  • I'm giving an honest opinion about the Kobalt 40V chainsaw, after using it for a few weeks. It worked good for me and has a decent price point for an electric saw. This saw is for home and light farm use. Not made for heavy grade timber. It has solid construction and decent battery life. The biggest weakness I found was the bar and chain. The bar and chain that came with the saw were damaged within the first 30 minutes of use, cutting sweetgum. I used the replacement bar and chain for about 8 more hours and they have been fine, with no problems. The saw is balanced properly and comfortable to use. I would not hesitate to buy another one.

I love my Kobalt Pole Chainsaw - 80-volt - 5-AH battery - 10" Bar - 6 ft / 8ft foot Pole Chainsaw. No electric cord. I've been using Oregon Bars and Chains. I have been using it for more than 3 years now. It works great on my southeast Louisiana farm clearing property that a hurricane went through and trashed all the trees throughout the woods of our 18-acre farm. I carry it all over in our woods and the battery lasts a long time. Today I'll be cutting a 6-inch limb off of a tree out front. I am also using (2) Kobalt 80 volt 18" Bar Chainsaws and using (2) 5 AH Batteries. Cuts huge logs great. The chainsaw first one wound up in a puddle and stopped working but after a couple of weeks and it had dried out, it started working again. For oil, I like to use Ryobi Bar and chain oil. We have cut 20"+_ logs and works like a charm. And NO more pulling and pulling to start a gas-powered chainsaw.

So, the battery running down is the only issue. Not bad...considering that is what batteries do. Sounds like a good saw. Thanks for the review.

The battery is actually pretty good. I have now gone through 10 recharge cycles and average around 120 cuts for non-oak. The extra batteries are expensive. Overall, it's a decent saw. Thanks for watching.

Hi Mike. Sounds like a good price for the saw. I would love to have one for things like camping and in the vehicle when storms take place. Maybe you might do a mod fix video for the saw, especially the loosening issue. Hung up big trees, I usually only cut them slightly less than waist high, (dropping piece by piece) so there's no chance it will kick back and drop into me, and of course run fast like you did when needed. Some I used a pole saw for more safety. Surprising how just a small tree top falling on your arm can change the day. Take care.

I'm pretty happy with the saw, overall, but I wish the extra batteries were cheaper. I put some locktite on the bar bolt and that stopped it from vibrating loose. You're right, even a small limb hitting the head or hitting the arm that is holding the saw is a big danger. I keep a hard hat in the truck, but forgot to take it on the day I did the video. Now, after reading your comment, I wish I had mentioned that. I should have also worn the chaps. My next review is on a pole saw. I got tired of climbing a tree with the chain saw. 12 foot pole saw is a lot safer. Thanks for watching.

I dont like that battery place at all, I prefer the previous 40 volt Kobalt that Lowes was selling last year where the battery loaded from the top, and the MPS chain speed is faster. Evidently Lowes or Kobalt discontinued that model 1 month after I bought one.......

I don't know if this is true, but I was told that the batteries kept overheating when the saw was used for a long duration, which prompted a redesign.

@@MikeM100 But the bigger Kobalt saws still have battery on top.
