- I got a hold of a few "New", Red Box, Nintendo Switches with better battery life (Tegra X1 update) and I do some tear downs, display measurements, and more to talk about what is new, old and just plain the same with this new revision. Seriously, the best cases on the market! (10:20) Waterfield Designs www.sfbags.com/collections/ca.... NOT SPONSORED.

Erica Griffin they really should check their screen calibration before they leave the factory.. it would save Nintendo a lot of returns
When you find out there’s products under your last name.
Erica Griffin do you know if there will be Luigi Mansion 3 switch themed console?
I’ve never been so glad to be poor and have to save up over 2 years to get a better product
I feel you, I Just have to save like 20 bucks more and I can get it!
Tielman Diaz with a game ?
I just got a used one that wasn't being used after Christmas present for 170£ with splatoon 2.
or you could’ve bought the original and had 2 years of playtime then trade up for only $75
Well Colombia low wage is shit, look it and you all will understand the struggle plus expenses and debt soooooo
Only Erica would BUY ANOTHER SWITCH just to see a difference between displays. Thanks for taking leaps for science!!!
Gaming is not science! But she did it for Gaming science! Totally Different.
nave You realize she makes money off her videos right lmao
@@iMapleCreator I think she gets way more clicks from phone reviews but shes always been really into portable gaming consoles in the past
XY ZW gaming is science lol... whats inside everything ... matter... science is everything lol
nave it’s plenty of youtubers doing comparisons and she’s actually wrong about it not being much of an upgrade
I cant describe how professional she is. She is the highest level of unboxing
Calm down kid you're just thirsty lol.
Not so much an unboxing as a thorough analysis really. She's a bit underrated in the YT tech community for whatever reason, but it's great that there's at least one person who gets completely anal about minor manufacturing changes and even differences in screen temp and paint feel- I definitely give a bother about those things and it irks me how few people really get into it.
you never watched a highest unboxing, trust me...look for TheRelaxingEnd channel. thank me later.
She's a loon lol at least she found a way to be productive with her OCD though. Not gonna lie, I do appreciate how thorough she can be
That sounds like a description to me.

