I received this bottle last week and put it into my monthly whiskey/cigar club blind on Friday. It scored so poorly, by everyone there, that it qualifies as a drain pour. Luckily people want to try it in the community, so I've been able to send out multiple samples. This might be my biggest regret purchase of 2024. I can't wait to use the bottle as a decanter lol.
I believe that is called "Damning by faint praise." The definition should be amended to be, "To damn by faint praise is to point out that something is actually mediocre or worse by praising it in ways that make its weaknesses clear, as in 'Well, it's better than Traveler.'"
This is a MGP 3 year rye class 142, then aged for another year in Sherry casks, hence no legal requirement for an age statement which is legally required for CL142 ryes. It is bottled by Still Austin and Giant since there is not such Company named Hogue Distilling in TX.
@@TheMashandDrumthe bottle costs are usually not that expensive as the marketing team makes it sound like.. I have had some "luxury" to see limited edition glass costs.
One of the better Ryes I’ve had. Blended very well, with outspoken notes of spice, plums, and oak. Sips much hotter than the proof point….Don’t allow your hate for the artist to discriminate against your palate. Good pour
Thanks for the review Jason! I'm always looking to keep a good low proof whiskey offering for guests to explore, other than the standard flavored Crown Royal expressions. Enthusiasts should embrace these intro offerings as a draw for young palates. We should never forget where we started. That being said, we should occasionally put our own preferences aside to bring more people into American whiskey.
I was able to try this at a duty free at the airport. Granted, it was a tiny sample, but I found it spiky and incoherent. It's not terrible, but it would have trouble keeping up with some $30 bottles.
I put this against TX Blended Whiskey(not bourbon).. for the taste & with the sweetness on it.. The first thing occurred to me for a taste comparison. Then I thought to compare it against Angel's Envy Rye but AE Rye has more Rye character..
NOT Crazy In Love.... The back story sounded very exaggerated to me when I saw the press release. Thank you Sir for confirming our suspicions about this bottle!!
Listening to your review with a glass of Sagamore cask strength rye, it's about half the price of Sir Davis so I can afford to buy a horsey to glue to the bottle.
Thanks for the heads up with this so we don't have to "Put a ring on it" (as if celebrity products like this is worth the time). Would not surprise me a bit if a "Swifty" Bourbon pops out somewhere....The sour note, is likely coming from the sherry cask that has started fermenting into vinegar since it has been emptied for some time.
I wish the celebrities would stay out of this game. For $60 we have awesome choices from 40 other brands/distilleries. Please go back to your million-dollar homes and let us enjoy a quiet evening with our awesome bourbons.
"I don't think it's not that bad" is more than enough to not consider buying this. That said, l would passed this buy without a second look knowing it's a 88 proof celebrity whiskey.
rye finished in sherry emulating a japanese whiskey… that sounds confused from the get-go. no thanks to both the bottle contents and the celebrity product branding.
Yeah, I'm surprised that there aren't any easier ways to get a tax write off! It would seem as though charities would have been better beneficiaries of any such investment.
Negative on tbis one. But thanks for reviewing it. Even if it is decent for what it is, for the price point and all it can offer, cash grab in my view.
This one is not for me, but I probably will see it at some friend's house because their wife thought it was delicious, but we all know it's because of Beyoncé.
I wondered how this compared to other whiskeys with the same mashbill. As far as I could find, there are Smoke Wagon Malted Rye and Rossvile Union 6yr BiB Rye that are both 51% rye / 49% barley. Not that I was going to buy Sir Davis, but curious how it compares with others. This just smells like a cash grab. Use her grandfather's story to pull at some heart strings and give it some apparent legitimacy. Out of curiosity, I tried to find a video of Beyonce talking about it herself and even drinking whiskey, but it is impossible to find. I couldn't find a single video. Doesn't seem like she really cares. Just a way to make a buck off being famous.
Dude, I could watch Beyonce get me a glass of water from my own kitchen sink with a glass I'd cleaned myself, and I still would not drink it. Wake up, man. Beyonce is in league, bro. If you don't know what that means, you need to find out and steer clear. Promoting things like this is not a good idea.
Thanks for trying it so we don't have to

Same with the whiskey club I’m in. It was double blinded and the highest score it got from the group is 1 out of 5. Just not good.
SLB did this one last week. The best thing Kurt had to say about it was that it was better than Traveler.
@@chipgar63 that's about right. Lol. I agree.

How did you get sucked in? Haven't seen a good review about this yet. Great looking bottle is were it stops.
Even if the juice is not 1/2 bad, for $90, this is a money grab. Maybe for $50.
@@carlosc9127 yeah for 50 id like it. I have a feeling that bottle was pricey to make though.
Unbelievable that Beyonce married a Brooklyn drug dealer.
Yep, this being $90 will keep me from getting it. Watered down 88 proof, and probably super young, no thanks.

It's so good
Great review. It seems like many want to hate it, but I’m still a little curious about something Dr. Bill would put his name on.
Thanks for the review. At $90 for low proof, high barley whiskey didn't sound like a buy in the 1st place. Your review helped.
Thanks for the review! Good call on the sour note, I just reviewed this one as well and was trying to figure out that sharp note that stood out.🥃
Was never going to buy it but I appreciate you taking the time to review.

Hard pass for me @ $90.

Enjoyed the standalone review, Jason! Suggestion for the next livestream top 5: Top 5 Worst Celebrity Whiskies.
Time to change that hat after next weekend, we’re looking for a comeback win. Who dat 🤘
Great review, Jason! 🥃Not a Beyoncé fan but read that she drinks Hibiki whiskey so was intrigued about this bottle!

Good video 👍
"Single Barrels (Put a Cork In It)"... her next hit? 😂

I'm curious to try even if just for the interesting mashbill.
Pinky out and a suit jacket…so you know it has to be good 😂
Are you paying $90 for it? I'm not, can find 3 $30 bottles that are much better.
Can’t wait to see what Taylor Swift comes out with
Yeah, no thank you!
Yup, Ain’t going to happen!
Jason i bet if you put this up in a blind 75% of the people knocking it would probably like it.
The bar for celebrity whiskey is so low. 😂
You bringing this to the share?
@@debrac3032 I might.
Maybe a pour at a bar but I agree for $90 bucks no way!!
$80 bottle-$10 juice 😉🥱

Yeah what a contrived story.
I would get it at 50, maybe 60 to try it and share it. But 90? Pass.
Fans of Beyoncé? Will they even drink it? The bottle looks nice for a reason. For sitting on a shelf.
Couldn't pay me to drink that.

This is for Beyonce's fans and fans of sweet whiskey. I am neither, so this is a skip and it's not a tough decision.
Its not a straight rye, so it could be 2.5% flavoring and just some young cheap mgp for all we know.
Whatt!!! You bought that?……😂😂😂
