Not entering the contest (I'm personally more into water colors) but as someone who has only had k-12 art classes, these videos are so kind and helpful for getting people started and staying encouraged. Everything I know about art I've had to look up and a lot of people don't like giving tips or are incredibly vague so this is super awesome of you to do!
As an incoming freshman majoring in art next year, I would definitely not mind having a whole charcoal set! I'm currently taking 2 advanced art classes at my school and my teacher has a hard time getting mediums and canvases for us to use, so having a charcoal set would definitely benefit me :) I never in my life won a contest/giveaway and would be truly blessed if I got chosen. As much as I got excited about entering the contest. I feel a bit terrible that there are many young fellas who probably cannot buy art supplies because maybe their parents are struggling with money. Hey ;) um I'm just a beginning artist I'm 14 , I have always drawn every since I was little , but I started taking it seriously 2 years ago . At first I just drew on scrap paper and used pencil as a media , the I started to keep my drawings in a binder , I started to look up how to - videos on drawing and discovers Copic markers , prismacolor pencils and digital art , over the years I practiced really hard at getting better at marker and colered pencils ;) and recently I got a Wacom intous for Christmas , which I am very thankful for !! I discovered your channel through another artist Channel and loved your advice you gave , helped me through some drawing blocks !!! I really got interested in charcoal , from your cat video !!!! It just amazed me !!!!! I was already planing to slowly star to collect the supply's , when I got birthday money , but it would really be helpful to me if I won all of the supply's and just got stated ;) my favorite thing to draw is people , made up characters and book characters . Thank for starting this contest , and the u tube channel , it helped me a lot !! I actually just started to get into charcoal and been practicing for about three months now and I really enjoy it, that is actually how I found your channel because I was looking for tutorials. I would love to continue charcoal drawing but because of the shortage of money I am not able to purchase a lot, I am currently only using vine charcoal because I am out of compressed charcoal. it would be amazing if I won but if not keep making videos because I learn so much you!!! thank you and happy drawing :)
I'm really into drawing portraits of people and animals, I'm self taught and been drawing since 3rd grade. I absolutely love drawing, sometimes I don't even do my homework because I'm busy drawing lol (sad but true). I'm best at graphite but I'm multitalented (painting, charcoal, graphite ect.) and I love the feeling of charcoal, especially when I have to shade the whole paper to make a background of my drawing (I love it because it's fun and messy, and I feel free when I use it). I'll show you, on Instagram, a charcoal portrait of my cat (it's my first and I think it's really good :)..drawing actually helped me with my depression in middle school and I just love it bc it gets my mind away from the bad things in the world and the stress.

