I enjoyed this extremely detailed video on how to properly replace a fuel pump in a 2006-2012 Chevrolet Impala!
This job looks extremely difficult, detailed, and requires a lot of precision to avoid gas explosions!
It's no wonder this job typically costs $1,000+ to have done professionally!
This video was good but didn't actually cover what it's really like to drop the fuel tank in an old rusty 2009 impala. I just dropped mine today and it was very very difficult. Every single line. Every single bolt. Every single connection was siezed, rusted, corroded, stuck.
excellent job-very skilled technician.
when you remove the filler hose does it just pop out or do I undo the hose clamp
where is the fuel filter located inside the fuel tank on a 07 chevy impala ls flex fuel? i got a misfire on cylinder 1 but i had rethreaded the cylinder head with insert and i swapped cylinder 3 injector to cylinder 1 and now cylinder 1 misfire is gone and cylinder 3 has the misfire so could this be injector related or something because i never changed all six injectors just one which was a aftermarket injector not the o.e.m part. I know you have to change the fuel filter when you change your injectors but I don't really think it's a filter problem but a injector problem. My fuel pump works fine never had any issues with it thus far and I also had new plugs and wires done also with a coil pack and 02 sensors so i'm defiantly thinking it's a injector problem more so a fuel pump or the fuel filter.Or could it just be the fuel pump and the filter?
It appears that my 2010 Impala 3.5 LT VIN N is only losing pressure on initial startup after sitting a few days. That to me would imply a bad fuel pressure regulator / valve. Any way of changing just this part of the fuel pump or installing another pressure regulator valve in the fuel line between the pump and the fuel rail?
Thanks!
Thank you
what cable goes on the 3 smallest line
would it be the same method for a 2011 impala?
Is it the same for a 2014 limited
Is this the same for a 2007 Chevy impala Lt flex fuel
What's the name of that tool you're using to bleed the system in the beginning of the video?
Great video. Thanks a lot!
Is this fuel pump compatible for an 8 cylinder
We have an 08 chevy impala lt. it's currently in the shop and the fuel pump has went out twice in 6 months
Is there a coverplate in the trunk???
Did you spray water on electrical when cleaning
Awesome how to, I used this to replace my sending unit on my 07 Buick lacrosse 3.8. However I found a silver spring in the bottom of the tank measuring .5”x2” Any idea where this spring goes? I’m lost
What the difference between them and can I have a picture of it
I have a Buick Lacrosse 2010 CXS 3.6L/LLT and it waste gas like no other. I've done all tune ups like new spark plugs, coils, air filter, fuel treatment, new battery, O2 sensors check and working properly. The part I've never checked was fuel pump idk what symptoms would be i do have rough starts here and there but it always ran and never puttered.
Great video! I have a 2010 Impala and it seems to choke and hesitate when first starting up after a long sit (ie - overnight). It usually takes 2-3 attempts to get it started, and when it does start, the exhaust smells very rich. I figured this would be a bad Fuel Pressure Regulator but can't seem to find one up near the rails. I put my fuel pressure gauge on it before starting and as feared, 0 psi. When running, 60 psi. Does this car have an FPR, or is it in the tank with the fuel pump?
how do I know if it’s my fuel pump that’s messed up and not me needing to change the oil ? Anytime I rev the engine it’s starts knocking and shuts off in traffic while being over heated
Does it matter if you put the pressure sensor back in because I got one that doesn't have pressure sensor plug on top
Ditto... Did u ever find out the answer?
I own a 2008 impala lt3.5l. I've noticed online that my car does not have a fuel filter, but instead part of the fuel pump located within the gas tank. Is this true? I was wondering if I should change the fuel filter since I'm riding on 198,000 currently with the original fuel pump. Everything is currently running in order minus a little bog here and there on hills.
It also does however start up with ease, practically first or second cycle of the engine.
How you tell or do it matter if you 3 or 2 ports on the fuel pump
Any chance you have the answer?
I purchased a new fuel pump for my vehicle but it came without a fuel sender unit; I will have to transfer the old sender unit from the old pump. The new pump has two wires for the sender unit but they are unmarked - no indicators as to which wire on the new pump goes to which terminal on the sender unit. I understand the sender unit is a variable resistor and doesn't have a polarity - but does it matter which wire from the pump goes to which terminal on the sender unit?
