The 1897-S. So what PCGS is saying, is that the person who cleaned it, took a VERY long time and carefully cleaned the flat surfaces, while carefully and methodically avoided cleaning all of the raised devices. If that is the case, that would be a "statistically outlier" cleaning for the record books.
I did this one recently. Several coins received from PCGS designated as cleaned that I question. I have them in at ANACS currently waiting to see if they straight grade them. PCGS Details Crossover to ANACS Graded! ua-cam.com/video/GTxg1Nlbczo/v-deo.html

Thank you so much! I have been thinking the same thing about anacs holders. I love the design but the color scheme sucks. Everyone complains about their holders but never mentions the fact it's just the color scheme. I feel like they would gain so much ground on pcgs and ngc if they just change maybe the template and for sure the color scheme of their holders.
There are two things I wish they’d do as well. Get an app. I hate pcgs but their app is quite helpful but expensive I’m sure. And take better pics. I got a few of my coins done by ANACS and I gotta say pcgs pics are higher quality. But I’ll take a better company over those things any day.
They(PCGS), along with NGC have been real hit and miss over the last couple years! I'm glad CACG is here and going conservatively graded with their process.
Loved the video! Its cool to see the different opinions between the grading services. For the 1885-O I think its important to point out that for your example it is strike doubling, not a doubled die. Since what you see is flattened slopes and not consistent with the sharp notches you would expect if it were a doubled die. Not sure if that's what you meant or not, but I think its an important clarification nonetheless.
Yes and in my opinion they’re more fair. For example cleaned coins. I feel like ANACS will take the time to try to determine if a coin has scratches from cleaning or if they’re just normal wear over the years and PCGS is far too quick to slap a cleaned designation as soon as they see a few lines.
No it’s not. The only difference is if you have the same grade you may get more money with PCGS but to say they grade more conservative is not true. And 2 grades stricter than Anacs is a joke.
@@Stocksnowball For me is not a joke, depending on the series, is a fact for the W West Point Quarters!, but then as everything in this hobby we all have our opinions and a lot of times will not agree! 👍
I have the 1887 VAM 1B Partial E Rev which is one of the top 50s. I pulled it from my LCS PCGS Graded 63 for $140 but it was not on the label. According to the grading service, there’s only two or three others out there in that grade.
That would be a great catch! I’ve got some partial E reverses but I dont recall if they’re the 1887. I think I’d remember if it was haha. Thats a pricey one
VAM 41 is a top 100 variety. They only recognize the top varieties. If you go to VAM world they show all the varieties. In their app they list a lot of varieties that they don’t recognize, but not all of them and there is nothing stating what they do or do not recognize, so I was under the assumption that if they listed it then they recognized it. Thanks for watching!
So I think the way to get the best slab is grade ANACS, cross to PCGS, then sticker CAC, and finally slab with CACG. (I've already heard stickering is easier than getting slabbed at CAC)
PCGS is ridiculous! Just because it has lines and scratches in it doesn't mean it's been cleaned. Remember: these coins have downtown a LOT of time in pockets or in drawers, safes, bank deposit boxes, etc... plus, they've been handled, transported on trains, horse-drawn wagons... I'm thinking I will just submit my coins to Anacs instead of PCGS. Or, I will send to NGC.
I have learned to appreciate ANACS grading a lot more. They seem to take the time to try and determine if a coin has normal wear or has been cleaned. PCGS will label anything that has some scuff marks on it as cleaned.
Does Anacs automatically give you the VAM attribution if you have a VAM? Or do you have to select it and identify it when submitting? Anyways great video. I’ve been seeing a lot of videos of people complaining about PCGS…. And CAC.
They have two services. One is for $12, they’ll either confirm or deny the variety you think it is. For $15 they will do the research and figure out which variety it is. I almost always go with the $15 one since some varieties are so similar, I’d rather just pay the $3 extra.
@@rockysramblings oh yeah for sure. Definitely better to just go with the $15 then. Thanks for answering. I’ve been thinking about having some coins graded and I think I’m gonna go with ANACS.

People clearly proving photos of a certain PCGS recognized variety, paying for it, waiting weeks to months, and not getting it listed on the slab label! When I first started collecting I was more into the NGC slabs but then it shifted to PCGS once I started sending coins in for grading. Now that I have been collecting for close to 20 years now I prefer the ANACS graded coins and that is now where I send all my submissions. I also like the holder design better because you can see what the coin is in a slab box without pulling it out.
get over it is clean. anacs is now 4th tier grading service with the advent of Cacg. no young graders to complain about. top graders only. send your coins there and see your true grades.
I think you need to lose the microscope until you understand the coins better. Scratches will get a details grade. It does look cleaned and not necessarily because of the lines you are seeing on the coin.
