Really has nothing to do with rights. I mean you could say...nobody has the right to build such an opulent over the top home, and then just disrespectfully abandon it....but they do it anyways.... Understand human nature as it really exists, as opposed to an idealistic version of reality. The reno crews willl "rightfully" rip every out, put it in a dumpster, get paid by a millionaire....low wages no doubt for their hard labour (the contractor will get richer), and the whole process will start over again, until the next forest fire rips through the mountain, and melts the metal....those little sprinklers...well we all know by now that is limited..if there is water going to them still, and ya,..,,those wood floors...will burn. So its just another rich persons abandoned house full of their piles of worthless stuff....one of millions throughout the world suffering the same fate...large or small..people die, and sometimes no one really cares what they built and abandoned.....people live on sidewalks and tents....I would get over it .
I first discovered this in July of 86 when I worked for the railroad. We climbed up the hard way from the front not the easy way like you did LOL. Long story short, when we found this place literally everything was as if they had just left for town, even left the place settings ready for dinner. I was very saddened when I next saw the place in around 2015 totally trashed. But it was and is a really cool place. The workshop was still operational when we first saw the place.
This one is uplifting for at least two reasons: It’s not rotting beyond repair like so many are. It’s solid! AND it IS SO NICE to hear that someone cared enough to buy it and plans to upgrade it! Refreshing! Oh wow, it would be SO COOL to see a big “after” reveal once it’s all cleaned up and updated. I wonder if they’d let you in, Brent. Worth asking down the road! ☺️
It's possible the presumed signs of "plans to upgrade" may be merely to satisfy minimum liability insurance requirements to avoid a lawsuit in case someone gets hurt on your property. There may also be a building code which stipulates basic qualifiers relating to structural integrity to keep it municipally registered as a home and not a nuisance or even environmental hazard. Failing to "appear to maintain a property" would require its deconstruction and safe disposal, asbestos and all. That's cheap, there's a garbage truck on the remote helicopter-only accessible mountain peak every Thursday! Maintaining the residence designation would be desirable from a seller's perspective to increase the resale value of the property. There may also be a licensing requirement - as a condition of receiving a power generating permit - to maintain lodging for a power plant operator; but since no operator wants to live there - not safe for kids, or far from schools - the condition is allowed to slide. What is astonishing is that the power station below still in operation! It is possible a residence is required under an exemption as a homesteader, or prospector, for the permission to "cause the current of a river to be interrupted" (for the power). The dam increases the land value - and the dam requires: a house - which to be safe from prosecution has to be boarded up for liability, requiring the building envelope to be secure to maintain municipal registration as a home, to meet the requirements to have a power permit. Three pieces of plywood accomplishes all that, with a written statement of intent of a "plan to upgrade". See you in ten years!

It's crazy that you can spend an exorbitant amount of money, pouring your life into a house and when you die nobody does anything with it, just falls into disrepair and gets trashed by people... Insane location, would love to restore it!
@leaf16nut - It was a fully custom home built for and to the specifications of one individual; a glorified survival bunker. If he had no heirs, who else would live there? It's an isolated, remote, difficult to access location. Getting in and out during the dead of winter would be even harder. Clearly, it had no appeal or resale value. When the owner died, the reason for the existence of the structure died with him. It'll cost millions to restore and even more to maintain. And when (or even *_IF_* ) it's restored, it will again fall into disrepair when the current owner dies. It's a black hole that will simply suck up money.

A very Frank Lloyd Wright inspired home. Since you mentioned it, someone has bought the property and to me is boarding it up to fix it back up. Imagine the time, money and effort in actually building this where it is! His family must have lived here after he died. What had been hanging at an angle from the office roof had maps that you can pull down! BTW Who was with you in the house? Saw him/her in the hallway while you were in the guy's office. You must have gotten a New microphone, it's picking up a lot of secondary sounds. It's obvious there were people living there as his stuffn awas auctioned off. Still I ca see him doing this given who he was working with back then. Wanting to isolate himself and his family. Neat home.
