Can I offer you another point of view? Violence will never stops violence. If you kill one dictator, soon or later it will be another one. Death follow death. And Dimash knows it.
For me the answer Dimash offered us is that his son chose another path, the peace path. That is how Dimash ended the video, people searching peace, not preparing another army...

I appreciate your seriousness in the analysis , I really liked it, until now I had not heard such a deep analysis, thank you again. I could honestly write paragraphs, about the video, your discussion, and the points brought forth, but with so many great comments already, I'll just say this - that if I could, I'd forward your reaction to Dimash himself, as it would totally make his day! 🫶 (and subscribed!)

Hi, friend. With love from Russia.
You should see a live performance of this song to appreciate the vocals without being distracted by the video.
Very lively and emotional reaction. A live performance of this song, highlighted in a separate video, can be found on the fan cameras that filmed Dimash's concert in Alma Ata.
The best video of the live performance of this song is on Dimash's channel, it was shot by professional cameramen, but not cut separately.
Dimash - Almaty Concert | part 3, starts about 24 minutes, immediately after the song "History of the One Sky" there is a new song in Spanish, the composer of which is also Dimash. ua-cam.com/video/YP1r9wlkmHU/v-deo.html
    Briefly about the plot.
The military dictator is a friend of the main character, he saved Dimash as a child, but then held a grudge against him, because he was also in love with a girl on the beach, but was rejected by her.
The murdered girl, according to the plot, is the daughter of the main character (Dimash) and a woman giving birth to her second child. Dimash killed a friend who saved his life and therefore returned to the beginning, that is, he lost his life again.
Dimash's second child, according to the predictions of wise people, should become a leader who will lead peaceful people to the light, so people saved the woman so that she could give birth to a son. At the end, Dimash's son is shown, who has become an adult.

In Sept 2022, Pope Francis traveled to attend the Seventh Congress Leaders of World and Traditional Religions which was being held in Kazakhstan. Dimash performed this song for the Pope during his visit. Pope Francis awarded Dimash with a commemorative medal for his humanitarian efforts.
In February of this year, Dimash became a goodwill ambassador for the International Organization for Migration (IOM). As per their website, IOM is an organization within the UN system promoting humane and orderly migrations for the benefit of all.

Thank you so much! ❤This was such a thoughtful and genuine reaction and I agree with you on so many points you've made. One line that stuck out to me was along the lines of "tears and blood should not flow from death, but from birth of life" and in the video he juxtaposed father greiving the daeath of of his daughter and mother giving birth. They were both screaming and crying, but it held completely different emotions. There is so much in this video, I can find something new every time watching it. Thank you for watching it and perhaps through your channel it reached at least one person, who hadn' seen it before ❤

Thank you for your reaction. Dimash worked on this for 3 years and it is a masterpiece. He is truly an ambassador for peace. The shepherd at the end was the child that was born when Dimash's character died. The child was the son of Dimash's character and he grew up to lead others to the light.

Thank you so much for your outstanding reaction🥰.
The video shows once again that Dimash is an absolute genius. In composing, in singing but also as an actor and as a storyteller. The powerful message conveyed by this video is more relevant today than ever. I think this video is mostly about the message. This message however, is for the first time more important than his vocal abilities. His voice is just the tool in this video. But simply unbelievable. His singing is indescribable and I don’t have the words to express it adequately. But it is only the mediator of what this video is about. This is so heartbreaking and sad and an awesome masterpiece. Pure goosebumps. You probably have to see it more than once to understand it.
He worked on this composition for three years and also wrote the screenplay.
The premiere was on September 24, 2022.
As some have mentioned, this video should be seen by many people. It may be very brutal for some. But let’s not forget that for many, including children, this is everyday life in some countries. And Dimash relentlessly shows us how ugly war is. During his concerts he always tells the audience he loves all people in every country. He visited so many different counties with his concerts and he realized that there are no bad nations (only bad leaders).
And OMG he is such a phenomenal actor.
Dimash was the little boy who was drowning in the beginning and he gave the necklace to his childhood friend (and future leader) and the girl. The girl on the beach was his future wife. She was pregnant and in the end of the video she gave birth to her and Dimashs' (character) second child. The littel girl who was shot was Dimashs and her first daughter. When he came home and saw his daughter dead on the ground, he had to assume that his wife and unborn child were also killed. Desperation and maybe revenge has led him to kill his former friend. When I first saw the video, I was shocked. I didn't think he was going to shoot his friend. But in the end that all made sense. Dimash wanted to show what revenge can do. Violence always breeds violence, and because of this, not only is the leader dead, but so is Dimash. It was so heartbreaking to see Dimash drown at the end. Dimash in the last sequence of the video was the baby that was born and now as a grown man unites people of different nationalities and religions for peace.
In this video you can see how the main religions are represented mostly with his voice. Islam with the type of Arabic melisma (unfortunately I don't know the correct explanation for this type of singing), Buddhism with the monks and the enchanting "Om", Judaism with the shofar and the Christian church with the soprano singing, which often can be heard in churches.
If you want to know more about this video check out dimashnews. com
By the way Dimash has received an award from Pope Francis personally at The Congress of the Leaders of World and Traditional Religions held in Kazakhstan on September 13, 2022. He performed the song there in connection with the congress before the premiere. Can you imagine, a Muslim receiving an award from the head of the Catholic Church. How wonderful is that🥰.
He also gave a speech at the first Central Asian Media Forum, in which he once again strongly advocated peace. You can see it with English subtitles. ua-cam.com/video/2C55a3mvfPI/v-deo.htmlsi=99iF8ltfNARzaZAn
He is also an abassador of peace. He never get tired to advocat peace everywhere he is. He was recently appointed as a Goodwill Ambassador by the UN. IOM Regional Goodwill-Ambassador of Migration.
The official live version of his concert (on September 23, 2022 in front of 30,000 people from 68 different countries) is available on his channel, Almaty concert part 3 from minute 23:15 with a short speech in which he performed the song for the first time. You should definitely see this. There are subtitles in English
    ua-cam.com/video/YP1r9wlkmHU/v-deo.html
And he's been singing it in all his concerts ever since. But always a little different.
    Greetings and love from Germany👋❤️