Thanks so much - your video helped me greatly. Very much appreciated. I installed the new sender yesterday with the pump and all seems to be working properly. The original pump had to be replaced as it's pressure regulator / check valve seemed to be failing; it wouldn't keep pressure in the line leading to the fuel rail. This is the 2nd time this has happened and it is getting expensive to keep replacing pumps just because a simple check valve keeps failing . Can I simply buy a one-way check valve and install it on the line leading to the rail, if this check valve on the pump should fail again? I do not understand why these check valves keep failing. I use Lucas injector cleaner regularly - could it be messing up these valves?
My 2012 3.6 flex fuel suddenly died while driving . p0186 came up . I’m sure the fuel temp sensor is built in the assembly
Hello I have a 2010 Chevy impala 3.5 LT. the fuel pump I got has 3 connectors. I know you said not to worry if I got one of those fuel pumps. What do I do with the 4 connector? Since there is no connection for it?
Your vehicle lists three possible modules.Looking at these three modules, none of them have four hose connections.
E3749M has two hose fittings with one four pin electrical connector.
E3786M has two hose fittings and one 4 pin and one three pin electrical connector.
E3796M has two hose fittings and one 4 pin and one three pin electrical connector.
These three modules are not interchangeable.
Does the 2012 impala have the access panel in the trunk as well or under the seat? Or does the tank absolutely have to be dropped?
It coded for the fuel pump. Seeing its a costly repair is there anything else I should check that would present that code before I commit to the fuel pump repair?
I've changed it a few days ago. It was coming on but was weak. I'm fixed now. Thanks
Chris Morris did you have to drop the tank I have a 2012 that needs a new fuel pump and I’m kind of lost on where to get started??
Much easier cutting a square piece of aluminum of chassis above the fuel pump. Save your self 9 hours of headache labor in 10 min of work.
Amy links to where exactly
Any word?
Is the pump unit removable by means other than dropping the tank?
Yes, if you are brave you can measure where the fuel pump is located, and gain access to it either by removing rear seat completely or going through the trunk or both.
You should be able to see where previous models had an access panel that is sealed. Cut around this area on 3 sides, fold flap back to access pump. Removal is same once you have the access panel cut out.
I seen a video showing a 2005 Impala access to the fuel pump under the back seat, is that possible in the 2008?
I have a 2008 Impala LT 3.5 Gas which fuel pump should I get 1, 2, or 3 Connecters?
Your vehicle uses one of 6 different pumps. These are based on engine code (fuel type), the number of connections and the emission type; with or without Partial Zero Emissions. Once you sort that out there will only be one option. Let us know if we can help with your lookup.
@@AirtexFuelPumps I have a 2007 Impala 3.9 police package. Which fuel pump should I use
What's a job like this cost? A mechanic I dropped my car off last night with stated he would charge me $1100 which seems super ridiculous in my opinion.
If u think that's bad, dealer wanted to charge me $1,800 to replace fuel pump after charging me for the diagnosis fee of $240.
Where is the filter?
No idea if anyone's still viewing this. But I can't find any info on a access panel to change the tank pressure sensor. Do I need to have the tank removed for that as well? thanks in advance.
Josh Grant gotta drop the tank man I’m sorry I’m doing it now ima put it on my channel check it out
@@thirdeyesage2113can you send me a link to your video
You've got 60# of fuel pressure and you're replacing the fuel pump?
08 impala ls 3.5 flex fuel model. this vehicle fuel guage is not working properly. when fuel is low the guage will not read lower then 1/4 tank. is this a fuel sensor problem on the fuel pump unit. or should i replace the whole fuel pump unit?
the flex fuel model impala must have a different model fuel pump and fuel sensor. would the impala flex fuel model use a seimens fuel system?
if i disconnect the harness to fix the defrost wire located under the passenger side door moulding, with a bypass wire because the defrost connection within the harness connection has a known problem burning out, would reconnecting the harness possibly cause the fuel guage to start reading incorrectly? or should i just replace the whole fuel pump system?
PS - My Impala is an LT and the engine is the 3.5 L. Once the car gets running, it seems fine. Its only after it sits overnight.
