Update: Because I traveled alone I was highlighting the benefits of traveling alone in this video. However, I've done lots of traveling in the past with friends / family and If you haven't done much traveling, I'd definitely recommend travel with friends / family / a group or organization etc. first then. Traveling is a very new experience. I was just saying there is lots of growth that can happen if you travel alone as you fully rely on yourself. However, you will have lots of growth traveling with some sort of companions too. Traveling with companions or an organization is very fun and not as overwhelming as traveling solo. Most likely safer too.
Also, if traveling alone, be safe! Use common sense! Really research where you will be! You should be fine, but you never know! Especially for solo female travelers, be really careful and don't trust strangers!
This travel alone adventure for me has been one of the highlights of my life so far! There were a couple small bumps and a tiny bit of loneliness or feelings of being overwhelmed / out of my comfort zone on an occasion (part of the growth experience), but overall the trip went quite smoothly! I really had a blast, was an adventure, and learned a lot about my self and the world :) Highly highly recommend traveling!!
BTW, I traveled alone for the first time at age 23. And it seemed like a great age to do that. I had done lots of previous traveling with mainly my family before though.
You should probably be 20+ before traveling alone and you also need to have a mature personality and a large amount of common sense. There are real dangers in the world, and young solo travelers may be targeted. So please be safe.
My 27 year old friend was traveling a couple months ago got mugged. Another friend who is 21 traveled last year and got his phone stolen. So be careful out there! Criminals target tourists! That said, I don't want to scare you! If you're smart and have common sense, traveling in most countries (do your research on safety) is quite safe and traveling is one of the best experiences you can possibly have!
    --
Another thing that surprised me is how many other solo travelers there are here that I'm meeting. More people than I thought enjoy traveling alone. It's an awesome experience that I really think everyone should do at least once in their life.
I used the "Hostel World" app on my phone to find / book the hostels. So far I've stayed in amazing places. I highly recommend that app because it has ratings and reviews for each hostel so you can get a feel for them beforehand and find the top notch ones. For the best ones, sometimes it's best to book a little early. Hostels can really vary. They can go from being kind of dirty and have weird people.. to being very nice and incredibly welcoming and social. So do a little research!

I'm a girl and travel alone and stay in hostels all the time. They're much better than hotels. It's a great way to get to know people, and I have met so many fantastic people and had great experiences through this type of traveling :) I think that if you travel with a friend, even if you stay in hostels, you don't make new friends at all. It's good to travel with friends once in a while, but I like a nice balance :)

can confirm this, i met my girlfriend by traveling and working at a hostel. It work svery well, in the normal day to day work life, it can be really hard to just meet someone becaues everyone is in their set routine.. In terms of travel, people are not in a set routine and are much more open to letting you into their lives and day to day activities.

I personally travel first and once i reach the airport i go to a very busy place, then sit with my sun glasses for 20 minutes, until i know about everything, and i check a route so i can run in a direction and then blend into people without anyone noticing me
so, the plan is, after knowing the route/staying 20 minutes, find a good target, like a young female, and then when its the time, simply rob her, take her phone and run into that route, then blend into people, but very important notes
-When you steal, have your sun glasses on, and then when you blend remove it (or vice-versa)
-Buy a two sided jacket, that has different colors, so change the side when you rob, and turn up the sleeve so you look different
-Act very normal and just simply walk away
-Put the "head" part on when robbing, after you blend take it off
-Turn off the phone!! (remove battery is possible)
(Do this 2-3 times per trip, after stealing ones, and successfully running away go to another spot the other day..etc)
And after that you should find a local store to sell the phones, but remember, before you sell them back up all the data on your PC so you can stalk the persons' shit :P and then wipe the phone, make sure to throw the SIM card somewhere before heading home!)
so thats it, thats how I afford traveling, stealing 2 phones that can sell at around $300 together can give me a living of a week easily
$30 per day to hostel ($210)
you are left with $90 for food and stuff, but still sometimes you gotta rob 2-4 times to afford it all ,but i recommend just robbing twice per trip, because its stressful as fuck, and you gonna still pay some money for the airline ticket
Another thing i recommend is you go to places and find short term jobs, for like $10 per day for a week or something, just easily accept any job even for low prices by greedy old ppl, then work 1 day, the second day possibly rob the place, it depends, but u can get out with a pile of $200 or some good shit :)

basically travelling in europe gets pretty repetitive at night time when all shops are closed and people can only drink. americans are generally more naive and are easily spotted by scammers. also they only really start drinking at 21 so probably can't handle their alcohol that well if they're at that age or younger. stay safe kids

