Edmonton - City of Champions. A time that will never be forgotten and never again repeated. The last great hockey dynasty in the NHL. Gretzky, Messier, Kurri, Coffey, Fuhr, Anderson, Tikkanen. Legends never die, they will live on in hockey lore as the Greatest Team in its prime the world has ever seen
Islanders Dynasty has entered the chat
Agreed! They were the Best team and Dynasty ever. They would've won 2 or 3 more if Gretzky wasn't traded which would have given them 7 or 8 total. People forget the Oilers went to the Conference Finals in '91 and '92 and Gretzky's Kings with 7 ex Oilers in '93 Finals and Messier's Rangers with 7 ex Oilers winning in '94. As of 2022 5 Oilers are still in the top 10 in NHL playoff scoring of all time. It was sick how good they were and the longevity they had as players.
My favorite of the five championship teams.
I grew up watching the Oilers win their 5 cups. One of the greatest teams of all times, and the fact that they won a 5th cup without Gretzky speaks to their depth. I'm rooting for them to win a 6th cup against Florida in 2024.
Most of these Oilers met in 94. Especially Jelly.
Messier is one the greatest leaders of all time 👌
Agree very much. Growing up watching hockey and much basketball in the 80s and 90s, realized that next to players like Jordan, Magic, Bird, that Messier was one of the great leaders and clutch players to play a team sport.
He was my favourite player for the team.
They went on to win another while wearing NY Rangers jerseys in 94. 1994 ReUnited Oilers!!!!
And how sweet it was!!! Thanks Mess!!!
Ranford run was amazing
Good memories. Now let's make some new ones. LFG BOYS!
Mess is for my money the greatest leader in hockey history.
Anyone see jeff Beukeboom
Jesse Pollock from Bar Down has!!!
To bad for what happen to Joe Murphy . Now he’s homeless in Conora Ontario . I hope he gets help
yeah.... that's really sad.
just read up, that's really sad. Was the concussion mostly from the altercation in NYC?
Very sad. Although he wasn't the superstar he was supposed to be, he had a very solid career and then his post career is just very sad.
Yeah poor guy has a lot of issues. He deserves better and hopefully he can get his train down the right track.
And they won again in 1994.
The *"New York Oilers"* lmao
bruh look at this dude I don’t care, I’ll take it.
@@jfedol7760 It technically was lol
@Alex Lucian we got a jealous rangers fan, a team that only won 1 cup in an era much easier to score in
may I mention that you guys had the richest team with no salary cap and still couldn't do anything because of chemistry?
New York Oilers
@Alex Lucian What, because the new york oilers won the cup? Actual idiot rangers fan, just like the rest.
Gretzky NEVER should have left the Oilers.
amazing
This young Oilers team is missing one main ingredient to winning a Stanley Cup. A solid playoff goalie. Edmonton were fortunate with the like of Grant Fuhr, Andy Moog and Bill Ranford.
Messier was a beast that year, I remember it well
Classic!
I was 18 back then, Christ I feel old
I remember watching the Bruins final. NHL hockey has changed a lot since 1990. It has become way faster.
And those 1988 & ‘90 Bruins teams could beat any team today.
The Oilers kept Ray Bourque from winning the Cup twice.
Да помню пас Мессье за спину.Обожаю Ойлерз 80х годов.
This season was the end of just a few teams winning the Stanley cup over several years.Thank better management of the league.
this is great ! GO OILERS !
we're still waiting
Awesome
Carson must be kicking himself!
That’s exactly what I was thinking ha ha ha 👍
He was pretty full of himself anyway. Best thing that happened to the Oilers was getting rid of that pouty bum.
Nah carson couldn't handle the pressure of replacing gretzky
13:47-13:51 this clip is used to cap off one of the greatest playoff commercials the NHL ever made. Their 2010, "No Words" ua-cam.com/video/JSd8CqBEbcY/v-deo.html
This is exactly what I was thinking of when I saw it but couldn't put my finger on it, thanks for the link!
that was a beating they gave the bruins. should have been a sweep
I was born in 1990, it would only be natural of me to become an oilers fan
They never should have got through Winnipeg in round #1.
The last time that there were 21 teams in the NHL?
1990-91 would have been the last time. Sharks joined the league for the 1991-92 season.
How do you do 15 minutes on that season and not mention that Messier won the damn Hart and broke Chicago's will to live in game four?
How had I not known that Silent Bob had narrated an Oilers documentary?
well Kevin Smith is Also a Edmonton Oilers Fan Besides The NJ Devils!
The 1990 Oilers are what the 1994 Chicago Bulls could have been if not for Hue Hollins.
Weird- Two teams in the four major sports, who won a championship in 1990, are still waiting for their next championships! Oilers and Reds. Giants and Pistons both won championships since 1990!
Lawomenshoops: I know this is not a North American pro sports team, but in England, Liverpool last won the domestic title (Premier League) in 1990. It was called Division One back then. Like the Oilers, Liverpool dominated the '80s, but haven't won the League since 1990. It's hard to believe.
Brian Cusack I was thinking how did you know I’m a Liverpool fan? But, I’m only a fan because 96 people should never had died going to a damn game! I only found out about Hillsborough a few years ago. But, the incompetence and coverup is just disgusting!! #JFT96
Viewers check this out if you want to see more Oilers winning the Cup. Iconic B&W Hockey Photos from the 1980's. Some of these images will blow you away!
YESSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!! Kevin James narrating old school hockey?? Hahahahahaha
Uh...no. Kevin Smith the director of classics Clerks and Mallrats. Lol
Walt Disney could not have written the Oilers story better.
Bill Ranford was the reason they won the cup that year.
Kurri was a huge part of that team. Kind of disappointing hes not really mentioned here.
8:23 is that Hasek playing stand up style?
Looked like it but it wasn't. That goalie had a right glove hand. The helmet tho looked exactly like his and the build too. It's Greg millen. Looks just like him tho
messier didn't need gretzky to win a cup... two more times
I wish a had have been alive back in the 80s
"Without" 99 ??
It was an Amzing ride! Then My Hero...Still is. White LINES!!!! BLOW AWAY!!!!!!! LETS GO OILERS!! MAKE IT SIX!!!!!
Billy Ranford was absolutely outstanding. 💯🥅🔥
The Edmonton Oilers beat the Boston Bruins for the 2nd Stanley Cup In 3 years. But this time Without Wayne Gretzky.
The Oilers one another cup descised as the New York Rangers
Tonight, #6
How many would they have won if Gretzky had stuck around?
2 at most ,..The Penguins dynasty was on the scene ,.
@Derrick Yodes Two Cups isn't a Dynasty. Had Gretzky not been traded Penguins wouldn't have won a Stanley Cup
@@derrickyodes8743 The Oilers won five.
As a Jets fan, I hate this
Bill Ranford.
Maybe next week we'll learn about the 2012 Kings and how they won the SC without Gretzky...
Because Wayne Gretzky went to the Blues in 1995 the Rangers in 1997 and retired in 1999 , we got some brainless fans here
9:29 Ron... with hair?!
Bill Ranford was the reason.
So, only Huddy and Kevin Lowe were 30, of the players who were part of the other Cup winning teams. Yet, they were getting long in the tooth? Generally, most players are in their prime from 26-32/33. So, many of them had 3-4 more prime years!! Wrong narrative!
Mike Keller wrong!
They had a lot of playoff mileage though.