The three friends on the beach are Dimash (who became the soldier), the little girl (who was the woman sitting on the floor with a child under her arm holding the necklace. Dimash married her and had children with her), and the taller boy who saved Dimash's life (who became the dictator). The taller boy wanted the girl, but she rejected him on the beach and ran to be with Dimash. Watch how that little Dimash looks at her when she has his necklace on. He loves her. His friend, scowling looks out to sea and does not want to accept the necklace, in fact he never wears it. It gets bent in his hands. The gnomon points towards the right direction in life. They all had one, but only two of them were guided by it.

Thank you. The drowning boy grows to be the soldier. The taller boy grows up to be the dictator. The girl who spurns the taller boy grows up to become the soldier's wife and mother of the little girl who dies and dies giving birth to the baby boy. The mother dies when he is born and the soldier also dies when he is born. The pendents symbol is part of a sundial called a gnomon. Notice that the adults all wear them and the mother's is placed on the baby boys neck. The taller boy squeezes his and it becomes bent as his world view. He then uses the shape as a warped symbol on the uniforms of his soldiers. This is all about peace. Dimash gave his 1st performance of this at the conference on religions that was held in Almaty Kazkhstan. The Pope attended and gave Dimash a gold medal of commendation. Dimash's vocals are mind blowing in this song. He uses chants from many faiths and peoples. The pilgrims are journeying away from war and towards the light. It is a difficult and uphill battle. The grown baby boy becomes the leader of this movement towards peace and life. Thank you for your analysis and your thoughts. This was very interesting.

It was jealousy that turned into hatred for Dimash and the girl who loved each other and had the child killed in the attack on Dimash's village. This transformed from the beginning the "Piper" who never put the gift of Dimash child (a gnomon) around his neck, but always held and clutched it in anger.

Thank you Dr. Nic. It's interesting how Dimash raises the issue of OUR personal decisions. The pendant that one offers as a symbol of friendship, another uses as a symbol of war. Religions, which invite unity (beautiful images of that slope from the shadows towards the light), others use religions to kill each other. It's OK for us to talk about war when it is distant, but what decision would we make when immersed in horror? That moment is impressive when he, overcome with pain, decides to kill his former friend Piper and a "spiritual storm" occurs, perhaps the last vestige of our conscience (that image where the religious extend their hand in the blizzard as if to say "Do not kill!"). And the result of killing is death itself. An eye for an eye, and the world will be blind... very difficult. As difficult as it is to change the world and the selfishness of man, but we can each start with ourselves. Wonderful the parallelism between childhood and adulthood, life and death, despair and hope, darkness and light... WE HEAR your cry Dimash. Thank you for this, by heart.

    Immenso e inarrivabile Dimash.
    Saluti from Italy 🇮🇹

Brilliant reaction to this masterpiece. So much symbolism! I also took note that the metal object made into a shared pendant appeared to be a piece from a sundial or compass. Also, when Dimash's young character hands his savior friend his makeshift gift (received reluctantly) the pendant/symbol is revealed as warped after it's in his hand. Also, the use of natural light vs artificial light seemed suggestive (natural sunlight and candles vs light from bulbs and flashlights). So many poetic nuances! "WE NEED PEACE!!!"

Estimado Dr. Nic.

Almaty Concert Part 3 has this sung live for the first time [he sings it at all concerts]. He starts by setting the context which is powerful. His live singing is amazing because you see the passion and despair as he conveys the urgency he feels. He has spoken at a Peace conference where again he explains his philosophical view o they state of the world. He is a spiritual person who seeks to spread love, support and encouragement. He follows the Story of One Sky with El Amor En Ti - the lyrics and music are great

To really understand the narrative happening here in this song, one should study the history of his parents, the nation (the Khazaks), the entire historical background and bring that into what is currently happening in our world today. Dimash has produced and directed this Trophy Masterpiece already few years ago that took him the best part of three years of his young life, and that deserves nothing less than the Nobel Peace Prize.
He has put into one piece so many different aspects of life, it needs discussion even and especially at academic level.

The problem is that not only human "beings" live here. We are mere puppets of those who pull our strings. This is a place where anything is possible, the place where everything fits, the best and the worst. A place conceived just to experiment with physical life. Throughout history, there have ALWAYS been wars: fights between peoples. There is always one who gives and one who receives. It is in our own hands to learn how to try to live with our own decisions and situations, keeping in mind that this is only temporary. Real life begins when we die. But we are not here by chance. We decided to live on Earth, for some reason, and we must finish what we started. More importantly, we must remember WE are not from here, we are not what we see in a mirror. Our real ME is not visible to our eyes.
All I have said means that everything will happen the same, with or without us.