The screens aren't new. They are just variations of what we have already been getting.
Erica Griffin yea but the battery 🔋 on the new is wayyy better than old switch I really love it
Angel Fernandez yes it works long hours I have been playing my Fire emblem three houses for 4 hours and I still have 40 percent on my battery 🔋 it was really worth it and it’s good and it doesn’t heat up my switch and if you plug 🔌 in the charger it charges hella faster than old switch like 15 to 20 minutes or less it’s fully 100 percent charge
I need a Nintendo switch so I can play with my uncle he lives in the United States I live in daminican republic
Xervantez Xvi The battery is the exact same battery as in the launch Switch. The new SOC improvements is why it lasts longer.
@@xervantezxvi5022 it's not worth it if you already got a switch. It's literally the same garbage just with 2 hours more battery life....not much of an upgrade if you ask me lol....they should of fixed joycons now that's a real fk problem. Not the battery LOL
My switch can last 16 hours I got a battery for it sooo it's useless for me :o
Yes, I'm aware the updated SoC is to make sure the Switch can no longer be exploited to run Homebrew and pirated software. I was speaking of performance.
Ok
But it's not. That "issue" was "fixed" in a previous refresh of the Tegra X1 and those began being sold around July of 2018.
That issue was fixed over a year ago.
it's fine, some people are just picky
@Nils that wasn’t the only Nvidia bug, I can think of at least two others present on Erista.
My personal belief is that Nvidia made this thing to “modernize” the Tegra X1, so using a newer bootrom with more modern security features, adding support for more modern hardware (ex. new PMIC and LPDDR4X support), using a better manufacturing process which then helps reduce power consumption.
Got 3 different V2 Switch’s recently. One has a bluish tint, one has a yellow tint, and one has a very noticeable pink tint which produces the most saturated vibrant colors but it’s filled with clusters of dead pixels along the edges.
MDA I decided to keep the bluish tinted one. But last week I was able to get the Animal Crossing Edition at Best Buy and it has more of a neutral display not too blue and not too yellow.
That sucks man. I recently bought an Alienware for 3000 dollars. And the screen has some light bleed. So I can guess how you feel.
The disassembled parts were very interesting! Thanks Erica!
That screen variation in 2019 is unacceptable. Especially for how expensive these units are.
But hey at least it has smash ultimate?
Customer doesnt see average. Customer sees variance.
Compare it to a tablet, it's a similar price to the budget ipad but has a dock, joycon grip, extra long cable and alot of technology in the controllers. I would say its priced about right.
It actually isn't that bad. The 720p looks more like 1080p ngl
It's 300 bucks.
Nintendo, uniform your damn screens already WTF...
Been waiting for YOUR specific video on it, you’re always so thorough. Thanks!
Yes I have been eagerly waiting as well
The level of variance between panels is disappointing. Poor quality control.
Its some slight changes
they should allowed people screen options in the settings like phones
It's not a professional editing monitor, it's a gaming console. The variation isn't noticeable unless you compare 2 units just as she said
It's meant to be warmer. There was another video which measured how close to neutral the screens are and the newer panel's colors are closer to real than the old switch, which is more on the cooler side
@@azeemsnc plus the new screen is slightly brighter too, I saw the same video
Your screen comparisons are easily the best part of your videos, really lets me see the differences in screen quality very well.
At first i thought this would be another generic "let's just compare screens and forget about anything else!". Was gladly surprised by your knowledge and insights, thank you for this video!
That screen temperature variation on the new revised units is yikes inducing. I’m happy with my original switch but if I was in the market for this one it would drive me crazy to know I could get stuck with that pea green looking one instead of the other.
the old models have it too. I got mine last april and the screen is great. My friend got hers early this year and it looks washed out on colours and white are warmer.
The new Tegra CPU isn't just for battery life, it also patches the exploit used to boot custom firmware on the original model Switch.
Yep. But this isn't what we are talking about. We are talking about performance changes.
Who cares about broke pirates though? :)
I don't promote illegal activity and won't even talk about it.

I would return that ugly panel. Nintendo needs to normalize the screens.

The "Warmer" Screen is Actually Better for Our Eyes and Healths....
@Calx agreed
It's all Mario's doing... that bastard!
Wow, you're a very straight forward and professional reviewer.
You're picky just like me so I enjoy your videos most, I remember those IPS 3DS videos lol
When I saw a video about a different screens of 3ds I in shock jumped for my 3ds and I was freezed for a whole hours of googling and comparing it to the photos and videos. I still don't know if I have both IPS or both TN (I have both screens the same) because in every comparing I did I was literally everytime between both sides (ips and tn photos/videos/describtion). I gave up after a week and it's still bothering me :D
Yea i also jumped instantly to check my 3ds screens. guess whos got double TNs?
While it's not as bad as that, Nintendo does have a bad history manufacturing issues. Hope the "pro" switch doesn't have any screen issues
Yeah, I have an IPS New 3DSXL. :(
My god, the IPS... Once I knew about it I immediately started looking for it just to have it... and bought it for much more $$$... The price of luxury T_T
thank you for going into detail and even doing a screen comparison! great video
This is the best video that covers the revision, lots of detailed information!
I do appreciate your detail and coverage of gadgets. It’s not found elsewhere and please keep it up. 💪🏼
I loved your video you earned yourself a sub. You go through everything and there’s just not enough of that on UA-cam. Keep up the good work 👌🏾
I can't wait until LCD technology improves. The amount of variation in their production is ridiculous. Color temperature, dead pixels, viewing angle distortions, etc. Every time I receive a new device I have to spend at least 5 minutes evaluating the display to make sure nothing is fucked up about it. There usually is.
You are speaking my language. I have to agonize whenever I get a new Nintendo device. Poor tolerances here and no idea why whoever is calibrating them is messing them up this badly. I can tell they are indeed calibrated. Maybe it's a batch calibration and there are individual factory display differences that just can't have one profile slapped on them all!
true sRGB calibrated displays would indeed be nice
Exabella LCD will eventually be phased out by mLED, it would obsolete once mLED becomes cheap enough. Perfect contrast, super wide viewing angle, no burn in, insane color accuracy and volume, instant response time, low input lag, etc
@@gewdvibes this only applies when the micro led display is calibrated PROPERLY and when the LEDs themselves have pure Red blue and green wavelengths. If not, you wont have a very wide gamut and colors that don't look right.
@@EricaGriffin hey can u compare the screen to vita oled and maybe to a phone screen as well, would be interesting no one has done any of that
You’re my favorite reviewer of Nintendo hardware. Love the detail you provide on the display variations. You get geeky but put it accessible. Will keep watching you take on all things tech. Thanks for all that you do.
Great video. Best I've seen so far breaking down the new switch. Thanks for the bag recommendations as well.
thank you for uploading this wonderfully detailed video , its worth every minute whereas other videos .....

