Part 3 • GUY RITCHIE. THE STORY...
Guy Ritchie is a genius of the British New Wave. Brash editing and hilarious dialogues are his calling card. Each British crime comedy is compared to his films Snatch and Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels. He created a new genre and pushed the invisible limits of potential for dozens of excellent actors. Now it’s time to get to know Guy better and immerse ourselves in the beautiful world of cinema. In this first part, we will talk about the beginning of Ritchie’s artistic journey, his marriage to Madonna, and his ability to show London in a way no one else can. So, stop reading this and get watching!

@@v-trigger6137 I think that there have been some great gangster movies in recent years, but the genre has evolved over time. Society's perception of crime, criminals, and violence has changed, and filmmaker are reflecting this shift in their work. Filmmakers are exploring new themes, going beyond the typical "good guy vs. bad guy" storyline, and trying to bring more depth to their characters. Additionally, there may not be as many real-life gangsters to draw inspiration from as there were in the past. Finally, there are likely many other movie genres competing for our attention now, so the market for gangster movies may have become smaller. However, with the right story, talented actors and a skilled director, I'm sure we'll continue to see great gangster movies in the future.

@@ItzSJbro I don't think Revolver or any of the films that OP mentioned were based on real life life gangsters, infact they weren't even a pure gangster focused films. the films that the OP mentioned, used the the gangsters part as only a backdrop, in a much more unconventional or surrealistic plot. And wdym filmmakers are exploring new themes?. and these films already explored new themes beyond the good vs bad guy

I watched this years ago and then watched it again last night and realized this is a deep philosophical and psychological film about becoming and developing your master. I might call it The Master Game (a book actually). The movie is difficult to follow and moves quickly at times, but the chess scene needs watching over and over. The task involved in this game is life-long and keep coming back to it. But it's deep and can't be taken lightly. I rate this movie as good as it gets for inflicting deep thought about who you really are. Few will like it, though. It's not easy.

Plot 2 the main theme and over arching message of the film. (A battle with the devil)
Plot 3 the one only implied but very obvious to those the message was meant for.

This film can be viewed in several different ways, I believe Jake’s in the spirit world (a place u go when u die, but may not be aware u have died or just been transported there as it mirrors the “normal” world but it more malleable. It’s a place inhabited by angels (and demons) and used to teach and test deceased human souls before they graduate / allowed in the higher heavenly realm’s or thrown into the lower depths. His two mentors are his guides/guardian angels. Be interested if anyone agrees/disagrees or wants to expand on this theory. The only thing missing here is Jesus, asides this it’s a very Christian film although I seem to recall Ritchie was dabbling with Kabbalah (Jewish mysticism) around that time which would certainly explain why there was no mention of Christ.
I believe if we die without having heard the gospel we are given a second chance in that Spirit World to accept Jesus as Lord, but there’s a bit of a cleaning and grasping process to undergo before we are ready to enter The Kingdom. Or we can reject it, no one is dragged into heaven shouting and screaming along the way
“No one sees Gold (God), but God sees EVERYTHING” (Guy even got the Scottish accent dude to pronounce it so it’s “Gooood” lol 😂 ) but what’s cleaver is depending on where u are in life Mr Gold could also be your ego or the devil. Guys masterpiece

Well played Mickey Rourke. Dodged a bullet by committing to another project.
This is the very definition of a self-indulgent film that was inevitably going to garner mixed reactions. That’s about as nice a thing as I can say about this movie.
Not even sure I understand the story but the themes presented within it don’t resonate with me in the slightest. I detest this film at a cellular level - not been able to sit through it even once since I saw it at the cinema.
Perhaps I hold RocknRolla in greater esteem than it truly deserves because it’s the film he released first after this one and I was just so relieved that I liked it.

Besides you, who is speaking of the cellular composition of film?
Regardless, that all sounds very basic. Perhaps I’ve given the piece too much credence …
Revised view: It’s a turd of a picture with a truly bollocks message (and this view is coming from a BSc Psychology graduate who is positively offended by this movie’s attempts at a quack psychology “message”). If you enjoyed the movie Revolver, it reflects poorly on you as a human being, especially your intellect.
That’s opposed to a film that just really doesn’t resonate with me.
You win though, have it your way - much easier for me. I can stop giving the movie second chances (whilst I fruitlessly look for redeeming features). Perhaps give my cells a rest? Just have a fixed opinion on it for the rest of my life. Box it off as a “crap film” and pay it no more mind.
      Many thanks.

Just watched Revolver again last night after multiple times of stopping it midway through and yep it still blows much like most of Guy's films. He makes movies like a teenage boy who thinks hes cool and hard but really is just a laughable satire of what they think they are projecting. Glad he did not get his hands on Layer Cake which would have been destroyed by him. There is a reason people have dropped Guy and this is that reason. You expect a writers and directors to grow but does not look like he will never grow out of the muck that created him....