Dimash is a philosopher and almost no one understood the message contained in this film.
You need to be very attentive to the signals he transmits, it's not for nothing that he refers to Piper's.
"The characters are tied to symbols that are passed from generation to generation, and through this symbol they are born, kill and die and others are born...always thinking that they will be different, but they are not."
Symbols transcend human antiquity and understanding, which is why they are carried by the winds of endless ages so that humanity never realizes its courage and realizes that its life has meaning and follows the path of necessary and urgent evolution.
Global leaders, owners of the world, use these symbols and the propaganda narrative to control people's minds, they will easily digest what is behind a symbol that has been perpetuated for generations. Some symbols serve to justify aggressions, invasions, wars, it is the way of robotically uniting them so that they cannot think for themselves.
When "They realize" that someone has left the cave and can bring light to the multitudes, they create "imperfections in matter" to prevent the children of light, the dimensional ones, from doing the work of awakening that would generate the "Revolution".
"Piper" in the song is a reference to the piper of Hamelin, who with his flute attracts and hypnotizes rats to follow him and die, "Piper" is an analogy to his childhood friend who became the leader of evil, who created a war destroying lives in search of a supposed "Union".
In the end, Dimash, falling into the water, shouts "we choose life" it is a desperate cry: "There is no meaning and life in war, war is death".
It is important and urgent that we leave the cave, the private bubble and realize that we are being controlled by a strange and lying narrative and start to see and observe what is outside, obtain other information and think and make decisions for ourselves. Or else we will be like sheep that meekly walk to the slaughterhouse.
A free soul like Dimash unveils the veil that covers our eyes and courageously shows on his platform this subjection to which humanity is trapped. History repeats itself as we can see in these symbols shown by Dimash in his epic and glorious film.
    Hug from Brazil

It takes a few watches to catch everything but if you focus on the first scene with the children then you can see the moment hate starts to grow in the taller boy/dictators heart.
He's trying to stop the girl from leaving him, holding on to her but she breaks away and runs to Dimash and the boat. He's stood alone looking out to sea and almost rejecting the pendant/symbol of friendship that eventually young Dimash has to thrust upon him.
Dimash and the girl eventually grow up to marry, it's their little girl who is killed and in the awful moment of losing a child who's to say what any of us would do. Seek revenge on the cause of that needless death? Regardless of whether it's a former friend?
The baby is Dimash's son, and the Dimash in the final scene is that baby, grown up learning that war has caused the loss of his family and determined to make a change by uniting the religions on a path of enlightenment and moving towards a future where we work together for the sake of all humanity.

