Orks have an enormous advantage in aerial dogfights because their tough physiology means they don't feel G-forces like human pilots. They can make truly unpredictable moves that would be suicidal to an Imperial ace and carry on laughing as they do.

@@tanimations5879In Fire Caste Imperial force did extensively use waterborne assets against Tau. Most of them are patrol boats armed with heavy weapons but there are some mentioned of warships as well, one of them is Battleship-Aircraft carrier hybrid iirc.

In a way, it's already here : Warhammer 40k Dakka Squadron, Flyboy edition. It's available on Steam with a demo. A short but good game, orky soundtrack, a lot of custorkmisation (including color... but no pink^^). And no need for a plane joystick to play it. Your mouse is enough and I think it's more natural than with an Xbox controller. (IIRC, the game was for phone at first with finger control, but got upgraded for computer and everything was updated accordingly)

To an imperial guardsman, what is an incredible sacrifice for a real world human is just an occupational requirement/hazard. These guys go fucking hard, they don't even flinch when they fight the orks.
Skystrike Missiles are a thing, but they aren't commonly employed by Thunderbolts, and definitely wouldn't be here, since this is a world that's been strapped for resources for a while now.

@@ProjectTaker Just a genuine guess, but maybe because our real world missiles have an increasing amounts of AI like the Iron Dome above Israel. As AI rebelled, maybe missiles were banned wholesale alongside the AI. Tau still use AI as they havent had the warp problems with it yet, so maybe thats why they have such a huge amount of missiles.

There's been a couple of versions of Aeronautica Imperialis. You can still get the latest version although the setting's recently been moved to the Horus Heresy from the 41st millennium.
I'd like to think that the imperium has plenty of bvr missiles they equip their aircraft with and just win every air battle they engage in but stick to ww2 dogfighting because it's what the emperor would have wanted.
