  • We've all seen (and probably laughed at) our dogs run sporadically around the house and yard. These energy bursts are called Frenetic Random Activity Periods (FRAPS) and are set off by multiple different triggers.

    My dog once hurt herself doing this. She started crying really loud and holding her paw up, not moving it, we thought it was broken at first but then she stopped crying and started zoomiing again wtf.

      Truth Inspector it’s usually just to de-stress after a bath, like us stretching our legs on a roadtrip or listening to guilty pleasure music in traffic. Instead of keeping all that pent up energy in, it’s good to get it out in a positive way! My dog always runs out of the bathroom after a bath and wants to wag her tail and run all around the house wiping her wet body all over my furniture. I’m sure all the dogs in these videos were just excited 😊

      I agree. The stress hypothesis may be correct sometimes but no reason to assume that that stress explains all zooming. I hate it when the "experts" talk as if what they say is proven and not just a theory.

    • @RedFloyd469
      @RedFloyd469 3 роки тому +13

      @@treasuretrovel3816 I don't think any expert in this video said that all "zooming" is a consequence of stress. The only thing they mentioned, is that it MIGHT be because of some stress and it's release. Therefore you should not try and hold it back, and you should actively think about improving your home so that such stress-relief is enabled rather than discouraged.
      These experts do in fact know what they are talking about, and they DO base their theories on proven hypotheses.
      If anything, I will at the very least trust their learned opinion more than some random pseudo-intellectual anti-expertise guy on the internet that thinks experts are just people with an opinion and nothing more. That's how conservatives tend to think.

    • @djbenje4019
      @djbenje4019 2 роки тому +4

      Duh. While they're doing the zoomies, of course they don't LOOK stressed. It's the 8-hours a day they spend alone at home, maybe cooped-up in a small confinement that builds-up stress. And just like us, their stress is often on the INSIDE, un-expressed, and difficult to recognize. And just like humans, after a long week (or weeks) of being in a suppressive environment (like a stuffy corporate office), sometimes we just want to completely let it all go, and party hard. But then again, sometimes it IS just pure joy and excitement.

      I think kids get the zoomies but we then condition them out of it. So we probably are supposed to naturally get the zoomies, but we've conditioned ourselves out if it... they DO say exercise helps with depression and stress... I often wonder what we have conditioned out of us that other animals have not... nature's remedy to stress and depression might well have been the zoomies.
      Watch kittens or puppies, they constantly explore, run around, playfight, climb, etc... but our kids? Settle down, sit still and listen to teacher, don't touch this or that, pay attention, etc.... long hours in school when they squirm and such in their seats because, unlike other creatures, they cannot follow the natural inclination to explore and play.... And nowadays play is sitting down as well, either watching other's fantasy (TV/ Movies) or playing in other's fantasy) video games with limited script)... we all, adult and child, sit and watch/ explore fantasy realms on a screen.... which means even less exercise... As much as even I am caught up in this stuff, I have to wonder how much more we could do if we allowed ourselves and our children to be more active as animals are, rather than limiting ourselves so much. The more you sit the harder it is to be active and flexible, and so as we limit ourselves in play and things like running around randomly we might well be making ourselves worse, as we cut ourselves off from the natural movements and activities that our bodies need.... from childhood onward.
      So maybe we shouldn't make so much fun and light of zoomies and should instead take part.... and that may be just the beginning to better health. We did not evolve to just sit still, and if we allow our children much more freedom in their natural activities rather than sitting still, we might end up with much more active adults in the future. But that would mean allowing for such, changing curriculum and such... even for business and work. I have a feeling many do not realize what we have lost, but we can see some of it in our pets and very young children who tend to do some things our pets do... they are closer to those instincts and have not learned the do's and dont's... such as sleeping in a laundry hamper (kids and pets will do), for instance.
      Another example would be a person walking their dog.... their feet are killing them, but there is no bench or chair in sight... they lament to another human that there is nowhere to sit... as their dog sits right beside them.... SITS on the ground. We have washing machines that are very good at cleaning things, and one could carry a sitting mat for the outside.... we have taught ourselves NOT to sit on the ground, and yet in doing so we suffer as our pets are much more comfortable... we can use our knowledge to figure out ways to avoid germs and such AND sit on the ground.... Such as a mat.... it's just our social conditioning that is the problem. There are MANY places to sit, but we were taught not to sit on the ground.... so as one's feet hurt greatly their dog is not in such pain.
      Just some things to consider. I think zoomies are a great start!

