Showering three times a week isn't really practical in tropical countries. Where I'm from, people shower at least once a day. The sun is hot and the air is very humid. You will sweat a lot and will stink at the end of the day. Your skin will also feel sticky.

Well, there's a difference between showering with soap and without soap. Showering with soap makes your skin a lot drier and showering without soap will wash away the sweat as well...

I went through a deep depression a few years back. Like, seriously considering suicide type of depression. I stopped taking care of myself, which included not showering. Even after six weeks, no one complained of a smell and I didn't itch or feel soiled. I dunno, maybe I'm one of those rare people who just don't stink.
I used to work at the front desk for a centre. One day, an individual with unstable living conditions came in, and it was clear that he hadn't showered in a long time. I was able to smell him the second he walked in (the front desk was about 20 feet from the door), and he walked up to the desk, leaned over the desk, and spoke to me for several minutes. When he left, everyone who was at the centre complained about the smell, but it was no where near as bad as when he was basically in my face. I don't think I'll ever forget that smell. It's also why I think it's extremely important for there to be accessible, free, shower spaces available for homeless populations. People may think it's ridiculous, but imagine: If you had no access to getting clean, how could you try and improve your life? Your social interactions would be negatively impacted everywhere you go. Maybe because your body is used to you showering that often. I shower every other day, which sounds gross to a lot of people, but that's what I've found works best for me. (My hair alone takes like 12 hours to dry, I don't want to do that everyday lol)

After washing, rinse your face with cold water. And if you use only a regular soap which makes your skin dry, try to switch to some face cleaner or simply apply some cream.
Dude, I had major abdominal surgery and I was in such poor health that my wound wouldn't heal. I ended up not being able to shower for 6 months. I felt like I was going to go insane. Sponge baths are hella cold and they just aren't thorough.

Depends on where you are. As you said, in a tropical country or a hot country like india if you don’t shower you will have a ton of sweat on your body which doesn’t feel good, and if you don’t have the gene that stops steal having the proteins that cause smell, you are screwed.
Why is everyone getting worked up on people who only shower 1-2 times a week. If you can't handle it then don't. Edit - Everyone is different. It really all depends all their lifestyle on whether you stink or not. Whether you still inside or go outside, your body is different from others.

If you smell because of not showering, then shower. If you smell fine, shower every 2-3 days. Plus there're things like perfume and deodorant.
They seem to think that you're incredibly dirty for not showering an excessive amount. I shower one to two times a week and I'm always told I smell pleasant. Just clean yourself really well and apply deodorant like every other day. But I get a bonus- I don't produce bad body odor.
I think the concept is ideal for those who aren’t too active. During the fall and winter, I shower every few days, but during the spring and summer I shower almost daily because of the sweating. A construction worker will shower more often than someone who just sits around all day. :)
Actually people who go to school aren’t sitting around all day, people who have lives don’t just sit around all day. I don’t see how being a construction worker makes you superior to other people. If anything, it’s an average job that anyone can do if they learn how to do it. Honestly, I could go on and on about how many other jobs and CAREERS are better than a construction worker’s job and all that good stuff, but really, it doesn’t matter what you do, it’s how you do it that determines if you need to shower more than once a week.

You smell like a mad man because the body is producing the necessary oils faster when it gets used to you scrubbing it off every day or every few hours. Basically, when you started doing it for whatever reason, your body got used to it and now taking it easy would be really difficult. Victoria Graham No, dandruff has nothing to do with Hygiene at all. Dandruff is a bacteria that randomly grows on people's heads (50% of American's heads) for some random reason. Now dry scalp may be what you are referring to. Dry scalp can come from not showering or from showering the wrong way. In most cases, if you don't dry your hair completely, or you wash your hair with hot water, you will get a bunch of tiny white flakes. Dandruff is big flakes.
My dermatologist told me to start taking baths twice to three times a week because the water was drying out my skin so much that I started breaking out in eczema from it. *Such a fun life*
Seeing a lot of people commenting that they don't shower often and don't smell. Let me state categorically that you are WRONG. Your smell builds gradually over time, and your nose grows accustomed to it. Just because you can't smell yourself doesn't mean others can't. Same thing goes for people that just wash their pits if they get sweaty or other spotty washing methods. You are only dealing with the new smell your nose hasn't learned to filter out yet. Everyone else can still smell you. That being said, this video isn't entirely correct either and ignores one very important part of the health effects. The human immune system is a learning system. If you have lived for a long time without bathing frequently your body is more than capable of shrugging off those bacteria. Of course this wouldn't apply to someone who has always showered frequently but due to sudden depression or any other sudden change just stopped bathing.
I wouldn't doubt some anomalies can go fairly long periods of time without showering while also not smelling horrible, as some people tend to not be very odorous.
It is simply a fallacy that "some people tend not to be very odorous". The main reason someone could believe this is another example of people forgetting that your nose is fallible and learns to filter out specific smells when experienced too often. Spend a lot of time around someone who rarely showers and eventually you stop smelling them, they did NOT stop stinking however. There is also not an infinite variation on body odors. People who stink like you don't smell bad specifically to you.

