that, in some/many Tom Hanks movies, there's a tiny snippet in the script that deliberately alludes to a previous Tom Hanks movie.
1)"Joe vs the Volcano": Hanks' character, floating on the ocean, sees the moon rise and says "I had no idea how....'Big'.....!"
2) "Apollo 13": When Haise tells Lovell of his wife's unplanned pregnancy, Lovell says "That has a tendency to happen", echoing the "Forrest Gump" jogging scene where the guy steps in dog**** and Forrest's comment becomes the '**** happens' bumper sticker.
3) "Cast Away", when at the end Bettina addresses Chuck as 'Cowboy', perhaps a nod to "Toy Story".
Can anybody think of any similar "Easter eggs" ?
AND - the last direction he face, after turning around in the intersection, was the road she was taking to her place. THAT'S where he was heading at the end.
WILSON!!!
I'M SORRY, WILSON!!!
Fun Fact about this movie. @0:16, Bettina (The name of the woman from the pickup truck at the end and owner of the Winged company) In the opening of the movie you can see her farm and a sign that reads, "Dick & Bettina". Also @0:19, the FedEx delivery guy calls her "Mrs. Peterson" and asks about her husband (aka Dick Peterson). She replies saying, he's snowbound, meaning he's in Russia, (cut from this video shows the delivery guy grab a package from Bettina, A package she sent to her husband, Dick, in Russia). At @0:35, You see that box being delivered to her husband, but you cut the part where he opens the door and grabs the package, and his mistress kisses him on the lips. (Yes, Dick is a cheater). Then the movie goes to Chuck (Tom Hanks's character) in Russia. At @33:36 You can see Chuck walk to her farm and now you can see the sign again, but this time, "Dick" has been removed, meaning. Bettina is no longer married to Dick. So. we can speculate that Chuck and Bettina will end up together.
19:25 - this is the scene I always remind myself of, while sitting in dentist chair. That I am lucky a professional is doing that and not me with ice skates and a rock.
Did the last South Pacific video come down? I was looking forward to watching that tonight...
Lol at the car horn @ 10:07.
It sounds as if it’s part of the movie.
😂
Use to be one of my favorite films. Still a good one. Watching the character "evolve" (maybe devolve back primitive living) is really cool. His drive to survive is impressive. His life after being rescued had to be a difficult adjustment
His first time out sure got bright & sunny pretty quickly !! 🤣🤣
One of my all-time favourite movies.
19:15 AWW you poor thing.
23:15 Could you imagine if that box had a lighter and fishing tackle in it?
I really love how smart u are it’s crazy.
Just have to say I LOVE your intros. Best out of all reactors. Let alone how much I love your reactions. Thanks for all your time and effort. 😘
Your Facial expressions are ❤ I love the way you hold your mouth lollll
Love your nails too
And you noticed that her husband's name at the end had been removed from her ranch sign, so she was single?
Oh, it wasn't a stopwatch.
They filmed the early island scenes first, then Hanks spent a year losing weight and growing his beard and hair for the second act, and while they were shooting that, they tried to figure out how they were going to end the movie. The waves and birds and everything were so loud on the island, that all the sound had to be re-recorded and all dialog ADR'd.
You know what is a great hidden gem of a movie? Legend of 1900. Turn of the century period piece, lavish like Titanic, beautiful fable, great music (jazz).
The port o potty, were actually wings as well. Im sure you picked up on that. Im sure Chuck will go and talk to that nice lady because at those crossroads, it was what the tide brought in
Wilson's demise is one of the sadest movie deaths ever.
There was a joke that the package he didn't open contained a GPS and a satellite phone.
Not sure if anyone pointed it out, but the woman at the end, was the wife of the cheating man in Russia at the beginning of the movie! That's why his name is cut out of the sign in the front of the driveway 😂😂 so they're both single! Kinda ties back to that full circle theme.
Salt water stings, but that's good. It's preventing infection by cleaning the wound.
I think it was irony, when he used the fed ex packages to help his survive. B/c technically he was probably going against Fed Ex policy by opening them and he was not that kind of employee. Obviously the circumstances called for what he did.
eyyy!! Been a minute it seems to me at least. Great react choice caliblend.
That sweater he had on at the dinner table, I think is of the same brand as the one I, and many others, wore in then early 80s. Elenka, it was called?
Hanks saying to Wilson, You still awake? So so funny. Lololololol🏐
"All the vowels!" 😂♥
Chuck: *Turns Wilson into a fleshlight*
"WILSON! I'M SORRY, WILSON!"
Would've sucked if that package had had a satellite cell phone in it.
I love that you point out the fact that hes in salt water and any injury he suffers is going to be made that much worse. I have swam in the ocean only a handful of times. I think 4 in my whole life. A family beach on South Padre Island during a mission trip in Mexico. And 3 times on my honeymoon Cruise in the Caribbean. The Times I swam on my honeymoon were pretty great. And that was a relief because the 1st time I ever swam in the ocean it was in the Gulf. The Gulf is noticeably more saturated with salt than the Caribbean is. 1st thing after I went in to the water up to my shoulders. I did not see that the next wave coming in was pretty big and it pushed me to the bottom and rolled me all the way backup onto the beach in the sand. It was like sandpaper being scraped all over my right arm and my back. That was the one and only time that I can ever remember just flat out crying in front of a group of people.
Love your reactions. SPLASH is the movie that made TOM HANKS a leading man in movies. Only 1 other channel has reacted to it so far. It's my favorite romantic comedy. Hope you add it to your reaction list.
I always think about her husband and what he could be thinking when Chuck shows up.
