Peter I have been a part of your viewership since you had 40K subscribers. You are the reason why I was motivated enough to make videos using my smartphone and not worry about the camera. Thank you for being there on UA-cam, Thank you for inspiring.
Spot on, guy. There are others on the UA-cam that rave about having the best equipment, and make you feel inferior if you are not in full manual mode. Well guess what? The best camera is the one you have in your hand, and the best shot is the one you went out and got.
He said all these 5years ago and It is still very good and helpful for those of us that are just starting and for us that just found the channel🥺🥺🥺 God bless you Peter!
a KODAK go sports camera, i think what it was called. 2008ish? it looked like a cell phone. it was cheap, I used what I had haha. It was white and could go underwater :)
A huge force in your video Peter, thanks to you I started shooting short videos, began to generate new ideas for shooting video and photos. Want to say a big thank you and keep it up!
5:45 watched this next one min over a 100 times! Everytime when I am feeling down that no one sees my artwork I came here and seen this one min that makes me feel alot better thanks Peter!

That is so true on what you mentioned about things not working out, despite all the hardwork. I can attest to that, you try all these things and wanting to go in a certain direction. You try blogging about it, announcing it everywhere and doing a few free shoots just to get some work out there and nothing happens with it. Then something weird happens, when you don't try, somehow it lands on your table . FREE work! With our line of work, its a long game, what you do, doesn't necessary bare fruit, but may translate into something else down the road in the future. It can be discouraging sometimes, but i swear, I got some other types of work, because they saw some of my other work elsewhere not related. Its all about doing the work and being patient, which i have to constantly remind myself.
I live in Cali about a 9 hr drive away from Antelope Canyon and have taken 2 road trips there now. It is one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen. The hike tour is a about 1.5 hrs on off season but can be about 3 during the busy season. You MUST go! And check out the many many other beautiful landscapes in the nearby Utah and Arizona region!
Thankyou. I can already feel the moments coming down the line where I've given everything and seemingly gotten nowhere, even though I'm just starting out, I've felt it before with other things. Your earnest words clearly spoken from experience are something I'll keep in my inner tactical camera bag
Peter, I needed to hear this more than anything. The part where you say don't stop no matter what... Man I needed that. I'm hitting a million road blocks so definitely needed to hear that you've been there. Thanks man keep it up
I used that first song at 0:57 in a recent video. So when I was watching this I had to check all my tabs to find out why it started playing in the background lol. Unintentional "gotcha" from Peter McKinnon always appreciated.
The Detherage Dialect man, your videos are pretty good. I really liked the "It's the small things in life...". What's the name of the song you and Peter both used in your videos?
Tattoo video, yes. Would love an in depth video about what you need to look for in a camera for photography and for filming, both separate and combined, to help make a decision. As in stabilization, megapixels, shutter speed and whatever.
Awesome stuff, man. Really love that audio of the guys saying letters and numbers ;) Had a great time shooting with you two yesterday, let's do it again sometime!
TOM DELONGE YES!! I would absolutely LOVE to see you work with Tom/Angels and Airwaves/To The Stars or anything that he has been a part of. I already love what you're doing with David Kennedy, his band mate, and his coffee company!
I legit lost my shit laughing when he said "Here's another question I get asked all the time: will you switch to sony? no." he literally took his time with almost all the questions and he dropped this answer within a millisecond and moved on 😂
Hell Yeah, Peter McKinnon! Dude, your channel is so incredibly refreshing and an absolute blessing to photography. Not only do I love your work, but I love your mindset and outlook on life. Keep being awesome, as this industry needs you more than ever. I love MY camera. Not because it's a Nikon, but because its mine and the two of us create really cool stuff together. I know it like the back of my hand. And when it eventually breaks, I'll be sad. I totally get it man.
My favorite moments that made me lol: 11:59 "Where I look at a Sony camera and I feel like I'm coding a new script to put into a rocket ship." 4:19 "No. I just wanna go home." Love you Peter, keep up the phenomenal work!
Pete, I can't wait to see you reach the one mill milestone :) You are such an inspiration for so many of you subscribers. You are so genuine in your videos, and that is awesome. Best of luck sir!
I wish I was popular enough to have people ask me enough questions that I can post Q&A vids lol. Honestly, that is one thing that I'd love to do. Jon Olssen, You, Casey Neistat all do them and love them. Informative and inspiring! BTW, your volume / gain is all over the place.
