What many people doesn't know, is that the evil king was defeated and his country conquered by a powerful general. This powerful general had a large army with elephants, and he is Abraha, the arrogant general who thought that he could conquer Mecca and demolish the Kaaba. So, the holistic view of the story is about the events before the birth of our Prophet Muhammad SAW, and the miraculous thing is, he is telling the story, as if he was there when it all happened. Subhanallah!