Any good work always allows the viewer to become a co-author, allows us to create interpretations ourselves, but within the limits of the main author's message. A complex work often requires repeated careful viewing.
This film is full of symbolism. From the very first seconds, we are shown frames of the cyclical nature of the story, but we will be able to understand this only after a second viewing. An obscure figure, a drowning man... Is this a young man dying on the threshold of his big life, or is this a warrior who completed his life path both for himself and for many other people?
We are at the beginning of the life cycle, and the lace in the foreground unequivocally reminds us of the umbilical cord. A boy who has just drowned is ready for his second birth...
Dimash's first message: we are born equal, pure, potentially good people. Children are an unwritten book in which life can fit any plot.
We see three friends who, as children, are full of nobility and courage (an older boy selflessly saves his friend), a thirst for knowledge of the world and a thirst to share these discoveries. However, already at these stages, the first signs of disagreement appear: a brave boy, pumping out a friend, looks for approval from a girl with his eyes. He wants to look like a hero in her eyes. But the girl does not notice this, her heart has already been given to another, and only his fate cares about her. That's the first disappointment of life - a feat will not make you a hero. You can't expect a fair reward from people. A friend may not meet your expectations.
What other disappointments will this boy know, who eventually transforms from a selfless young man into a ruthless and cynical dictator?
The amulet (the arrow of the solar clock showing both time and direction) has become a symbol of different ideas in the hands of our heroes. For a couple in love, it is a symbol of unity, indicating their common path (they have become a married couple, they have a daughter and a son will be born in the final). Another boy never accepted this amulet as a symbol of friendship (he does not wear it on his chest near his heart), he bent it in a fit of rage (thus the arrow stopped pointing the right way) and used this amulet upside down as a symbol of his false inverted ideals. He became a dictator (in the lyrics of the song - a Pied Piper, who draws children to destruction with the sounds of his lying flute).
Many years later we see that the Dictator unleashed a bloodbath in the name of his false ideals. Many believe that Dimash portrays the opposing side of Good to Evil. I see something else.
A patch on the sleeve of Dimash's character is poked into our eyes several times: a complex interweaving of sharp corners and circles. Dimash's character is not a leader, he is an ordinary soldier who has also taken some ideological side. What do these circles and angles represent? Who stands behind Dimash's character and pushes him into battle? Maybe he's protecting his city from invasion? Apparently not! Everything points to the fact that this is a civil war, because the action takes place in their hometown. All three of them lived in this city, and now they are feuding and destroying their home.
Waldenberg in this clip is the personification of the whole planet. We all live under the same sky. And in this sense, ANY WAR is a civil war, fueled by various but ALWAYS false ideas, including territorial claims. I think this is the second message of Dimash, directly following from the title of the clip.
Therefore, behind the back of Dimash's character is another exactly the same Pied Piper, with complex, confusing and false ideas pushing his followers into this meat grinder.
The plaque with the name of the city in Gothic script Waldenberg is a direct reference to the real German city of Waldenburg, completely destroyed by Allied troops during World War II, when there was no need at all, because by the end of the war there were mostly only women and children in this city. The one who was supposed to bring good brought evil.
Dimash's third message is that war has no good sides. All participants in wars are somehow agents of evil.
Is it an accident that Waldenburg translates as "The City of Waldemar"? Well, or Vladimir in the Slavic version. Both leaders of the modern confrontation are called Vladimir ...
Dimash certainly sympathizes with his character, he understands what exactly drives his hero, but does not justify his actions.
When his character, driven by anger, despair and revenge, comes to the Dictator for retribution, then a storm begins in a world where souls of different faiths, cultures, ethnicities, epochs who have chosen the road to light (good) have been walking along a thorny road for thousands of years of human history! Dimash's character, having killed his savior, thanks to whom he lived all these years, immediately receives karma in return and returns to the waters of nothingness, where he should have stayed many years ago. At the moment of death, the thirst for life gives him the last most powerful life lesson: acceptance of the idea of the primordial value of human life. FOR EVERYONE WITHOUT EXCEPTION! Even for a Dictator! Even for his daughter's murderers! This is the fourth very important message of Dimash. In a near-death epiphany, his hero sees in flashbacks the moments of his life, both bright (shots from his childhood) and unrighteous (shots of how he takes the lives of his opponents). Dimash's fifth message is to rethink your values, it's never too late to repent. It is this repentance that allows the soul of Dimash's character to transform and be reborn in the best version of himself. The waters into which our hero fell are also an allegory for amniotic fluid, an allegory of reincarnation in the body of his newborn son, who, having received such a powerful life attitude from his father, will never take up arms again and will not join any side of the conflict.
The soul of a warrior sinks to the bottom of Nothingness completely. All three characters die in this story at the same time, allowing a new soul to be born, giving hope for a better future for Humanity. Dimash is a Muslim, and he does not preach the idea of reincarnation. Reincarnation here is just a metaphor necessary to convey his messages.
The souls of the righteous, who once accepted the simple truth about the primary value of human life, raising their hands to the dazzling Light that flooded the horizon, meet their new follower, who joined their march towards Light and Goodness. He is an equal among them, who has accepted his mission as a shepherd, among others, each of whom carries his mission on this path: someone blows a horn, calling for unification, someone brings enlightenment to the masses (a book is a symbol of knowledge), someone carries his cross, and someone leaves the race unable to withstand the hardships of the way.
The fifth message of Dimash - the simple acceptance of the idea of renouncing weapons and violence will allow each of us to join this stream of righteous souls. Only when WE ALL join this stream, only then will the wars stop.
Dimash wrote the music and script for this video based on his own long-standing story. Everything we see and hear is the flesh of the flesh of feelings, thoughts, ideas of Dimash. Dimash is an ancient soul.

I really liked your review; I valued your insights.
    I have some comments.
The statement at the end was not written by Dimash; it was an excerpt from a document written by the Pope and another religion's (Islam, I think) leader and is appropriate for the message of the video. I think it's a bit like something written by a committee; Dimash's video is the artistic way to say it.
You speculated that because the 3 kids started together, it must be the environment and experiences that led to their separate paths. I think you should give more respect to innate temperamental differences that lead people to take different paths when having the same experiences. Thinking it's all environmental or all heredity is a mistake, I think.
You mentioned that turning to conflict is a right wing phenomenon. I think that must mean you are a left wing person and see 'your side' with rose colored glasses. Study history and I think you'll see that most sides (political, religious, ethnic, etc.) turn to and use conflict at various points. And sadly, those that didn't may have died out.
When you said that you imagined Dimash's character dropping his weapon in order to break the cycle, I agree that's a critical junction. And he took the common path. All the raging storm scene suggests conflicted emotions about the choice. How many of us are strong enough to try to stop the cycle? But to your point -- one person (especially a common man) alone usually is not in a key position to stop the larger cycle. And the majority is easily led. Could religion be a way out? Not so far; but we should keep trying to find a way.
Your point about 99% nuclear disarming being problematic is right on. But it's now much more than nuclear. We are developing much more power every day (biological weapons, cyber weapons, information control and propaganda etc.) and that can be used for destruction or just power.
You referenced a study with hens and suggest that human society could do better with such a spirit of cooperation. Several points. 1. It's been repeatedly tried and fails. Perhaps hens have a better innate nature than humans? 2. That's only one dimension studied and humans are probably controlling the whole hen ecosystem rather than reflecting the harsh reality of life in the wild. Other dimensions include technological progress. I suspect that many such advancements are not created by the cooperative types. So, what if the choice is to live in peace as a single small 'primitive' tribe in the savannah or to have 8 billion of us with all our diversity, wonders AND WAR? If that's the choice, I choose the later. If others choose the first, can they kill the rest of us as a short-term measure to get peace and ecological harmony? (have they made a movie about this yet? 12 Monkeys, for example)