I've never stayed in a hostel.
I use to think that they were no different than homeless shelters.
But from what I've seen on utube they are alot nicer and the people are much better than the ones in homeless shelters.
Homeless shelters in the U.S like Gospel missions have alot of freaks, weirdos and the mentally ill.
It's a very negative environment because everybody looks down on each other.
I was so glad to get out of there.

Travelling alone for a long time must suck unless you find some new friends at a hostel.
I don't get lone travellers who stay at hotels. Even if you're great at finding new friends - if you find people living on the other side of town chances are you'll only hang out with them for one day. Living at a hostel is a much easier way of finding friends to hang out with for the entire week.

For an American it maybe makes sence to say you have to wait until you're over 20. In Europe it's different, your 21 is our 18, when you are seen as 'adults' as 21, we are seen as 'adults' as 18. So to say you have to wait until you're 20 is just odd. I was 19 when I set off alone for the first time(even tho most people I met thought I was around 15). I met 17 year old girls traveling alone, no big deal. Really! While I agree 15 is too young, I don't think you should set the line at 20. 15 is too young cuz most hostels wont allow people under 16 to stay alone there.

I was in South Korea for Christmas by myself and now I'm in Brazil, I hope to stay here for 6 months. I think Australia is a cool place and if you have the opportunity to go there don't give up. After all you speak the same language and this is an advantage. I think when you travel alone you have to trust in your personal temper. I mean ifv you are a trouble maker in your country probably you'll problems find you in other country too. In my case I'm a kind of "naive" person in my native country and so I'm in Brazil too I guess. Good luck.

I believe what you say but there are 2 hints! choose carefully the hostels reading reviews and so on!
I did my first travel alone to new york city 2 years ago (for 11 nights) and it has been one of the best experiences of my life. I think I also could make a video about that but i do not have audience!
I just live 3 hours away from Berlin, pitty we could not meet, would have been a great video together!
    cheers

    Hey, Luke. Good tips.
I have only travelled once, with family, but if all goes well I'm planning to do it again next year. This time, solo travel!
I'm waiting to see if I get a remote job I've been applying for. I hope I get, which I'm confident I'll get, but we'll see. And then I'll able to do work and travel. Isn't that great?
The idea of that alone keeps me excited for next year. Although, very anxious too. I hope no to die of a heart attack until then. haha
Anyway, if all goes well I'm planning on going to the Philipines (don't know which city, yet) and Tokyo, in Japan.
Also, meeting girls is very nice but you shouldn't travel just to meet girls. It's very expensive for a resource we have on our own countries. haha

walking i a foreign city alone, discovering it, taking some photos is cool. What I don't like about travelling alone is to visit museums or go to the restaurant , this is not fun. Where did Shugo go after you left Buqrest?
Hostel life is okay, but sometimes some pain in the ass people create disturbance in hostels also. You have to live with 4 to 10 persons in a tiny room with bunk beds, and you have to be careful, because everyone has a different personality ans taste.
Why didn't you make a travel video to show us the beauty of Prague, Berlin, and other places?

    • @GoldJacketLuke
      @GoldJacketLuke  9 років тому

My So-Called Life Shogo is staying in Bucharest for business reasons.
Yeah, I've heard some bad stories. Overall my hostel experiences have been great & really smooth tho. Once I took it easy and some guys were loud coming in at 4am and woke me up for awhile. Other than that, no real complaints at all. That wasn't too bad
I'd rather enjoy the sites and not think "this would be cool to film" all the time.