@@AbandonedUrbexCanadayou didn't answer who was with you!! I saw them dart through the shot as well... Assumed a family member ? Otherwise, we captured a real ghostie 👻
Well, you better start understanding, because obviously it is a common enough human phenomena, a characteristic of our species. Some have likened it to artistic expression, a form of communication, a creation of sort...leaving a mark. There are reasons, and explanations..not understanding something, ever, is...well....what can I say....an odd thing to say....Maybe you don't want to understand...as it is understandable. Maybe people have nothing better to do. To be realistic....when the renovation crews arrive....they will essentially do exactly....the same thing....I hope that helps you. They are doing it because its going to happen anyway, so what difference does it make really in the end. ?
Perfect location for a home. I love it! Not my style of architecture though. No neighbors. I love the sound of the river. Beautiful area. Pretty sad that people feel the need to vandalize it.
A very studious man. Lonely though. I see no evidence of children anywhere. Just him and his wife, trying to get away from it all and pursue his creative, off-grid aspirations. Makes me want to take a good, hard look at my life and maybe, celebrate with my loved ones more, while I still can. 👀🕊️ I hope you're wearing a parachute on your back for the return trip off the mountain. 😃 Thank you for sharing this.
Good point, about celebrating with one’s loved ones more while we still can. This guy bought the house in 1965, died in 1986… 21 short years. Surely so much money and effort, so much luxury, for such a relatively short time. We often waste much time and effort and money in life questionable things.
Can't get enough of your videos on your explores, Brent . Looks like it would be quite a treacherous trek. What an extremely interesting self educated man. Just goes to show that you don't need a degree or PHD to achieve major discoveries or valuable millstones. Such a tragedy 😢 the vandals did their dirty work. Fascinating place. Thank you for taking us there.
So glad to see you again. This was an interesting find. The setting for this house is just absolutely beautiful. I’m glad you didn’t go to this remote spot by yourself. Safety in numbers. Thanks for taking us along.
So sad that people would utterly destroy everything that a hard working veteran like that built, evidently those who destroyed it has never had to work for a living!
The problem is Devil runs the world. He is liar and murderer. This is the reason why deception and violence are everywhere. This is the reason why resources are misused. This is the reason why liars and murderers feel good while righteous persons are persecuted. This is the reason why Hitler got the power, but Christ was executed as "blasphemer" and "rioter" by denunciation of clergy. That's why we've got the Gospel about the God's kingdom. Jehovah would put everything in order. The dead will be resurected and we'll meet our loved ones again! :-)
Imagine getting all that building material up there to construct it and furniture in the mansion. Sad to see it in such brutal condition. To hear that mountain breeze everyday and the river below would be something else! ♥☮ (The wooden folding unit on the office wall is for viewing rolled up maps, maybe large blueprints as well.)
The American dream & man did he make a great place. What a shame on how it was treated but I'm glad to hear that someone will bring it back to life & finally someone uses hydro power as they should. Amazes me how many live remotely & next to flowing water yet don't take advantage of a prop power based system.
What a beautiful and unique home. I would have loved to see it before the destruction. I cannot for the life of me understand why people would intentionally destroy such a magnificent place. It literally makes me sick. Thank you so much for sharing. If only....
It's a crying shame that people destroy what a human being worked so hard to make and one night people can come in and destroy and cost thousands of dollars of damage to a house I know this i own rental houses
Its always cool when there’s just enough stuff left behind to give us a snapshot of the owner. Love the magazines dated 1986… all his magazines in the office, showing us his interests. The books were mostly taken I sense, but magazines are so expendable to us when we move. I can relate to that. His office is GREAT, all those bookshelves 😍 and the nice view/great natural light. Neat to see the old 1965 oven, microwave etc. Pretty cool kitchen in its time. All very cool.
That roller rack is for storing blueprints or other large scale prints. Newspaper, schematics, that sort of thing. Beautiful home. Thanks for the great video
Just found you, first time watching…. Fellow canadian (BC) and wow do I ever love this! I’m such a passionate prepper (but without real money haha no millionaire mansions here) so now I’m living vicariously through your explore videos. Very very cool! Thanks for showing us respectfully (and super lame that other folks trashed it, although to be fair, a good lot of it could be the packrats! I don’t think the mass glass smashing… but the amount of damage they can do to an unattended home is INCREDIBLE. I’ve left my home evacuating from wildfire before and when I returned, it looked like homeless people had inhabited the space, it was clearly rats but wow was it bad. In just a couple weeks! Thanks again. So thrilled I found you (on accident!)
