- We’ve returned from our mid-season break, so we’ve decided to re-visit the show that’s pretty much synonymous with midseason beaks for us: The Walking Dead. As the AMC TV show entered its second season, there were even more changes made from the Image Comics graphic novels for television. From the relative role of Hershel’s farm, to the fate (and existence) of various characters we’ll go through every difference, major, minor, and in between between the comics and the TV show. Lori in the comics: Tells Shane they're done and that Rick is her husband, defends Rick from Shane during a fight, comes out to Rick about being pregnant, understands that Shane was crazy and had to die.
Lori in the show: Constantly sends mixed signals to Shane, batshit crazy, insults Andrea for no reason, calls Daryl selfish, gets pissed at Rick for killing Shane in self-defense.

When she was in the show, and she was very hesitant about continuing the show, and decided that she didn’t want to do it anymore so the writers killed her off. After it was already set in stone though, she changed her mind, but it was too late.

If I'm correct, the only members of the group still alive by the end are Carl, Sofia, Michonne, Maggie, Eugene, and Jesus.
There was a herd of walkers that overran the prison and only Otis died, most likely because he used the N word. Never use the N word in a zombie apocalypse.

Shane's not all bad. He was a decent guy before the apocalypse. He and Rick were good friends then. He truly believes Rick died in the apocalypse first and is merely trying to look after Carl and Lori. It's not until Rick returns that his jealousy and alpha male behaviour starts driving him to the brink of insanity. Before that, he was a pretty decent guy though.

Just they were annoying and not really played a big part as their characters in the comics

I think season two was a great way to show more character development as well as what was to come later in the some i.e. Andrea's stubbornness

The show draws things out so much compared to the comics.
I used to think Shane was a bad guy for shooting Otis in the show but as I got older and rewatched season 2 recently, I realized that it was a justified sacrifice. If Shane hadn't shot Otis, not only would he and Otis died anyway, but so would have Carl. Shane made in my opinion the only choice he could've to save Carl's life and I can't fault him for it. As messed up as it sounds I probably would've made the same choice in his shoes given the circumstances.

they could have either talked it out, resulting in one of them staying behind to allow the other to escape
shane could have just ran faster (the horde wont just pick them both at the same time, so long as shane was just a bit faster he could have made it)

the entire season depicts him as a crazy selfish man, what he did was a coward move.

I really hated how they treated Rick at the end of Season 2 in the show. I forgot that Season 1 explained that everyone had the virus, but I still knew that from common sense. Not everyone is going to get bit and turn into a Walker. Most people died from other ways and turned. I found that out by myself, but when Rick tells everyone, they're all surprised. Once again, I forgot that the CDC part explained this. I had that in my memory alone. How come Daryl couldn't figure that out? He's one of the smartest people in the group!

Comics last much longer. The season five of the show is set in Alexandria, which, in the comics, is in volume 13. And the comics are on 25th volume currently, and still going...

The show is in the second or third year of the zombie plague. The comics are into the fourth or fifth year.

I was wondering the same thing, I caught absolutely no racist vibes from him. Otis seemed like a genuinely nice person to me, which made what Shane did to him seem even more messed up.

for some context of the comics, another mc Lee Everett stayed at Hershel's farm, and so did this deuteragonist Kenny, and so Kenny has a really really dumb son, so basically Shawn ask Kenny's son to "help" build a wall for walkers by sitting on a tractor like for fun, and what happens is, a walker grabs Shawn through a whole and is aggressively attacking Shawn so then Kenny's son accidently runs over Shawn's leg with the tractor and then a walker grabs Kenny's son, the mc Lee comes to the rescue to save the day (btw this is a telltale game that was made based off the comic so this is canon, but basically you given choices for things that will be useful in the future or it might have consequences for what u do) and so Lee is given an option to save Shawn or Kenny's son, if you save Shawn, nothing happens he still dies but you make Hershel happy which is irrelevant cuz he doesn't show up again also Kenny's son still lives cuz Kenny saves him. If you save Kenny's son, it makes Hershel REALLY mad but he doesn't return in the game so its fine but also, Kenny has a point system at the end of the game, so basically you have to get so many points for him to help you find Clem at the end. If you get bellow 4 he won't come is u get 4-8 then u have to persuade him to come, and if you get 9 he automatically comes with you so pick Kenny's son if you decide to play The Walking Dead game.