Wow, that's really nice of you to give those supplies away awww. I just started practicing on charcoal, and gosh, it is suuuuper hard. I already went through one box of vine charcoal stick thingies, because I kept ruining every sketch haha how sad. What I mainly draw is portraits, so pulling out the lights and shades wtih charcoal is definitely a challenge. Hopefully I'll get better eventuallyyyyy
Hello Heather! I just wanted to say that you're channel is super fantastic (I'm not just trying to kiss up, haha). I'm not going to go into a long spiel about how my family doesn't support me or I don't have money to buy supplies or whatever, I just wanted to concentrate on the positive :) The main reason why I create art isn't for me at all (well, maybe a bit). My purpose with my art and with my life is to bring beauty and love to people who don't have that, to make something beautiful so that other people can sense that and appreciate the subject. While I'm not a significant artist or even a great artist, all I want to do with my art and with my life is to spread the beauty that I see in everything. Not necessarily always creating something obviously beautiful, but something that people would stare at and ponder over. The fact is that amazing things are all around us: in emotions, in expressions, in important events, and in the mundane. Specifically, I want to create realistic portraits; to show the human complexity and how no one is really who you think they are, how each person has a soul and overlapping emotions. Hey Heather, Thank-you so much for specifying all the products is very useful when we get to see them. I already purchase de generic charcoal pencil brand that you recommended to me they are great. But still I have problems when using them because it is a little different than drawing with pencils. In the future hope to se more videos that could solve my problem ;) BTW I have the same problem of @Pan Art is so difficult to blend and please tell me were else can I find the Faber-caster perfection eraser pencil, because I live in Puerto Rico and we don't have a Michael store.
Hi! I am 11 and will be in February 12. I went to an art store and I couldn't find any off those things!!! I really want to start drawing with charcoal, I love trying new things out! I draw manga and a bit of realistic aswel! I use copic markers! Hi!!! I'm 14 and suffering from a mental disorder. I'm not trying have people pity me but drawing for me is helping so so much! I spend hours of the day just clearing my thoughts and either drawing, painting, or writing. I'm relaxed but concentrated on what doing. My mind is clear of the days worries and it reassures me that everything will be okay:) I started to draw again when my moms friend got me a gift card to Micheals and I saw all the art supplies. My art teacher mentioned she thinks I'd be good with charcoal. So I picked some up and I LOVE IT. I love blending and the sense of I'm drawing is real:) I have a family of 7 and we always have a low budget. The next time I shop for supplies will probably be for my birthday which is in December. You should mention you can ALWAYS print out a 20% off entire purchase (including sale items), AND a 40% off a single non-discounted item from the Michael's website. It says you can only use them once daily, but you can use BOTH at the same time. Also I'd recommend learning how to sharpen your charcoal pencils with a razor blade. It allows you to to have a giant edge to shade and a very fine point. It"s annoying to learn, but once you do it, you'll never want to sharpen the standard way again. Don't be surprised if you break a few tips while you get the hang of it, we all went through it. It's like a charcoal artist rite of passage lol. Great video, thanks for the suggestions and the super-convenient printable list. *Edit* just realized this is a four year old video, you probably already know about razor sharpening by now haha

I am 16 and I love art! These materials would really help me out because honestly I don't have a real job because I hate doing any work besides art. That said though in my very small town I am going to be starting to teach kids art and one of my students that can't afford the classes will be taught for free. But since you posted this video and I have a chance of winning I would give this art supplies to the student who can't afford much in my drawing class for an added bonus. It would also really help me seeing as I don't have all the money in the world to buy the supplies needed for my students. :) p.s I do realism and a bit of abstract, representational, and surreal work. But I will be teaching kids a variety of that in my classes. :)

I also need the right materials but my aunt was the one who helped me to buy all I needed (since my parents don't think art is something worth spending time and money in it) and now that she is not having time to help me it makes everything harder. I want art to be my job and I'm working hard to do my school obligations and practice my drawing but I need someone to help me. Thank you for the oportunity! ^-^

Wow, when I was a kid we'd walk through the woods to gather twigs and vines. Then we'd pot them in a cookie ton and throw the tin in a fire. After it cooled we'd open it and divide the lot. Free charcoal for everyone for life.

Hey there thanks for doing a giveaway because i haven't cone across someone who's done a art supplies giveaway which will be more beneficial to me than makeup for example. Im from the UK by the way so i wanted to know if the giveaway was international . If it is well id like win it because I've used charcoal a couple times in class and really enjoyed it because of how its more 'free' and versatile i guess. I want to try use it some more and see if i can improve and how i can use it to create various drawin i wouldnt be able to with other art materials.I dont study art as a subject anymore so i dont really have access to materials especially those from the US and i don't want to use up my mums money repeatedly for art materials you know . And most of the time, I can't afford myself even the basic stuff... but hey, I learned that if you want to be artist, supplies are not the most important thing (some people draw on sand... xD), so I come around somehow... I'm not sure where you live, but there must be a real art supply store somewhere near you. Michaels is not an actual art supply store, they sell arts & crafts. In a proper store, you'll find a better selection, at much better prices. you will also find artists & enthusiasts just like you, as opposed to staff full of part-timers working for minimum wage. I do like your videos though, keep making them.

