Or the cheat technique could be to get your bpm as close as possible to your 4 bar loop, and then apply Stretch. If you're close anyway, the algos won't mash the sonics of the loop too bad.
@@nervouscooks That was a long bit of slow audio though, so over 4 bars it may make it sound like bad, early Ableton Live warping, I don't know. Probably safer to use this technique with 1 or 2 bar, and/or faster material. And again, requires an accurate start & end point edit as possible, to eliminate unwanted stretching and squashing.
@@thekeysman6760 to be fair Koalas time stretching isn’t too bad. It’s not (new) Ableton good but it would get you by in a pinch. I very rarely time stretch or use straight up loops but someone asked if I could explain it. I’m sure there is probably loads more options to work it out. That’s what I love about being on here though is that we can all share advice and techniques. I’ve learnt a lot just from the comments 👍🙂
@@nervouscooks Of course, your chop was perfect because you included that last little off-beat 16th. If somebody had cut that beat and told koala it was 4 bars, it will make up for that missing 16th by stretching either over the whole lot or maybe just from the last beat, I'm not sure. Either way, the first algo of the 4 which is the one that changes the character the least, will mess up the sample in some way that sounds bad. Timing, tone, artifacts. Unless you want that early Ableton sound!
For anyone who doesn't know, the benefits after stretching are pitching the sample whilst retaining tempo, (and doing some resampling!), and changing project bpm whilst staying synchronised.
You’re a legend my G, I’m new to beat making and utilize Koala, love the flow of how you teach the art form, and your tutorials may be the best on UA-cam… 💯💯💯
thanks for the lesson, you learn so much! in a tutorial you explained that you can use the stretch function to adjust it to the nearest bpm. I use it a lot when recording guitar for my lofi songs🙏👍
When all else fails, resample the loop 1,2, or 3 times with the Cutter Fx, add Reverb and Delay, and use the loop as an Fx. Some samples have tricky cadences that begin at the end of a bar. So sometimes I set the number of bars I want in a sequence and ramp the tempo up or down until it loops seamlessly (or nearly so). At this point I might apply time stretch.
Hey man, thanks for these tutorials! If don't mind, please imagine I have just 4 samples for a song I'm playing with my band live, and the band is playing the song faster or slower than usual, and I wanna trigger each sample one at a time but at the correct tempo for the song.. is there any way I can tap the tempo we are playing just once and then trigger any of the 4 samples at any point during the song and have them play at the right tempo? (I mean, I'd like to avoid tapping the tempo more than once for each song). Btw, I won't be needing any looping for this kind of thing.. thanks!
@@giovannifranzetti6214 the only way I can think of is to time stretch each sample. That way they should adjust as the tempo changes but as always time stretching may introduce unwanted artefacts into the sound. You can find it in the edit window by choke. Hit stretch then a red bar appears above the sample. Click that to change the time stretch settings.
@@nervouscooks Thank you sooo much! I was able to achieve what I wanted, and although I expected some artefacts, I still sounds pretty decent especially since the band is not going to drag or rush more than 10% of the original tempo anyways.. AND I could not have done this without your help, thank youuuu!
Thank you so much man, now, please allow me to bother you one last time with a simple question (it's the last one I promise you), just yes or no, no instructions asked: do you think I'll be able to assign the tap tempo function button to an external midi controller connected via bluetooth? If yes I'll find the way
i have a question about pitch. if you increase the pitch, does it mess with the temp of the song? and if so, how do you adjust it to where it fits? thank you so much

Yeah that’s a good point. You can definitely stretch without too many issues if it’s close! 👍

Great video! I'm assuming the overlays over those numbers are just for art effect? If not, please say more!!!!!
Thank you. Very helpful.
Need some lush beats on this sample. Waiting for the next video! 😉
You use the "snare" for the count?

No Android skins?? :-(

How can I make my Koala display look like that on Android?
It’s a custom skin that I made but unfortunately I only have them for the iPad 12.9 and 11 currently. 🙂

what is that sample though 😮
Dude's will see 69 BPM and think... HELL YEAH
👍👍👍
Super interesting. Thanks a lot
Just multiply the tempo if you use the metronome technique.
Koala is a show but there is a problem with every project it saves only in audio, it should have an option to save in video
Just take a screen recording