At the start, after the tall boy, who later became the evil dictator, saved the smaller boy, the tall boy was given a pendant, not round his neck but in his hand. It was after the girl who clearly had feelings for Dimashes character told him she had no feelings for him, but she loved the other boy who grew to be the soldier we saw at the start under the boardwalk. Then we had our first look at the dictator, and the pendant was highlighted on his podium, still not round his neck. This is important as it shows his contempt for his former best friend.
During the war, the soldier returns home and finds it has been under attack. He enters and sees all his neighbours dead and wept for them. The small girl seen briefly in her mother's arms earlier in the video was his daughter. She was shot dead in the hallway, and the soldier then found her body discarded. He cradles her in his arms while screaming with grief and anger towards the tyrant in who's name she was murdered all whilst his wife, the best friend from his youth, gives birth to his second child, also screaming but with grief and expectancy of a new life. Meanwhile, a group of pilgrims of all religions are seeking a leader to take them to enlightenment are in the desert on their quest. Then we see the dictator with the necklace finally around his neck. He realised his wrongdoings would result in him meeting the soldier. He opens the gate to meet his nemesis and seals his fate. The soldier also accepts his and is killed by the opposing troops. The baby boy is given the pendant, and you next see the boy, now a man who came to lead the pilgrims finally into the light. Dimash 8n character screams with his last breath about choosing life, his vocals a so raw here. The last text is from the words if the head of the Muslim faith, and the Pope who met Dimash and presented him with a commemorative medal at the Congress of World Rekigions in Kazakhstan who were given the World Premier of the song.
Dimash came up with the whole idea for the Story of One Sky. He composed and produced the music and had his words put into English lyrics. He also wrote the screenplay and dialogue as well as acting and working closely with the director to make sure his vision was delivered perfectly. Everyone who worked with Dimash has saint how professional he is and that he is a delight to work with. Dimash always delivers, every time, but this work is art. It's a true masterpiece that needs to be seen the world over. Dimash promotes peace, love, and tolerance at every opportunity. He really is an inspiration to all. ❤ Thank you for your thoughts, you have understood what he was trying to say, mostly. I hope what I explained will cement your thoughts further.

This song is a "modern" multicultural interfaith Requiem (the traditional Requiem is a song for the Mass of the Dead in the Catholic Church. The best known requiem is by Mozart I think). The Requiem usually has 2 parts: one mourning death and the other celebrating life.
Dimash says in a low voice: Адам керуен, өмір жол. Man is a caravan, life is a road. (Kazakh proverb)
So for me, the caravan is his (and our) inner world. Religiosity is in us, the religious man dies when a part of the soldier (Dimash) dies when he finds his daughter dead. So when he seeks revenge, there's a storm. Death follows death: Piper dies but the soldier (Dimash) dies too. Death is not the answer. And so violence is not the way (You can murder the "bad guy" but if everybody thinks that violence is an answer, another "bad guy" will appear for sure.) And then we see that his son made a better decision... His son joins others in seeking peace. That is the final answer.
    Hug from Brazil 😍🇧🇷

  • @melbrod3868

There was childhood jealousy going on initially--The "bad guy" saves Dimash ( a good action), but when he looks at the girl, you can see that he is jealous that she is only concerned about Dimash. Later on the girl rejects him--moves away from him as he reaches toward her. He ends up staring out to the water when Dimash reaches out to give the medallion to him. And he never puts the necklace on.
So those emotions start early and we have some responsibility to control our own actions and reactions. It is not only (though there is likely other things that happened in the boy's life) what happened to the boy in the future that made him crave power and seek the destruction of others; deep angers and loves start early, even in children on the cusp of adulthood.

Yes.. This is like the current incident, not only Ukraine and Israel, we cannot side with just one country, Palestine is also suffering if you know what it started like... in Congo, Sudan, other countries in Afrika
We also have a responsibility to start peace, many of us are not aware and many of us are too ignorant about this, look at the problem from its roots because everything has a cause and effect..
This Dimash song brings peace, how we should live peacefully side by side in society and tolerance between religions and cultures

Congrats on the reaction! Well, some considerations:
    (1) Dimash composed the song and participated in the arrangement, in addition to acting in the mini-film. The lyrics of the song and Russian poet Lilia Vinogradova and the video direction by Alina Veripya!
    (2) The artifact that the boy found in the trunk and that was turned into necklaces is a "gnomon", a needle for a sundial (a rustic device for keeping time);
    (3) The name "Piper" (piper, or piper) is known as a synonym for "dictator", "despot": This originates from the tale of the "Pied Piper of Hamelin" (folk tale rewritten by the Brothers Grim), where a piper was hired to deal with the rat infestation of the city of Hamelin (Germany, 1284). After hypnotizing the rats with his magic flute and drowning them in the Weser, the artist went to collect the amount owed (one coin per head) and was not paid (they alleged that he did not present the "heads" of the rats). He then hypnotized one hundred and thirty children from the city of Hamelin and locked them in a cave. Yeah, well, the "pied piper" (also called "ratcatcher") has become synonymous with the tyrant who uses a mesmerizing speech and leads to death!
    (4) The term "Imagine" refers to the song of the same name by John Lennon;
    (5) The final text is part of the document generated at the 2019 Congress of World Religious Leaders and the music presented at the VII Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions, held in Nur-Sultan (Kazakhstan) on 14/09/2022 and was attended by of Pope Francis, representing the Catholic Church and who presented Dimash, on the occasion, with a medal of gratitude.