I'm from Newfoundland! just a little ways over from you! I've really gotten into film making and producing the past year and I keep trying to better my knowledge on the subject and keep practicing! This is the first time in my life that I've finally found something that I'm passionate about! I've recently just found your channel about a month ago and can't stop watching your awesome work. Just wanted to say how big of an inspiration your work is on me and how much you're videos have taught me in just a short amount of time!! You keep inspiring me to improve on my videos!! Cheers! from one Canadian to another!! :)
Hi Peter, antelope canyon was an amazing adventure. It was also hot, dusty, frantic, very very crowded, and very managed. You can't just go through by yourself, you have to go with a tour. The photography tour is worth it though, the tour guides all know the best camera settings and the timing of the light for each room and make sure you get the shots you came for. We had 2 guides and they would clear rooms for us, kick the other tours out of the picture, toss shovels of sand into the light rays so you get the lovely reflected and scattered light onto the walls. Note that this was the upper canyon tour. You might want to do both upper and lower. Someday I will go back and do them both again. For 2 extreme introverts with a major dislike of crowds, we had a blast. There are a bunch of fantastic parks in that general area too. This year I plan to go to zion.
You're right about the snowball effect, I've recently started getting into photography and I'm absolutely addicted to it, using my s8 at the moment and I'm to get a camera soon but I'm in no rush (aka I don't have the cash😂😂)
Adam. C same boat as you right now. Buying an 80d in June because I'll be free then to use it. How is the pro mode. I always use it and I use lightroom (mobile version).
Pete, your content is so motivating and inspiring-after waiting 10+ years for the right time to invest in a DSLR, I finally went for it and got an 80D. Best decision ever. It literally forces me to view the world differently every day, and there is so much to learn. It's an amazing journey.
As for what camera to buy. Go to your local camera shop and rent one for a couple of days (Leo's camera in Vancouver rents), Try your top 3 or whatever. You can also rent lenses. It's super cheap. Try before you buy. You could save yourself a ton of money.
The relentless tip is the most helpful thing I've heard in my whole life. I have just started getting into paid photography this year and I 100% agree with how discouraging it can be. I work with restaurants and rarely even getting a "thank you" becomes discouraging. I even struggle the get the restaurants to pay me they just put it off and off. Recently I got asked by a restaurant to do their work cause they think I'm better than the photographer they have but they want to offer me less money to do better work for them?? It all becomes very stressful but like you said, I remain relentless and tell myself all the time that one day good will come!
I stumbled across a Peter Lik gallery in Cairns, Australia in 2008 and it was at that moment i realised photography could be so powerful, intense and awesome! That guy is unreal.
You should be brewing on a scale so you can keep track of the amount of water you are adding into the grounds. And the amount that stays into the grounds as you pull the filter. keeping track of these numbers will help you adjust your grind size and pouring speed
First was an old Sony point and shoot. More recently I picked up my first DSLR, and went against the grain with a Nikon D3400. Seems like the Rebels are super popular (and for good reason) but I really liked the value you get with the Nikon and I haven’t been disappointed yet. Always great to watch your vlogs (even a year later).
How did you mount that (presumably) GoPro on the wing of that plane? I have a friend who flies a plane and I would love to get a shot like that @PeterMckinnon
Be relentless, keep at it. What great advice! Every youtuber can identify with that feeling of getting no traction. Keep at it. We love your videos! ❤️
Every single time a "Peter McKinnon" episode notification pops on my phone, I make sure I'm in a quite area, headphones on and a 100% focused! This guy! Thank you Peter for being the best version of who you are! You inspire me so much and make me a better creator. Sending you kick ass vibes God bless! :)
thx peter i sent u this massage one and half year ago , am a creative multimedia graudation student ,and coz of u i left my job in a car charag ,since that time i still struggling with my new plan to get bk to wat am loving to do(create videos and take photo ) , but am thankful to u to be the reason .
struggling these days and your words help a lot. i shall keep trying! despite the fact I dont have money and no one hasn't hired me for a part time job still. ♡
Although I never expected a Q&A, these questions came at the right time. I just graduated high school and all of these thoughts have been getting to my mind about starting my career, and your answers really helped push me to start hustling my ass on this journey. Thank you Peter for your constant positive attitude and sick ass content, keep doing what you're doing bro!