U ought to try Faber-Castell charcoal. They have lampblack in their compressed charcoal pencils and crayons -the crayons are amazing!

I am 16 and I love art! These materials would really help me out because honestly I don't have a real job because I hate doing any work besides art. That said though in my very small town I am going to be starting to teach kids art and one of my students that can't afford the classes will be taught for free. But since you posted this video and I have a chance of winning I would give this art supplies to the student who can't afford much in my drawing class for an added bonus. It would also really help me seeing as I don't have all the money in the world to buy the supplies needed for my students. :) p.s I do realism and a bit of abstract, representational, and surreal work. But I will be teaching kids a variety of that in my classes. :)

Hi Heather! I'm 13 and love art. I spend my free time practing and watching tutorials but I know it's not enough. I also need the right materials but my aunt was the one who helped me to buy all I needed (since my parents don't think art is something worth spending time and money in it) and now that she is not having time to help me it makes everything harder. I want art to be my job and I'm working hard to do my school obligations and practice my drawing but I need someone to help me. Thank you for the oportunity! ^-^
So anyways, my keyboard is weird xD, charcoal would be the perfect technique to express the mean and strong way of old italian gangsters, the black and white contrast shoul work very well, so thank you for this great chance that you give us and your videos rock!! XDD
Wow, when I was a kid we'd walk through the woods to gather twigs and vines. Then we'd pot them in a cookie ton and throw the tin in a fire. After it cooled we'd open it and divide the lot. Free charcoal for everyone for life.

I absolutely love drawing in general because don't you ever just get lost in time? I guess it keeps my mind off things and honestly it makes my dreams a visual reality. Hey there thanks for doing a giveaway because i haven't cone across someone who's done a art supplies giveaway which will be more beneficial to me than makeup for example. Im from the UK by the way so i wanted to know if the giveaway was international . If it is well id like win it because I've used charcoal a couple times in class and really enjoyed it because of how its more 'free' and versatile i guess. I want to try use it some more and see if i can improve and how i can use it to create various drawin i wouldnt be able to with other art materials.I dont study art as a subject anymore so i dont really have access to materials especially those from the US and i don't want to use up my mums money repeatedly for art materials you know . Anyways thanks for doing this again and keep making videos ! Ps i kinda am trying to improve my painting skills and i love your vids so if you do use paint quite a bit in your artwork would it be possible to do a couple of videos on technique?

First of all, thank you for hosting this giveaway and this video was very helpful. :) I have been drawing ever since I was a little kid, but my biggest problem is that here, in my country, it's really hard to find good art supplies and they are very, very expensive. And most of the time, I can't afford myself even the basic stuff... but hey, I learned that if you want to be artist, supplies are not the most important thing (some people draw on sand... xD), so I come around somehow... I usually draw portraits, and I really want to try it with charcoal... :) Oh,and you didn't say if this giveaway is international or not, so I'm hoping it is xDD

Hey, it's really good to see what you use for doing charcoal drawings. I would love to win the giveaway as i really want to get into charcoal drawings and some of the things you've mentioned would cost me quite a bit in the UK (hope that doesn't count me out because i'm in the UK), i like drawing portraits mainly (using pencil/coloured pencilsl) but never tried charcoal yet. *fingers crossed* i get too :)
Have you tried getting these materials from The Works? You won't get the Strathmore paper there, but the charcoal etc might be available.

I would like to learn to draw in charcoal as well as pencil, but when watching video's it's hard to follow step by step. I'm not sure where you live, but there must be a real art supply store somewhere near you.
Michaels is not an actual art supply store, they sell arts & crafts.
In a proper store, you'll find a better selection, at much better prices. you will also find artists & enthusiasts just like you, as opposed to staff full of part-timers working for minimum wage.
I do like your videos though, keep making them.