11:50 Wow, Consumers Distributing. Now that's a name I've not heard in a loooooong time. My parents used to go there all the time. The justification for how their stores operated (they were basically mail order pick up points) was that because they didn't have salespeople and fancy displays and such, they could offer lower prices. I don't remember anything being significantly cheaper there, but I was also pretty young at the time.
21:39 Ironrite was a commercial grade ironing machine that was intended for larger scale laundry needs. You basically fed the laundry under the horizontal roller and it would press the items pretty quickly. You could prefold sheets along their long axis and run them through once, then just fold them up into a smaller size for shelving. A couple pairs of pants could be sent through the roller and pressed faster than you could even start one pair with a hand iron. Once you got the hang of using it, you could iron a bunch of laundry pretty quick. They are from late 60s-70s. We had one for a while but it took up a lot of space in the laundry room. My parents sold it to a local hotel in our hometown if I recall correctly.
What a shame no one is there to live in and enjoy it 😢 You did such a beautiful job on the place and its surrounding forest. So many still shots could be award winning for their beauty. You definitely have an eye for photography and filmography. Bravo ! Another beautiful, respectful job ! ❤ 🙏🏻
That place was great! I even wondered if there might have been a hidden bunker somewhere attached underground, yet hidden! At 16 minutes in there was a lady walking, darting down the hall. Played it twice to make sure we weren't imagining it! 😮
At 22:57, It really sounds like someone else's footsteps. I know there probably isn't another sould around for miles, but I hope you're packin'. Awesome video!
I've been fascinated by Pick since I heard him name dropped in a song while playing Fallout. Very cool to get to see Walden North. His first estate, Walden West, was in Saratoga, California. It's now part of Sanborn Park. The historic house there that was a hostel until 2010 was his for a time, until he decided that he'd set up shop too close to target sites in the Cold War and moved to Canada.
I used to get stuff from Consumers Distributing as a kid with my parents. But usually you placed an order and then had to wait 6-8 weeks for it to come in. They rarely carried much actual stock in the back aside from people's orders.
I'm still baffled by how this house was built. How did they get all the materials and equipment up there? Everything went up the tram? How did they get everything from the road to the bottom of the tram? Ultimate dream home when renovated!

Neat home.
That was my first impression too.
I agree, someone must have been living there after he passed. Maybe family. I have a microphone on my shirt now 👌🏻
@AbandonedUrbexCanada this is pemberton folklore. This guy had some secret information on why he built this here. Because of nuclear dust.
Where would it have even been up for sale? Was there a listing somewhere?
@@AbandonedUrbexCanadayou didn't answer who was with you!! I saw them dart through the shot as well... Assumed a family member ? Otherwise, we captured a real ghostie 👻
Disgusting to see the vandalism... Such a shame the old house is rotting away.
Ahhh, I wanted to see the dam. Cool place!
Wow this place freakin blows my mind. This has to be one of my top 10 abandoned homes no doubt. Thanks so much for covering such an amazing find!
It's a map holder. When you were in school in the 70s, just about every classroom had one of those.
Thank you
I will never understand what enjoyment someone gets by destroying others things.
Excellent find! Absolutely amazing!
Great find, great video you put out for us. Beautiful, yet scary, climb!! Thank you so much. ❤
Thank you very much!
I hope you're wearing a parachute on your back for the return trip off the mountain. 😃
Thank you for sharing this.
Thank you so much Laura!
This place was beautiful in the day! Hope they get started soon on restoring the mansion! Awesome video & explore! 👍👍❤️🤘🤘
Hey thank you 👍🏻
So glad to see you again. This was an interesting find. The setting for this house is just absolutely beautiful.
I’m glad you didn’t go to this remote spot by yourself. Safety in numbers. Thanks for taking us along.
I sometimes have people with me
The choice of music in the intro makes me feel like I'm there. Good choice
Thanks!
