Never watched "House" but this man came to the UK in the 60's and knocked me out . For me he has lived up to his self proclamation of the King of Rock n Soul . He was doing it for half a century and what he left us will be appreciated long after he (and us) is gone
Many people think that this song was only about Africans not being free that time. But the longer i live, the more i realise that nobody is free nowadays. And it doesn't look like it will get any better.
so much truth in one song, no one can dislike this, this is for all people, kids teenagers, adults and old people, all of them, i'm sure all and everyone of them, can enjoy this
Brothers and Sisters in these troubled times, music and song are uplifting to the human soul It is African American culture and universal .Compassion respect and empathy travels well in good music and songs .RIP Trayvon Martin

This song is clearly about the christian mission. That while even 1 of us is still in darkness and hurting and unaccepting of the great sacrifice Christ made for us then our mission is uncomplete and NONE of us are free
from the lyrics"Now I swear your salvation isn't too hard too find, None of us can find it on our own. We've got to join together in sprirt, heart and mind. So that every soul who's suffering will know they're not alone"
Heeeerlijk ,die hammondsoulsound!!! I love it!! It takes me too the ground off my endless emotional heartbeat. MMMMMMMmmmmmmmmmmmmm beautiful. Alloud too scream!!
Every master is also a slave. We are all one species, whether we choose to see that scientific fact or not. Those who oppress members of humanity, are blindly and inevitably, enslaving themselves.
so true! I downloaded this song a couple of months ago after I heard it on House and its become one of my most favorite songs. I've been downloading all the soundtracks from house btw. This is such an awesome and meaningful song.
@Kurvomet that's very simplistic, the beauty of this song is far more than some petty cry of oppression from people free to speak out as we see fit. What he sings is "none of us are free, if one of us is chained, none of us are free" it's a song of solidarity with those who are truly oppressed. I read; Iran, North Korea and China.
Una de las mejores interpretaciones que he escuchado. El tipo es un músico de los mejores, la música es de las mejores, la letra es de las mejores. Aqui hay arte, señores, aqui hay algo más que una canción.
No, it's not about a specific person, but it's also not about imaginary beings. It's about real people (and other real beings). It’s about all of us, and how the path to freedom requires that freedom be universal, because if it can be taken from any of us, it is not secure for anyone.
It says it right in the chorus "None of us are free if one of us is chained." Race, gender, nationality, religion...do not matter in this context. Of course it is possible to apply any of these filters and see only how it pertains to one classification or another, but it can also be viewed through an even broader lens, recognizing that as long as our four-legged and winged brothers and sisters are caged and exploited for food, clothing, labor, etc. that we are also caged by the effects of that.
@hillbillya1 maybe but the message i received is more about the other Christian mission: to love all of mankind, regardless of personal/spiritual/religious belief, but simply because we are all human, flawed, & in need of help and kindness.
@wilmajo no--- you fell in love with House, the man/character/building Hahahahahaha!!!!!! :) yes, I am insane and, yes, it is a GREAT song---makes me wanna build a railroad or plant a field, except I am a lazy git and a good for nothing, but other than that, I WOULD!!! :) it also kinda makes me wanna be tied up, but I think that may mean summat else, entirely........

None are more hopelessly enslaved than those who falsely believe they are free.

This Hammond sound is a eargasm.
The moment we were born, we are issued a social security number, thus we will never be free! ;(
It's best when the religion adheres to us...
Keep your head up. Keep working for freedom. We will get there.
You will be remembered and this song will be an anthem. RIP
0 dislikes. Makes perfect sense.

@theblackpoet Oh, yes. We will get there. Be certain of that.
The lyrics are factual. The words speak for themselves. Have fun being in denial.
אין על מה להצטער עלינו רק להצטער על השעות שהוא ער ומנותק
Dude, if thats ray charles blind...Imagine what he would be like if he could see the keys.
The chorus reminds me quite a lot "Susie Q"... great song, though :)
