The problem with styles like this is when the rule set limits one style. Throws are about half the arsenal of Sanda, if they can't throw you cut out most of what they train for
I studied Dutch Kickboxing for a short time. Loved the insane hand and leg combos and I got into the best shape of my life. Also, this art has great defense. Best kickboxing style I've ever tried.

the dutch kicks are different because of the twist in the shoulder adding more power into the kick. they also have some really good close range kicks from kyokushin.
another reason why the sanda guy stopped striking as well is not only did the kickboxer land great strikes, the kickboxer also did a lateral shift in which the sanda guy was very square or even orthodox which was unfamiliar to the sanda guy who stuck to southpaw thru the fight
this is very Dutch kickboxing, but it was hard for me to differentiate the sanda here from Muay Thai. Maybe it's the apparent fact that throws weren't legal in this fight.
While there is some early karate influence, Dutch kickboxing is mainly Muay Thai with emphasis on good boxing combinations, it’s often referred to as Dutch Style Muay Thai. Ramon Dekkers and other early stars of Dutch style were proud to be nak muay champions.
This lacks the most important part of sanda : the throwdowns. Also the sanda guy did almost no side kick wich is weird becouse in sanda they use it a lot and it is usually very effective.
@gabrielgabriel5177 I'm currently training both of Sanda & Muay Thai, on top of other martial arts that I've learned before (Taekwondo & Muay Thai are the longest).. From my experiences, TKD and Sanda have similar problems. They do fancy kicking, which can be lethal but on the other hand, take a lot of stamina, but they don't train their stamina to the point of balancing their stamina output from doing those "fancy" kicks (sorry for my English, idk how to explain better) 😁
@@Joooo89 no problem my english is even worse lol. Where do you learn sanda? I understood that in china they are training sanda quite hard and only the top athletes are competing in top level so they must have quite good stamina. I dont think the sanda side kick takes as much stamina as muay thay round house kick. Other fancier kicks might. But also old muay thay has those flying fancy kicks. But the simple sanda side kick seems to be powerful weapon against muay thay becouse muay thay pactioners doesnt know how to response to it.
I believe the competition in China in Sanda is very big, and to become a name you have to be really good and to have great stamina. Just imagine how much competitive is one regional championship. With so much participants.
Impressive to see Andy Sauer STILL CAN FIGHT at that level even being a veteran kickboxer... Dutch style inveolves absorving blows constatly and it weights with aging but damn.... look at him go!
I feel like andy's strategy from the beginning was "I can take more hits than this guy. I'll start off slow until he tires himself out and I'll get a feel for his moves. Then on round 3 I'm tearing him apart while he's tired."
I disagree here. It was the body that crushed him. The thing about body blows is the effects take a while but they 1)suck the power out of you and 2) make you more vulnerable as your defenses fall. White/red took a hit to the body and he did the characteristic bend over with a block after the punch landed. That is the salute that said to me that the fighter’s core postures has been compromised. The shots to the head after that was just nini punches to finish the job.
Some thing i need to point out in china gyms and rings have the cheapest and worst mats ring floors because of those ads plastered all over the ring is basically like fighting on ice
Really depends. Sometimes its for distance, sometimes its to set up stuff, sometimes its for damage. Human body is weird. Some parts of it are tough, other parts so week, so any strike can be just an annoyance or a KO.

I think our boi Andy was just testing the waters a little in the beginning, but I think the multiple kicks to the nuts set him off. Ha ha ha! I don't know how Dutch Kickboxing is any different from other kickboxing, so I would've liked to see that explosive Dutch style sooner. This was cool! It looked kinda like stuff straight out of Tekken at times. Edit: I do dig the Dutch mentality. "Hit me once significantly, I'll hit you 3 times significantly." Ha ha ha! It's certainly an interesting take on counterplay. But, I think it also comes down to knowing what kind of punishment they're able to take to get in and deliver the follow-up blows.
I agree that getting fouled fired Souwer up for the last round. It was as if he thought to himself "The ref isn't doing anything about it, so I will.", and at that point he really started roughing his opponent up at close range, in addition to the explosive combos you mentioned.
"it isnt real sanda, real sanda wouldve won" nah dutch kickboxing won fair and square. kickboxing is better at striking than a muay thai or sanda guy that necessitates differences in stance because of grappling and rulesets. however the problem with muay thai imo is the upright stance from the lack of lower body takedowns that sanda has. these dutch kickboxers have a lower stance to land more punches and land combos and they dont have as upright of a stance so they can defend takedowns better.
Looks like sanda guy pissed Andy off after the third or fourth nut check and he shifted gears. Dutch people have a bit of different body types (not necessarily Andy) which also contributed to the creation of Dutch kickboxing.
Andy isn't a Dutch kickboxer. He does japanese shootboxing. It's basically Japanese sanda. Standing submissions, throws, and basically everything else except knees i think
As a Dutch person it's a little weird to hear it being referred to as Dutch kickboxing, but I do get the difference. It's hyper aggressive at times, almost to a fault. It's what got me to slow down and incorporate more of a muy thai mindset to my sparring.
Bro do you even know who is Andy? Karate and boxing? It is not really the case with Dutch kickboxing... That is traditional kickboxing, dutch kickboxing is more muay thai influenced
low blows like that qi la la fight haha. just got kicked in the balls from a muay thai coach yesterday and it was not fun, but definitely not as dramatic as theyre acting. i wasnt wearing a cup either
Pardon me to ask, but did you condition your low body (pardon, genital area)? If you did, may I ask your advice? I got (roundhouse) kicked twice in a sparring match once and I called off in the third round because I cannot stand it. I thought I was being dramatic on the ring, I was embarrassed, but I feel the pain lingers for days. I thought to myself "Am I too weak?" because some people seem to not make it a big deal on getting kicked in the ball (like Rodtang). I got kicked some more but it was light sparring and I can still go on, so I thought the low blow in this video (in an actual sports fight) or in a sparring (hard sparring especially) should be normal to be reacted (pain reaction). Thank you in advance good, sir! 🙏