Your take on religion seems to be on point. Interestingly, the statement at the end of the video is from a joint document signed by Pope Francis and Sheikh Ahmed el-Tayeb (Grand Imam of Al-Azhar) in 2019: A Document on Human Fraternity for World Peace and Living Together
A side note, what currently is happening is not in Israel, it is in Gaza which is part of Palestine. That is where all the heavy damage, famine and death are happening. It is a cleansing of the Indigenous people to get more land for Israel, similar to what is happening in Ukraine but the people hardly have any power to fight back let alone survive the massive artillery aimed at the general population.

Dimash - Requiem: The Story of One Sky
This is really long and I get that you want to blow through it, however, it's by far the best explanation I have found. It was written by Heiderose Kober:
This is subtitled "Requiem” but it is also a vision and a call to action. Dimash is steeped in sacred music and has a deep understanding of the mystic teachings and symbolism of the major world religions as well as Kazakh shamanism. In the "vocalise" portion of this song there is, woven into the music, the Muslim call to prayer, the Jewish Shofar, the "om" of Buddhism and Hinduism, and the bells of the Christian church
It is not by coincidence that the first performance of this work took place on September 14, 2022, at the Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions in Kazakhstan.
The written statement at the end of the video is directly from the “Document on Human Fraternity for World Peace and Living Together” signed jointly on February 4, 2019, by Pope Francis and the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, Ahmad El-Tayeb. Dimash met and spoke with both men at the September meeting.
Everything Dimash does is intentional, and this piece has layers that would take a dissertation to unravel. I only touch on some of what struck me in the symbolism. The music is a dissertation all by itself.
The pendant is an interesting element. It is a gnomon from a maritime compass sundial. This triangular blade is attached to the sundial, casting a shadow on the sundial while the perforated pinhole projects the image of the sun onto the dial. It was used for both timekeeping and navigation, with the gnomon oriented to True North. (Thank you, Snarky Tart for that information).
In the MV, (the taller child) who later becomes the military commander, never puts on the necklace. After Dimash, (the drowning boy), gives his friend the pendant. The camera focuses on his hand and shows that his friend has bent the gnomon in anger over being rejected by the girl (later Dimash's Wife and the mother of his daughter who is killed). Thus bent, it can never be oriented to True North, and he has lost his moral l compass.
Later, we see a version of the gnomon as the military insignia on the uniforms of the commander and his soldiers, but distorted and without the hole that allows light to shine through rendering it useless as a compass. When we lose the original intent of a symbol by twisting it into something it is not or by just paying lip service, it no longer has any spiritual meaning. At best it becomes a useless prop, at worst it is used to mislead and manipulate people. Contemporary music is also present: With the phrase "We have passed the moment of Imagine," Dimash reminds us that we are past the sentiments evoked by the song "Imagine" by John Lennon.
It is time to stop dreaming about a world of peace and harmony. If we choose life, if we wish for peace, if we want a world without war for our children and grandchildren, we must act and take up the long hard path up the mountain towards the light. It is the only way.
The storyline is a very human one: we start as innocents until our hearts are broken, we fail, or our dreams are not realized. If in our pain and disappointment, we turn to anger and blame instead of acceptance, power instead of love, greed and envy instead of generosity, hatred instead of forgiveness, and revenge instead of justice, we sow the seeds for conflicts that can turn into war.
The Piper's call is seductive as it promises redress for our grievances, control over our circumstances, and power over those who thwarted us, and this appeals to our wounded ego. However, let's remember that the Piper is a symbolic figure of Death from the Middle Ages, often used as a metaphor for trusting and following charismatic but dangerous and malevolent leaders to certain death. Even if we resist, as the adult Dimash character does, we often employ the same methods and weaponry as the Piper, and thus those who fight back betray peace as well because peace cannot be won through violence.
That is the dilemma of those of us who did not start the war, who do not support the war, but are forced to respond in order to defend ourselves and those we love. How can we rid the world of evil without becoming what we fight against?
The burning sign "Waldenberg" is a reference to the end of WWII when the US Army destroyed the last of the resistance by the German Wehrmacht close to the end of the war in April 1945 in the part of Germany where I grew up. I have seen the aftermath of war as I was born a few years later when much of Germany was still in rubble. Waldenburg is only 28 miles from my hometown and was completely destroyed as you can see from the picture. Many of the dead in those bombed-out buildings were women and children. The good guys defeated evil but at what price?
War is not the answer. We must find better ways to keep evil in check. iowaculture.gov/.../American-troops-move-through
The last movement is powerful: The cries over the loss of a beloved child and the cries of giving birth to new life are presented as a call-and-response grounded by a powerful "Om" chant that creates a sacred space, reminding us that death and birth are both sacraments and are interwoven in the tapestry of life.
Dimash's vocalization and the pilgrims representing world religions and religious leaders, past and present, walking together shift the narrative toward the final conflict and finally redemption. When Dimash’s character decides to avenge the murder of his daughter, his state of consciousness is reflected in the darkening sky with lightning bolts of anger accompanying the storm of his emotions that buffets the pilgrims and hinder progress. The fog of war obscures the light.
When he is killed after exacting retribution, he is dropped back into the "sacred womb" of Earth, the ocean of love and mercy, and is cleansed of the old hatreds and grievances that only bring more death and suffering.
He breaks the wheel of endless war and suffering by choosing life. Dimash's scream of “we’re choosing life” is that of giving birth: the old earthly consciousness of an eye for an eye has to die to make way for a new spiritual consciousness that embraces all life. Soul is breaking free to return to its natural state of love and purity as exemplified by the images of the children and the newborn baby.
The blowing of the shofar signals God's mercy for humankind when it turns from wrong to right: in the Zohar, the book of Jewish mysticism, it says: “When human beings repent of their sins, they blow the shofar on earth. Its sound ascends On High and awakens the heavenly shofar, and so mercy is aroused, and judgment is removed.”
Reborn as a leader for peace and love, Dimash's character in the form of his son becomes a spiritual guide for all of mankind on our shared journey up the mountain towards the light of God, however we may interpret or name the divine. We are all on the same path, even if our personal narratives, cultural heritage, race, and spiritual orientations are very different from one another. By focusing on our common destination rather than on our differences, we can walk together in peace and love and mutual respect.
Carl Jung wrote: “Knowing your own darkness is the best method for dealing with the darkness's of other people. One does not become enlightened by imagining figures of light, but by making the darkness conscious. The most terrifying thing is to accept oneself completely. Your visions will become clear only when you can look into your own heart. Who looks outside, dreams: who looks inside, awakes.”
This is what Dimash has done with this work; he has made the darkness conscious. We can only raise our individual and collective consciousness by bringing to light what needs to be healed in our lives and our world, and then we need to work together to restore wholeness to what is broken and bring about peace and unity, one step at a time. We don’t have to wait. We can start right now. As the hymn tells us: "Let there peace in the world, and let it begin with me." Baraka Bashad.

