And just watch buying parts from Riga, Latvia. The scam going on there is that you pay for your parts using Paypal, but the seller doesn't actually own the part or have it in stock. There's a 14 day wait until they maybe send the part because they have to go out & import it first & then they charge three times the going price. The Ebay user name is rm-parts. Be very careful!

Fantastic overview of manufacturers and suppliers! I hope I can find someone who has done a similar video for UK available OEM parts. We seem to have the same mish-mash of makes without too much information about where stuff is actually made or relative quality. E.g. a blower fan for a 2008 'c' class can be from Ridex, Mahle, NRF, Valeo, AKS Dasis, Febi Bilstein etc. Prices vary from about £50 to £180 .... maybe I'll just repair the old one (again!)

The quality control I have seen for my 300sl have been poor at the aftermarket places. A crankshaft sensor from Pelican has given me great difficulty. Anything ignition related I will buy only genuine Mercedes Benz.

Thoughts on aftermarket chain tensioners on 116/117 engines? My mechanic who is a Mercedes mechanic of 48 years (took over his fathers repair only dealer that opened up in 1961) says he doesn't see any difference between the aftermarket units he has put in many cars versus the genuine unit which is 4x the price. Going to be taking my new-to-me 89 560SL in for the timing chain and works later this year because 116/117 timing chains give me anxiety (I've done one before as a shade tree mechanic but I'd rather drink bleach than do another). The mechanic is willing to put in the genuine one if I prefer it but is there really a point if there's no benefit?
Also, fun fact, on the W201 Febi is the only manufacturer available currently for driveshaft center carriers just like on the W123. I replaced mine on my former daily driven 190E 2.6 and I think it's started to act up again after a year and 17000 miles.
Don't buy URO fuel pump relays btw, I had one melt into it's socket once. With so many of these cars in the junk yard, the best way to handle the always present potential FPR failure is to just go to a pick and pull and grab a bunch (in addition to those ice cube relays in the fuse box).

I've always been afraid to use after market parts on my benz because Mercedes doesn't like cheap gas and cheap parts from my experience and my car is old so I'm really cautious with it 😬 2002 Mercedes E320 4Matic 155,000 miles on it. And if your car says Premium Fuel Only its for a reason one time I tried to be cheap and my car was like " Ok you wanna be cheap and drive a benz then I'm gonna show you what it feels like and i thought my engine was going to jump out and once its burned out miraculously my engine went back to normal. If your gonna own a benz its an investment for up keep even an older one like mine so if you don't want to invest in up keep DO NOT get a benz but if you do plan on keeping everything on point with the vehicle than a Mercedes can last a very long time and make an awesome vehicle.. That car is a beast in the snow with good tires vs many other AWD vehicles I have driven.. RWD version however is terrible I dont know why they botherd putting a winter mode in the RWD version thats gonna slide in the snow anyways... 😡 I would never buy a benz unless its AWD.

Amen, brother... I sold my dealership many years ago, but I've kept up with things. I would never buy ANY "Mercedes" parts made in China, and very few that weren't made in Germany or Austria. "Cheap" and "quality" are mutually-exclusive terms when it comes to parts for Mercedes Benz automobiles; you almost always get exactly what you pay for. And I despise eBay - lots of overppriced, poor quality parts and lots of sellers who either lie about their items or simply have no knowledge.

I just want to clarify, Pelican Parts has actually saved my butt on more than a couple occasions.
I own a 1990 300D, they had the diesel shut down valve for a fraction what the MB dealer listed as discontinued.
They had the correct pcv valve/tube, and window doors.
Okay shipping sucks, and so does converting usd into cad.
Rock Auto, amazon, ebay, have been decent as well.

I have tried most aftermarket brands (URO, Febi, Meyle, Lemfoerder) in my W123 and the only thing that didn’t work was an oil cap made by dt parts. Even the URO antenna mast is working properly after years of use. I really don’t have any complain about those parts. Most times the problem with aftermarket parts is the people installing them or the way the car is driven.

The URO "Green Wire" on 380SEL, 500SEL etc is just a mess. I went through two that didnt work right out of the box, and even after modifying and repairing, they STILL would only make the engine cough and sputter. It took going to a junkyard and getting a distributor from a wrecked car with a green wire that was original and falling apart to make the car run! Once we put that in, it ran flawlessly! Stay away from the URO GREEN WIRES!!!

Years ago, 1990's and before, you could walk into Mercedes Benz parts and order any part for any model year. They would order it for you from Germany and Europe. For the very older models the factory would reproduce the part.