Could be an Alternator or bad battery as well.
Sounds like your loosing your pressure in the line and have to prime it up could be a fuel pressure regulator going out its just a guess as I have not seen the vehicle but I'd check it out
@@tommykahn2353 Car died about 3-4 years ago... head gasket. What happened though, was that it turned out that the gas line attaching to the pump managed to unclick and loosen.... because I reused the connector and line. Then it was sucking air at the connector. Eventually one day it popped right off and I flooded a parking lot with gas trying to start the car... ended up getting it towed home, dropping the tank, replacing that line and connector (not cheap btw), and re-attaching. Was fine after that. Just goes to show you... if you have a hard time disconnecting one of these fittings, then make sure it ain't damaged... and `clicks' when you re-attach. Hard lesson learned.
@@rangerrick8220 yeah I had a lady with a jeep that popped lines off on a yj one time put a whole tank of gas on the ground before the lady knew it was leaking 🤦♂️
@@tommykahn2353 Mine leaked in a hardware store parking lot the day after he had it black coated... dissolved some of it on them - fealt sorta bad. Offered to pay but they said no - were good about it. Yup - was cranking it over and then smelled strong gas... looked underneath and oh ooooh. Yup... hmmm.
Where can i order this exact fuel pump
My apologies, I cannot name names here.
We sell through a variety of retail outlets, they do have a large presence online as well as having actual brick and mortar locations. Auction sites and most of your “discount” online only parts sites are not direct vendors of Airtex.
You want to ask and verify if the "store" you are dealing with is a direct vendor as all warranty is processed through the point of purchase. Meaning whoever sold you the pump is responsible to cover the warranty. We will back our vendors; they will back you. If it is not a direct vendor it will be up to you to work it out with the seller.
is there a access panel for a 2009 Chevrolet Impala lt v6 3.5 to get to the fuel filter and fuel pump? car has rough idle. plugs and wires good.rpm reves up and down low idle
what about the 2007 impala, is it the same way?
I have to press the accelerator to get car to start. Is that the fuel pump?
It may be. Proper diagnostics need be done to determine the cause.
Start with a fuel line pressure test.
Can I use a regular fuel pump on my 08 impala instead of using the flexfuel pump?
No
@@chimneygeorge bro this was 8 years ago 🤣🤣
@@chimneygeorge and you're wrong now that I think about it I used a regular fuel pump and it worked fine for years just couldn't run E85 anymore which I never did so it was fine for me
Only complaint I would have is he doesn’t show you where to hook up the fuel gauge to release the pressure off the gas
I’m hoping that this 08 impalas fuel pump system resembles the 07 impala 3.9 liter fuel pump system that I’m about to attempt to change out thanks for the information and God Bless 👍🏽
Best of luck!
How was it? I have to do mine
My Chevy will start but then starts shaking the whole engine and then dies down. I’ve been told it’s the ignition and then I was told it’s the fuel pump, help 🥴
Really!?!? did you guys disinfected that fuel tank on the inside too!?!?
If need be... yes! A quick way to kill a pump is to start it on a diet of dirt and debris. Cleaning the tank is one way of adding life to a pump and everything down stream.
I have a ls impala v6 3.5 btw
My impala hesitates when accelerating fast my mechanic says it's the fuel pump. He wants to charge me $350 for the job.
6 years ago but, did you ever find out if it was the fuel pump? Im in the same boat man
@@LegendaryJoe777 me too 🥴
@@EspyIbarra my fuel pump just came in today ima work on it today and see what happens I will let you know!!💯
@@LegendaryJoe777 okay, which one did you end up buying? I’m still researching for one 🥴
Your fuel pump alone will be that much
And they cut out the part if the video I needed
What part is that?
The smartest shit gm could've did was make it easy to take a fuel pump out by the backseat like honda and Nissan
They had it, the previous car model series before this impala. It also had a standalone fuel filter, which has been moved to to fuel pump assembly (most car brands have done this now as well). It’s trash imo.
this is not the way a 2010 buick LaCrosse is
Before you go all this check the trunk you probably have an access panel no need to drop tank
Those years dont have the access panel but there is an area accessible from trunk where there would have been one, but its welded in place. One option is to cut a flap there and remove the pump from inside the trunk.
