One comment (I grew up in Patagonia, fished all those rivers), is that I’d personally choose February as my favourite month, closely followed by march and January if it’s been a warm summer. December still has some significant runoffs most years, the fishing is great, but Feb is definitely king, especially for Tierra del Fuego.

Me and my brother have been thinking about a trip to fly fish in Argentina for a while now, this video was supremely helpful, thank you! Does everything have to go through a lodge/outfitter, or is it possible to mix it up with indipendent excursions on our own as well?

Same question here. I will be in Argentina for 3 months and don't have the deep pockets to book a week worth 3000$...
A DIY trip seems to be possible from what I read.

@@DonMiguelinside @Packandcamera - I think it's technically possible, however, like everything in Argentina, it can get complicated. There's VERY limited public access to most places.

I bought a copy of Fly-Fishing in Patagonia: A Trout Bum's Guide to Argentina. It contains access points for any major river for diy fisherman. Have a look! The reviews are great and while it may be outdated to some extent, it shows that a diy trip is far from impossible 👍

You can absolutely trout bum in Patagonia... doesn't have to be a finance/oil & gas guy kind of trip. Check out the dudes who wrote the bible on trout fishing in Patagonia: Barrett Mattison and Evan Jones. No lodges or Michelin restaurants needed, just a sense of adventure in getting off-path and figuring it out on your own.
