    What's your recommended gear setup for fly fishing Jurassic Lake?

    • @Wish4Fish
      @Wish4Fish  2 роки тому +1

      I would take a 8wt or 7wt with floating line as well as a 5wt or 6wt with floating line.
      As you saw, you have the opportunity for dry fly action so I highly recommend trying it out.
      If I don't mention it in the video, you can always see my gear I used in the description box below.

      @@Wish4Fish awesome to know and great video of amazing fish. My last question just because I didn't here or see it mentioned in the description, what size leader are you using. Would a 4x 9ft tapered leader work well or would I need a stronger leader?

    • @Wish4Fish
      @Wish4Fish  2 роки тому

      "x" more like POUNDS. I was using 20lb leaders straight. As well as 20lb butt section with 12lb tippet.
      They will have tippet there for you. You're not going to go through much tippet anyways.

    How challenging was casting with the wind? Looked and sounded pretty strong?

    • @Wish4Fish
      @Wish4Fish  2 роки тому

      Thank you very much.
      That’s definitely the most challenging part. That’s why you see me backcasting at times. Definitely good to practice that and casting opposite shoulder. As well as driving it into the wind.
      Good thing is there are beats that you can SORT of escape the wind a bit.

      @Wish4Fish  Рік тому

      NICE! Amazing place! Tell everyone I said hello! They have flies there but if you want to bring flies you can’t go strong with scuds. That’s what they are eating. All honesty, you float anything past them with a good drift and they are eating it.

      Thinking about bringing a 6 wt switch along with my 8 wt.

    • @Wish4Fish
      @Wish4Fish  Рік тому

      I used a 8wt most of the time.
      The switch is pointless. I would bring a 5wt just in case you get a calm day. Go to the aquarium and hit up some dry fly action! Ask Lew for the black beetle looking fly.

      @@Wish4Fish too windy for a switch?

    • @Wish4Fish
      @Wish4Fish  Рік тому +1

      Too windy 90% of the time. Plus no need to cast that far and plenty of room to back cast in all of the beats. They are easily in reach with a regular rod.

    The walk and drag fly , not looking fish take , pick up to cast and bam , the I think I’m stuck on something are tried and true methods for a good hook set to catch fish . Let the wind be your friend, isn’t that the truth. Nice job 👍

    Hi Ken,
    I have a couple questions about you trip. I have a trip plan to JLL in October.
    1. When did your trip take place?
    2. How many rods did you take with you?
    3. It looks like you drove to the lodge, how was the drive? I’m supposed to fly to lodge but as of now the charter is shut down because of Covid.
    4. Did you take anything with you that you didn’t need.
    5. Is there anything you didn’t take that you wish you did?
    6. Any tips to make to make this trip as smooth as possible would be great.
    Thanks
    Mark

    • @Wish4Fish
      @Wish4Fish  2 роки тому

      I was there in November. I took 2 8wt and 2 5wt. Just so I had a backup in both.
      The drive wasn't bad, around 5hrs. I slept most of the way both ways. Unless they sort out the charter situation by then you will most likely drive as well.
      I am a very experienced traveler so I have everything nailed down. Although I always forget ONE item.
      Don't forget your outlet power adaptor.
      Places like this have everything you need.

    Now that you had that amazing opportunity to catch so many trophy trout, I'm wondering if you learned anything new regarding playing and landing big fish? We all know hooking big fish is one thing (trout specifically), but landing them is a special skill in itself.

    • @Wish4Fish
      @Wish4Fish  2 роки тому +1

      You are 100% correct on that. Most apparent with BIG Tarpon.
      I wouldn’t say anything new. Fighting most big fish is generally the same. We also didn’t have much to deal with structure or current wise.
      The only thing I would say was new was learning how to hold a trout that size. 😂 It has a cankle tail and it’s hard to put pressure against the fan of the tail.
