Really useful video, packed with helpful information. Thank you Zin, we are big fans! I now have a jar for sanding charcoal pencils into - before I was doing it straight into the bin! I also didn't realise that a longer blade helps prevent lead breakages
Great video. Question. I've started using charcoal and learning. What do you do with loose dust on your drawing? I blow mine away. Then start coughing because of dust in air. Also what do you use as a fixative and or can I use one? Thank you so much. ☺
How do you reserve your charcoal drawing? Could you do a video showing how do that? Do you use fixative to spray? How many times are sufficient and how do you know?
I spray fixative by the spray bottle draw big circles in the air. Start spraying light and continue doing it until no charcoal is apart from drawing. You can find many of useful 'how to spray fixative' videos at You Tube.
I have a question. Why don't you trust what the pencil label says the grade of charcoal is within it? Is there a specific reason for dealing with the company, or just your own preference?
Thanks much as always. Loved your demonstration of sharpening. Can I ask what brand of knife that you use. I don't believe I've seen it anywhere. Thanks!
Hi Zin, I really like your style and your videos have helped me a lot. However, I bought willow charcoal (artist's loft) and it just seems to scratch the paper and not be very good. The willow charcoal you have seems so easy to put down and to take off the paper. Have you ever had any problems with your charcoal? The only way I can get the general's brand of the jumbo willow charcoal is through amazon and I just want to be sure it will different if I order some.
Can you please tell me the brand names of the pencil you are using. And if you have the link , can you please upload it here because it's difficult to find in local market.
Hey ...i really likes you art skills and the way to draw ......the only thing is that i you were able to add some voice interaction in your videos then it may he more convenient..take it as a suggestion .....and thanks
Excellent demonstration of the tools. Best that I've seen.

Pencil powder won't be easily erased with eraser. So I collect charcoal powder only.

sharpened Nitram charcoal sticks.
Very useful video.. Thank you!

I don't blow but let them drip. And use workable fixative.
Zin Lim ..”let them drip”?
Drip usually refers to liquid things.
Do you ever use a soft brush to remove excess dust?

Each General HB pencil has different darkness and hardness.
Nice

Any cheapest knife at hardware store, discount stores or Daiso is fine.
Zin Lim Thank you
Do you have a brand for that blade. I can’t seem to find one since I first watched this video.

I doubt about the tool if it is really willow, not compressed or chunky charcoal. You can send me your work image to zinlim@gmail.com for me to tell.
Can you tell for large areas of why do you use fingers and not brushes??
I like to touch paper and charcoal with my finger.
Thank you for the video. One question: do you use Nitram charcoal? Soft batons maybe? Cheers.
+ernestito2222
I used willow that seems very similar to nitram.
Thank you, great info.
Thanks for watching!!!

Sometimes, idk how correct this is, I use a cheap metal sharpener that the left over stuff falls out of over the paper and use it as charcoal powder.

What cloth to draw? com charcoal
Sorry I don't get it.

This would have been a beneficial video if the music hadn't ruined it. Certain repetitive tones are terrible for auto sensitivity
