My best freezer organization strategy yet!
Hi! This video is one of several that were originally created with the intent to release it on a different channel dedicated to the topic of cooking, preserving, gardening and the like. Ultimately, the reality set in that we didn't have the bandwidth to launch that second channel so we've decided to share those "Real Food With Renee" episodes with you here on He Said She Shed.
If you're interested in more backstory on the channel that almost was, check out our recent video here: ua-cam.com/video/NtcZ9gxpn38/v-deo.html
I hope you enjoy today's freezer overhaul and making dinner from the treasures we find along the way.

Once a year I pull everything out of my deep freezer and take stock of what is hiding in its depths. Then, I make, and often can soup with what I find. It's different every year, but I love looking for ways to reduce food waste.
This year, I am taking steps to do a complete inventory of what I have by adding it to a whiteboard. It may not seem super-creative, but I was really surprised at how much I had of certain foods. I highly recommend this system. Just be sure to update the whiteboard when you add to or take from your inventory.
The shopping boxes make all the difference in keeping everything organized and accessible. I found mine on Amazon: amzn.to/4eh9OzV

Backyard fire pit gets major upgrade!
Переглядів 1,4 тис.8 місяців тому
Greetings friends! Today's DIY build is pretty self explanatory. At our previous house, we had this great little, store bought, metal fire ring platform. While we had a back yard, it was small and it never occurred to us to build out a more elaborate fire pit. Here on this property we found an irresistible spot that was just begging for some sort of area to gather and relax. We landed on a circ...

You may recall a few prior videos that are centered on Renee's love for gardening. To date, we've just had a few raised beds next to the back of the house but there is little we could grow there due to the menace of deer that cross our property. A legit, grown up garden with a fence around it has been on our agenda well before even purchasing this particular property. This dream is finally real...

I love your video. I also use the same boxes to organize my freezer. I love the fact you have a chest freezer. As far as I know chest freezers are the only ones that are Not frost free. Frost free really shortens the life/quality of food. The processer we use shrink wraps our beef- love that- says less you move the packages around the better. So the boxes are wonderful. Although when I was starting out I used the reusable shopping bags. It was a great stand in since then I’ve upgraded to the boxes. Great video for visual learners like me lol. 😊

Freezer soup was a good idea! I have two big freezers I need to clean out. Summer is a good time to do that, they will defrost more quickly(I don’t have frost-free freezers, as they freezer burn food more quickly). The soup looked really good! I think I would want some kind of protein in it myself.

Hi Cynthia! I actually filmed this a few months ago and I’m excited because I’ve done a really good job reducing what’s in there. There was quite a bit of meat left on the turkey carcass so it had a good amount of protein in it. I try to make a soup like this once a quarter to keep things under control. 😂

I’m impressed with all the things you found to do with your zucchini surplus! I love the low carb ideas, as I was recently diagnosed with high blood sugar, so I’m trying to eat a lower carb diet. I prefer yellow squash to zucchini, so I will try using that for the crust. I wonder if it would be a good idea to melt some of the cheese on the crust before adding the sauce to keep it from getting soggy? I love the canning and I love the frugal tips!