Hands down the best comparison video I've seen. I just upgraded yesterday using the 225 dollars GameStop gave towards my old model
ALKATRAZZ hopefully you'll get the better screen. I was thinking of doing the same but I've been using mine more on the dock and am waiting for a pro model hopefully by next year (but honestly still blown away of how it performs for what it's working with)
This is the best option for upgrades considering that’s basically what you get selling it first hand
For what the price of a new set of joycons are, this really is the best deal.
@@midnitestate my screen is just slightly warmer than the one that came bundled with Mario Odyssey and the red joycons. The bundled one was much warmer than the launch one that I traded in.
@@ALKATRAZZ You traded in the Mario Red Joy Con!? You monster!

Wow, I love the details that you go into! Exactly what I was looking for. I considered buying a new one but needed to know about the screen differences and your video is the best one I've found. Thank you.
This screen variance is going to drive my OCD crazy!
ikr, almost makes me wish I haven't watched this video and never found out the variance exists :D
Rathori Khass Exactly. Looking at my new screen wondering if it can be brighter and more accurate. :/
Do you actually have OCD, or are you just saying you do because you don’t know what it actually is?
Dimentive No I do not clinically have OCD. But... when I know something can be better, I can get excessive thoughts (obsession) with making sure I have the best picture and sound quality. This can lead to repetitive behavior like returning a PS Vita over 8 times to get one with no dead pixels. (Compulsion)
I really am more of a videophile.
@uwu グーチ owo I see what you did there.

Great video however it raises issues with Nintendo's so-called Seal of Quality. The term "Seal of Quality" usually implies all devices are made identical, and therefore should be using the same screen panels from the same supplier to prevent differences in colour temperature as the customer is buying blind and not told before purchase which here in Australia is a breach of Australian Consumer Law. When these issues are discovered, many consumers return to the place of purchase and rightly so as because its of the belief there is an issue because the screen looks odd. Then the retailer sometimes palms the customer off to the manufacturer who can the claim "its within specifications" which is just a blanket statement.
Since the colour temp is not stated on the packaging or paperwork and user adjustments are prohibited by Nintendo (unless via a software update) this raises more questions from Nintendo. To my knowledge the packaging does not contain a disclaimer along the lines of "Simulated picture only" or "Design subject to change without notice" or equivalent. If these panels are inferior to each other than legally Nintendo is liable. Nintendo years ago made great solid hardware that was identical no matter where purchased which to me is a sign of quality. Unfortunately, outsourcing to multiple suppliers changed this permanently and this is the end result. It's akin to buying a brand of TV and not knowing the panel manufacturer inside. To me it's unacceptable as you are not forewarned and unfortunately there are no legal requirements to indicate this information (to their benefit).
It is not for consumers to be test subjects / guinea pigs for hardware issues especially when paying for it. If on the other hand it was free then that's a different story. I also believe companies like Nintendo should manufacture their own hardware themselves as this means more control over QC and other factors. I am personally of the believe that Nintendo cannot claim the Switch is made by them because they did not manufacture it themselves, but instead was made by Foxconn or another supplier on their behalf - big difference.
I personally have no had joy-con drift issues myself however Nintendo's refusal to admit liability or acknowledge the issues / flaws makes me question the moral standing of such a Company especially when these same sticks are used in the Lite version. Then (in Australia) charge for repairs because their technicians "deem" a fault is because of the user in order to bypass Australian Consumer Law, is unlawful (we don't have a no questions asked free repair or replacement) unlike the US and Nintendo here refuse to follow it.
They have got shareholders by a couple of years... and you still talk about morals? Lol.
Waterfield makes awesome stuff. I use their case for my Macbook Pro.
Very informative! This really helped me to understand what some of the differences are between the chipset, board, and battery of my launch Switch versus the new OLED too. Thanks!
Thanks for putting in the work for this vid!
I have that exact Waterfield pouch and I can't recommend it enough. It's a bit pricey, but if you appreciate quality materials and don't want people knowing your carrying a switch around, your gonna love it.
That's one of the things that bothers me so much, every case out there literally ADVERTISES that you have a switch thus just screams to be stolen! I want protection from debris and theft smh