YOU DID OK. Missed a lot, but it's impossible to understand the whole video in one try. I'm sending you the most detailed reading of this masterpiece. Read it, then watch the video again - with a completely different pair of eyes and ears.
“This is subtitled “Requiem”, but it is also a vision and a call to action.
Dimash is steeped in sacred music and has a deep understanding of the music teachings and symbolism of the major world religions as well as Kazakh shamanism. It is not by coincidence that the first performance of this work took place on September 14 at the Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions. The written statement at the end of the video is directly from the “Document on Human Fraternity for World Peace and Living Together”, signed jointly on February 4, 2019, by Pope Francis and the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, Ahmed el-Tayeb. Dimash met and spoke (and received a medal from Pope Francis for his contributions to the World of Peace) with both men at the September meeting.
Everything Dimash does is intentional, and this piece has layers that would take a dissertation to unravel. Let's touch on some of what struck me.
1 The pendant is an interesting element. It is a gnomon from a maritime compass sundial. This triangular blade is attached to the sundial, casting a shadow on the sundial, while the perforated pinhole projects the image of the sun onto the dial. It was used for both timekeeping and navigation, with the gnomon oriented to True North. In the Music Video, the child who later becomes the military commander never puts on the necklace. After Dimash, the boy, gives his friend the pendant, the camera focuses on his hand and shows that his friend has bent the gnomon in anger over being rejected by the girl. Thus bent, it can never be oriented to True North, and he has lost his moral compass. Later, we see a version of the gnomon, but distorted and without the hole that allows light to shine through, as the military insignia on the uniforms of the commander and his soldiers.
2 Contemporary music is also present: with the phrase “We have passed the moment of Imagine”, Dimash reminds us that we are past the sentiments evoked by the song “Imagine” by John Lennon. It is time to stop dreaming about a world of peace and harmony. If we choose life, if we wish for peace, if we want a world without war for our children and grandchildren, we must act and take up the long hard path up the mountain towards the light. It is the only way.
3 The storyline is a very human one: we start as innocents until our hearts are broken, we fail, or our dreams are not realized. If in our pain and disappointment we turn to anger and blame instead of acceptance, power instead of love, greed and envy instead of generosity, hatred instead of forgiveness, and revenge instead of justice, we sow the seeds for conflicts that can turn into war.
4 The Piper’s Call is seductive as it promises redress for our grievances, control over our circumstances, and power over those who thwarted us, and this appeals to our wounded ego. However, let’s remember that the Piper is a symbolic figure of Death from the Middle Ages, often used as a metaphor for trusting and following charismatic but dangerous and malevolent leaders to certain death. Even if we resist, as the adult Dimash character does, we often employ the same methods and weaponry as the Piper, and thus those who fight back betray peace as well because peace cannot be won through violence. That is the dilemma of those of us who did not start the war, who do not support war, but are forced to respond in order to defend ourselves and those we love. How can we rid the world of evil without becoming what we fight against?
5 The burning sign “Waldenburg” is a reference to the end of WWII, when the US Army destroyed the last of the resistance by the German Wehrmacht to end the war in April of 1945. Many of the dead were women and children, because all men ages 15 through 75 were mobilized. So, the good guys defeated evil, but at what price?
6 The last movement is powerful: The cries over the loss of a beloved child and the cries of giving birth to new life are presented as a call-and-response grounded by a powerful Om chant that creates a sacred space, reminding us that death and life are both sacraments and are interwoven. Dimash’s vocalization and the pilgrims representing world religions and religious leaders, past and present, walking together shift the narrative toward the final conflict and finally redemption. When Dimash’s character decides to avenge the murder of his daughter, his state of consciousness is reflected in the darkening sky with lightning bolts of anger accompanying the storm of his emotions that struck the pilgrims sharply. The fog of war obscures the light. When he is killed after exacting retribution, he is dropped back into the “sacred womb” of Earth, the ocean of love and mercy and is cleansed of the old hatreds and grievances that only bring more death and suffering. He breaks the wheel of endless war by choosing life. Dimash’s scream “We’re choosing life” is that of giving life: the old earthly consciousness of an eye for an eye has to die to make way for a new spiritual consciousness that embraces all life. Soul is breaking free to return to its natural state of love and purity as exemplified by the images of the children and the newborn baby.