I wonder how many people watches it because they read the comic books but didn't watch the show. I'm one of those people.
+Łukasz Żukowski Me too, I tried to watch it but it's like watching real housewives of the walking dead. Really cheap housewife drama, bad acting, lackluster computer special effects. Everyone says oh the show is trying to be different but yet doing the same thing as the comics with all the punches pulled. I will say from the first season and the couple episodes I've seen the practical effects are amazing, the costume design and makeup are top notch. Too bad the writing, acting, and directing are terrible.
Fah Que I actually haven't even tried to watch the show. I was introduced to Walking Dead universe by Telltale video games. And because those games were based on comic books and not on TV show, I naturally decided to read comic books. Now I'm watching "What's the difference" and I'm not sure I like all those changes. Sounds like they're ruining many great characters. Until now I honestly couldn't get why people hate Andrea so much. She's one of the best characters in the comic books.

It's made for the lowest common denominator As for the comic book after All Out War you only grow to love her more, and everything on Hilltop... man the comic is so good. Not to mention how awesome and fucked up Carl is, I heard he's just a mopey little kid in the show, not the messed up adult he is in the comics. Telltale got everything right about the series. So real question... did you let Clem eat the human meat?
Fah Que Actually I'm still at "Too Far Gone" so I'm not sure what are you talking about. ;-) I prefer to avoid spoilers even such as who will be still alive in vol. 20. But I already see how awesome Andrea is and how awesome and fucked up Carl is. But really? Andrea is still alive at vol. 20 and already dead in the show? I hope next "What's the Difference" will explain that.
Let Clem eat human meat? Of course not! Why should I? I couldn't have done it even from curiosity. This game woke up my parental instinct and I didn't even know I have something like that. I don't even have any kids. :-P The only decision I really regret is living Lilly on the road. I know she killed a human being in anger without a real reason but... Lee did that too... so... ups...
+Łukasz Żukowski i think for some one that doesn't read or watch twd they should watch the show first then read the comics, it's what i did and i like both. if you read the comics first you're sure be like "the comics is better" because they are so different. i see them more as parallel universes. of course there are stuff in the tv show that i don't like (Andrea story was shit, Michone is not the same, i prefer the comic version, and i don't like where they are going with Carl plot, he is not as badass as in the comics, which will take away the best moments in the comics that involve Carl), but there is other things that the show did better for example there is too much romantic relationships going on in the comics and rick evolution in the show was more logical, it took time to get him from a good guy that wanted to do right to a a guy that shoots people to protect his family. in the comics Rick is more like Shaun from the tv show from the very start.

Yup. I'm just kind of upset that some of these events that happened to a lot of the characters didn't happen in the show. They make a huge difference in the characters and where they are in the comics today.
I feel that the comics are much more about how the worst can either bring out the best in people, or the epitome of evil. It has a much greater focus on being pushed to your limit and questioning your right and wrong. Whereas the show is more like Saw, with the 'what will you do to survive?' Any how, I don't think they could show a lot of the things from the comic (Governor torture, Michonne rape, baby exploding etc.)

You're right.. except that I'm positive they can show it, just that they don't want to. Especially, if you've seen some of the fan's comments, surprisingly a handful of the fans have weak stomachs and said that they couldn't even handle the gore from the season 7 premiere. I just think they don't want to test the boundaries and found out how many of TWD fans can actually stomach the worst side of TWD or how many will accept babies dying, because if we have a zombie apocalypse, babies WILL die, but some people just get so mad because they don't want to see it and want to be sheltered from the thought.
:/ It's a shame though, I love seeing the grittier version of TWD.