Great video. Hoping for an updated screen on the next version of the Switch. Slimmer bezels, more pixels, higher refresh rate.
already odd they didnt do that with the lite, literally the same screen could have fit and reduce the bezel
Why did I watch this! Now I'm going to nitpick my damn screen again like I did with the New 3ds XL. Great video!
Hands-down the best switch v2 comparison I've ever seen.
Super thorough, complete tech-specs and super clean comparison of the joy-cons.
I was not aware of the screen quality differing like this. I thought all v2 switch's screens were optimal, seems this is not the case.

Why did you do this, now I need to buy a new case 😭😭 The cityslick one looks really good 😭😭
Thanks for the great vid! The screen seems to be a Switch thing in general as opposed to relative to this new model. It's worth the price even if you already own a Switch for that battery life bump alone! :)

Faulty Joy cons and now different color temperature panels, imagine that in a place without Nintendo's representation like here in Brazil.
Too much cons in my opinion.

Wtf.. why am I just now seeing this channel. Great job.
Good to see you again.
Can’t wait to see you review the Switch Lite!
I know when I bought mine from Argos in the UK, it was advertised as the Nintendo Switch "with improved battery life"
Also, they sold out of the red and blue joycon version and only had the grey joycon version... but I like the grey joycons! I definitely like the controller mount for the joyconsto slide them in to hold as a controller, I bought what I thought was going to be a Nintendo Pro controller, but instead Tesco got me a PowerA controller, meh... it was cheaper, but it's still a 2UP controller, I like the joycons in their controller mount.
Was really considering trading mine in to Gamestop during the $25 extra promo just to get newer hardware, fresh joycons and a brand new battery, plus the extended battery life and lower temps and back under warranty. However, with the screen gamble, I will stick with my launch model and can always just replace the battery myself when that starts to die off. Thanks!
Haven’t seen you in a while, great video.
Just found your channel, I'm loving it! :D

