People who are offended by and opposed to oppression and exploitation are offended by and opposed to these things wherever they occur. It is hypocritical, however for supposedly "developed nations" to pressurise other countries over human rights abuses when their own state funded paramilitaries murder their own citizens in broad daylight in front of witnesses without fear of recrimination. Serious question, asked in a spirit of attempted understanding: Why is it that any attempt at achieving equality by a marginalised group you interpret as an attack on your own group? Why is it that when you hear "Black Lives Matter" it sounds to you as though there's an unspoken suffix of "White Lives Don't"? Just as a thought experiment, can we try flipping this and you consider for a moment that when you respond with "All Lives Matter" to us, that carries an unspoken suffix of "but not equally"? I'm not attacking you. I'm trying to present an alternative perspective, one which you might not have considered. In my mind, we will only solve the problems in our societies with empathy and understanding and if we don't talk to each other across the tribal divides we're doomed to keep repeating the same patterns

What is free? No one is free we are all chained to something. We decide what we chain ourselves to. Something is always effecting our decisions our behaviors.
We have to care about the prospects of other people. There is no convenient refuge from the suffering of others. We saved bald eagles, not because we need bald eagles (we don't) , but because WE NEEDED to save them. We need to save our souls from being drowned in cynicism and fatalism. We can help one another, and we when we do we will save ourselves in the process.
Beautiful Solomon singing the ultimate philosophy. It might seem phony, it might seem too hippy, but it's not. It's the truth, and I always come back to this song.
Some day we will all be free. I it will be soon. May our heavenly Father bless us all.
I'm a big-time metalhead, and usually only listen to death metal, black metal, etc. Came across this by chance, just kinda scrolling through stuff. I actually dig it, love the soul in this and the message. Why can't the music that gets thrown into the airwaves constantly be full of as much soul as this? There's a whole lot of genuine emotion behind it and it comes through in the music, and it's always better than the overproduced, canned and processed garbage we call music today.
Thanks, metal-head, for taking an interest in this song. As for me, I can have Krokus/Rush/Malmsteen....right next to Chaka Khan/Marvin Gaye/James Brown. D.....Lynryd Skynrd did this song also.....so did Ray Charles w/Eric Clapton. See? The worlds are never far apart, we just segregate ourselves. I come from a pure, uncut, 100% funk background, but the funk is everywhere.....even in metal...the licks, the scales, the shredding. It's out there, but not marketed, so you have to do what you did....find it by accident. NJOY@!!!
Agreed. I'm also a metalhead, almost exclusively (classic thrash all the way!), but love this song and some blues/funk/ska/reggae too
