a tune doesn't generally make a car illegal in Germany, there are completely legal tunes out there which get noted in the cars paperwork (different power, top speed) and then you're good to go. Don't know whether MHD offers this, but there's no general problem with tuning your car in Germany. Same with the downpipe etc., although there even are downpipes out there which don't even require any paperwork, as they have been tested to perform within the margins of the stock downpipe emissions-wise. I'm not saying tuning is easy here, but it's also not like everything was illegal here.
@@justus9694 You're of course completely right, but in the specific instance of this video, the car is definitely illegal (in Germany at least). MHD themselves offer no Teilegutachten (paperwork to get it legal for non-Germans), and even if they did it would not apply to the car, as the car is not stock (Downpipe). The downpipe itself is legal (ECE), but also not in this instance, as the engine software was changed. Both mods cancel each other out legally, so you would need to get a Einzelabnahme (very expensive and complicated check if the car is legal with all the mods for non-Germans).
Perhaps someone can explain since I cannot really understand why you would tune a car this expensive instead of just buying a faster car. Almost all of this spend is sunk cost since I don’t imagine buyers are queuing up to buy a “tuned” M340i. In fact, I imagine values of tuned everyday cars are pretty poor. It invalidates your warranty. It makes insurance a nightmare (unless you lie to your insurer and then good luck making a claim). And by selectively tuning certain components (those that give you speed) over others (like brakes, engine components etc), you are more likely to have a car that is imbalanced for its overall performance. Just buy an M3 surely?
Its allot cheaper than an m3 but yeah i agree on the tuning part. But the m340i is already stock fast and good enough to have fun in and have enough power.