How can you tell? Its hard to see the difference.
@YOLO MAN ive been complaining since the 3ds days idiot
Thank yu for showing the differences in the screens , no one is talking about the different screen temps now I know to look for that before I buy mine ☺️ thanks
Hi! I can corroborate everything in this review, you did an excellent job. I had borrowed a friend's 'old' Switch for a few months and finally picked one up for myself when the new ones were released with larger battery life.
I definitely noticed the same thing where the old controllers were smooth, but the new ones were a matt finish, and same with the paint on the Switch itself.
Also your points about the antenna placement for the bluetooth are spot on. I had connectivity issues using my friend's old controllers from only sitting about 2.5 metres away from the TV, sometimes the signal would cut out and the console would not register inputs I had made. With the new controllers, I have not had this issue even once and can sit back 3-4 metres or further and not worry about having dropped inputs!
Also battery life is FAR superior. I found I could only play BotW for a couple of hours at most on my friend's old Switch, and the new one lasts twice as long, although it still drains quickly on full brightness but I don't have to worry quite so much when I want to just play for a bit in bed before going to sleep as I am confident the battery isn't just going to die on me before I'm done.
Finally, my first purchased Switch had a dead/stuck pixel on the screen and I contacted Nintendo Support and they arranged a courier to collect the faulty unit from me at no charge, and I got a new unit sent out within the space of about 5 days from the first one arriving. So I'd say that's a big plus to Nintendo since I know in the past they have not replaced units with dead pixels because it's a known manufacturing flaw with panels.
All-in-all very happy to have grabbed one of the new Switches. Very well worth getting for people who are considering a Switch but haven't got one yet! I'm not sure these differences would be worth it for someone who already owns a Switch though, but that's down to them I guess :)
I just bought a switch revision version and I thankfully got lucky and my screen looks fantastic, weirdly enough I noticed yellowish tint at first and it seemed to completely go away when I updated the console.
Thanks, great video. I have the revision now and the screen is definitely a warmer color tone. I prefer cool color tone but am pleased with the extra battery life and my old switch was definitely loved and needed a replacement. I don’t notice a green pea color tone, but whites don’t look very white, more warm white. Anyways another great video, thanks for doing these!
Your 3DS TN and IPS videos are what lead me to going out of my way to get a beautiful Fire Emblem Fates Dual IPS system. Love the amount of detail you go into with color temperature and screen types, so I appreciate you having gone out of your way to check the color temps on these new units. Looks like Nintendo is back at it again with a bit of a screen lottery haha.
My screen panel variation is the total opposite. My og switch had a greenish tint and my newer switch has to much higher white balance. The quality control is...... i don't know.
Missing the "control" part perhaps?
Switch V2 is nice because of that battery I ONLY play it in Handheld mode with my Gamecube wireless controller

Sometimes the downside of watching these great in depth reviews is that they can tend to trigger our need for the “perfect” unit. Haha
SneakerD84 this is happening to my now. I have ocd and I got a new switch from Nintendo cause the one I bought had a software problem. I watched this video and when I turned on my new switch I felt like the screen was giving a yellowish color scheme. And now I’m freaking out, I hate it. Idk what to do...
Your the one person I seen talk about how there have been a few Screen changes in the Switch.
Erica.... of course it’s brigther... you put the brightness up.

Oh god, I do not own a Switch and I waited until the newer version to buy one. Hope I won't get a pea greenish screen.
my hunch is you should be able to return it for another one if that happens

Very good review, thanks
I dont have a switc... yet...but the holidays are right around the corner so we'll see what happens!
Hopefully at least the switch lite
I'm getting mine tomorrow
At it's current price, I wouldn't say it's a good purchase if you already have an Xbox One or PS4... Unless you desperately want to play a few exclusive games or if you truly think you'll play it in portable mode enough to justify the purchase.
TheLucky ChosN1 Be aware of the drift in the lite.
Mine was $350 because it came with a travelers case, a screen protector, 128gb Sd card, and a 12 month family membership. I bought it in Costco. Also it’s the V2
All I know is my Switch Lite screen is so bright I cant look directly at the sun in breath of the wild even tho my brightness is less than half.
I also have a Nintendo Switch Lite.
Have you tried to pull down the brightness?
If it does not work, it may be a product failure, so contact the store.
If it is a product defect, you will receive a new one as a replacement.
Nice overview of the various joycon internals. As I suspected the screen difference is just normal variations.
This is the only video I can find that does this comparison!! Wow
The ONLY reason they did this was to stop the exploits, no other reason.
I'm sure that's true, but performance wise, they announced, though very quietly, this update for increased battery life and no performance improvements. This what I am talking about.
Yup
It's the same new processor that the Switch Lite has, so it's probably cheaper from a manufacturing standpoint to just put the new chip in all of them.
its because nvidia forced them to do. they stopped producing 20nm tegra x1 a long time ago and were only producing for nintendo. So Nintendo had to do a revision. Nvidia’s Shield devices are also going to get a revision as well with the same chip this Fall.
nah patched the exploits back in 2018
I have the old one I’ll wait for more improvements I feel they can do mor to the switch.
This was really helpful thanks!
