    A friend from church has a shop kind of like your's (their building was a 3 bay garage for a building crew)... that they turned into one half storage for lawn mowers, and garden tools. The other half they turned into a crafty type of area and she would hold once a month scrapbooking evening for us church ladies to get together and scrapbook photo albums. They also allowed people to have birthday celebrations in it (because they didn't have room in their homes). She homeschooled her children and they also had other homeschool families come together for science projects. Love following Acre Homestead and now will be watching for your projects that you come up with to do in your new building!!! Thanks for sharing your journey!!!

      Hi Arlene! I'm looking forward to having friends over to do crafts together in that space. I love the ideas of birthday parties in there! Thank you for watching.

    Looking forward to seeing what you two put together. My suggestion is lighting and more lighting, did I mention lighting, as well as better-than-sufficient ventilation are key for a successful and useful outbuilding. You've already mentioned you plan to have lots of electrical outlets, so you're good to go.

    I happy to have just discovered your channel thanks to Becky. It just so happens that my husband just retired and is planning to build a new outbuilding on our small acreage. We are in the planning stages and it was helpful that you shared your thought process in figuring what size. I'm looking forward to checking out that "sweethome 3D" software. Fun Times!

    Just catching up on all your videos, love them by the way. My suggestion is to make an area for a small kitchenette so you don’t have to go inside your main house for drinks and refrigerated items. Also, a powder room. We have done somewhat of the same thing and these things have come in handy when building them out. I have a space, my husband has a space, and we have a small kitchen which we also use as adjacent to our outdoor cooking area and a order room. Hugs and love from Texas!

      We have been thinking about putting in an outdoor kitchen in the back yard. Would be fun when we have all of the kids over, for sure!

    So glad Becky told us about your channel. Looking forward to watching you plan then use your she shed. I’m planning a craft area for the first time and I’m so excited but unsure what this will look like.

      Yeah, I've never had a dedicated space, so this is all new to me! I may just sit in my chair and twirl around in it for a while... ;)

    Love that "give a mouse a cookie" Are you planning plumbing for the barn? If so you may want to incorporate a sewage connection for the eventual Camper. Just a Thought.

      @hesaid-sheshed  Рік тому +1

      Hi Sharon! I'm glad you understood that reference - it's the story of my life!!
      We opted to not add any plumbing to the barn. If we decide to in the future, we definitely will add a connector for a camper. Even if it is just so my parents can park their motorhome here for extended visits.

    We are limited to 250sf to be a shed, anything over that will be considered a detached garage and will then have taxes and insurance to deal with. Hubby thinks 250 is enough and I want to go bigger. We live in a neighborhood so we don't have too much room to go bigger but I guess my first step would be to ask how much our taxes and insurance will go up if we go bigger. We will put an A/C unit, insulation and paneling so we can have climate controlled storage and when I'm out there working I won't sweat too bad. We are in South Florida so A/C is a MUST..LOl! I have your frame of mind, if we need more space in the future, we have it.

    • @hesaid-sheshed
      @hesaid-sheshed  Рік тому

      Since we insulated the ceiling and walls, it stays relatively cool in there in the summer and holds heat with just a space heater in the winter. We have some pretty hot and cold days here, but most of the time, it's pretty moderate.
      Yeah... you would be miserable without A/C!

    That is an awesome shed/barn. Looking forward to the journey ahead watching what you both do with the space. In regards to the shipping containers, people are building magnificent homes in Australia with them particularly in our bushfire prone regions. An there is a company in Queensland that make Shipping Container Pools with various sized containers. Basically all contained in the container so no fencing required. They arrive on the back of a truck lift into place power connected fill with water and ready to swim in. If we get to move to larger land on rural location we will definitely be getting one. We live in suburbia on quarter acre at the moment.

      I know the kids would love it if we put in a pool. Definitely have the space for it. Had not thought of creating one out of a shipping container though! Pretty amazing how people repurpose them. We may have to add this to our list... ;)

    Love the new channel! We live in SW WA as well and are looking to build a similar "barn." Are you willing to share what the cost was and who your contractor was?

    • @hesaid-sheshed
      @hesaid-sheshed  Рік тому

      Hello Amy! The build cost was between $60K - $70K. Regrettably the contractor we used was very challenging to work with so I don't feel right about sending you in their direction. I'm glad you got something out of this video. Thanks for watching!

    Love the Oshkosh shirt. Is there a story behind it?

    • @hesaid-sheshed
      @hesaid-sheshed  Рік тому

      Hi! Very observant of you to notice the shirt! Oshkosh has a special place in my heart, peggystrey. I grew up in Iowa around a lot of general aviation. I was lucky enough to have a handful of cherished pilgrimages to Oshkosh with my dad in those years to the big annual EAA airshow the that happens there. Much later in life, I worked for a company that makes headsets for pilots for about five years. That job entailed some very nostalgic trips to Oshkosh/Whitman Airfield as well since that company was an exhibitor at the show.