i came across your videos looking at adobe tutorials... i subscribed on the spot. why? because I've learned soo much so far. trust me on this; you never stop learning. I've been shooting since high school, and I am now 59. the best thing about your videos is that you follow the KISS rule (Keep It Simple Stupid). you are a natural teacher.
I ask two simple questions when people ask me this ... 1. What is it you want to achieve with the equipment? 2. What is your budget? I usually end up recommending the entry-level Canon (T6/T7) kit because most people just want to learn and then upgrade later.
So relate to the gopro thing. Last time I used one was to find an oil leak that was in a strange place on a tractor. Before that, on my phantom 2. Now they sit in my camera bag
Peter, I came across your channel earlier this week and I'm a huge fan of what you're creating! You've certainly helped/inspired my work a lot in such a short time. Oh Canada baby!!
Antilope is beautiful. Definitely worth the trip. Be sure to get a tour at the right time so you can see the beams. And bring a fast enough lens (at least f2.8)
Hey Peter! My names Skyler I'm a 16 year old cancer survivor and have an aching passion for a cinematography and photography, (I had ALL) (Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia) (T-cell blood cancer) Ever since I was like 6 I had always been into cameras, I loved the idea of using my imagination and capturing it on moving picture for everyone else to see! I figured you would be interested in checking out my 'portfolio'. I recently made a new account specifically for my work I post mostly photos but am starting to post some 60 second cinematic videos. I own a pretty decent camera (if your wondering it's the Canon 70D). I also own The Phantom 4 Drone. Anyways... I post daily, I've been busy with finals at school so it's been a while but I will be going on a road trip soon to capture some pretty sweet Cinematography. I love your ideas of adding B-roll into your Vlogs, I am thinking about doing that! Your videos are insanely inspiring.... I, Can Not! Wait, to go shoot some soon. Anyways... I hope you have a good rest of your Day! My Instagram ~ @elemental_cinema_and_photo My cancer page (if some of you don't believe) @Skyler'sLeukemiaJourney // Facebook And my UA-cam 'Sky'sVlogs'
I love your view on not being the best. You really inspire me to keep going, even though my cinematography teacher often says my works aren't good, because it's not what he would do. Well, i don't care. Just like my other class mates say, do it your own way :)
hey Peter McKinnon i just want to say thanks for those vids I have been watching for 3 weeks long and really like the way you do vids and improve them every time I see a new one I learn something different from you, big Thanks!!
Come on Peter! You know you're one of the best out there! You're one of the people who inspired me to give this vlogging thing a try. Keep up the great work.
Dear Peter, I am a small "youtuber" with around 90 subs. I've lost around 13 subs in 1 day and I don't know why. Maybe you have some tips that I could use to grow a little more😄
dude, i just want to say that you are such an inspiration to me. I've watched liked every single one of your videos and its crazy how much you remind me of myself, even though you're definitely older (im 20), lol. I love photography, so thank you so much for your awesome videos and your amazing contribution to the culture. who you are, and what you do is what I envision as success in this industry, i hope to one day be like you - not in a weird way, but yeah you get what i mean :D
I use teh EOS M50 Mark II as its light and EF-M canon lenses are light and easy to carry. My small colelction fo elsnes fits in a small shoulder bag. Peter could not have been more right when saying that the ideal camera varies person by person.
@Peter McKinnon my first camera was a Canon EOS 1000D. This was way back in 2009 or something but then progressed to 550D and finally a 70D. Been a Canon guy all along just like yourself!
I've learned more about making a quality video from your channel then anywhere else. You are the man, your content amazing and I thankyou for inspiring me to continue to learn and grow in this field!
Peter I have been a part of your viewership since you had 40K subscribers. You are the reason why I was motivated enough to make videos using my smartphone and not worry about the camera.
Thank you for being there on UA-cam, Thank you for inspiring.
I'm the same way. I watched Peter's b-roll video and decided an iPhone 7 was good enough.
apassion8.life Cheers to you and our whole UA-cam family :)
Spot on, guy. There are others on the UA-cam that rave about having the best equipment, and make you feel inferior if you are not in full manual mode. Well guess what? The best camera is the one you have in your hand, and the best shot is the one you went out and got.
Me too... I started to make a video with my samsung j5 pro camera... and it's cool... you can visit my channel if you wanna watch the video... 🤓
Didn't know you back when you posted this xD
He said all these 5years ago and It is still very good and helpful for those of us that are just starting and for us that just found the channel🥺🥺🥺