No but I can use the argument that their relatives either don't see them that often or were reluctant to say anything about their smell. I went through over half of my high school years without a single shower, and in the just over two years I didn't bathe in any fashion not one person ever spoke to me about my smell. I live in southern Georgia where in December we have days that top 90 degrees Fahrenheit, and went just over 2 years where the closest I came to bathing was washing my hands or wiping the condiments out of my beard. It should go without saying I wasn't the most popular guy in school, but the surprising bit is that nobody said anything to me at all. I already knew I stank and couldn't have cared less, and even was amused by the fact nobody ever mentioned it. They found every other excuse in the book to pick on me but never mentioned my smell. Anyone that thinks they can go long periods without bathing and not stink is delusional. This isn't something I'm guessing about, I've personally experienced it. The vast majority of people are very reluctant to mention when they find someone else's odor unpleasant. My above example was more than a little extreme, and during that time I never sought out anyone else's company, least of all my family. In the once or twice a month they were within a few feet of me and smelled me, maybe they thought they had just caught me at a bad time or were reluctant to make me want to stop spending even that small amount of time with them. It's not something I've ever asked them about since then so I'm only guessing on the why of their lack of response. As I've gotten older I've gotten marginally more interested in personal hygiene but most people would likely be disgusted to hear that it is still quite common for me to go a few months between showers. I never leave the house really and couldn't care less what people that aren't here to smell me would think. I do not however delude myself into thinking I don't smell. If I'm going to go out in public, or know someone's coming over I will bathe. Well most of the time at least...

Once a week for me is enough. I’m not a huge fan of being wet due to having eczema. I only even do it once a week in the summer. In winter my house is freezing so I only clean vital parts with soap water and a flannel
But what if you were to "clean" yourself in another way? Would dirt/ sand baths work on people like they do with animals? And if they did, would it be enough to remove the dead skin? Basically, I mean: Could a human go without showering for a long time if they used an alternative method to remove the dead skin, like taking a sand bath?
Just shower once a day, taking two showers a day can be expensive in water and shampoo + wash, unless you have like some sport or P.E. Then you should only take a shower once a day
I shower every day only because of school, but not on Friday. I shower every other day during and breaks only because I feel dirty and my hair looks nasty.
I think this video would definitely benefit from adding information on showering based on other circumstances. Showering 2/3 times a week in a colder climate with minimal physical exertion might (I don't know I haven't been there/done that) suffice to keep you hygienic and be best for your health. BUT living in far North Queensland Australia, having an active lifestyle and working with grills and fry vats it would be very detrimental if i showered at that frequency. Two showers feels adequate to be clean for work and to keep sheets clean. It's hard when some days you can wake up in a literal puddle of sweat. I think that the best advice would be to bathe as often as you need to feel clean and hygienic, try to save water where possible and remember different climates/occupations may need different levels of self care.

Harrison Howick I agree, and also depends on how polluted your location is, when I lived in China I had to have a shower every day before bed because of the dirt that stuck to my skin sometimes I showered more than once a day, now I live in the quiet suburbs of London and showering just 3 times a week or even less is completely fine.

