Don't tear it down! Vancouver never did and the city benefits from a second venue. We will never have another opportunity. Save our heritage and give Edmonton another concert venue!
As an Oilers fan living in Ontario, I can say I was able to attend two games at the old barn. It was so cool to be in that building. I wish they would auction off some of the reading int items like seats, signs stuff like that.
I remember watching the 06 series between the Canes and the Oilers on TV and while it was a dated arena it definitely seemed it could get very loud and lively during a playoff game. It’s sad to see it in such a decayed state.
Nostalgic 'Northland's Coliseum, then 'SkyReach Centre' and finally, 'Rexall Place'...saw a number of EDM Oiler games, there as well as Metallica, Aerosmith, Guns n' Roses, System of the Down, AC⚡️DC, Megadeth, and Iron Maiden concerts, as well. Cheers, for all the memories!
It may not have been fancy by the end of its service life, but it was solidly built and functional. I'd be surprised if the new one is in use for 30 years, let alone nearly fifty.
Then you're naive. Roger's place will last well into the 2060s. Recall was a big fat glorified cave with no vendors and little history other than Wayne gretzky.
Saw so many wonderful events here. Canadian and World Figure Skating, Stars on Ice, Bon Jovi, Billy Joel, the Guess Who, Elton John, and more. Edmonton doesn't keep its older buildings for long.
It is sad that Edmonton never keeps older buildings up for very long. I saw many great concerts at Northlands, from Heart, to Eric Clapton, to Paul McCartney, and even the CCMAs, twice, as well as others.
what a waste of money ,this place could have been used for in door sports like soccer fields which this city needs more of .that dam Katz should be paying for this tare down and not the tax payers of this city. him and that friggen bettman saying the building was no good any longer .there was parking all around the old rink and maybe a 5 minute walk to get inside .now you have to go find a place to park either take a cab or train to get there.have been in there 2 times and never again.big guy here and the seats are ridiculous they were made for kids .yep Katz should be responsible for all cost in taring down the building .
I can’t stand Katz I wish he would just sell the Oilers back to Edmonton and he would leave he screwed Edmonton and all the people he made sure that the Coliseum couldn’t have concerts in there he was scared that everyone would go there and never go to that ugly Rogers Place that is just for the Rich.
it is the government's fault and people being lazy and ignorant. We rely on hockeys too much. As a city, we should invite more shows like concerts, sport shows and exhibitions, expo to edmonton. This is what drives the tourists and businesses. People here just care about building houses (affordable houses and they mean FREE HOUSING, giving drugs and money to natives etc.) This country will NEVER improve if we only do that. And this is why China, and alot of Middle East countries are ahead of us but we still deny it. We need new people and new cash. In order to do that, we need expos, new shows, and NEW businesses. Doing business in Edmonton is already very tough as small businesses are DEAD. Only big USA monopoly companies can survive.... Government, please do something besides just playing politics. Edmonton is DEAD. Make rules to big companies to assort small brands. Because we only get to buy big brands in stores like walmart, superstore etc.... We need smaller brands. Government should really support these small brands and businesses,. Don't just say it, DO IT. STOP THE POLITICS and DO SOMETHING. Look at coliseum and our downtown for example. IT IS DEAD and all we see is homeless natives attacking people and do drugs. WHAT IS WRONG WITH OUR COUNTRY NOW?????
right on send the dam indians back to their reserves that the governments are paying for .it is the chiefs who take that money and send it down to their banks accounts in arizona . the chiefs don't want the troubled kids in their reserves so they kick them out to the big cities so they have to deal with them ..just saying
You are screaming into a vacuum, learn about this issue more, learn about who owns the land . Just learn about what you are mad about . Also there are many people of all cultures on the street, your racism is showing, your ignorance and lack of knowledge. Find out who owns the land the coliseum is on. It's not the city.
@@stephenletts4942 i guess you are the UNIQUE one here and everyone here do not agree with you. So good bye. If you think that was a racist comment then sure, up to you. You definitely do not want to face the reality or admit to it. This is why our country is failing miserably and you still think there is no problem with it. Good bye, unique one.
Was there anything inside that was repurposed? I see seats, office furniture, washroom facilities, and who knows what else that might have found a new home in community facilities of all kinds! It sounds like there is time, but as we all know, time is the enemy of reuse.
This makes me steaming mad when they said they would use it for hockey they lie and are so scared that people would rather go there for Concerts then the ugly one that costs to much for the rest of the people that always went too the other Concerts and hockey games now they just want the high class and Rich at the concerts and games evil Mayors. 😡

Remarkable structure.
Lots of great moments there for hockey fans, concert goers, etc.
That structure was really well built, sad that it's going to be taken out

So sad. Some great memories there. Took my lil brother to his first game as my brother did for me:(

Kinda sad. The house of Wayne Gretzky is going to be gone. Glad that McDavid got to play there in his first year.
Would love to have seen an NHL game here. That dynasty was amazing.
I worked there in one of the concessions while I was in high school, 13 years ago. So many memories 😌🫡
I'm sure if they left this building up one day it would be filled with hockey ghost
There got to be a way to make use of this great building , get some intelligent people and put their heads together for thought .👍👍🤷♂️
So many memories growing up good bye old friend.
Idk why UA-cam recommended me this video but I am devastated about the loss of this stadium that I didn’t know existed 30 seconds ago
So many cups won, pls, keep half of the building up
My mom went there to see a Metallica concert It sucks that it closed.

Probably nearly nothing, besides what the workers pocket.

Should have used it to house the unhoused and drug addicts
Unfortunately, capitalist society wants to make life as difficult for the poor as it possibly can.