So awesome. Just subscribed. This is great stuff, cheers!
So sad that people would utterly destroy everything that a hard working veteran like that built, evidently those who destroyed it has never had to work for a living!
Imagine providing all that uranium to the world, and then building an apocalyptic hideout.
Good point!
Diabolical 🫤🫤
The irony of it all
Being on top a of a small mountain doesn't strike me as the best place to hide from radioactive fallout.
A rare house never seen that before, gosh the mountains are beautiful
Imagine getting all that building material up there to construct it and furniture in the mansion. Sad to see it in such brutal condition. To hear that mountain breeze everyday and the river below would be something else! ♥☮
(The wooden folding unit on the office wall is for viewing rolled up maps, maybe large blueprints as well.)
I would love to hear how they did it
Helicopter?
Upsetting that people destroy these perfect time capsules. Thanks for going through all the hard trekking to share that with everyone!
It sad that his legacy has been destroyed by idiots. With him being part of history it should had been preserved
awesome! Thanks for the video. It would be pretty cool to do this and take photos of this abandoned places! pure gold
Awesome place! Thanks for taking us with you!!
Why would someone go out of the way like that to wreck somebody else’s property! That was such a cool place!!
You were only 3 hours away from me. Such a cool place to explore thanks so much for sharing.
Great Video. Love the Hill-a-vator. Winters there must have been....fun eh?
Nice video 😊. Greetings from the Netherlands ❤😊
Super amazing explore and location. Wow!!❤🎉
The American dream & man did he make a great place. What a shame on how it was treated but I'm glad to hear that someone will bring it back to life & finally someone uses hydro power as they should. Amazes me how many live remotely & next to flowing water yet don't take advantage of a prop power based system.
Excellent reporting. Enjoyed it. Thanks!
If its to be preserved whoever owns it needs to get on with it before there's nothing left🐀🐀🐀🐀🐀🐀
Remember back when we were in school we had pull down maps? I'm guessing that's what that thing was and there are many rollers for different ones.
Must have been a hell of a job getting everything there without roads.
theres a road
Helicopter use 😊
I’m guessing a lot of building materials would’ve been Helicoptered in $$$
Thinking they built the tram first to haul up the materials
Great video, Brent! Absolutely amazing!❤
Glad you enjoyed it! 👌🏻😁
Nice Work & Video 👍
Glad you enjoyed this one 👌🏻
Those rats can do a lot of damage. Hey thanks for finding me! Hope you enjoy videos
Why do some people just destroy someone else's property why
It almost seems like a weird form of jealousy to me or something. Teenage angst/destructiveness.
What a unique explore, Brent. I am so glad you made it up there to show us. THANK YOU for your amazing efforts and excellent video! So well done. 👍
You're welcome! Glad you enjoyed it
People who go out of their way to destroy properties ( and they really, really did ) boil my piss! Thx so much for an amazing find! :)
Awesome home and location👍. Thank you for sharing. Just beautiful😀
Glad you enjoyed it
Seen this one before!! What a beautiful Architect this was. So sad people have no respect for other peoples property even if it’s been abandoned!!!
It's heartbreaking to see senseless vandalism. No reason for smashing and destroying everything.
😢
I used to get stuff from Consumers Distributing as a kid with my parents. But usually you placed an order and then had to wait 6-8 weeks for it to come in. They rarely carried much actual stock in the back aside from people's orders.
Wow amazing place and views it's too bad someone hasn't taken care of such a beautiful place ❤ Thanks for Sharing
I'm still baffled by how this house was built. How did they get all the materials and equipment up there? Everything went up the tram? How did they get everything from the road to the bottom of the tram? Ultimate dream home when renovated!
I've seen a previous video of this man's history and house,i believe it was near Hope,British Columbia . Thank's for sharing from Vancouver Island.
amazing video again! love me some dates!🤩but man did she scare me in the back! I knew I heard noises just before but since you didn't react to it I got scared!😅
Never heard of this oryou before - just showed up on the right hand suggestions! Thanks for posting this, great ideas for a retreat with the #1 being, make sure you have someone who can take over or you're at the mercy of others