    My dogs often will start randomly bolting from one room to another just back and forth non stop and it’s quite funny. I understand why it’s called the zoomies but ever since I was little, with any dog I had that did it, we would always call it a “spaz attack”

      I've always kinda wondered why assholes that keep them chained up in back yards year round even get a dog. That poor thing could have been in someone's home getting love and attention as a family pet rather than an animal kept on their property that these "people" are obligated to provide food and water to.

    I adore their Zoomies!!! And yes! I agree they need exercise. My dogs always do this when I get home. It’s the most wild and fun greeting ever! Each one has their own little run, jump, scoot, and rub n rolls. Some even vocalize! I greet them and let them out to run. It’s hilarious 😆 and I wouldn’t ever change their routine! Then playtime commences... it’s precious! I have 4 dogs. 3 of which were rescues. They were severely abused. For the first year they were so observant and very shy. Didn’t know what to do with a ball, a bone or a single toy. They are my shadows. I adore each of them. I find that over time one by one they opened up. Showing their personalities. Each different.
    We had lost our lab and it was a year later. We always had more that 2 dogs... and our 2 pups grieved our lab very hard. As we did also. After a year my husband says. I think it’s time we find another dog. I said, “don’t worry they will find us.” My husband chimes back, “they”...??? Yes they them the dog will find us.
    3 months pass and every neighbor is outside trying to save 3 dogs. We had a cemetery that people would drop the dogs off. Sad place. The local dog catchers wouldn’t even help, they said, if it’s not a Pitt, they don’t intervene. Not even my neighbor the dog trainer could get them.
    She told me it was impossible. I laughed. I said, “well I’ll set a timer, because, I’m a dog whisper... let’s see how long it takes me to get the white Eskimo on my porch. She said no way. I said, watch! So I iMessaged her.
    Walked to my porch and set the timer. Locked on to her sight and willed her in. Took me 11 minutes and 7 seconds. My neighbors were all shocked!
    Hahahahaha the next day we saved her brothers using the white Eskimo. The neighbors had been trying to save them for over a month. I finally learned of this and it took me less that 17 hours to have them in our home. As a gift everyone got together and bought food toys and one ever purchased specialty grooming for them. It was one of the most magical moments in our lives. Showed how caring souls are for those they don’t even know. Very endearing!!!
    Took this pack about a year to show their fun open real selves. I’m humbled to the experience and grateful for my gifts. They have brought this family allot of love.

    Hopefully I can apply this to the two Dobermans my parents adopted while I’ve been away at college. They have been with them for about two weeks and are still acclimatizing to their new home. In other words they are very energetic, don’t always listen, and as such annoy my parents. Of course, this is all hear-say from them who are in their early sixties and the Dobermans are 3 and 4. I think a lot of it is that my parents are older and got too used to the overly chill disposition of our previous Dobermans which were older and more attuned to our lifestyle. On top of that, it’s just been the two of them to care for the dogs so far. Hopefully I will be able to work with the new dobes a little bit when I come home and either help them calm down some or take over the role of exercising them which I could greatly benefit from!

    My grandparents dog, whose a Husky mix and Huskies are notorious for having the zoomies, would(and still kind of does but she’s old now) get them anytime you played with her. You’d be doing fetch/tug-of-war on the porch only for her to dead stop and just sprint around the porch at Mach 7 for 3 or 4 laps and then she’d be back to playing. Funniest thing to watch every time, just had to make sure there wasn’t any kiddos playing in zoom-zone or she’d plow right through them and knock ‘em over by accident.
