(IIRC, the game was for phone at first with finger control, but got upgraded for computer and everything was updated accordingly)

There's been a couple of versions of Aeronautica Imperialis. You can still get the latest version although the setting's recently been moved to the Horus Heresy from the 41st millennium.

@@ProjectTaker Just a genuine guess, but maybe because our real world missiles have an increasing amounts of AI like the Iron Dome above Israel. As AI rebelled, maybe missiles were banned wholesale alongside the AI. Tau still use AI as they havent had the warp problems with it yet, so maybe thats why they have such a huge amount of missiles.

I can t help but notice some the similarities between WWII Grumman carrier planes and the Ork jets, maybe its just the general shape and circular nose but they just look too much like F4Fs to me
I'd like to think that the imperium has plenty of bvr missiles they equip their aircraft with and just win every air battle they engage in but stick to ww2 dogfighting because it's what the emperor would have wanted.
Theoretically speaking? Aircraft often are forced to skimp on armour in order to save weight. Planes have been downed by geese getting sucked into the turbine, a large, high velocity bullet can absolutely do some damage.