NIKE JOSH o
NIKE JOSH I wish I had something to stablize my footage... now I'm forced to shot everything on my cheap ass tripod worth like 20 or 30 bucks
the real question I ask myself everyday is "what can I shoot today?"
haha yeah I really need a damn stabiliser. If I don't get one though, I'm gonna end up being so fucking good at holding a camera free hand.
"You learn from every single thing you do" what a great perspective, love that.
A huge force in your video Peter, thanks to you I started shooting short videos, began to generate new ideas for shooting video and photos. Want to say a big thank you and keep it up!

Max Reynolds use the GoPro suction cap .. it's very tough and sturdy
Or the gopro sticky mount. Clean the wing with rubbing alcohol first so it sticks really well

and I am now 59. the best thing about your videos is that you
follow the KISS rule (Keep It Simple Stupid). you are a natural
teacher.
Do you play drums?
I do indeed ;)
i did wonder?? hittin those 1/8 triplets on the roll bro :)
can you make a drum cover? any songs
Number 1 fan from the Philippines!! ^_^
I ask two simple questions when people ask me this ...
1. What is it you want to achieve with the equipment?
2. What is your budget?
I usually end up recommending the entry-level Canon (T6/T7) kit because most people just want to learn and then upgrade later.
Could you review the sony a7s ii camera please?
ag x he is Canon gay.
Naif Al-khanbashi *guy 😂😂😂
So relate to the gopro thing. Last time I used one was to find an oil leak that was in a strange place on a tractor. Before that, on my phantom 2. Now they sit in my camera bag
Peter, I came across your channel earlier this week and I'm a huge fan of what you're creating! You've certainly helped/inspired my work a lot in such a short time. Oh Canada baby!!
Nikon

Can't believe I'm this early!
Antilope is beautiful. Definitely worth the trip. Be sure to get a tour at the right time so you can see the beams. And bring a fast enough lens (at least f2.8)
Hey Peter!
My names Skyler I'm a 16 year old cancer survivor and have an aching passion for a cinematography and photography,
(I had ALL) (Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia)
(T-cell blood cancer)
Ever since I was like 6 I had always been into cameras, I loved the idea of using my imagination and capturing it on moving picture for everyone else to see!
I figured you would be interested in checking out my 'portfolio'. I recently made a new account specifically for my work
I post mostly photos but am starting to post some 60 second cinematic videos.

I love your view on not being the best. You really inspire me to keep going, even though my cinematography teacher often says my works aren't good, because it's not what he would do. Well, i don't care. Just like my other class mates say, do it your own way :)
Notification squad 🙂
That just doesn't exist anymore hahaha
hey Peter McKinnon i just want to say thanks for those vids I have been watching for 3 weeks long and really like the way you do vids and improve them every time I see a new one I learn something different from you, big Thanks!!
All the thumbs downs - are people that hate pineapple on pizza.
Pineapple on bread is not pizza. You can do it and eat it, but you can't call it pizza :-)
Pineapple does not fit on pizza
Fruits do not belong on pizza. End of story
So tomatoes (including tomato sauce), peppers, etc. Aren't allowed on pizza?
@@togibear2429 most fruits are sweet, with the exception of tomatoes. Savory things go on pizza. Sweet things do not
It's always fun to come back and watch these "older" vids. Still something to learn even late 2019!!
13:27 Sony fanboys listen :)
Phil Ipp 😂😂😂
LOL
Lol, he said Canon is his thing earlier
Come on Peter! You know you're one of the best out there! You're one of the people who inspired me to give this vlogging thing a try. Keep up the great work.
Volumes are off: music too loud and voice too quiet.
JonasTheKing That's just his style
I’m deaf so I don’t really care.
I love that answer about what camera you should buy thank you so much.
Unsubscribed because of the pineapple on the pizza. Absolutely barbaric 😂
Gustavo Santos 9gag
Lmao
Haha! I'll let this one slide since pineapple on pizza was started in Canada and he is Canadian
. THANK YOU!!!!
Thank you, Peter. I never liked or comment on someone's tube! You have inspired me to believe of myself
Dear Peter, I am a small "youtuber" with around 90 subs. I've lost around 13 subs in 1 day and I don't know why. Maybe you have some tips that I could use to grow a little more😄
I just watched some of your videos. You are so good! So natural! Keep up the good work. I just subscribed to your channel :)
Dawid Milczarek thanks man

I use teh EOS M50 Mark II as its light and EF-M canon lenses are light and easy to carry. My small colelction fo elsnes fits in a small shoulder bag. Peter could not have been more right when saying that the ideal camera varies person by person.

Thanks Peter! First Camera/One I have now, Canon T2i! Thanks for the videos! They inspire me a lot!
