- We made a comparison of the new DJI OM 5 vs the older OM 4 and well, the result is pretty interesting. Both smartphone gimbals perform in an excellent way but...just let me know what you think.

Guys the price of the OM4 is still 149$, it will drop probably some time soon, but if you don’t have any gimbal, don’t even think about it, for 10$ diff just go for the om 5

Just bought the om4 today for $100. I feel the om4 suits all my needs. Plus with whatever update they had I can do everything the om5 can besides selfie
Now with the om 4 at $99 def now more worth to potentially get the old one
Everyone forgets the biggest difference: the tilt axis angle on om5 seems to be 30% smaller. If you want to make a shot from top to bottom in tilt lock you’ll see the difference immediately. I purchased om5, brought it back next day and got an im4.

Best video I found on this comparison. Had the 3rd gen and was looking to upgrade. I think the extension sold me and I'm going with the 5. I'm never going to be shooting more than 6.5 hours and I like that it's lighter. Only thing that concerns me is reading the comments, many people are saying the 5 has a limited tilt function and people are returning it because of this. I wish I could find a video that would explain exactly what this means and show an example of it.

I have the OM4 and don´t think the extending rod is enough selling point for me to upgrade... i love the long battery life and also the larger handle as i have fairly large hands.
You're right iZilly, OM4 is good enought, maybe wait until new generations and improvements :)
Yes, you can easily get an extension rod on your OM 4 and still enjoy the longer battery life and the more ergonomic handle.

I like the extension rod but I found out that the OM5 got rid of the variable speed joystick which is a major downgrade for me since I sometimes do slow panning shots. So I am keeping my OM4 along with my OM5.
The cheaper price and battery life is why I’ll be purchasing the OM 4, the OM 5 doesn’t have enough extra benefits.
Having more than half the battery life yet still taking 1.5h to charge isn’t what I’d call an advantage.
Yeah of course it charges faster and weighs less they took out the battery to sell you a selfie stick lol

Om 4 is beast!
Only issue with the OM5 is that it may not be allowed inside some places. Ex: Disneyland
Some places now prohibit the use of selfie sticks and the OM5 is basically now a stick. Hopefully you’ll be lucky if they won’t catch it at the security check. I’m for the OM4! I’m a guy so I can handle the heavier weight on anything.
You don't have to extend the selfie stick part and use the 5 as a standard gimbal

I want to get the OM5 although OM4 is really an amazing gimbal as well. But it seems like the OM5 is much more portable and I want that built-in extension rod too.
I'm coming I think from Osmo 3 and having a gimbal on the Smartphone makes life easier than having to setup the gimbal on the Ronin-S/RS2 every single time I want to film something ultra simple.
Please be careful before buying because the limited tilt of the OM5 is really a PITA. Many people are returning it because of this. Otherwise it’s awesome but this is a big issue

@@DaCake2 If you film everything with the gimbal upright it's ok, but as soon as your subject is smaller than 1m50 (approx) it becomes an issue since you can't point it forward and then down. You have to make a circle to the left which is really awkward. Once pointed down it flips 180 so you can't transition from ground level to eye level either. For filming selfies and adults is awesome though.

Is either the OM4 or OM5 actually compatible with the new iPhone 13 Pro Max? Or is it too heavy?
I have the OM4 and just picked up the Iphone 13 Pro Max. It works fine with it. Not sure if this phone will work with the lighter OM5.

hey, charging time on om5 isn't advantage, cause smaller battery, it is actually slower on 5 that on 4.
To be charged at the same speed 4 does it should be charged in less than 1,1h.
you should know that without calculating that 15h /2.5h is way better than 6.5/1.5h.
Nice video. Will either of these work for the Galaxy Ultra S22? Also, I'm a beginner, any advice on the OM4 OR OM5 if that matters?

In my region the OM5 and OM4 SE are exactly at the same price. But i am confused which one to buy 🤔 i like the long battery of OM 4 but i also like the extension rod, look and , traking of the OM 5... i am so confused its my first gimble and i want suggestions.....

correct me if i'm wrong ..larger the battery ,lesser will be charge cycles which in turn helps longer battery health.
that's a good point. in terms of "health" you're right. but i don't even think you will get close to more than 100-200 cycles in 3-4 years

I think I would have preferred the OM5 over the OM4 when I purchased the OM4 about 8 months ago, but I gotta say, I do love the OM4 which I purchased at a discount of $129 ($20 dollars is only ~12% or so off, but still). So $130 vs $160 for a selfie stick and a SLIGHT weight difference really isn't enough of a selling point for me right now.
However, if I could sell my OM4 at around $130 and use THAT to buy the OM5, that might be worth it. Great little video, appreciate the overview mate
I don't have and never owned a gimbal. I went to one of the shops close to where I live and they only had the 4. So you suggest getting the 4 instead of the 5? Also I really like that tracking option. Does the 4 not have active tracking? I assumed it is all done by software which you can upgrade. Please enlighten me on this. thanks
@@tangaimadambi813 both have active tracking, 5 has better tracking than 4, but the 4 isn't terrible. The lighter weight and extension is what I love about the 5, but lately, I've really loved the battery life on the 4. They both have their merits, so if the 5 doesn't sell you on the lighter weight and extendable pole, I would look for the 4 elsewhere

yeah the battery takes less time to charge cause its almost a third the size of the OM 4 so like charging them to a capacity where they get the same amount of use time would take the same amount of time

I just saw the footage there is a difference but it may be due to chivo’s phone (not an iphone) so it has not the same stabilization as mine. I dont think there is any difference honestly in stabilisation performance!

What I need to know is how well will it be able to fit a phone and either a dji mic receiver or a 3.5 input. My osmo 3 can't fit my phone and a 3.5 for my wireless mics
Did you really do a stabilization test with 2 different phones :P
Each new iphone has much better stabilization so that's not a good comparison
I don't think you could compare these though. Should be exactly the same, and more about how you hold it

I had the same mindset until I upgraded to the S21 Ultra and the gimbal kept getting into the frame when shooting in wide angle.
that is correct, as Shane says, if your gimbal handles well your smartphone, that's good, but if you have a bigger one or for example are interested in some of those activetracks enhancements or shotguides, then it's a good time to change :)

Will it still hold on even with an otter box case on a iPhone 13 pro max ?
Do you have the info how strong DJI OM 5 1/4"mount? Is it strong enough to use on bike and not smooth road? If there is a metal base under the plastic then it may be good. I tried Zhiun Smooth 4 and it broke on third or fourth bump.
What dslr gimbal do you use?

The review didn't answer any of the questions I had. The biggest differences (tilt angle) remain unmentioned, etc. This is a controversial update, many people report issues with OM5, and the video doesn't address any of it at all.
What about the motor strength?
What about the maximum possible rotation and tilt angles?

I'm interested in this, but the idea that the phone clamp is magnetic is a concern for me that anyone can just grab the phone and run off with it. Please let me know. Thanks.

I have the Galaxy Fold 3. The OM5 DOES NOT hold the Fold 3, while the OM4 does. Seems like the motors are weaker on the OM5.
maybe you meant to say the motor is weaker in the MO5?

Many people are reporting that OM5 cannot handle pro max
I tested OM4 with my Xiaomi mi note 10 (206g) and I had problems with stabilisation, with error message on the phone...
You can check the phone compatibility for OM4 coz my Poco f3 and Xiomi mi 9t pro is not really working with this gimbal.