We are all on the same path, even if our personal narratives, cultural heritage and spiritual orientations are very different from one another. By focusing on our common destination rather than on our differences, we can walk together in peace and love and mutual respect. Dimash is showing us how.
Carl Jung, a Swiss psychiatrist and psychoanalyst who founded analytical psychology, wrote: “Knowing your own darkness is the best method for dealing with the darknesses of other people. One does not become enlightened by imagining figures of light, but by making the darkness conscious. The most terrifying thing is to accept oneself completely. Your visions will become clear only when you can look into your own heart. Who looks outside, dreams; who looks inside, awakes.”

We don’t have to wait. We can start right now. This is Dimash’s message to those in power. He urges them to follow their hearts. He tells them that nothing that exists is, or could ever be, outside of God. We are never outside of God - and never without God within us.

I think Dimash is telling the leaders of various religions to be part of the solution rather than part of the problem, as you were also saying. Even if we have very different beliefs, we can still treat each other with dignity as fellow human beings. I also thought that Dimash was going to put down the gun the first time I saw this. And it's extra sad because to me it looked like the "bad guy" just before he opened the gate, was starting to think about what he was doing and remembering his childhood as he looked at the symbol. I wonder if he opened the gate because he was hoping to start some sort of talk with his childhood friend. The one whose life he had saved so many years ago. That bit at the very end can also be seen as the baby grown up and choosing to work with others and to lead others in their search for the light and for a better way to live. To me that scream under the water sounded like absolute defiance against all the wrongs and evil in the world. We WON'T go along with them, we WILL choose LIFE no matter what!🇨🇦

There is no doubt that war is wrong. Provocation of war through acts of violence is also wrong. I’m always gutted by this incredible masterpiece and Dimash’s ability to bring people together. The editor did a great job with your video as well. There is a point that has been referenced often as well that “Piper” (the leader) was enamoured by the young girl and was watching her while saving the boy who would become Dimash. You should - on your own if you wish - watch one of the recordings of Dimash singing this live: I’d suggest the Almaty concert where it premiered. Peace from Canada.

Geographically close, having visited both countries several times, with close friends in both Ukraine and Russia, Dimash understands more deeply than we do the pain and horror of war...Perhaps you as a psychologist can explain to us why, sharing the same childhood, in the same paradisiacal setting of the beach, one of the children reacts in a diametrically different way from the others, angrily twisting the symbol of friendship between his fingers. It's like that. There are so many people with unelaborated conflicts since childhood, which twist their personality to different degrees of severity. Who can believe that war serves to unite Humanity? However, right now, there is some leader who preaches that this war is to cleanse the depravity of the West...and many believe him.Do we have salvation ? I hope so. There is Someone who had all the power of Heaven and yet took forgiveness to the extreme of offering his life on a cross... and there is a good, pure, healthy youth like that of Dimash who seeks Peace. The problem is ours, if we don't know, or we don't want to listen to them...

I think Dimash’s genius is in leaving enough vagueness for everyone to interpret this work from various perspectives while embedding so many symbols and allusions.
By the way, the final statement is a quote from the document on human fraternity signed in 2019 by Pope Francis and Sheikh Tayeb the Grand Imam of al-Azhar

When Dimash sings, “We are past the moment of Imagine”, which is in quotes, it is in reference to John Lennon’s song. We are past the moment of imagining a better world and we have to act now. Thanks Dr. Nic.

Dr Nic, I believe you missed something in the earliest part of the story when it is just the three children. Yes, they are all innocent and happy, but even then the seeds of discord are being sown. The three children are Piper (the one who turns out to be the leader of the opposition), the drowning boy (Dimash's character) whose life is saved by Piper. And the girl, who becomes adult Dimash's wife and mother of his children (their little girl is killed and their little boy is being born almost as his father - Dimash - dies) OK, now notice their interactions. Piper saves drowning Dimash and performs CPR. As he is doing this he is occasionally looking up at the girl to see if she is noticing him and what he is doing. But she never looks at him, only at Dimash-- worried if he will breathe again. When the three are walking down the beach, Dimash finds the chest in the boat and looks through it. While Piper and the girl are first chasing each other and then having a serious conversation. It seems like Piper wants her to choose him. But she doesn't instead she runs to rejoin Dimash. Now as to the "symbol" that Dimash discovers in the chest and put on cords for the three of them to wear. It is the gnomon of a sundial compass It helps in pointing you in the right/correct direction. When Dimash gives Piper his gnomon, at first Piper doesn't want to take it and after Dimash places it in his hand Piper closes his hand into a fist and distorts it. Later this "corrupted" gnomon becomes the symbol for his authoritarian regime (see the partial symbol on the flag and the podium). So Piper is already being twisted as a child by jealousy of the girl choosing Dimash over him. Because of that he begins to break away for both of them, but certainly Dimash. So he is already veering off the right path!