I think the concept is ideal for those who aren’t too active. During the fall and winter, I shower every few days, but during the spring and summer I shower almost daily because of the sweating.
A construction worker will shower more often than someone who just sits around all day. :)

If anything, it’s an average job that anyone can do if they learn how to do it. Honestly, I could go on and on about how many other jobs and CAREERS are better than a construction worker’s job and all that good stuff, but really, it doesn’t matter what you do, it’s how you do it that determines if you need to shower more than once a week.

You smell like a mad man because the body is producing the necessary oils faster when it gets used to you scrubbing it off every day or every few hours. Basically, when you started doing it for whatever reason, your body got used to it and now taking it easy would be really difficult.

Now dry scalp may be what you are referring to. Dry scalp can come from not showering or from showering the wrong way. In most cases, if you don't dry your hair completely, or you wash your hair with hot water, you will get a bunch of tiny white flakes. Dandruff is big flakes.

Seeing a lot of people commenting that they don't shower often and don't smell. Let me state categorically that you are WRONG. Your smell builds gradually over time, and your nose grows accustomed to it. Just because you can't smell yourself doesn't mean others can't. Same thing goes for people that just wash their pits if they get sweaty or other spotty washing methods. You are only dealing with the new smell your nose hasn't learned to filter out yet. Everyone else can still smell you.
That being said, this video isn't entirely correct either and ignores one very important part of the health effects. The human immune system is a learning system. If you have lived for a long time without bathing frequently your body is more than capable of shrugging off those bacteria. Of course this wouldn't apply to someone who has always showered frequently but due to sudden depression or any other sudden change just stopped bathing.
I wouldn't doubt some anomalies can go fairly long periods of time without showering while also not smelling horrible, as some people tend to not be very odorous.
It is simply a fallacy that "some people tend not to be very odorous". The main reason someone could believe this is another example of people forgetting that your nose is fallible and learns to filter out specific smells when experienced too often. Spend a lot of time around someone who rarely showers and eventually you stop smelling them, they did NOT stop stinking however. There is also not an infinite variation on body odors. People who stink like you don't smell bad specifically to you.

No but I can use the argument that their relatives either don't see them that often or were reluctant to say anything about their smell. I went through over half of my high school years without a single shower, and in the just over two years I didn't bathe in any fashion not one person ever spoke to me about my smell. I live in southern Georgia where in December we have days that top 90 degrees Fahrenheit, and went just over 2 years where the closest I came to bathing was washing my hands or wiping the condiments out of my beard. It should go without saying I wasn't the most popular guy in school, but the surprising bit is that nobody said anything to me at all. I already knew I stank and couldn't have cared less, and even was amused by the fact nobody ever mentioned it. They found every other excuse in the book to pick on me but never mentioned my smell. Anyone that thinks they can go long periods without bathing and not stink is delusional.
This isn't something I'm guessing about, I've personally experienced it. The vast majority of people are very reluctant to mention when they find someone else's odor unpleasant. My above example was more than a little extreme, and during that time I never sought out anyone else's company, least of all my family. In the once or twice a month they were within a few feet of me and smelled me, maybe they thought they had just caught me at a bad time or were reluctant to make me want to stop spending even that small amount of time with them. It's not something I've ever asked them about since then so I'm only guessing on the why of their lack of response.
As I've gotten older I've gotten marginally more interested in personal hygiene but most people would likely be disgusted to hear that it is still quite common for me to go a few months between showers. I never leave the house really and couldn't care less what people that aren't here to smell me would think. I do not however delude myself into thinking I don't smell. If I'm going to go out in public, or know someone's coming over I will bathe. Well most of the time at least...

I think this video would definitely benefit from adding information on showering based on other circumstances. Showering 2/3 times a week in a colder climate with minimal physical exertion might (I don't know I haven't been there/done that) suffice to keep you hygienic and be best for your health. BUT living in far North Queensland Australia, having an active lifestyle and working with grills and fry vats it would be very detrimental if i showered at that frequency. Two showers feels adequate to be clean for work and to keep sheets clean. It's hard when some days you can wake up in a literal puddle of sweat.
I think that the best advice would be to bathe as often as you need to feel clean and hygienic, try to save water where possible and remember different climates/occupations may need different levels of self care.