I DIDN'T NOOO THIS WAS A COMEDY. THANK YOU.
WOW. Your reaction is massively impressive. You really hit all the points. I want to see more of your insightful reactions.
No no no he bought the volley ball and all the other stuff to give to the original recipients. He was personally delivering them
With the video game Stranded Deep you too can be...Chuck. WILSON!!!!
32:24 comment 32:52 -Ernie Moore Jr.
Only bad thing about being good at your job, they always call you in the work.
I've been on a deserted island for 4 plus years I come home and give me crab legs and sushi...
in the original script the package he didn't open was divorce papers.
Everyone needs a Wilson.
Probably no one more different than Californiablend and me but no one I would rather watch a movie with, cry with, or get a hug from... She has so many insights (about movies and movie-making) that I would never get!
Did he really believe she was going to wait more than 2 weeks?!!!
delivery is pretty fast, but it comes looking like an old football
Love the verse! As always, your makeup and fit is on point! If you were Castaway, what three items would wash up on shore that you would like?
All the vowels. 😂
19:32 LMAO 😂😂
That was fun.
California Love! I've been watching this movie since it came out on the premium channels back in the day, not like Tom Hanks and his sailing classes, but like the middle class before it was destroyed in the late naughts
Oh! Millennials
26:50 oh.... OHHH lol
It's one BIG Fed-Ex commercial/promo.
I have to say, I just love the way you talk. That's a California accent I guess. You don't need to hear that you're very pretty, but I'll say it anyway. You react the way I imagine you do most things, with an intense energy.
UA-cam should pay you EVERY TIME you say "coconut".... you had me at Coconut!!!
You nailed it about time and crossroads at the beginning of the movie. I'm impressed! You should watch (If you haven't yet) The Martian, directed by Ridley Scott, with Matt Damon. Another great survival movie.
A total bore fest! I was praying for some bug eyed monsters to turn up. I found out a month after watching it that it's supposed to be a comedy. 😂
Great review as always!
If you like survival movies then I strongly recommend "Flight Of The Phoenix". It stars James Stewart (Rear Window, Vertigo, It's a wonderful Life etc, etc) & Richard Attenborough (Jurassic Park, Miracle on 34th Street etc, etc) amongst others. The Movie is made in 1965 & James Stewart plays a washed up pilot. Interestingly he actually flew in the second world war before he became an actor. The film is really just a very gripping character study of a bunch of guys stranded in the Sahara (I think) and follows their trials & tribulations in their bid to get home. It also has an epic twist. Please be aware there is a modern remake which is ok but not a patch the original.
You have the most beautiful teeth Ive ever seen! What can you possibly know about dental pain???🤣🤣🤣❤️
Check this movie out it's called blankman
On Family Guy they make fun of this movie. Then again , Family Guy makes fun of everyone !!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
You are so pretty, love your hair
Okay, I always assumed he'd end up with the redhead at the end, BUT I never noticed the wings on her truck, her art at her house or on the raft. One thing I always did remember was being terrified by that whale's eye and also being terrified by having a giant ship that close. Nope, nope, nope. I'd just live on the island and make a woman out of fronds.
WTF?
Please react to "Philadelphia"another Tom Hanks classic.
note: Dick's name was not on the woman's gate sign at the end.
I feel this is one of the best movies of my lifetime. Very observant with your “full circle” comment. I’d never noticed this before.
this film educates on humility to nature and the futility of commercial jobs. besides, fedex very much regretted having sponsored this film since they are seen as tyrants more than anything else. kudos to Zemeckis for that.
Wilson is probably the most famous non-living character in cinema. and it doesn't even have a word in the whole movie, hell of a performance 😂
Longest adrift at sea where the person survived was 14 months. I can't even imagine hot that was. He's a stronger person than I am. I probably would have drowned myself way before that.
21:04 Thought about what? 😭😭😭
The monologue camera made a half circle. Full circle would have been back to the starting point.
I once said I could watch paint dry with you 😉 and watching this proves it 😆
8:03 nah he'd be ok, he wasnt that deep and more importantly he wasnt breathing compressed air.
Hey, are you putting up the full length version of this?
Yes, this weekend I'll upload it!
@@Californiablend I’m more looking forward to The Pacific tbh, if it’s one or the other, but excited for both!
@@Californiablend hey I have a request for a movie anaconda and wearing gloves
"Told from the point of view of the package". Kind of ironic.
Bravo.
Love the video 💯🎉
I absolutely cannot watch the plane crash. 😱😱😱 I watched this once in a movie theater. Had no desire to see it again. I will watch this with you though at least in parts. His acting is superb especially as the driven overweight executive. 😂😂😂 I love the part at the very end where he eyes that Swiss Army knife type tool. Something we see and never realize how crucial something like that could be. I had something similar and it came in handy for decades.
I just noticed in the beginning she asked for the keys and they must have been on the keychain. He handed it right over.
fyi, saltwater is good for open wounds.
One of those rare movies where the 2nd best actor is an inanimate object. Wilson!!!!
19:32
How she fell in unison 😆
👍🏾
It's funny. I've watched this movie many times on television, but apparently I've only caught it part of the way through each time because I never saw that part where they started in Russia.
Then you missed a little side story. The first package was from the artist in Texas to her husband in Russia ... who's cheating on her. When Chuck returns the last package, you can see that the gate has been altered. Compare 0:17 with 33:36.
@@wwoods66 Oh, wow. That's cool :)
I love this movie, but dang it breaks my heart.
I love Tom Hanks, he’s a legend and needs to be protected 🤣
... like Epstein...
Who!??
Girl I love your reactions! You are so cute! 😍😍