@@rockysramblings Actually, I prefer NGC over all of them. Since they are the official 3rd party graders of the ANA, and they grade and slab the coins in the worlds largest collection of US coins…the Smithsonian’s collection… I made them my choice too. I don’t really care for PCGS at all. Out of several hundred slabbed coins that I own, maybe 10-15 are in PCGS slabs. What I said, I said out of my own experience with coins. Microscopes can be terribly misleading if you don’t already understand the minting process thoroughly and the various processes that can cause post mint damage. It’s not a put down in any way. I was just suggesting a different way that might possibly help you see and understand the coins that you are putting under the microscope a little better. I’m just trying to help save you from the frustration you are experiencing right now. That’s all.
Send them to CACG if you think you got grading under control see what they do ANACS slabbed coins are not going to do your hard work and collection any justification trust me you will lose you back end
I’m a collector not a trader. I don’t care if coin snobs want an expensive holder around the coin. CAC would just cost me even more. I’m not sending in coins that are worth thousands. If I was, then Maybe I’d consider that but I would still use anacs as a filter.
ANACS is just as good if not better than pcgs imo. NGC has turned to crap and Has anyone elsle noticed how cheap their new holders are? Pcgs and Ngc have been bought out by corporations in the last couple of years if you want the best grading CAC is now slapping coins with very conservative grades.ANACS has a chance to now step from third to at least second, or even ,if they would just make a nicer looking holder than that ugly yellow!
Haha yes the yellow is a big turn off but as far as their service and grading goes I honestly think they’re better. I feel like CAC is just trying to top PCGS by being even pickier with their grades. I just want an honest grade, not this coin snob attitude.
That’s a cute saying, heard often. But you better be paying a LOT less for your coins if you are ignoring the holder. Because you and/or your loved ones will get a lot less money for them down the road.
Usually hear this from people who want me to believe their coin is a higher grade than it actually is because I Can’t Grade (or ANACS or whoever) said so.
You just can't anymore. I mean I understand what your saying. Learn how to grade coins and know your stuff but even if you think the coin is the grade, you still have to pay for the fucking slab. There's people asking 50 bucks on 30 dollar coins because their dumbass sent off a bum coin for grading and they don't wanna lose money. More and more nice coins are getting locked behind this bullshit grading service paywall. You gotta buy the coin and the slab now. I crack them out every time. Fuck your big ugly branded plastic hunk of shit. I don't wanna look at that.
When Stacks Bowers, Heritage Auctions, or even Great Collections start having a majority of high dollar coins in ANACS holders (or even 10%), THEN I’ll believe that ANACS is legit and not the Dollar General of grading services.
How much of a commission are they getting off of them? Might tell ya something there. I’ve talked to some of the “in” guys with PCGS and they pretty much made it clear that it’s a big incestuous cabal. It’s been corrupted just like everything is now.
My man... you've drank the kool-aid. You've heard the lies propogated by big grading so much that you just accept them as fact. PCGS is really not that great of a grading service. They just claim to be so much that everyone just accepts it. Also people like the way their holders look so people want to get them in PCGS holders and that just makes them more popular and more trusted no matter how good they actually are. Im essentially doing the same thing in a future video. But I’m sending to ANACS. Hoping it works cuz a couple of them are worth quite a bit if I get the grade I want
Next time you’re in I’ll show you what VAMS PCGS will and won’t take. It’s on the website.
Yeah I only ever used the website for submissions. Found out the hard way that all the vams they have listed on the app aren’t recognized. I just wish they either wouldn’t list them or have some kind of disclaiming mentioning that. I know now that it’s just the ones they give names on the app.
I wouldn’t have given the 1898-O an MS63…I’d call it a 62
🤷🏼♂️
4oz of gold...or fight with PCGS? It's seriously a debate? Cause it's a NO BRAINER for me.
No brain indeed
So sneaky of them to list varieties but not recognize them and then charge full price. Ugh
The confusion is intentional
Yea I think pgcs is bias some companies get a lot higher grades on there bulk dealers
PCGS….LIKE NGC has 3 different graders who privately each grade the coin…the lowest of the 3 is the grade received.
3 different graders that couldn’t tell a quarter was a quarter
that morgan is clearly a 62 .. anacs over graded that thing
Idk if you’ve noticed but the slabs fit in the pcgs boxes as well and you can get the lid on. NGC does not.
get over it is clean. anacs is now 4th tier grading service with the advent of Cacg. no young graders to complain about. top graders only. send your coins there and see your true grades.
I think you need to lose the microscope until you understand the coins better. Scratches will get a details grade. It does look cleaned and not necessarily because of the lines you are seeing on the coin.
Sometimes I feel like people will just agree with PCGS cuz they wanna be one of the bros even tho you can see they clearly make errors.
SEEMS LIKE EVERY COIN YOU SUBMIT TO PCGS COMES BACK CLEANED:?
I sure got a lot of them
Im sorry but scratched up fields are cleaned coins. For the life of me I dont understand why you are wasting your time over a 50 dollar coin.
Who hurt you?
Buy the coin, NOT the holder Fanboys!!!
I don't wanna look at that.
you
🤔
Also like buddy said, they are absolutely in cahoots with the big auction haouses.
You complain so we don't have to🤍 #spaghettiwing #alligatoreye
