      So aspirin binds to COX-2 enzymes so completely it doesn't unbend (ibuprofen and other NSAIDS do unbind) the prostaglandin cascade is very long but in short it increases lymphatic draining to the area, signals macrophages to enter the area, and also signals other cells to produce prostaglandins, out of curiosity if there was a channel that did this stuff in detail would you/anyone think it useful?

    Thanks. I’m into pain but would like to get out of it. I have chronic widespread pain and there seems to be little relief. That’s no fun and causes many other problems. Doctors are no help, so I am trying to learn and experiment on my own. I appreciate any input I can get.

    So to save the trouble: all NSAIDs work pretty much the same way as aspirin. The "mode of action" is almost the same. (Pharmacodynamics).The difference is in the pharmacokinetics: how the body deals with absorbing, distribution, metabolism, eliminating the Rx.

    But what happens in the body when the aspirin wears off?? Does it disappear, get absorbed or does the cell reject the molecules??
    And how does it work when talking about chronic pain, like with nerve pain, arthritis in hard to reach spots, like the sacroiliac joint....
    I would love a video on nervepain specifically...

    • @Bldyiii
      @Bldyiii 8 років тому +1

      Sabina Hertzum aspirin irreversibly inhibits COX1&2. The enzyme is essentially removed as waste product with the drug in it. Your body then makes more COX. enzyme. Naproxen & Ibuprofen are reversible however and the body eliminates the drug but not the enzyme. COX enzymes have various functions including gastrointestinal protection so by taking too much of NSAIDs you can run into trouble.

      Oh i know that - I have Crohn's disease and had my colon removed 15 years ago - was early diagnosed with Colitis and was operated for that, and after 6 healthy years I got sick again and that's when I found out I had Crohn's....
      I haven't been able to use NSAID for 18 years - I get Methadone for my arthritis and nervepain...
      I just asked because I've been interested in the process because of my own health ;)

      Leonid Denisenko - thank you - they do an ok job - by choice I'm not completely pain free but I make it work - my intent wasn't to seek sympathy - I really just wanted to explain where the question came from - but my health is not easily or shortly explained so I always end up telling a bunch....
      But my health is also why I like these videos - there are loads of things I'd like to hear about, that is hard to get an explanation about that I can understand and retain because of my medication - videos just work great for me as an educational tool ;)

      Totally understand where you're coming from. I'm a Pharmacy student & intern (not trying to show off lol). Of course I don't know your situation or what its like to be in your shoes, but try to always be compassionate. The info out there is often wrong or needlessly convoluted. If you have the time, speak to your pharmacist about the meds. they're usually more than happy to give you any info you'd like.

    Aspirin is a non-selective COX inhibitor. It inhibits COX-1 (which does the same thing more or less) as well. This lack of selectivity isn't particularly relevant for inflammatory pain but is relevant for cardiovascular and stomach lining effects.
    For the purposes of the video it might have been better to just say "COX" without specifying the type since selectivity (or lack thereof) doesn't really matter here.

    A highly-detailed one about birth control would be insightful. Many users don't understand how the different kinds actually work, and even which situations each should be used in, such as the difference in The Pill and various Morning After pills. For instance, there's a solo pill that's meant to prevent ovulation, but is commonly misunderstood as preventing implantation-- a pretty huge difference in usage!
